Rnd Based Off System Time/date
Hey all,
I'm trying to find a solution to a problem. Is there any way using VBA to generate a random number, based off the current system date and time? The theory is that a random number seeded by the system date/time will be truly unique and the possiblity of it ever occuring again will be nearly nil.
Or is there a better way to create unique ID's (such as member ID's, or something similiar) based off the system date/time that can be used as a primary key in a relational db.

Comparing A Date/Time Field To System Date
Hi, I am trying to compare a value in my databse produced by the date() function, short date format, to one that is exactly 24 hours after the value recorded by the date() function. If the value in the database is 24 hours prior to the current date(), I need to flag a text box a diffrent color to alert the user. I am unsure on the If statement that I will need to produce this result. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks Mikeco555

Invoice# Field Definition Based On Date And Time
In this thread: http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=549287#post549287 I had a problem. Now I decided to just make two tables, one with sales for a "passer by" and/or directly to a client without a case/labour costs. And a table for sales in relation to a case with labour costs etc. I guess I still m*ssed up on that part and have to make do with that decision (kind of like I depicted in the photoshopped image). For invoicenumbers I want to use DDMMYYYYHHMM. When adding that field to the design of a table, how do I go about that? Do I just use a Text field and create an input mask for that? Or do I need to use a number format with a certain input mask? Or would it be wiser just to use the date/time type of field and give it a new inputmask? I guess 000000000000 would be the one for that, right? Although I read the help file I do not know if I should use ;0; behind those first group of zero's or not. Yes it is a mandatory field, but it will fill in itself as soon as a product is typed in in the product/invoice list, with a default value of the current date and time. I need to brush up my knowledge on the formatting for that so that 28-05-1975 19:55 will be displayed and stored as 280519751955. Or is that also done automatically by using that input mask? Or will that give an error when Date or Time() etc. is used for that field in VBA? Just a few questions I need some help with, I've been trying some stuff but it really doesn't "stick". And if anyone has some time, I could really use some general advice/ideas for setting up the invoicing part differently for a new version of the db yet to come in the future.

Pulling Latest Record Based On Date And Time?
Hello All... I'm very new to Access.. so please forgive my ignorance.. Here is the scenario.. I have a table with two fields named "item" & "description" that contains 10 records total. I have another table with 100 records with the fields "invoice #","item", "price paid","date paid","time paid". The item fields are linked between the two, and the 100 records contain different invoices for these ten items. I want to pull the price paid off of the latest invoice, based on the time and date... What is the easiest way to do this? Thanks!

Hard Code TIME To Selected Date On Form (to Make It Date&time) For My Query Criteria
Hello buddies :D, do you have any idea how to make this work? To select data that falls within this criteria of date range between cboDate and cboDate2 (fields on my form). The date in [tblJobDetails]![timeIn] come in this format "08/17/06 10:24 AM", but the cboDate/cboDate2 (takes in date only e.g 08/17/06) what i am after is to evaluate specific hard coded time in addition to the date entered, i.e. even tho, i haven't entered time on the cboDate/cboDate2, I want specific time hard coded where e.g If i select a date range of 08/17/06 and 08/18/06 on my cboDate and cboDate2 it should really be evaluating: 08/17/06 8:00 AM to 08/18/06 8:00 AM. This is the criteria i curentlly have on my query in design view tha works perfect in selecting date only. ([tblJobDetails]![timeIn]>=[Forms]![frmPendingJobs]![cboDate] Or [tblJobDetails]![timeIn]>=[Forms]![frmPendingJobs]![cboDate] Is Null) And ([tblJobDetails]![timeIn]<=[Forms]![frmPendingJobs]![cboDate2] Or [tblJobDetails]![timeIn]<=[Forms]![frmPendingJobs]![cboDate2] Is Null) How can I incorporate 8:00am to 8:00am into my cboDate and cboDate2. What can i do to make this happen? Your kindness will be greatly appreciated http://www.naijaryders.com/forums/images/smilies/thankyou.gif

Creating A Timer Event That Checks System Time?
I need a query run that brings up a list of customers that need maintence after 6 months after their last maintence service. As soon as you open the DB, the event/query runs and if there are any customers past due to display them. And if there are none, to not even show the query at all. I have very little experience with timers and if/then statements and don't know how to set this up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Group By System Date
hi guys,I want to group a field in my query within a certain period of time, say 1 week. (e.g. between #12/5/2005# and #12/11/2005 23:00:00#) however I need to run this query every week.so I don't want to have to change the dates every week just to run the query. Is there a way to use the system's calendar date so that the values will be input automatically (i.e. to group between today and today-6 23:00:00)?? maybe using date() function or something?? heaps n heaps of thx!!:D

