Stock Market Portfolio Database Sample

Hi Folks,

A friend intends to build a database for his portfolio as a learning exercise with Access. He is pretty much starting from scratch.

Does anybody know of/have a sample DB that would be a useful guide to him on his journey?

I have searched & googled but found very little, although I expected to find something as I presume this is something a lot of people would have done. Maybe I'm wrong?

Edit: Post title possibly slightly misleading so I changed it!

Need Sample Database For Stock Transactions

Hi,

I'm in over my head with something I've been asked to do at work as my access skills are pretty basic.

I need a sample database containing PRODUCTS and SUPPLIERS, that lets you book IN stock received from the supplier (and adds to the stock level) and lets you book OUT stock issued to staff (and reduces the stock level)

I'll have a go at reorder levels, form design, stuff like that myself, but I'm having trouble with these very basic requirements.

Does anyone know of a sample database that I can download to learn some of this from?

Market Data

Hi,

I have program that downloads the historical data for over 1000 market stocks i.e. open, close, high, low and volume for the last 3 months.

I would now like to interrogate the data by creating a bunch of queries i.e. 30 day moving average, Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) and RSI etc.

Does anyone have any examples of doing this please or can you point me in the right direction.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Creating Time Series For Portfolio Values

Dear All,

once again I need your help, I have no idea how to tackle the following problem. I am taking records of stock market transactions. As a final result I want to have a query which gives me for every end of the day the total value of my portfolio.
Therefore I have two tables. The first one, called tblTransactions with columns - among others - Date, Ticker, Quantity, Price does contain my transactions. The second one, called tblQuotes with columns Date, Ticker, LastPrice contains prices for each security traded for every day.
The following SQL code gives me the portfolio holdings with the respective LastPrices on an arbitrarily chosen date (03/09/07):

SELECT T.Ticker, sum(T.Qty) AS TotQty, Q.qCl AS [Last Price], (T.Qty*Q.qCl) AS [SubTotalValue]
FROM tblTransactions AS T INNER JOIN tblQuotes AS Q ON T.Ticker=Q.qTicker
WHERE T.Date<=#3/9/2007# And Q.qDate=#3/9/2007#
GROUP BY T.Ticker, Q.qCl, (T.Qty*Q.qCl)
HAVING sum(T.Qty) >0
ORDER BY T.Ticker;

This works so far. However, now I struggle with the next step. I want to have a query, which for each date (I could use the date column of tblQuotes) adds all SubTotalValues, i.e. gives me the total value of my portfolio for each day.

Could you give me please some hints on how to proceed from here? I would be very pleased if somebody could help me with that question.

Best regards

Help With Stock Database!

Hi,

I am creating a database which keeps control of stock. Each item is scanned in with a barcode scanner and given a unique stock number. The Manufacturer, System, Subsystem, Location and Classification is then added.

When a customer phones, and orders a product i.e. a camera, a customer order number can be added to the item in stock. The problem with this is that if the customer is ordering a number of items, and other items are not in stock yet, this item needs to be seen as unavailable. Due to large amounts of stock, i do not want to allocate the customer a specific item with stock number, but just allocate one of the many items of that sort. I do not want to allocate a specific item as when you go to collect the item from the stock room, every item of this type would have to be checked to find the specific stock number, which would be timely and difficult.

I tried using a make table query, which copies the information from the stock table, except the stock number, and so with this list, i will have a list of every item. I can then produce a table which shows me how many of each type of item is available. The problem is, this needs to update every time more stock is added, but i also need to be able to allocate a number of the items, and this becomes unavailable stock. At the moment, each time the query is run, the information is overwritten.

Please can someone help me if they can think of a better idea of how to do this! Im not that hot on programming, and so a in depth description of what to do would be great!

How To Update Stock From A Subform, When Stock Is Inputed Manual - Version: 2003 (11.0)

Delivery is inputed manually, and stored under the table, parts!stock. When stock delivered, basic maths functions are needed to be known by the user. ie. 5 in stock, 10 new arrived, change 5 to 15.

I have an order form(OrderID) and a subform(OrderDetailsID) with the products ordered, qty and price.

I run an update sql in vb, but it only updates the partID(inside OrderDetailsID) that it has focus on.

I'm trying to do a loop, while OrderID = current, update sql, current sock - ordered qty. something like that. (It's 2:40am, too tierd. hahahaha)

How about if there are returns and parts need to be returned back to stock?
or
When the order is cancelled?

Sounds complicated and lots of work. Is there another way? easier and quicker?

I'm confussed.

Trying To Take A Variable Amount Of Stock From The Stock Databas - Version: 2002 (10.0) XP

Hello...

Ok, I am working on my A-Level coursework, and have an order system linked to product and customer tables.

The order system is made by two tables, one storing the date of the particlar order, the customer number and then the primary key, which is run by an autonumber (OrderID).

The other table contains all the details about a specific product, linked by the primary key of the first table (OrderID).

