Flash :: Where To Learn...

I Try To Learn
Hi
My name is Hazem, I am a beginner and I use flash 5.
I want to create a presentation using 3 movie clip, each one from 30 key frame and also each one in a separate layer.

The idea I used that when the first movie clip stop the second begin and so on till the third movie stop you have two choices to enter the site or to reload once again the presentation.

The problem is:

The 3 movie clips begin in the same time and they don’t stop.

I try to put the second movie clip in the keyframe no: 31 of the second layer but it don’t work.

Please tell me what to do???

Best Way To Learn.
I have been playing around with f5 for a couple of months now and I am having a lot of fun with it. I am now playing with mx. I have created a couple of all right play web sites but feel I may be missing out of the action script world of flash. A few questions I have for the pro's are:

1) Is it absolutely nessasary to be a good action scripter to create some of the awesome web sites I have seen?

2) What would be a good book to buy to learn action script?

3) Do you first come up with an idea of what you want and then try to apply action script to that idea or do you learn action script to know what kind of ideas you can come up with?

Hello everybody. I just got a fresh copy of the flash MX demo, and before i buy it, i'd like to learn it, see if i find it fun.

I've done all the lessons now, and am still pretty much confused on what to do. I'm primarily an artist looking to make web animations, not too much programming.

What would be the next step for me?

Hi im trying to make a dynamic combo box play a movieclip depending on whats selected.if none is selected go to and play frame 31 of movieclip.if anything else is selected play frame 2 of the movieclip but if something is already selected i dont want the animation to play again. so goto frame 30 and stop. want it to stay there

Help Me Re-learn Please
Ok, so pretty much I have been self taught since day one. But have come to realize that I have picked up some bad habits along the way.
When it comes to creating buttons, I usally make an MC with the animation that I want. Then I create an invisible button over the MC. And this AS.

So on and so on. Which is fine if you have say only 6 buttons for a main menu.
But I just rescently created an image gallery of sorts that had 56 buttons.
Well, my little bit of code turned into 12000 lines of code. It wasn't a big deal, just a lot of copying and pasting, but there has to an easier way.
Please help me re-think my logic about this concept.

Where To Learn
I am a real newb to flash, I am trying to create a blog/website. I tried following the tutorials they have, but there long and zzzz. So i was wondering if there is a website that teaches basic flash stuff. ex. how to insert a picture, small animation etc.

Best Way To Learn
This is a fairly general question about Flash, but how did you learn Flash? I know many are self-taught, but my boss is willing to pay to speed up the learning process. Can you recommend any books, online courses, or other suggestions? Right now I'm at the point where I can create a decent Flash document for others to watch, but when it comes to creating something the audience can interact with, I know very little.

Where can I go... What book can I buy... that would explain HOW TO? I want to create a Multiplayer Game, A Chat Application, etc...
I want to create a Flash Game. I want it to have several Maps for the players to move their pieces across. BUT I want to add additional maps later without re-opening the fla file. I know that Flash can import Movie Clips, so surely I could create additional Maps / Units Clips and upload them to the server and have the Flash Movie load them at run-time based on user-actions...
I want the user to be able to move their character through the game using the keyboard and/or the mouse... I believe that managing this kind of control could be done via classes...

IM studying Multimedia Production at college and need some advice on how to accomplish the following please.

I need to design a database that can be accessed over a wireless network by management staff who then can input data from their laptops in their office for example to employee's records to update them then send the data back to the main server.
I have just bought some tutorial cd's on action script,and cold fusion is this the right way to go?
Would Flash be a good program to use for the menu and pages?
Would a flash app be the way to go or a dreamweaver site?
Its a big project and IM lost as I dont know the best direction to go in.
I want to learn the easiest way of doing this task.

