What Is The AS To Determine Size Of New Windows?
Does anyone know how to change the size of a window when using a link to an external file in flash mx?

And another problem in my new flash site (not up yet) I'm using nav buttons to load external swf's into containers. In that external swf is also anothe set of buttons which also load external swf's into it. When I just preview the portfolio file I can click on the button and the other external file will load however when I preview my whole site that link does nothing. Anyone?

Does SWF exported size determine how fast a movie will load? I have a swf that is 298KB that takes about 1 minute to load on a 49K modem, but a 213KB swf loads in about 15 seconds. I am trying to understand how to optimize the best I can.

Loadmovieclip To Determine Clip To Load Based On Window Size
alright.. so I'm not an actionscript guy.. i know flash decent but not good enough to do what i want. So I'm creating a scalable site.. with a loadmovieclip.. using onresize.. and listeners. that part i have... but.. what i am trying to figure out how to do is have flash choose which movie clip to load into the loader based on window size. for example.. I have the same photo in three different sizes in three different movies.. one very large for large resolution displays.. and so on.. I don't want the photo to resize since that would ruin the quality.. but would the actionscripting be for the loader or the buttons or the onresize event.. i'm not quite sure.. man any help would be greatly appreciated.. it would be really nice to be able to use whatever resolution the user has available.. for my photography.. thanks guys.

Pop Up Windows Of Certain Size

I have a website about my band, and I have a ton of pictures on the site. I need some help in making the pictures pop up in a separate window, but the exact size window as the original jpg image. Im doing a new one for them and want to be able to control the size of windows that pop up when you click the buttons. In the version of Flash im using , to achieve pop ups i use the Action command 'getURL' which works fine but the windows pop up at random sizes.

How do i set the size at which these new windows should open up at?? Ive seen it done on lots of other sites and it looks great!

Can you please explain to me how if i link to a flash site from another page, how can i control the size of the flash document and get rid of the bars and everything at the top. Size Of Browser Windows
does anyone know a site that gives you all the measurements you need in terms of different browsers sizes for using with the resizeTo () javascript. You have to set the browser window to slightly bigger than the swf so as to get rid of all the scroll bars, and these added lengths and widths depend on the browser. i was wondering if someone knows were these might be listed?

I´m creating a exe projector for a project and I´m wondering if the movie would be too slow since there a lot of pictures on it. On a projector the movies are loaded just like on the web or all of them are loaded at the same time?

Getting Set-size Windows From Fireworks Using Javascript?
Ok, not specifically a flash question, but I get more help here than anywhere else in the entire world so I thought I'd chance it!

Basically, I want to open HTML windows from within the pop-up menus created within Fireworks (MX). Which is simple enough, obviously, but I need the new windows to be the sort that don't have scroll bars, menus and are a set size. As far as I can see, there is no way to set these parameters from within Fireworks itself nor Dreamweaver (MX), so I figured I'd be able to do this using javascript.

But I don't know how.

Anyone got any ideas?!

Load Movie - Actual Size In New Windows
Hi all.

Simple problem - I think.

I have a link to a small .swf file I created called Bag 1.swf - the link on the page is a picture.

What I want is for the swf file to load in a new windows inside IE, but a windows that is the size of the swf file - as it is only a little picture.

So basically it should 'pop up' when linked to.

I have succeeded in linking the file but it only loads full screen and within the same window - completely removing the original page...

I hope this is clear, any help would be much appreciated.

Was wondering if u guys could answer this (basic?) question.

Noticed that Flash Documents seem to be a fixed pixel dimension.

In HTML u can set tables to be 100% in size thus filling up the browser window (e.g the old fix a few columns, scale the rest trick)

Is it possible to do this with flash, e.g flash movies that utilise the full width of the browser window regardless of resolution?

Detecting Screen Size / Launching According Popup Windows
this should be an easy one...not for me though

- the main page has an entry button, and when the mouse rolls over it you get two options: 1000x500 or 600x400. you then choose which size best suits your screen resolution.

- i would like to have at the bottom "your screen resolution is x by x"

- then when the window pops up, obviously centered, i want it to have a name and no scrollbars or resizing or absolutely anything.

