Error While Accessing Database From Server Using Management Studio In The Client Machine
hi all,
i have MS SQL Server 2005 in my server machine
and i have MS SQL Server 2005 client setup in another 3 machines
when i access database from server using management studio in the client machine and while open table, i get the below error
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (SQL Editors)"
What is the problem?
How can i solve this?

Hi We have upgraded sql server 2000 to sqlserver 2005 on the development server. To access the database server, we installed the sql server management studio on the client PC with Admin Account. The .Net framework and sqlserver management studio were installed and I am able to access the database from the client PC using Admin Login. Then we logged off and tried to login as user account on the client PC. From the user account login we are unable to open the sql server management studio. Accessing Report Builder From Client Machine??
Accessing report builder from client machine in which there is no sql server with the url http://<server name>>/reports. The report builder tab is not getting displayed. when accessing from http://<server name>/reportserver/reportbuilder/reportbuilder.application it gets connected to the report model but when we are running the report it say the user doesnt have sufficient permissions or database can not be processed. The permission is given to the user on the data source. For admin permission the report is running fine. Do anybody know the procedure to run adhoc reports from client machine?? Urgent!!

How Can I Install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition's Management Studio On A Desktop Machine?
I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!

I downloaded and performed a full install of SQL Server Express 2008 Nov CTP. It was installed on a fresh installation of Windows Vista Enterprise x64. Visual Studio Database File And SQL Server Management Studio Express Question
I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason

Management Studio On Client
I have an instance of SQL Server 2005 running on a server. I know that Management Studio is available to me on the server through Programs. What do I need on my client computer used for development to access the instance on the server? Is it as simple as a shortcut to the server Management Studio exe? Do I access it through Internet Explorer? Or what do I have to install on the client to be able to manager the server DB's? Apparently this must be very easy because I've looked all over and can't find the answer. Thank you in advance.

SSIS Package Not Running From Client Management Studio
I migrated a few stored procedures from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. When the packages are run from the box where the SSIS and SQL Server (Windows server) is installed it is running fine without any issues. When run from my local machine (client) where I have installed the SQL Server Client, the same package would not execute and gives me some weird error messages. I am a local admin on the box. Is this a issue with SSIS? Do we have to log onto the box (server) and then execute the packages? Any help is appreciated. Thanks !

Attaching Database In SQL Server Management Studio
I recently installed the express edition of sql server express, I installed with all the default options and choose windows authorisation for login. I have tried to attach a database in studio mangement and it threw an exception about security and connection error, I presume I have no priviledges, but I have tried to grant myself rights and basically tried everything but I cant seem to get anywhere with it, would apprechiate some advise on this subject, and what steps I should take to setup and use and have complete rights to the database thanks in advance Sean

Error Installing SQL Server Management Studio Express
Yesterday I successfully installed Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition which included SQL Server 2005 Express. Today I noticed I needed to download the Management Studio seperate download. I downloaded SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi and executed it and get the following error: Error reading from file C:...SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.. Solved my own problem. Once I moved the msi to C: the installation worked. Apparently the path it was in was too long causing it to be unreadable. c:xxxxxxxxSQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msiSQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi.

tried to attach a database in sse-ms, and for some reason the database name is changing to G:someFoldersomeFolderdb.mdf, even tho i dont have a drive g:, during "attach as" screens inside sse-ms, , ie attach>add> then select the database the mdf loction is what it is suppose to be ie C:inetpubwwwrootapp_datachp11wroxunited.mdf but the database name in the same screen shot is G:someOtherFolderAndPathwroxunited.mdf and the attach as is also the G:someOtherFolderAndPathwroxunited.mdf. pretty confused, could use a clue, thanks

