Record Locking. But No Editing
Please help ME!!!
I've got a data entry form with Bridge details and a separate form which contains all the construction data for the bridge.
All data is stored in SQL server and the front end is in MS access.
Since moving the data to SQL when a new construction is added to a bridge the data in the construction table becomes locked and can only be edited from the SQL backend and not from MS access.
So the question that I hope you can answer is :-
Why does the single row get locked after its been saved and stay locked
And how can I stop this from happening?

Another User Is Editing This Record
Hi I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this problem. I have a new database going live in two weeks. My problem is that I keep getting a message telling me that someone else is editing the record.. which is an impossibility as it is a stand-alone copy on my hard-drive at home! How is this possible? Will this problem be solved once I have this database on the sql server and the tables has been upsized to sql? Also this database is to be used by up to 100 people is this going to be a problem?

Duplicating And Editing A Record Via A Form
Earlier this year I was daft enough to mention at work that I was interested in learning a bit about access databases. As a result of that my boss has set me the task of replacing some old Dbase IV databases with Microsoft Access. I have started with importing data from an old document database and sought a wee bit of parameter query help in this forum a couple of months ago. As a result of the direction I was pointed in I have produced a creditable search facility via forms for my new document database. I have now turned to the data entry via a form and have come to a grinding halt with reproducing a feature the old Dbase one had. Once an entry for a new document was completed a message box would open asking if there was a second copy, with the answer no the entry would be saved and it would move onto the next new record. If the answer was yes it would duplicate the completed entry as a new record and modify the copy number +1 and save the record. This would be repeated for however many copies you had and until you answered. I have added a duplicate record command button to my form which works well but I have no idea how to modify the copy number field to reflect that this entry is for the second, third etc copies. Each document record has a seperate field for the copy number. I would welcome any help you can offer or directions to where I can find the answer. Many thanks

Editing By Combo Selection Not Record?
Hi, I am trying to update prices changes for products in my inventory database, and am stumped. I select a vendor, which then populates the product name from which I can then select the product I want to update. From here, it populates what the current prices are. I then can type the new price into the next box, but what happens is that it doesn't change that Product it changes the 1st record. Can anyone help!

Record Locking
I know there are various threads regarding this topic on the site already but think mine is a very basic problem... We constantly use a large multi user A97 database with b/e on server and up to 50 people accessing f/e to modify file content. Previously I had RecordLocks Property set to No locks and as a result users were occassionally trying to edit one file at same time and corruptions would occur. I have since changed RecordLocks Property to Edited Record and Open mode has always been shared. When looking at help I believe that if two people trying to save at the same time with Edited Record the second person should see locked record indicator and cannot edit record. However since changing this the second user is still getting a message giving them the options of overwriting the other user's changes to the record, copying your version of the record to the Clipboard, or discarding your changes. Is this correct? Furthermore when I access it through each users f/e their record locking is still set to No Locks in advanced options!!! This explains why they still get that msg. Is this the result of the way that the d/base was set up? When I changed the b/e no one else was accessing the d/base. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated:eek:

Locking Record
Had a good look at previous posts but couldn't find exactly what I am after. Having entered a record I don't want users to go back and edit/amend the input. I can see how to lock and unlock records but controlling this wilt say a checkbox also means any user can 'uncheck' and edit. Is there a method to restrict who can unlock ('uncheck') and edit a record, other than using Access Security permissions. Thanks RussG

Locking A Record Via Button
Hi all, I have created a form using Access 2003 which users have to enter data into. What I want is a button on the form which will display "lock record". When the user clicks this it will lock the record so that another user can’t accidentally change the field values. If they do want to change the field values the will have to press another button displaying “unlock form” Is this possible and how? Cheers

Record Locking Problem
Hi all, I have a split database, with identical front end databases that have tables linked to the back end database. All forms are all located in the client databases. Both databases are set to "no locks" (I believe this is referred to as "optimistic" record locking?) and are set to "shared" open mode. However 2 seperate users cannot open the main form, even when opening different records - it comes up with the record locking error message. Question - The form they open is filtered to show only one record (as selected on opening the form) - will this lock the whole table or just the one record it is looking at? I'm not sure I've explained myself brilliantly here - I'm not up on all the lingo! If you don't understand please say & I'll try to explain better.

Record Locking Error
 I created a data base in which 4 users enter information using a form. I have no record locking applied. When 2 or more of the users enter the form at the same time but have not entered any information they get a record lock error when one of them tries to enter data. The company wants to open this up to more people so I need to stop this from happening. Any ideas? I'm using access 2003 and windows xp. Is there a way to assign a new record upon opening the form rather than waiting for data to be entered? I think this would be my last resort because it could create alot of blank records. All help is appreciated. Thanks John:confused:

Access Record Locking Confusion
In OPTIONS -> Advanced I have the option Open Database using Record-Level locking ticked. What is strange is record level locking works on Form1 (Form1.recordlocks= Edited) as long as Form2 has Form2.recordlocks = No Locks. If I change the Form2.recordlocks = Edited, Form1's locking becomes page level locking. This is even true if Form2 is not open... Additionally, Form2's locking is always page level locking if Form2.recordlock = edited. I would like all my forms to perform RECORD level locking not page Level locking. How do I accomplish this. I've been trying to resolve this issue for about 2 months now but no answers from the community. Thanks for any comments.

Record Locking Error 3009
Hi All: I have a form that at certain times, requeries tables to update pricing. My problem, I have now found, is if users access this form at the same time (even if they are accessing different records) the second user will get error message 3009: "You tried to lock table while opening it, but the table cannot be locked because it is currently in use. Wait a moment..." when requery code runs. Does anyone have any recommendation on how to handle this? Anyway around this? I am at the end of a very long creation process and hope I don't have to reinvent the wheel. I'll hold my breath! Thanks! ps I have record-level locking set as well as edited-record record locking