Problem In Running A Flash MX-2004 Application On Windows 98 Adn Windows NT.
Hi all
I have this problem ......here it goes.....
Actually I developed a Flash MX-2004 application which has to run on both mac and windows platforms.
This application does the funciton of a dictionary and has 46 xml files and close to 13000 sound files.
This application runs fine on most Windows platform, however it doesnt work on Windows 98 and Windows NT where though the intro animation comes & the home screen loads....the application part of the program doesnt load.

Why is this so??? I am totally clueless...please help....
Do I have to make the intro and exit animations as separate swf files adn call them????

Variables To Determine The URL... How?
I am creating a Bible Research site that will allow people to compare different versions of the Bible side by side with other versions of the Bible.

Here is my problem...

In the flash I have 3 things that the user inputs...
Version (version of Bible, NIV, KJV)
Book (Genesis, Exodus)
Chapter (1,2)

Now there is also a button that activates the search and gets the page. It is titled "research"

Now when you click research it needs to get a URL. The URL is supposed to be this...

/(Version)/(book)/(Chapter).html

or here is an example

/NIV/Genesis/1.html

Now how do I make the Get URL command to read all 3 variables to determine the URL?

Determine SWF Played Once
I am looking for a script that can be used to determine if an SWF file has been played or not.

We want it to be played once on the first visit to the site and when a user returns on the same day it would either load another file or have a 'Play Again' button in the swf file...

Determine Source FLA Of SWF?
More legacy code woes...

I have a number of SWFs, and multiple FLAs (from various SourceSafe versioning branches) which may have created them. I need to know which particular FLA "version" built which particular currently-used SWF. The previous team was out of control so it's not unusual to have 5 or 6 FLAs that all claim they built a certain SWF. (I particularly like "player_john.fla" and "player_bob.fla", both in the same folder, both pointing to the same SWF file, both with similar save dates, and both with same functions, but radically different code. Welcome to my wonderful world! )

Short of publishing every single FLA and doing a byte compare on the results (and even that's not accurate) does anybody know of an easy way to determine which particular FLA actually built the SWF I'm currently using?

The best idea I've come up with so far is loading the swf into an empty movie, and running a debug to get all the objects and functions, and then openeing up each FLA and comparing them. Tedious, and not always guaranteed.

I know the FLAs tend to store physical pathnames of where they were when they were built, so I'm hoping maybe there's some kind of identifer that also get compiled into the SWF???

How To Determine Type Of FLV
I am working on a project where I am receiving FLV files from a client to integrate into a Flash application.

The FLV files should have transparency but they do not. I am guessing that the client encoded them (exported from After Effects) with the codec set to Sorenson Spark, rather than On2 VP6 -- which is what we need. So I want to verify this and see if that is the problem.

However, I haven't seen any tool in Flash that will report the codec of the existing FLV. Can someone tell me how this can be done, either in Flash or with a 3rd-party tool?

Determine If One Clip Is Between Two Others?
Hey,

I need to find a way to determine if one movie clip is between two others, spatially speaking.

Details: I have a movieclip that the player controls with 'WASD'. I want to be able to click on another movieclip (the enemy), and perform actions, BUT only if there is not a wall between the two. How can I determine this?

I've tried using the .lineTo function, drawing from the player to the mouse that would presumably be on the enemy upon clicking, but then how do I hitTest that line to see if there is a wall between the two?

I have spent soo much time looking for a way to make this work, with no success. Any suggestions?

i am doing a searching algorithm, so let's say the path is from A to B to C and finally D (A->B->C->D)
and it is represented in an array, such that path={"A", "B", "C", "D"};

how can i link these four elements to redim as instances on the desktop, such that i have four instances, named A, B, C, D, and also the line which connected to one of the each other, named AB, BC, CD.

for instance,
how to set the color line AB, BC, CD? (the array always can be in different set of answers.)

before that someone told me dont use the double quotation, but i think that's not working with my program, further more, i need to combine two elements, which represent the line connected to two ends.

Determine Flash?
I am using a flash to keep and scroll a current list of new posted items for sale at a auction site , I have, it works great, but I cant figure out how to tell it that if users dont have flash to leave it blank, now Iam also using a perl script for the site but the section for the flash is in html. Determine The Width Of Characters
Is there a way to determine the width of a single character in a Flash5 text element? I want to split up text elements into single characters and position them one by one on the stage so that they appear as if they were one string with correct character spacing.
Unfortunatelly the _width property of normal text elements in flash is only the width of the box the text flows in, not the width of the content itself.
