I know flash5 pretty good, but hate the tutorials in MX itself. Whats a good book for learning everything new?

such as the UI and the improved library and dynamic images?

Just wondering what the experts opinion is of a great book dealing with flash that also spends a lot of detail in action scripting. I was thinking about buying the bible but don't know if I would be better of just getting an actionscripting book since I know the functionality of flash. i have taken one class on flash AS 2.0 at my school, but they didnt teach me much programming past calling a parent movie, or putting a stop(); lol. So I am trying to find a book that will teach me AS in a clear and easy to understand way. Im assuming some people out there have preferences as to which book is best. I also am not sure what the difference between AS 2.0/3.0/ flash 8/flash mx are, any help? Whats a good clean font to us in flash? What do you pro's use? I am sick of trying to use pixel fonts that are blured or anti alias when u set it at 11px or lower.

Hi all, im about to launch my new site and i need to host it somewhere, currently i'm on geocities but i keep getting JScript errors on it cos the server tries sticking some code on my pages when they are downloaded.

anyway, i could use a decent place to host my site, which is only in flash so i dont really need a database orscript support, would be useful just in case, in which case i would like SQL2000 and ASP support

I'm wondering whether there is any good action script 2.0 book in the market now? As it's quite a big change for designers who have no programming knowledge.

Good AS3 Book?
Can anyone suggest a good all around book about AS3.0?
I'm semi-advanced in AS2.0, and I want to make a transition to 3.0, but don't want to spend the whole time in front of a monitor reading the AS3.0 help file which is quite good, but I think that AS2.0's help file was more 'idiot friendly'. I don't code games, or plan to write any big Flash/AIR applications ( Im a webdesigner mostly), so OOP isn't that crucial, although some OOP examples won't hurt.

And please, no books on making a ball bounce with manual tweening, I want mainly code examples.

Whats a good movie size that will accomodate all resolution settings(or at least the most common ones)

I was gonna use 750x300 but its very small on my monitor. I'm running 1024x768, but how will this look on 800x600, etc?

if I use simple attach code to attach a movie how can I apply an if statement to determine wether it's been loaded or not?

Here is my code:

bTextBox.swapDepths(bTextBox.getNextHighestDepth() );

Here is what I want to say:
if(_root.bTextBox == "loaded Onto the stage"){
trace("text box loaded onto stage");
}else{

bTextBox.swapDepths(bTextBox.getNextHighestDepth() );
}

"loaded Onto the stage" = the movieclip being loaded onto the stage. I did it with _visible if I use an emptyMC to load it into but I kind of want to skip that step if possibel.

What I do:
I am not new at this. I am more of a developper than a designer. I am fluent with OOP (and event-driven OOP), I understand all of the features of Flash 5. I am able to get around in the MX development environment.

What I want:
Someting that details the new features of Flash MX (components, listeners...). And if possible, something that also details the OOP approach to ActionScript.

What I don't want:
Not really interested in the drawing features... and a lot less in the "environment" (window docking, etc...).

Hopefully, some of you guys have already waded through most of the available books out there, and could lead me in the right direction.

I am really getting into actionscript now and eager to learn more. Having looked at some of the fla's on FK, I am still miles from being at the stage I'd like to be.

I have lots of flash books, mainly for Flash 4, and my latest is "Flash MX Actionscripting: Advanced". It's ok but can anyone suggest a really good book for 5/MX to do some really good visual stuff?

I am an absolute newbie when it comes to flash. I am getting ready to buy flash mx and was wondering what books people recommended. I have done a little research and it looks like I may either get the Flash MX Bible, or Foundation Macromedia Flash MX. If anyone else has a recommendation please say so. I have just installed a demo copy of Flash MX. Looks like they have expanded greatly on the Actionscript. I haven't used Flash for about 6 months now but this new version has inspired me to learn more.

As a newbie, I already moved forward the stage of the simple flash dev. and I started on doing some scripting. Moreover, I did some scripting and I believe I have a clear understanding of its behavior. Now, I want to get into a more serious scripting, I went to the bookstore and I found 239847289374 manuals about scripting.
Do you know which book would be a good "must to have" as for flash scripting techniques?
Of course I can browse this great site and find plenty of examples, but I like to build things by myself, sometimes you spend more time trying to guess what others do instead of doing it by yourself, don't you think?

Is there any books that go more in depth with actionscript? I have learned a lot of cool actionscipt in the last few days, and i would like to learn more.
