Can I Split A Long .sql File Into Multiple Files?

 I have one really long .sql file I'm working on.  It's actually a data conversion type script.  It's gotten really cumbersome to work on as long as it is.  I would like to split up various logical parts of script into their own .sql file.
How can I have one file .bat, .sql or whatever call each .sql file in the order I specify?
 Hoping this is easy.

Thanks

Split Txt File Into Multiple
How can I split this incoming file into separate txts.  I want to cut out each Header/detail row section into a new txt.  What I mean by header/detail row:

incoming txt file:

http://www.webfound.net/split.txt

basically want to cut out each section like this:

http://www.webfound.net/what_to_cut.txt

http://www.webfound.net/rows.jpg

and a kicker...each new txt name must use a certain field (based on x numbers in header row) followed by another field whcih is the date form the header row.  somethign like this:

SUBSTRING(InputFieldBigString,LEN(InputFieldBigString) - 59,4) == "HD" + SUBSTRING(InputFieldBigString,LEN(InputFieldBigString) - 1,8) == "HD" + .txt

I need some hand holding here, it's my first time trying to do something so complicated in SSIS 2005.  If I can first just get the txt split into multiple, that would be a big help.

Split Long Text
Good day,

I have a database table that is populated by bulk insert of a text file. This file is not comma delimetated and there are no line end characters, just one very long string, although the file is fixed length.

As I said I now have this long string in my SQL Server 2005 table. Is there a fast way to split this up into multiple rows?

Say for instance I have a string of 100 characters and each row would be made up of 10 characters. Is there a easy way to split this into the 10 rows or 10 characters using just a SQL statement?

Please can someone help.
Thanks

Combine Multiple RDL Files Into One RDL File

Hello,
I need to generate a report, which should display 4 reports. Two tables and some charts. I have all these reports (I mean the .RDL files) individually. I can render the reports separately. But, now the need is to combine these reports in the one RDL file. Is this possible? If yes, how?

Also, I tried to create a stored procedure, which would call all these 4 SP inturn and provide 4 result sets. I thought of have an RDL by calling only this SP which would give 4 result sets. But infortunately, it gave only the first SP's result set. So, I have to combine the 4 RDL files into one to show on the Reporting Console. Can anyone please help me in this? Help would be grately appreciated.

Thanks a lot. Let me know if the question is not clear.

DTS Import Of Multiple Text Files (various File Lengths)
I am attempting to use the DTS package found on http://www.swynk.com/friends/green/dtsdirloopstep.asp
that imports all test file from a directory into a SQL server table. I have been able to run this procedure successfully when all files in the directory contain the same number of columns.

I have run into a problem when I am working with files of variable lengths. Each file contains a core group of 5 columns. What follows these columns can be anything from 0-35 columns. The DTS procedure will run fine until is encounters a file that has less columns that the file that initialized the process.

Is a DTS package that handles this scenario too much to ask for. This original package was a gift from heaven. Hopefully it can be modified to handle this condition.

Conditional Split - 0 KB Out Files
Hi,

I'm exporting data to different text files depending on a condition.
My "conditional split" looks like

@[User::Variable0] == 0
@[User::Variable1] == 1
@[User::Variable2] == 2...........etc...

I've about 8 output files from the "conditional split".
For each run, only one condition is valid.
When I run the package with value 0, I need to get only one output file with condition 0's data.
That's working fine but I'm getting all other output files with 0KB, which I don't want.
I'm getting like:
Var0.txt ---------------> 2KB
Var1.txt ---------------> 0KB
Var2.txt ---------------> 0KB
Var3.txt ---------------> 0KB
........... etc.

How can we eliminate those 0 KB files?

Thanks..
Siva.

Physical Setup: 1 Data File Vs Multiple Smaller Data Files
Hello all. Before my arrival at my current employer, our consultantsphysically set up our MSSQL 7 server as follows:drive c: contains the mssql enginedrive d: contains the transaction logdrive e: contains the data filesNo filegroups were set up and the data files consist of only 1 largephysical file. Currently, our data file is >10GB. When I was trained onthe physical aspects of sqlserver, I was told to never create physical files[color=blue]> 2048MB each. If I did, I could expect inefficient physical storage of[/color]data and slower performance (due to the OS).Our server has 2 RAID-5 arrays. Drive c: and e: are located on the firstarray and drive d: on the second. We're running Windows 4.0 NT Server SP6with NTFS.Can someone comment on the use of 1 single large data file vs. more smallerdata files?