If You Know AS2, How Did You Learn It?
Hello community. I'm curious to know how any of you learned actionscript. ( if you indeed know it) I've been at it close to two years now and I still don't understand how to actually use code. I can do all sorts of things with flash, like make 2d vector images and animation that look like they were rendered in high end 3d software, but AS escapes me. I've spent hundreds on books, spent months of marathon sessions going over every page meticulously. Definitions and theory, no matter how much gets memorized, just doesnt yield results in actually applying the stuff.
Please don't suggest to check out FLASH MX 2004 H.O.T.-Rosanna Yeung, FLASH MX 2004 BEYOND THE BASICS-Rebenschied, UNDERSTANDING FLASH MX 2004 ACTIONSCRIPT 2-Alex Michael, FLASH MX 2004 ACTIONSCRIPT BIBLE, MACROMEDIA FLASH MX 2004 ACTIONSCRIPT 2.0 DICTIONARY. Been there, done that, learned very little. I just want an idea of what made you actually learn to use actionscript to actually do things like control movieclips, create websites, games. Is it just a matter of pasting/copying other peoples code to fit your objects and such, or is there really a way to know how to script? Oh, and I'm working in flash mx 2004.

What Do I Need To Learn?
I have flash 8. Well, access to it anyway. I want to learn how to make a sketch game where people join up in a room and people take turns drawing a word or scene given to them. Users in the room can guess and when the person guesses the correct word he gets the most points and it reduces as people guess the right word. Of course there is a drawing box where people can select swatches and different tools to draw and erase.

These people have a box to chat in and a box used to guess. Its pretty much online pictionary.

I have no experience in flash but I noticed a lot of tutorials online that I could possibly find what I need to learn.

Anyway, I am look for tips on what I need to learn as far as creating log ins, registration, interactive drawing and chat. They need to be able to make rooms and join into rooms.

So what to learn? Should I post in other forums to get more help?

Which To Learn: As2 Or As3?
I've tought myself actionscript way back using flash mx. So actionscript 1. Now I'm using Flash 8, but I didn't get around upgrading to actionscript 2. To keep myself up to date I'm thinking of learning actionscript 3. But because of the many differences with 2 and because I still will be using Flash 8 for a while I was wondering. When I learn basic actionscript 3 (through e.g. the book 'learning actionscript 3 a beginners guide') does that automatically give me some basic actionscript 2 skills? Or are those languages so different that I should teach myself actionscript 2 as well?

Hi,

I consider myself as good AS2 programmer. Now I'd like to take advantage
of AS3 speed. But every time I start from beginning to search for the

What Do I Need To Learn To Do This
I have my array of objects in actions frame + I have a movie clip in my library, and inside that movie clip I have a rectangle on 1st layer and a dynamic text field 2nd layer.

what types of code would I need to learn? To bring that movie to the stage using only actionscipt, and to represent a revolving row of buttons.

I'm not a programmer, although I've done some basic programming from time to time.

A few years ago, I used George Peirson's "How to Gurus" CDs to learn the basics of Flash MX. Then, about a year or so ago I started working through Franklin and Makar's book on Flash MX/ActionScript 2.

After getting part way through Franklin & Makar, other work (the kind that pays the bills) took me away from studying Flash until now. I haven't been using what I had learned in that book, so before starting where I left off, I would need to re-learn what I already had worked through long ago.

During my hiatus from Franklin and Makar, Flash 8 and AS3 have arrived, of course. My question is this: Should I continue working through the Franklin and Makar text, learning AS2, and then learn the ways that AS3 is different, or should I forget about AS2 and find a good introductory text for AS3?

Since I'm not a programmer, I need a text that spells out things that a programmer would find obvious. If learning AS3 is the better way to go, what would be a good text to use? I see that Makar has teamed up with someone other than Franklin to write a Flash 8 text, but reviewers are saying that a lot of the examples they use don't work as they should. Not being a programmer, I probably would find that frustrating.

Anyhow, suggestions on the best way to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

What To Learn Now?
Hey, I’m new to this site. I'm really into the animation side of flash and I need some advice on what to work on next. I'm working on getting to the point where I can actually make my own 5 min cartoons. I 'm pretty good with moving animations around and doing some basic movement of animations (i.e. walking guy crosses the screen) and simple usage of sounds and loops etc. Should I start learning a bit of action script (so i can put in Easter eggs in my cartoons) or something else? If I should start with action script, what would be a good little project to do to teach me the fundamentals?

I read the interview with F.Rodriguez and thought it was amazing. Anyone know any other links to interviews with animators and how they use flash?

Trying To Learn

I am trying to learn how to make a mouse follow effect using action script. I found the Horizontal menu bar on te US fla source file page and was looking through it. I am trying to recreate it just as a learning tool, but mine does not work. At all.