System Not Recognizing Date Input
I have a form where the user inputs a date into a combo box and then selects a command button. There are two options: 1. The user can select an exiting entry (by date from the combo box) to edit a existing entry. 2. to create a new entry they enter a new date (not in the combo box). Then the user selects a command button. The command button has an onClick macro where the value in the combo box is checked (IsNull([Combo40])) If the "IsNull([Combo40])" is true a message box is presented saying the date field is blank. The problem is (finally) if you enter a new date "3/3/04" and forget to hit the enter key the system doesn't recognize the entry, in other words the "IsNull([Combo40])" evaluates to TRUE. We currently have the msgBox remind the user to hit the enter key but that seems a little low tech. Is there anyway to look at the field and see the data even though the user forgot to hit the enter key?? Thanks

How To Prevent Subsequent System Date From Being Update
I've design a form as such when i FIRST add a NEW RECORD, I want the system date to be capture into the form. I have a table calls Register. And this table has a field "DATE" which takes the value of the system date(=now). However, when i open the same record the next time, the orginal value(at the time when the record is created) of the field "DATE" will be replaced by the new system date. However, i do not want this to be happen because i want the field "DATE" to take the value of the system date when i first created the record. My question is how to prevent subsequent system date from being updated in the record whenever i open the same record? Thank you.

Ignore Time In Date And Time Field
Hi, Wonder if someone can help please. I'm quite new to Access so please bear with me. I have a data field in my database consisting of both a date and time. I then have a form containing two fields where the user can type a 'To' and 'From' date to extract the records that they are interested in. The query behind this uses the 'Between[Enter The Date] And [Enter The Date]' coding. The problem is that because the field contains a time it doesn't return any records when I run the query. Can anyone offer a bit of guidance on how I could ignore the time part of the field perhaps by adapting the above. Many thanks Chris

Figuring A Start Date Based On End Date And Hours
I manage training for a large organization and am able to get a data dump that contains class end dates and class hours. Based off of those two, is it possible to determine a start date (excluding non-business days)? For example, a 2 day class would be 16 'Hours' with an 'End Date' of Friday the 15th. Is there a formula that would give me Thursday the 14th as a 'Start Date?' More importantly, if 'Hours' is 80 and the 'End Date' Friday the 15th, would it be able to give me a 'Start Date' of Monday the 4th? Can Access account for holidays?

Date Range Based On A Record Date
I am trying to filter out information for an ODBC query I have written, to obviously make it more concise. Because our data is not set up very logically, a lot of my queries are based on text...but that is another story. My current situation starts with a simple make-table query finding certain data within a date range. This is followed up by another simple make-table query to find other specific data within another specified date range. Then I have a cross-tab query between the two tables to locate all the data that shares the same unique identifiers. My problem lies with trying to only pull information from a certain date range. For example, I want information to be included if the data has the same unique identifier as well as falls within +/- 7 days of the received date (dd/mm/yyyy) also listed in one of the tables. Each record will likely have different received dates so I cannot set it as a constant. Make sense to anyone? I am not confident enough to play around with some expressions...well it is more I haven't been successful at using them correctly. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jay

Report Back A Fee Based On Time
Hello. I have been given a set of pricing tables in Excel that, based on the type of work done, show a dollar amount for time ranges. In other words, if WorkType = A, the appropriate pricing table is referenced and the amount of time in minutes is found within ranges ("0 - .3333", ".3333 - .6500", etc) shown in hour decimals (.3333 = 20 minutes), then an associated dollar amount is reported back. (I know... very awkward, but not my choice). The time ranges are not consistent in size either within a particular pricing table nor across tables. The person using these tables is doing this manually now. What I need to be able to do is enter the WorkType and duration, and get the dollar amount from the table, even though the duration is not going to exactly match the value in the table. In Excel's VLOOKUP, you can put in amounts that not exact, and the function finds the highest value less than your entry. Can Access do that? I tried reading up on DLOOKUP, but I don't think that is what I need (or maybe I just don't understand it). I'm not sure of an efficient table setup or how to get the correct output. Thanks for all your help!! Tom

Display Shift Based On Time
I'm making a dispatch call database that will be sorted at the end of the month based on call types and which shift that call was originated on. Our shifts are 6a-2p, 2p-10p, 10p-6a. I am figuring that the time would be converted to minutes and then the display would be figured based on which times the minutes occured between. IE: the call origintaed at 0100hrs = 60 minutes. It would figure that 60minutes translates to "Night Shift". How would I convert time into minutes and how would the if/then be established? Thanks so much for all your help Dave
