Why Is This Happening?
i'm calling a javascript function from a "onClipEvent (mouseUp)" see below:

onClipEvent (mouseUp) {
getURL("javascript:info('test.htm')");
}

here's the javascript:

function info(URL) {
window.open(URL,'test',blah blah etc);
}

it works fine and does what i want BUT... now this is what i do not understand: ALL the other movieClips also call this function when you click on them even whether they have an action assigned to them or not.

What is happening and why, please help, please.

Not Sure Why This Is Happening...
Hey all, I have a movie which is 750 pixels wide. I also have an image which is 1200 pixels wide. I want to have the image be on the stage and then scroll to the left so you can see the rest of the image... But when I preview my movie the and even publish it.. the stage is more than 750 pixels wide... it shows almost the entire picture... Why is it showing stuff that is off the stage? Any idea how to fix this?

This Should Not Be Happening
I have some names(text) that I have turned into buttons. That is it. When you move over the names, they turn from black to white. So, why can't I see these when I preview or publish. I have even put them in a brand new flash file with a green background. There is nothing else in the movie. What is going on??????? I can send you the fla if you want. Please help!!!!!!!!

What's Happening?
Okay - so i think i might be half way there....I can get flash to read my image using the following script - this is in a movie clip:

loadMovieNum("image.jpg", 1);

And I'm using this to keep the movie in place on my stage.
onClipEvent(enterFrame) {
_x = 100;
_y = 100;
}

....BUT....this is where it falls flat - the movie clip keeps defaulting to the top left corner of my main movie!! Any ideas?

This Can't Be Happening...
I'm some what embarrased to have to be asking this question, but for some wack reason I'm having this problem. I'm using "gotoAndPlay("scene") and it's not working...it's simply going to the next scene for some reason. here is the diagram of my 2 menus, what my scene structure is and the code I'm using to go from "main" to "longform" - what am I missing here???

Where Is This Happening?
I have a flash movie attached here, which is a pretty basic .fla, and there is an action that when you rollover the top images, they load into the main window. I've torn this thing apart, and can't see where they are calling that to happen. I've got somewhat advanced flash skills, so I know where to look, but for some reason this is baffling me.

Can Anyone Tell Me Why This Is Happening?
ok, so I,ve checked my work in preview and in stand alone and in html document and on the local machine it all works fine, When I upload it to the webserver, the scroll pane that I am using from the gammer button loads the gameslist.swf but not so that it will scroll. Can anyone tell me why this would happen and what I nee dto do to sort it out??????

When you click "Calendar", all of a sudden the page is 'miniature'. This only happens on PC's as far as I can tell. What's going on?

P.S. Please don't ask why this is a Flash site -- it is sooooo basic, but they want to enhance it in the future.)

Now go to the "cool stuff" section. First look at the top one, the random blurry wave thing. Notice whatever you do with the mouse, the wave stays in the same position.
Now go to the next one down. Wow a its blurry star that moves around with the mouse.
Now go back to the first one. what? Why is the waveform now moving around with the mouse. I didn't code that! grrrr.

Any suggestions would be great.

Not Sure Why This Is Happening.
using flash 8

i have a dynamic text box that loads the text from a .txt file. http://www.lifecpr.com just under where it says "life savers news" is where this text should be appearing. it works fine in firefox, but in internet explorer, it does not load when the page is launched. when you return to the main page via a link, it loads. but if you refresh, it disappears again. this makes NO sense to me. check it out and see if you have any clues. ok i built a mc, that uses a loader to load in pics that are in swfs.. Like the one from kirupa.com... however once i throw it up online.. it doesn't work anymore.. the images don't get pulled anymore!

However what is weird is that if i just go to the url of my swf.. it loads everything perfectly, all the images... perfect... Now i throw it up in a site and it doen't work anymore.. it works locally.. as well!

Not Happening
when i import a swf, the sound normally does stay in the library...(am using flash 5)...but in this particular case it just doesn't get it!! (maybe coz the sound embedded is in mp3 format)
There is a software called bink and smack that normally can separate sound from the movie..but it doesn't support swf format.

