Install Of 2005 Management Tools Fails
I have VS2008 installed. Now, I need to install the SQL server Management Tools, because of tasks I have on SQL server instances which are installed on other servers. I guess a lot of developers are in such a situation. You develop on your own machine, but deploy the final database on a production machine. And you happen to be the manager of those databases too (well, I am) Now, it seems impossible to install the neccesary tools as I get messages; The following components that you chose to install are already installed on the machine. To view a report of available options and alternatives click on details (Workstation components, Books Online and development tools 9.2.3042.00) Then on the Details, it says the following, Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools Express Edition Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online. Build version check: Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove. Now, I have no clue of what can be safely removed to allow the installation of the Management Tools. I am afraid that I will end up with a non-working SQL server Express installation which is required for VS2008 What should I do to get these Managment Tools installed on my develop machine?

SQL Server Management Express Studio Management Tools
I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Best MSSQL Management Tools
Hi everyone. I manage 100+ databases spread across the country. When it comes to perform an update or offsite backup, it is a nightmare. I have to repeat the same code and the same process for 100+ times. Is there any tools other than MS Enterprise manager we can use to perform this type of maintenance works in a batch manner? For example, we place a update sql file within the program, and the program does the rest (of course, we predefine the login credential for each databases) Cheers~ gmefmax:angel:

I have installed on an other pc the client tools, but i cannot connect to that instance, and i cannot attach the user databases (i get the 5123 error) Can anyone help me how i can install management services without messing up the sharepoint instance?

Change Management Tools
Hi I'm looking into various technologies that can make our lives easier. I have a number of processes to define, including: Auto rollback scripting Deployment to different environments (dev, test, production)Generation of deployment scripts from source control Tracking deployments (generation of reports detailing exactly what occurred in a deployment) Rather than try to custom the processes, I've decided to use a technology that already does the above and more. Can anyone recommend any tools? I've looked briefly at SQL Farm Combine which looks good. Anyone using this? Hearty head pats

SQL Server Management Tools Not Installed
>> I was able to solve this. Read the bottom of the post. I just installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition and none of the management tools seem to be there. At least they do not show up in Start>>All Programs>>Microsoft SQL Server 2005. All that shows up is the Configuration Tools menu item. I have been searching through the forum and I have found dozens of other threads about this, but none that seem to actually answer the question or give a solution. Some say to delete everything and start over, others say to review Visual Studio 2005 (which takes something like 4 hours to install, and then you still have to install all of the 3rd party tools, so I don't want to do that unless I just have to), and a few others say to uninstall SQL Server Express and then reinstall SQL Server. However, I believe that I selected to install them both at the same time. Anyway, I just looking for some ideas here to get all of this installed. There seems to be some problem here that a lot of people are having to deal with. Are the Managment Tools disabled by default? It seems that in 2005 a lot of the services are turned off by default so I'm wondering if I have to do something to turn on the Management Tools. Best regards, Greg Rothlander I just uninstalled and reinstalled per some threads on the forum and it all showed up. Apperently if anyone runs into this, just uninstall everything that has to do with Microsoft SQL Server and reinstall.

Installing SQL Server Management Tools
I have been trying for 2 days now to get the SQL Server management tools installed on client machines. I'm starting to think it is not possible to do that the way we used to be able to with previous versions of SQL Server. I have installed 3rd party open source software on my own machine so that I can query the database without logging onto the server directly and would like for my co-workers to be able to do the same. As I mentioned we tried the SQL Server Management studio and all we get is a message saying to uninstall all the beta and Visual Studio *** on our machines. We stripped one machine all the way down to the OS and still kept getting that message so I'm guessing it is some new Windows Vista issue that makes SQL Server 2005 client tools completely incompatible with XP. However, we are not going to bow to Microsoft's evil ways and upgrade to their new OS just to use the SQL Server Studio. If need be I will write my own software to workaround this problem. In the meantime, can anyone recommend some good 3rd party tools that will allow us to query the SQL Server 2005 database on a server and preferably one that does not require all other software be removed first?

