Searchable Website Vs Slick Website...when To Draw The Line
Just curious what everyone thinks here:

So, we all know how search engines have a hard time reading flash sites. Well, I have come to a road block in my designing...I have clients that want their sites in the search engines but also want a certain amount of 'tech' to them! I can design pages with 'some' flash, enough to make it interesting, BUT if they want a 'fully searchable' page, what do we do?
I can type html all day long but it will never compare to the slickness of flash. I just finished my first 'full html' site in over a year(stuck on flash) and I am blown away by the clarity! It makes flash sharpness look dull! (sorry)

**My Question:
If you had a client that wanted a high tech site and also wanted to be 'searchable', what would you do??

***I'd like to hear all opinions, reasons and answers***

Ive designed a website entirely in flash, I've put a link on the splash page to macromedia website to download the flash player for those who do not have it installed. But the splash page is also done in flash, and I've had problems sending it to friends to view who don't have a flash player and all they see is a black screen.
I' am presenting the site on Monday and I want to know if there is some code I can put in that will automatically download the player for the viewer before taking them into the splash?

I created a flash file and published it, uploaded the swf and html files to the Internet. I also uploaded a pdf document that is a link to a button in the flash. But, now when I go to the site instead of going directly to the HTML file it pulls up a directory that list the parent site, html, swf and the pdf. How do I upload the pdf file and still have the website go directly to the html?

How large should I make the movie? The standard one is 550x400 or something, but do I have to make it different for a site? Also, do you have to make this different for people with 800x600 res and 1024x768? Thx in advance.

Hi All

My previous posts mentioned that the service i was using didnt support PHP, MYsql and ASP, I have found a free hoster that does this, what I want to do is find the best way to integrate my Web Domain main site and have my guestbook and Contact / registration and news poster running off the other site, is it possible for me to integrate this by creating my contact forms ect as seperate Flash files and have them loading directly into my main swish movie on my main domain from the other domain, if possible a seperate loader just for the delay would be good.

I am having quite a bit of trouble with my website. What I want to do is that I want quite a few things to load, such as certain boxes and such. Now, this is what I want to do:

This is just rough sketch, but what I want to do is that when the website loads up, the bottom portion of the website says "loading" and when it is done loading, I want the boxes to begin appearing. I don't really know how to do this. Would I just play everything on the "main" stage

Also, what I also want to know how to do is that when you click on one option, the menu fades out and fades into another screen.

im making a flash website and i have buttons and then a content window where all the different buttons content opens up in but i wanted to initially have the content window not there so you can see the stuff behind it and then whenever the user clicks a button the content window will appear with the stuff in it, i just need help on how to make the movie clip content window initially not be there until a button is pressed? it would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me out. thanks.

This is a long message but please read!!!

I'm about a month old to flash mx, and it has come pretty easy to me. I've been given the opportunity to make a website for a company that wanted something that looked good. So I decided to make an entire flash website. I'm not sure yet if it was a good choice or a bad choice.

Every new page of the website was a new swf file. On each file I pasted in place the banner, which took up about an inch of the page. On the home page, the banner faded in. On the rest of the pages the banner just appeared. already at 100%.

When I previewed the movies offline in my web browser, it worked fine. When I followed a link to a seperate movie(page), the banner stayed in the top inch of the box, and the rest of the movie loaded in the bottom of the box.

It's when I loaded a few of the pages online to a free web server, I realized my problem. The intro and home page loaded perfectly, but when I clicked on a link for the first time to load another movie, the top banner disappeared and reappeared. After that first link however, the movie was then loaded in my browsers history I believe, and it never flashed on and off again.

Is there any way to make it so the top banner doesnt disappear and reappear, or should I have made the banner in normal HTML web page making and imported the video at the bottom half.

I'm totally stuck trying to figure this out. I can't understand preloaders by any tutorial i've found and i don't know if i've wasted 3 weeks making a website that wont work the way i had envisioned it.

Please help... I'm going to upload the files back to the free page and put a link so people understand what i mean.

I am trying to build a website to promote my animation and illustration work but Im having real difficulties in understanding how this can be done...
Ive made a plan so I can see exactly what I want to happen but I cant get my head around how I can achieve it.
Basically I want a home page which displays animation and illustration buttons and when you click on either one, I want it to move to the bottom of the screen and 'reveal' underneath a list of films/ illustration works (depending on which relevant button you have pressed).(This is just for starters!)
I tried to build the site by copying the background etc I have in place on the homepage and making a new .swf which is then loaded in place of the home page when the buttons are pressed (i hope this is making sence).
But then I thought...all of these imported items I have on the home page (background, buttons etc which I made in photoshop) are basically 'shared' as the page doesnt really change, just the items within it move up and down and you can load movies to watch etc.
How can I achieve this without having to make an exact copy of the page and have it load in place of the page that you have just viewed? There must be a way of just loading elements into the homepage itself?

I have got what i would call the backbone of my website constructed and just need to add the content to the various sections.

What i am looking for is someone with a greater knoweldge of flash than myself, which wouldn't be too hard i dare say, to look over my site and find fault, advise and instruct where i have gone wrong what works and what is quite frankly as much use as a blow up dart board.

so far all my flash work has been created for display purposes only, i.e. showcases, music videos etc. You can tell by looking at my website that i need to learn a few things (www.tabrez.cc)

I'm now creating a website for a client and there's a few things i need to take into consideration, for example, file sizes, and how to make a preloader etc. I have 1 week to do this and i think i can manage with just a wee bit of advice on a few things:

1. First things first, is 800x600 an okay stage size?

2. I'm assuming it's more efficient to create each section of the website as a seperate swf to load instead of a scene?

3. how to get the back button on IE6 to integrate with the flash movie.