These are then pulled together in a form, and to create an order, you enter the date, tab, (inefficent but i have no workaround yet, tried a date() function but couldnt see a way to enter it into the date field to be stored in the database), the customer number, tab, (DLookups fill in the rest of the customer information... see screenshot), product number, tab (DLookups fill in again) then quantity required, tab to go to the exit button, and the sums are completed, filling in price information.

Currently my product database, as well as containg information about the products (description, part no., price, etc..) contains 4 extra columns, NoItemsInStock, DeliveryDue, NoExpected, StockThreshold.

I have created a query and then linked it to a report, that when run (off the switchbord) will show all the items, simply that are below the StockThreshold.

However, I now want to be able to take the quantity number that is entered into the order subform, and get some sort of macro or code run by a button that will deduct the relevant number of stock of the relevent product.

I am using a basic access auto-built switchboard, using Tools>Utilities>Switchboard Manager.

I've zipped 3 screenshots and sent them.. my system is 4mb and growing...!

My deadline is rapidly approaching, I dont have much more time, so any help you can give me would be really appreciated... thanks!

Johnathon

3 Tier Combo - Based On A Sample Database

Hello!

I'm still working on this supplier database for my boss and the supplier filter section is still causing me problems.

Let me set the scene for you....

I have a form with 3 combo boxes on it. These are cboProg, cboPPS & cboSupplier.

I need to get the combo's working so that when you select a programme from cboProg it filters the list in cboPPS (Primary Product or Service) to show only products and/or services that are used on that programme. In turn I need to make it so that when you select one of these Primary Product or Service's from cboPPS it filters the list of suppliers in cboSupplier to show only suppliers that provide that product or service.

Essentially, I have a HUGE list of suppliers that I want to filter down to suppliers that work on a programme providing a particular product or service using the combo boxes in the order shown below.

Programme (cboProg) --(filters)--> Primary Product or Service (cboPPS) --(filters)--> Supplier (cboSupplier)

When I have filtered the list of suppliers down to a list that worked on programme X, providing product or service Y, I'd like to make it so that you can just double click on that suppliers name to open their details.

I've based my previous efforts on a sample database called dbcombos that I found on this forum (I've attached it to this post). The only problem with this database is that itís 2 sets of 2 tiered combo boxes on the same form and not a 4 tiered set of combo boxes as I originally thought.

Any ideas? All help greatly appreciated!

Problem With MouseTrap Sample After Securing Database

ghudson:

I am experiencing a problem with the mousetrap sample after I secured my database.

When I save on my main form and I try to go to my subform I keep getting the "Please Save this Record! You can not advance to another record until you either 'Save' the changes made to this record or 'Undo' your changed."

I have saved but it is still preventing me from going to the my subform. I numbered the Save Required msgs so that I know which one I am getting and I am getting the one from:

Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
On Error GoTo Err_Form_BeforeUpdate

Me.tbHidden.SetFocus

If Me.tbProperSave.Value = "No" Then
Beep
MsgBox "Please Save This Record!" & vbCrLf & vbLf & "You can not advance to another record until you either 'Save' the changes made to this record or 'Undo' your changes.7", vbExclamation, "Save Required"
DoCmd.CancelEvent
Exit Sub
End If

Exit_Form_BeforeUpdate:
Exit Sub

Err_Form_BeforeUpdate:
If Err = 3020 Then 'Update or CancelUpdate without AddNew or Edit
Exit Sub
Else
MsgBox Err.Number, Err.Description
Resume Exit_Form_BeforeUpdate
End If

End Sub

Above it is checking if tbProperSave.Value = "No" and in bSave you have
Case vbYes: 'Save the changes
Me.tbProperSave.Value = "Yes"
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord
Me.tbProperSave.Value = "No"

So it's setting the value to no again?

I know it's not a permissions thing because I am admin and have full permissions on the forms.

Any suggestions?

Stock Control Database

I am developing a simple database for stock control as a short term measure until we get a permanent solution. All I wish to do is to be able to record additions to stock and record issues from stock. I need to be able to query for a raw material Part # and see what Lots are available and their locations and then be able to issue stock from these locations. Ideally this would be done from the same form.

I am looking for some advice on the best way to set this up.

Here is my thoughts/approach -

I so far have set up three tables

tblStock

tblLocation

tblMaterialPN

I have set up a tblStock with the following fields

transaction# - autonumber - primary key

MaterialPN - text - alphanumeric field

MatlLot# - text - Each raw material delivery or unit is given a unique # but the quantity of material is not fixed.

Location - text - warehouse locations where lot is stored.

WorkOrderLot# - text - This is the work order(job) number that stock is issued to from the warehouse. (Raw materials added to stock will not have a WorkOrderLot#).

Qty - number - quantity transacted

Date - date/Time - Date of transaction

Signoff - text - Name/initials of individual that conducted transaction.

AddStock - Yes/No - tick box for adding stock

RemoveStock - Yes/No - tick box for removing stock.

The Location table has just a list of the locations.