Split Row's Columns Across Multiple Tables
Hello,

Hoping someone here can help. Perhaps I'm missing something obvious, but I'm surprised not to see a data flow task in SSIS for splitting *columns* to different destinations. I see the Conditional Split task can be used to route a *row* one way or another, but what about columns of a single row?

As a simple and somewhat contrived example, let's say I have a row with twelve fields and I'm importing the row into a normalized data structure. There are three target tables with a 1-to-1 relationship (that is, logically they are one table, but physically they are three tables, with one of them considered the "primary" table), and the twelve input fields can be mapped to four columns in each of the three tables.

How do I "split" the columns? The best way I can see is to Multicast the row to three different OLE-DB Destinations, each of which inserts to one of the three target tables, only grabbing the four fields needed from the input row.

Or should I feed the row through three successive OLE-DB Command tasks, each one inserting into the appropriate table? This would offer the advantage, theoretically, of allowing me to grab the identity-based surrogate primary key from the first of the three inserts in order to enable the two subsequent inserts.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Split One Field In Multiple New Rows
HiHo,
just a beginners question:

I have the following row with 2 fields:

Field 1:            Task A
Field 2:´           1;2;3;4

The number of semicolon divided elements in Field 2 is variabel.

I would like to create new rows like:

    Row 1      Field 1:     A            Field 2:        1
    Row 2      Field 1:     A            Field 2:        2
    Row 3      Field 1:     A            Field 2:        3
    Row 4      Field 1:     A            Field 2:        4

I think I should use a Foreach Loop.
But I don't exactly how to do it?

Combine Data And Split Into Separate Txt Files For Each Header/detail Row Groupings
I€™ve created with the help of some great people an SSIS 2005 package which does the follow so far:

1)       Takes an incoming txt file.  Example txt file: http://www.webfound.net/split.txt

The txt file going from top to bottom is sort of grouped like this
     Header Row (designated by €˜HD€™)
          Corresponding Detail Rows for the Header Row
           €¦..
     Next Header Row
          Corresponding Detail Rows

     €¦and so on

       http://www.webfound.net/rows.jpg

2)       Header Rows are split into one table, Maintenance Detail Rows into another, and Payment Detail Rows into a third table.  A uniqueID has been created for each header and it€™s related detail rows to form a PK/FK relationship as there was non prior to the import, only the relation was in order of header / related rows below it when we first started.  The reason I split this out is so I can massage it later with stored proc filters, whatever€¦

Now I€™m trying to somehow bring back the data in those table together like it was initially using a query so that I can cut out each of the Header / Detail Row sections into their own txt file.  So, if you look at the original txt file, each new header and it€™s related detail rows (example of a cut piece would be http://www.webfound.net/rows.jpg) need to be cut out and put into their own separate txt file.

This is where I€™m stuck.  How to create a query to combine it all back into an OLE DB Souce component, then somehow read that souce and split out the sections into their own individual txt files.

The filenames of the txt files will vary and be based on one of the column values already in the header table.

Here is a print screen of my package so far:

http://www.webfound.net/tasks.jpg

http://www.webfound.net/Import_MaintenanceFile_Task_components.jpg

http://www.webfound.net/DataFlow_Task_components.jpg

Let me know if you need more info.  Examples of the actual data in the tables are here:

http://www.webfound.net/mnt_headerRows.txt
http://www.webfound.net/mnt_MaintenanceRows.txt
http://www.webfound.net/mnt_PaymentRows.txt

Here's a print screen of the table schema:

DTS - Split Single Source Record (text) To Multiple Target (sql)
I am using DTS and VBScript in DataPump tasks in order to transfer large amounts of data from text files to an SQL database.

As the database uses a normalized schema, there is often the case of inserting multiple records in a destination table from various fields of the same record of the source text file.

For example, if the source record contains information about goods sold like date, customer, item code, item name and total amount, and does so for a maximum of 3 goods per sale (row), therefore has the structure:

[date], [custid], [code1], [name1], [amount1], [code2], [name2], [amount2], [code3], [name3], [amount3]

trying to transfer that record to a [SALES] target table (in a normalized database), we would have to split each source record as follows:

[date], [custid], [code1], [name1], [amount1]
[date], [custid], [code2], [name2], [amount2]
[date], [custid], [code3], [name3], [amount3]

What is the best way to do this using DTS?

I have tried using a datapump task and VBScript, and I guess it has to do with the DTSTransformStat_**** constants, but none of those I used seems to work

Moving Files (split From An Existing Thread-SSIS Equivalent To DTS Transform Data Task Properties)
Hi JayH (or anyone). Another week...a new set of problems. I obviously need to learn .net syntax, but because of project deadlines in converting from DTS to SSIS it is hard for me to stop and do that. So, if someone could help me some easy syntax, I would really appreciate it.