Not Quite Sure Why This Is Happening. Help Plz
I have a mc w/ a blank keyframe at frame 1 and a stop() action, i.e., it is hidden to start with on the main timeline. This mc has a bunch of nested mc's in it which act as buttons:

The function works if there is no blank keyframe at frame 1, just the mc at frame 1, but as soon as I add a blank key frame so the mc can be hidden until I want it to show up by calling gotoAndPlay(2), the mc function above stops working. Im not quite sure why it loses its functionality when the timeline for the mc contains a blank keyframe. Could someone PLEASE help me out with this one? Thanks in advance.

btw, this problem also occurs if I keep the mc at frame 1 and add the blank keyframe to frame 2, then call gotoAndPlay(1) when I want the mc to show up on the main timeline. HELP!

Why Is This Happening?
If you go to my site (It's under construction) the buttons on my splash screen have started to behave in a very wierd manner. It asks if you want to save the shockwave object, and then won't let you if you try. I have a standard getURL on them and is supposed to take you to the main.

why are my pixel fonts being rendered nicely on pc and on mac theyre not the fonts i choose they look distorted its stange because the text looks fine its with the text that are in a mc button so you can see what i mean go here http://www.bmv-interactive.com when you rollover some of the buttons the text corresponding to each button is distorted and incorrect font it should be as the scrolling text any ideas or comments please let me know thanks

Anyone Know Why This Is Happening?
I just tested out my site in Firefox and IE. Everything works the way I want it to in Firefox but in IE I'm having trouble. When I click on a button my preloader shows up but doesn't stop to load the content, it plays straight through and then my movie pops up. Does anyone know why this might be happening? I've never encountered this problem before.

I have a bunch of externally loaded swf files that are supposed to load into the black square in the middle. As you can see... some of the swfs partially load... just the text for most, and then some dont. If you click another section then click back, it loads fine and you can see what it's supposed to look like. This doesn't make much sense to me, considering the swf files are done on a single frame, with the text just a layer below the image... so why does a portion of the swf load but the other doesn't and why do some and not others? I have the swfs loading using loadMovie. (example below)

Why Is This Happening?
I hope someone knows how to fix this because I can't figure it out. For some reason, the last .jpg in line for my sliding navigation always ends up looking like the 'pixel stretching effect' as you can see in the .swf(it is the first to come up and linked to button 4)
The first three images work fine, and I've used four different jpg's for the last one in the row. The image looks fine in the fla. I've used a colored rectangle with some text and that came out fine. Any ideas on this one?

Why Is This Happening
Does any one know why my loader percent text shows through my loaded movie?

Just click the movie clapper board to see what I mean.

The fabric swatches next to the clapper board (not loaded now) but these do work fine using exactly the same code.

I initially thought it was because of the alpha fade in but I've tried it with a solid background and it still does it. All my other movies load fine.

The rest of my code is takem from Lees tut on loading external swfs.

The movie clapper board is loaded in at the begining and when the board is pressed it calls this function in the main FLA

Can Someone Please Tell Me Exactly What Is Happening Here?
This is a flash website for nike.

and click on "submit your sweetspot" on the top right hand side menu panel. The flash will animate to reveal the cards then there is a slight pause before it continues the animation and you can notice that the address on the address bar has changed from #home to #contributive.

Exactly what is happening here, why have they build it like this and what is the purpose of it. Is this two html pages loading up with 2 different flash content, that's why there is a pause?

Randomly Happening
Greetings:

I need help on a small problem. I have a movie clip instance called lighting, which shows a bolt of lightning in the stage blinking in and out. Now what I want that movie clip to do is to randomly do it without having me telling it where to strike. I want it to strike in different places on the stage. _width Just Not Happening
Can anyone think of a circumstance when _width will not return a value for a dynamically loaded jpg?