SQL Server Tools Refusing To Install
Hi all, Having massive problem getting the SQL Server 2005 Management Tools to install on a XP Professional (SP2) computer. So I have no SSMS, Profiler, etc. Neither the files are there, nor the icons. The error in the dialog box is coming back with: "A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is already installed. To upgrade the existing component, refer to the remplate.ini and set the UPGRADE property to the name of the component." The computer would have had SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 Express Edition installed at some stage but both were uninstalled before my attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. Build 9.00.1399.06. After this dialog box the setup fails that component (Management Tools) then crashes, generating a CAB file with all the logs in the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOG directory. The log files seem to indicate an incompatibility between version of files installed and what wants to be installed. Problem of course is that it's probably read this from the registry somewhere, the files physically do not exist. So I have tried the following with no luck: start /wait setup.exe /qb REINSTALL=SQL_Tools90 start /wait setup.exe /qb REINSTALL=SQL_Tools90 REINSTALLMODE=OMUS start /wait setup.exe /qb UPGRADE=SQL_Tools90 start /wait setup.exe /qb UPGRADE=SQL_Tools90 REINSTALLMODE=OMUS So then I had a look in the registry. Found Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall{A30965BD-2D4D-45CE-8F04-6A6889818CF1} Is was to deleting the entire subtree, so thought that if I rename the GUID value and even the name that might solve the problem and force an install. Still no joy. So any ideas on how to force an installation of the Management Tools. I then plan to install SQL Server 2005 SP2. I do not think that installing SQL Server 2005 SP2 will reinstall the files, but I could be wrong. So any suggestions on what to wipe from the registry, whether there is a later set of the tools that I can install separately, or how I can force a reinstallation of the tools. Or should I install SQL Server 2005 SP2 and hope it fixes it up? Perhaps I should uninstall the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools using MsiExec.exe /I{A30965BD-2D4D-45CE-8F04-6A6889818CF1} from the registry and then try to install them again? TIA, Victor

Installing SQL Server 2005 Management Tools - Setup Crashing Repeatedly
I'm having many many issues installing sql server management tools. i had visual studio 2005 installed first, but uninstalled and sql related things before trying to install sql server management tools again - i also deleted the program files/microsoft sql server/ folder so there are no references. I select just management tools + client connectivity to install and click next -> the setup support files/native client/owc11 etc all install fine but workstation components etc fail and the setup log appears to either be empty and not available and MSXML6 fails... after clicking finish the installer appears to crash - : "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close. SQL Server Express 2008 - Missing Client Tools / Management Studio / Profiler
I downloaded and performed a full install of SQL Server Express 2008 Nov CTP. It was installed on a fresh installation of Windows Vista Enterprise x64. During setup, I checked the 'Client Tools' box which has the description: "Includes management and development tools: SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Profiler, and Database Engine Tuning Advisor" The installation ran fine with no errors. SQL Compact Server Tools Install Problem
Hi, I have SQL Mobile 2005 server tools installed on my server and also my development PC. I started working with SQL Compact on a mobile application I'm developing so I downloaded the SQL Compact Server Tools and installed on my laptop and it added folders "syncSQL" to my "Program FilesSQL Mobile" folder. I used the configure web sync wizard to create a sync folder for SQL Compact and it added the file sqlcesa30.dll version 3.0.5300.0 to the new folder. The previous sync folders set up using SQL Mobile have version 3.0.5214.0 of the same file. I then went to install the Compact Server Tools on my server (downloaded the file). When it was installing it asked if I wanted to repair or remove SQL Mobile Server Tools (it didn't do this on the laptop install). I selected "repair" and it apparently successfully installed. I checked the Program FilesSQL Mobile folder and there was no "syncSQL" folder. I created a new web sync folder and the version of sqlcesa30dll added is 3.0.5223.0. My laptop is running XP Professional and the server is Server 2003. Both are running SQL Server 2005 SP2. It looks like it hasn't installed the server tools correctly on the server, what am I doing wrong? I'm also getting a lot of sync errors and wonder if it has something to do with Compact/Mobile incompatibility. Some extra information: when I install the SQL Compact Server Tools on my XP Pro computer, the installer window title says "Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition - English". When I run the same install file on Windows Server 2003 the window title is "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile SP1 [ENU] Server Tools". It seems to install different versions of the software depending on the operating system. Could someone from Microsoft please confirm that this is the case, and advise how I can get the correct SQL Compact Server Tools for my server. Regards, Greg

SQL 2005 Fails To Install Workstation Components And Tools
Hello. When I install SQL Server 2005, it all goes well except that it fails to install these two: - SQLXML 4 - workstation components and tools When I try to install these two from the CD in the Setup folder of the CD 2 with the files sqlxml4.msi and sqlRun_Tools.msi (if I remember these names correctly), it gives me an error: 'Ce package d'installation n'est pas pris en charge par ce type de processeur' Sorry. My SQL CDs are in french, but it roughly translates to the message: This installation package is not taken by this processor. I thought that my hardware configuration does not meet the requirements. But I have a Pentium 4, 2Gig RAM, over 100Gig free HD space. Also I tried to install on other computers to no avail. This is a fresh install, that is, there is no previous SQL Server 2000 in it, no VS.NET 2005 or before. Nothing. I have just a fresh, new computer. Can anyone help, please? Jean

Cannot Install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition - Configuration Tools Only
I have tried several times to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (most recently from MSDN Disk 3097.1) I have tried to complete an uninstall before each attempt. I do get the warning about Minimum Hardware Requirement, but can find nothing in the detail requirements to exclude my PCs configuration. I have installed: IIS and .NET Framework 2.0 I have also used ..aspnet_regiis -r to register ASP.NET I am, successfully, running Visual Studio 2005. Why does the installation process stop there and what can I do next?