In DTS, there was a VBScript that copied a set of flat files from one directory to an archive directory after modifying the file name. In SSIS, the directory and archive directory will be specified in the config file. So, I need a .net script that retrieves a file, renames it and copies it to a different directory.

Linda

Here is the old VBScript Code:

Public Sub Main()

Option Explicit

Function Main()

Dim MovementDataDir

Dim MovementArchiveDataDir

Dim MovementDataFile

Dim MovementArchiveDataFile

Dim FileNameRoot

Dim FileNameExtension, DecimalLocation

Dim CurMonth, CurDay

Dim FileApplicationDate

Dim fso ' File System Object

Dim folder

Dim FileCollection

Dim MovementFile

'======================================================================

'Create text strings of today's date to be appended to the archived file.

FileApplicationDate = Now

CurMonth = Month(FileApplicationDate)

CurDay = Day(FileApplicationDate)

If Len(CurMonth) = 1 Then

CurMonth = "0" & CurMonth

End If

If Len(CurDay) = 1 Then

CurDay = "0" & CurDay

End If

FileApplicationDate = CurMonth & CurDay & Year(FileApplicationDate)

'=====================================================================

' Set the movement data directory from the global variable.

MovementDataDir = DTSGlobalVariables("gsMovementDataDir").Value

MovementArchiveDataDir = DTSGlobalVariables("gsMovementDataArchiveDir").Value

fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")

folder = fso.GetFolder(MovementDataDir)

FileCollection = folder.Files

' Loop through all files in the data directory.

For Each MovementFile In FileCollection

' Get the full path name of the current data file.

MovementDataFile = MovementDataDir & "" & MovementFile.Name

' Get the full path name of the archive data file.

MovementArchiveDataFile = MovementArchiveDataDir & "" & MovementFile.Name

DecimalLocation = InStr(1, MovementArchiveDataFile, ".")

FileNameExtension = Mid(MovementArchiveDataFile, DecimalLocation, Len(MovementArchiveDataFile) - DecimalLocation + 1)

FileNameRoot = Mid(MovementArchiveDataFile, 1, DecimalLocation - 1)

MovementArchiveDataFile = FileNameRoot & "_" & FileApplicationDate & FileNameExtension

If (fso.FileExists(MovementDataFile)) Then

fso.CopyFile(MovementDataFile, MovementArchiveDataFile)

' If the archive file was coppied, then delete the old copy.

If (fso.FileExists(MovementArchiveDataFile)) Then

fso.DeleteFile(MovementDataFile)

End If

End If

Next

fso = Nothing

folder = Nothing

FileCollection = Nothing

Importing Multiple Flat Files To Multiple Tables In SSIS
I have a couple of hundred flat files to import into database tables using SSIS.

The files can be divided into groups by the format they use. I understand that I could import each group of files that have a common format at the same time using a Foreach Loop Container.

However, the example for the Foreach Loop Container has multiple files all being imported into the same database table. In my case, each file needs to be imported into a different database table.

Is it possible to import each set of files with the same format into different tables in a simple loop? I can't see a way to make a Data Flow Destination item accept its table name dynamically, which seems to prevent me doing this.

I suppose I could make a different Data Flow Destination item for each file, in the Data Flow. Would that be a reasonable solution, or is there a simpler solution, or should I just resign myself to making a separate Data Flow for every single file?

Bulk Insert Multiple Files To Multiple Tables - How?
I need to be able to bulk insert a bunch of tables from their corresponding flat file.  I have created an XML file (see below) which has the file name/table name pair at each node.  I then created a ForEachLoop task and used the Node enumeration type and the following OuterXpathString: ReferenceFiles/File.  At this point I get lost.  How do I pass the 2 inside node values (file name and table name) to variables which I can then use as expressions for the bulk insert task inside the Foreach?

Here is XML file:

<File>

<FileName>Ref_Categories.txt</FileName>
<TableName>Ref_Categories</TableName>

Export Multiple Tables To Multiple Flat Files
I used the data export wizard to export a single table to a single flat file (multiple wasn't allowed).  I saved the package as a *.dtsx file which I'm attempting to edit to add the additional tables.

Creating additional sources is fairly easy copy of the first source and change to the table name.

I've tried copying the destination connection and changing to a new text file, but can't get past having to add each column manually to the new destination.

How can I duplicate the mapping that must be taking place in the wizard in the *.dtsx editing environment?

This seems like a simple / common task, but I've been unable to find a solution.

Thanks, Richard

Trouble With Pivot Task (multiple Problems) - Long
All,

I am having difficulty with an SSIS package that is simply to pivot a table, and perform calculations used in reporting.