The MaterialPN table has the following fields

s_code - text - material part #

s_desc - text - material part description

The tables are linked as follows

MaterialPN (tblStock) to s_code (tblMaterialPN) N:1

Location (tblStock) to Location (tblLocation) N:1

I have set up three forms

frmLocations - for entering/creating new warehouse locations - linked to tblLocation

frmMaterial - for entering/creating new raw material parts and descriptions - linked to tblMaterialPN

frmStock - for entering all stock transactions - This form with be used to populate the tblStock. This form will take MaterialPN from tblMaterialPN using a drop down list and put the selected value in the MaterialPN field of the tblStock. The Date field will default to the current date. The user will add all other data. Either the AddStock box or the RemoveStock box will be ticked depending on the transaction type.

To calculate stock I will add all the records with a tick in the add stock box and add all the records with a tick in the remove stock box and subtract totals to find stock on hand.

How does the above approach look?

What is the best way to display stock and locations and to be able to remove stock from a selected location without having to leave form? Maybe using a new form that while still been able to view the result of the original query??

All advice would be appreciated.

Barcoding Stock Control Database

Hi,

I am a beginner with making databases, so am looking for a bit of advice so I can know where to start.
What I'm trying to do is make a stock control database for our drugs dispensary as there are constantly drugs going in and out and they need to be able to keep track of where drugs have gone and what quantity levels they have.

I also have a 2D barcode scanner which scans and reads the drugs barcodes in the following format:

Product Code [Enter]
Product Descripition [Enter]
Batch Number [Enter]
Expiry Date [Enter]

So I would have thought the best thing would be to have a form with these fields in so the user could scan a barcode in filling in these fields. and that would then input the drugs into stock (Obviously there would be a quantity field too)

But where Im getting stuck is how could I then produce a form much like the one above with a search button. So the user could blip in the barcode filling in the relavant fields and then search for that product based on the products batch number?

Any Help would be MUCH appreciated.

Many Thanks

The Dreaded Stock Control Database!

I have started making a stock control database, i have spent about a week on it, And i am struggling! There are obviously lots of different ways to actually build them efficiently. My problem is that i want to add stock and take stock out, changing the stock quantity and obviously keeping track of stock. I only want to ammend the stock quantity, in the stock table if the item is not a new item. The stock is added via a log sheet which could also have a new item. My head is beginning to hurt, but with a bit of help from you guys i might be able to crack it.

The Tables I have are:

tblStock

tblCategories

tblSuppliers

tblInventory transaction

tblStock_in

tblStock_Out

tblEmployees

Is this sufficient? Can i add stock and take stock out with one transaction table? Or would i need to add another table? I believe the code would be through a query but again am a little unsure as never done anything like this!

Please help!!

Help Needed On A Stock Control Database

Hi

I am quite new to access and i can grasp things quite easily.

Basically i am make a stock control data base for a food company. I am making it so theres an order table and a stock table. Basically i want to know how to change the Quantity avalible in the stock table fom the orders table.

I dont know if i have explained that very well. But basically i have related the product name in the stock table to the product name in the order table. So i can add a number so that that the quantity of the product will change on the stock table.

If there are any easier ways of doing this rather than having 2 tables it would be useful

Ive tried all types of things and i cant get it to work. Any help would be very much appriceated.

Product/Stock Access Database

I need a basic Product database that allows you to have a drop down menu to select a product from a table. In turn this puts the unit price in for you, you then put the quantity in and it calculates the total.

I also have a stock control. When one is bought it takes the quantity down. Very simple I know but I canít get it to workÖ.

If there are any good basic database templates i could use let me know

EPOS/Stock Database Questions

Dear Reader

I am a realtivly new user and I do not know alot of things about Access

I have set up a database, and within this database, i have a table with my product details (the products are books, details include: ISBN, Title, Stock Level, and Price), I also have a table with customer's information (Name, Contact details, etc). I have created an order form, from which a user selects the customers name from a drop down list, and then he selects his name, and finally the date. Following this the user then works within a subform.

This subform has the following details, Order ID, Book ID, and Quantity Ordered. After this I want there to be a subtotal. I have no idea as to how to set this up, but I am assuming that I would need a query or something, to look up the price of the books, and then to multiply it by the quantity that the customer wants. Following this ideally I would like a small box on the main form saying the total value of the order.

Would their be anyway, to add the book ISBN number into the subform, where the user could either type in the ISBN number or select from a combo box the book title, but either way, both fields are updated, what ever method is used.

From this subform, I would like to be able to print out an order summary/invoice. This would contain all the books ordered by the customer in the current transaction, as well as the customerís information, and the total of the order.

And my final question is probably the hardest one. Is their anyway (possibly by pressing a button) to automatically minimize the stock value on the products table, by the quantity chosen by the user in the order form? And if the quantity wanted is greater than the amount in stock, for a message to appear on the Order Summary/Invoice stating "On Order"

Using the above method, would it then be possible through the creation of a query to show what customers have ordered in the past, in a tab on the customer's details form.

Thanking you in advanced

I got alot of help on here creating this, so wanted to share the results and maybe some users on here will be able to use it as well.

I'm not attaching all the spreadsheet functions and everything. The database I'm attaching will zip the file and then send it as an attachment to a distribution list.