I have a shell_mc that is told to load a jpg with

can anybody who has a mac and the flashplayer 6 installed please check out my site and tell me if they see 31 little orange hexagons
just above 'august 2003' in the lower right hand corner? It seems to work great on any PC, but on the two macs(OS X) that i looked at- they are TOTALLY gone, it's like they never loaded cuz you can't even mouse over and get the cursor to change!

Ok...website Is Done....but Now This Is Happening...
Ok, i made the website in flash already, its a 700 x 400 px, if i preview it on FlashMX (ctrl-enter) the window is the size of the monitor, all white background and in the middle is the flash movie which contains the site, thats good so far.

Now, if i double click on the flash movie (outside in windows, not in FLashMX) file it will open the flash movie in a window the exact size as the movie (700x400) which is ok also, now here comes the problem:

In dreamweaver i created an index.html page which contains only 2 links; an "ENTER FLASH SITE" link and a "GET FLASH PLUGIN" link, both opens in a new window, now why when i click on the "enter flash site" link, my flash movie loads in a window the size of the monitor?!?!?!?! (and not a 700 x 400), it looks soooooo huge and bad!

What AS Might Stop This From Happening?
Hi everyone, I'm building a page for my photography, and right now, it's 2 frames, a simple intro frame, and the main photography frame. The photography frame comes from an MX component I believe I got from flashcomponents.net some time ago.

Problem is, once you get to frame 2 (by clicking the blinking square in the middle of the page), if you click the 'home' button (that goes to frame 1), it doesn't unload the images, scrollbar from frame 2. I've not created any new pages yet, because I'm betting this will happen on all of them.

I'm guessing there's some action script I can use to unload it, but I'm not sure? My AS skills are nothing more than modifying other people's work because I'm not very good at programming anything other than basic buttons etc.

Could someone please give me some quick pointers that might help, and I can upload the fla if requested when I go home.

Thanks very much, and sorry if the design isn't there yet, nor indeed are 99% of the photos in there yet...but I like to solve 1 problem at a time...

Something Really Wierd Is Happening
Ok, I have a symbol that was converted into a movie clip, then a button. I have an animation in the movie clip with a stop action in the first frame, then on the button I have it:

Whats Happening?
I´m working on a website full in flash MX (not flash MX 2004).
When the site is loaded on a 1024x768 (the resolution wich it was made to work better) it loads fine, no problem.
However, when the site is loaded on a 800x600 window the part of the site who loads outside the view doesn´t work!
What´s happening?

Try to load the website on a 800x600 resolution and it won´t work properly (I.E: the bottom buttons (foreign visitors i.e) doesn´t work if they´re loaded out of the sight.

Something Weird Is Happening...please Help
ok so my website is slowly coming along, and i've run into yet another problem. when you open up index2.swf (the main page), and then click on the Home button, it will load a page identical to that of index2.swf. from there, if you click on Pictures or Videos, it will merely load that file over the news and links (i want the news and links to disappear when this happens). HOWEVER, let's say you are opening index2.swf for the first time. if you click on Pictures or Videos, the news and links will disappear, and then the proper page will load. from here, if you click on the Home button, the news and links will merely load underneath the Pictures or Videos page. how can i fix this???

Some AS Not Happening With Swfobject
Hi,

I am having a problem - that I am wondering if it is caused because I am using swfobject to embed the swf...

If I look at the actual swf file on the server all of the actions/buttons/frame events work great - but when I go to the .html page it isn't working - only the main buttons that change the frames within nested clips - but doesn't trigger any of the actions elsewhere

would it be the swfobject that is stopping the script?

Don't Understand Why This Is Happening
Hello,

Consider the following example. I have 3 movieclips, call them mcA, mcB and mcC. I want to put them in an array so I can set onRollOver and onRollOut effects on them.

Shouldn't the attached code work? It doesn't. The only way I have been able to get it to work is if I place the rollover
ollout effects directly on the movieclip and not on the main timeline. I assume this must be something simple, but I'm missing it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