Background:
A sample set of data is being tested to pivot for reporting purposes. The sample set of data being used is 2226 rows that will pivot to 6 rows having nearly 400 columns.

Problem 1:
This all seems quite simple except that when I try to pivot on one set of data it works perfectly, I try two at a time, again great. However, as I add three or more groups of data from a view (thus creating 3+ pivoted rows) SSIS throws an error of "-1071636293" and points the to the column containing the values to be pivoted. The error output dumps ALL source data rows with the same error code and message, even on data groups that were successfully pivoted and written to the destination DB all with correct mappings (including the noted with the error code)

Running the package on each group of data one set at a time, creating one pivot output row, always works for all data sets without throwing any errors. How is it possible that SSIS would run perfectly on each data set creating one row without any problems/errors/warnings, but when when run on all data at the same time it would fail?

Problem 2:
When running on multiple sets of data creating many pivoted output rows, the error output viewer and log file contain duplicated data rows from the original query. For example if I received the row the pivot id 1001 ONCE in the query from the DB as it is written out to the error file and viewer I see this ID TWICE for each data group. So if each data set were to contain 100 codes to match and I ran this on three data sets, creating an original 300 rows from the db query, the error file and viewer will have 303 rows. This occurs for only different ID's in depending on the data set, but one ID in particular is duplicated for ALL. How could a row be duplicated in the error output in one case but not another when the source data does not contain ANY duplicates?

Problem 3:
When running the package for three sets of data SSIS will note an error and redirect the row to the file I specified with no problem. However, as I run it on 4 or more data sets that cause more errors I receive the message: "The buffer manager attempted to push an error row to an output that was not registered as an error output. There was a call to DirectErrorRow on an output that does not have the IsErrorOut property set to TRUE." Why would the error logging work for one failure but have problems with more?

I am monitoring the package execution by:
1) logging all available output from SSIS to a file.
2) redirecting all errors from the pivot to a file which works only on the small data sets where I am expecting 1-2 rows to be the pivot result.
3) Placing data viewers on all directional arrows from original db query and pivot

Finally, even with all the errors or warnings all data is pivoted as desired and inserted into the destination database as if nothing was wrong, sometimes. Same package, same data, same errors, but delaying the package with breakpoints causes SSIS to either be successful or fail. I'll question that one later as I gather more information.

Any help on one or more of these questions would be a great help...

Thanks.

Multiple Flat Files To Multiple Tables
Hi,

I have searched but not found quite the best way to look at this so far..

I have an application that outputs data to several text files (up to 30). These have commonality by an object name, but then contain completely different column data.

In DTS I had each of the source text file connections going to one OLE DB connection and then individual transform data tasks pointing to the one OLE DB connection.

Looking at SSIS, it would appear that I would need to have one source and one destination for each of these and therefore 30 parallel data flows?

Just wondering if there is a neater way of doing this??

It is a regular data import that happens a few times a day - the text files are named the same as the SQL tables - ie app_userdata.txt goes to app_userdata  table.

Hope that explains ok and thanks in advance.

Conditional Split On Field In Csv File
I know this should be simple but I can't figure it out.  I am reading in a csv file to a conditional split task, all I want to do is split the file based on a field.  Some values in field will have a suffix say ABCD while others wont.  So my conditional split says Right(FieldA,4)=="ABCD" which then splits file in two directions or at least it's meant to.  Problem is that it does not work.  I think it has something to do with the field type in the csv file although I have tried using a Data Conversion task but to no avail all the field values with ABCD suffix are ignored by my conditional split and head off the same way as other values.  Funny thing is is that if I manually add a value to the file with a suffix of ABCD and run task again then the conditional split works on the manually added row and all rows with suffix of ABCD.  It's like it does not recognise previous values as string until one is added manually.

Thanks

DTS - Multiple Files To Multiple Tables
I am trying to write (my first, unfortunatly) DTS, and am having some problems.

I need to be able to import multiple flatfiles (all in the same format, just with different schema), each one going into a different table. I have written an application to call my DTS, sending it variables for the tablename and the filename. This works fine when I test it on a single flatfile.

My problem is, the Tranformation object does not reset after each DTS call, so I get "Column does not exist" errors after the first successful import. I can go into the DTS Manager and reset the Transformation options, but that would defeat the purpose of automation. Is there anyway to reset, or another technique, the Transformation object so that it will continuosly work on files that use different schema?

I am very new at DTS, so please consider me "ignorant" when replying.

Thanks in advance.