Using SQL Server Management Studio Tools To Manage Dbs On SQL Server Express Edition
Hopefully a simple question: Is it possible to use Maintenance Plans created on SQL Server Management Studio (installed as part of an instance of SQL Server 2005 Standard Ed.) to back up databases running on an instance of SQL Server Express Edition with Advanced Services? I don't need directions, just whether or not it is permitted. I've been able to create the plans including establishing connections to from SSMS to the the SQL Express instance, but they keep erroring out. I just need to know if this is actually permitted since Maintenance Plans are not available on Management Studio Express Edition. Thank you in advance for your help.

&&"The Feature(s) Specified Are Not Valid For This Edition Of SQL Server&&" Error When Installing Management Tools On Win 2003 X64
I've successfully installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on an Enterprise edition of Windows Server 2003 x64. I'm now (and also tried & failed during the install of the database engine) attempting to install the "Management Tools" component on the same server. However, in all my attempts to do so, I receive the following error: --- The feature(s) specified are not valid for this edition of SQL Server --- The message box does not list the features that are not valid but since the only item I've selected to install is the "Management Tools" option under "Client Components" it obviously points to something with that. Am I missing something or are the Management Tools not supported in my config - most notably SQL Server 2005 Standard edition running on Windows Server 2003 x64? Thanks. - Lance Colorado State University

SQL Management Studio Install Problems
Hello, I received the Visual Studio 2005 Standard and SQL Server 2005 Standard from the Microsoft Launch event in Anahiem. I was able to install SQL Express via VS 2005 without any problems. I am able to install SQL 2005 Standard without any problems the only problem I have is that I cannot install the Management Studio. I uninstalled SQL Server 2005 Standard and installed the SQL Server 2005 Express managment studio and it installed without any problems. Is there any reason why I can install SSMSE but not SSMS? Let me know what information you need besides what I have provided below. Error message I recieve when trying to install Management Studio.EventType: sql90setup P1: installtoolsaction.11 P2: 0x643 P3: sqls_installpackageaction_perform P4: 0x643 P5: packageengine_installpackageaction.cpp@167 P6: setup.exe@2005.90.1399.0 P7: none

64 Bit Server Management Express Will Not Install.....
Hi there, I am having real problems trying to install the 64 bit version of the management studio express on to my vista 64 bit operating system. I have managed to load SQL express but I cannot for the life of me get this package to install. I went to the standard site where you get Visual basic etc and downloaded the 64 bit version as per the double astrix link at the bottom and got a chinese version!! I then went to: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C243A5AE-4BD1-4E3D-94B8-5A0F62BF7796&displaylang=en and downloaded the version there. I got this error: "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 29506" Is there anyone out there that can point me to a package for the 64 bit version of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express that's in English and actually installs?? Help With Sql Management Studio Vista Install
I just recently purchased a sony with Vista business preloaded. It seems like it came with MS 2005 Sql Server but I'm not sure what edition. I went to the start menu to locate the Management Studio however the only option was the Configuration file. I went to MS site and downloaded the 2005 Sql Server Express Edition with Advance Service SP2 and it installed correctly. I believe this edition comes with Management Studio. However when I went to my Start Menu, the Management Studio file is still not there. How do I fix this problem? I am new to the MS Sql so a detail explanation will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

SQL Server 8 And SQL Server 2005 Management Tools In Consistencies
I have been investigating this issue and here is what I have found, when using SQL Server 8 Query Analyzer the results show that for example xp_regread has Execute permissions granted to €˜public€™ role. When checking the Same using the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio the results show that there are no Execute permissions granted to €˜Public€™ Role. So the following Query doesn't return any results on Management Studio SQL Server 2005: SELECT sysusers.name , Status = CASE protecttype WHEN 204 THEN 'GRANT_W_GRANT' WHEN 205 THEN 'GRANT' WHEN 206 THEN 'REVOKE' ELSE 'Unknown' END , Permission = CASE action WHEN 193 THEN 'SELECT' WHEN 195 THEN 'INSERT' WHEN 196 THEN 'DELETE' WHEN 197 THEN 'UPDATE' WHEN 26 THEN 'REFERENCE' WHEN 224 THEN 'EXECUTE' ELSE 'Unknown' END , sysobjects.name FROM sysprotects, sysobjects, sysusers WHERE sysobjects.id = sysprotects.id AND sysprotects.action IN (193, 195, 196, 197, 224, 26) AND sysprotects.uid = sysusers.uid AND sysusers.name = 'public' AND (sysobjects.name like '%xp_%' OR sysobjects.name like '%sp_OA%') Where as running the Same Query in SQL Server 8.0 Query Analyzer will return results, saying there are a few extended procs available to Public for Execute. Do you know whats going on here? Thanks!