Delete Blank Row In Flat File Destination From Conditional Split

I create an SSIS package to filter data from Flat file source.
On flat file source, it is Ragged right format and header row delimeter in {CR}{LF}
the coulums are devided manulaay using markers.
I use only 2 columns divided and send the source into conditional split task and the conditions are given to filter data,
when the output from conditional split is placed on flat file destination, i notice blank rows on the output. I want to delete the blank rows so the result data can be displayed continuously in rows.
anybody has any idea for this? I know the script task will work but hope to avoid to use script task.

 In my Excel file I have one column "Summary" which contains large amounts of data. In ExcelSource I changed the Output Column: Summary datatype to Unicode[DT_Ntext], but I am not able to chnage the External column datatype from [DT_WSTR] to [DT_NTEXT].
 Initilly it is string so changed to unicode. Still I am getting this error:
"Failed to retrieve long data for column " Summary".
I tried the BlobTempStoragePath to other directory? Still not working.
How to solve this error?
Thanks in advance

Bulk Insert Fails. Column Is Too Long In The Data File
Hi,

for testing purposes I'm inserting a flat file into a sql-server table using BULK INSERT unsig the following code:

BULK INSERT rsk_staging
FROM 'c: empulk
sk.txt'
  WITH (
    FIELDTERMINATOR = '',
    ROWTERMINATOR = '
',
    CODEPAGE = 'RAW',
    DATAFILETYPE  = 'char',
    BATCHSIZE = 100000,
    ROWS_PER_BATCH = 1925604,
    TABLOCK
  )

I have two versions of "rsk.txt" one with 1.9mill rows and one with the first 2000 rows only. The files have one column only with 115 characters that I'll split in to several columns later using SUBSTRING. The one with 2000 rows fires in to the database with no problems whatsoever using this exact code, the other one throws the following error:

Server: Msg 4866, Level 17, State 66, Line 1
Bulk Insert fails. Column is too long in the data file for row 1, column 1. Make sure the field terminator and row terminator are specified correctly.

How can I resolve this problem?

EDIT: I tried several different row- and fieldterminators but this exact one works for the small data-file so I assume it should also work for the large one...the large one is however copyed directly using binary ftp from a unix-filesystem and the small one is manually copied into a new txt-file using UltraEdit.

For Each File Enumrator Is Not Exceute Remaining Files If One File Fails

Hi All,

I my requirement I need to read all the files from folder (one by one) and insert data from those files into the database table . I am facing one issue here . If suppose while executing if any of the file fails its not executing the other files. Package stops execution.

I cannot use Redirect rows option beacuse as per requirment if file has some Data problem , I am suppose to ignore the file instead of Data Rows.

Is there is any property in for each file task .....kindly suggest

How Do You Run Multiple .sql Files?
I have multiple .sql files, exe each one manually is a pain, so how do you run multiple .sql files all at once? Beside creating a batch file, are there t-sql commands that could execute .sql files?

Thanks!

Multiple Files -- DTS
I have a rather large sale transaction DB. Basic header, and detail tables. I am providing a third party company with daily sales information, and I need to give them back data from about 8 or 9 months ago. I currently have a DTS package that gets sales for the current day, but since I have to go back, I have to manually edit the query in the DTS package, and change the date range...UNLESS ...

Blah, blah, blah. The problem is that they can only take the data in Daily files. So, there would be ONE file for each day. I really don't need to be manually running these jobs, so I'm wondering if someone could point me to a way of writing a package (maybe ActiveX, not sure) that would run through a loop, basically, of dates, and create a seperate file for each day. Versus having to edit a generic DTS package, and changing the date range 350 times...

Multiple Log Files
Using an expression to set the log filename to include the date and time results in 3 log files being created.

Ummm. Why? I only ran the package once. Is SSIS not sharing my log file connection among the different components?

On first thought my workaround would involve using a script task to "set" the log file name to a variable and use an expression to set the log connection to the variable. But the problem with that is that logging starts BEFORE the script task is run...

Multiple Files
I have a job with a single step that executes a stored procedure that performs the following steps:

1. Checks for the existance of a file A in a folder A

2. If it exists,

     a. executes the cmdshell to run a DTS package to drop a table, recreate it and load the data in the file A to table X

     b. runs other stored procedures that use the data in table X to create other tables Y and Z

     c. executes the cndshell to remove and rename the file A from Folder A into Folder B

What I'd like to do is use this same stored procedure if possible, but create a job or another store procedure that would loop thru and process multiple files in Folder A instead of just one.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Multiple Log Files SMO
I need to restore a database that has a bak file and many log files. Is there a way I can do this with one recovery step?

Or do I need to use a different restore object for each file?