How Do I Export My Database From SQL Server Management Studio Express
HiI am using SQL Server Management Studio Express to make my databases but I noticed if I make my database in Visual studios and go new Item and make a new database I see it in app_data folder and server express tab and if I make it in SQL Server Management Studio Express I only see it in the server explorer. So if I have to move my files to another computer how do I move my database easly with SQL Server Management Studio Express? Since when you make it with the visual studio the file gets stored with all the other files of your project so if you move it all to another computer you prob won't run into a problem. So how do I make it that so I can do everything in SQL Server Management Studio Express(since I like working in it) then export it into a file that I can then go into my app_data folder and add it is an exist item? How do I set up a database snapshot and backup the database for Windows Server Update Services 3.0, that uses the "desktop" version of SQL server on the same server running Widows Server 2003? Can't Attach Database Using SQL Server Management Studio Express
I am having a problem Attaching, well actually not being able to see a database when attempting to attach it. I suspect this is more of a security issue rather than a problem with Management Studio, but I can't figure out what is happening. If I copy a database to Documents and SettingsAll Users... and attempt to attach I can see the file in the selection tree. This also is the case if I copy it to Documents and SettingsDefault User... But if I copy it to Documents and SettingsADynarski... which is the account I normally log into, when I expand the folder in the selection tree, nothing is visible. And the same thing occurs if I copy the file to Documents and SettingsGuest... I've looked at the security settings and everything appears to be normal. Hi all, Long time ago, I downloaded the Northwind and pubs databases from the Microsoft website (I do not remember the details of it) and installed these two databases together into the SQL Server Management Studio Express of my PC (Microsoft Windows XP Pro). I tried to learn an example of using "User Instance" (source code was from a book) on the Northwind database located in my SQL Server Management Studio Express. I just find out that my Northwind database has the title only and no tables at all. If I click on the "+" in front of the "Northwind", I got the following error message: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express Failed to retrieve data for this request.(Microsoft SqlServer.Express.SmoEnum) Additional information: One or more files do not match the primary file of the database. If you are attempting to attach a database, retry the operation with the correct files. If this is an existing database, the file may be corrupted and should be restored from backup. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5173).. Please help and tell me how I can repair this Northwind database in my SQL Server Management Studio Express. Scott Chang P. S. I deleted the name 'Northwind' in my SQL Server Management Studio Express, executed the "SQL2005DBScriptsInstnwind" program and I got the following error message: Msg 1802, Level 16, State 4, Line 1 CREATE DATABASE failed. Uploading Database To Sever With Sql Server Management Studio Express
Hello, I would like some help in uploading a database from my harddrive to a server using sql server management studio express. If I try to attach it to the server, this program only looks at the files on this server and not on my harddrive. So how can I copy a sql database to my folder on the server. Attaching A Stored Procedure To A Database In MS SQL Server Management Studio
Hello all! Quick question... I've created my DB in MSSQLSMS, then attempted to created a stored procedure for it. The code itself is fine, I just need to know how to actually attach it so that it appears in the "Stored Procedures" section of my Database. I have Right Clicked on Stored Procedures > New Stored Procedure... > Edited as required > Save When I attempt to save it, it prompts me for a file. That's fine, did that - but I can't see ANY way to actually attach this to the DB. Any help is appreciated! Daniel Davies

Problem Copying Database With Microsoft SQl Server Management Studio
I am trying to copy a database from the server on my web host(crystaltech) to my new local install of MS SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (trial version). I go to Tasks>Copy Database which opens the wizard. When I get to the select database screen I get this error: Server user 'username' is not a valid user in database '123foo' (123foo is the first database of all those on the server) I need have it look only at my database which I have permissions for to copy it. How do I do this? I tried copying the tables the other way(import data) but it dropped all my identities and primary keys which is a pain to recreate. Is there a way to copy tables from one server to another without losing primary keys and identity fields? Thanks for any help!

Dear All, I am trying to connect to a remote sql server 2005. So I have install the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. When I try to connect I get the error below. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53). Can some one please help. I have even port no 1533 on my pc. Thanks.

Hello NG, After installing SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on Windows Vista RC1, I wanted to install also the Managent Studio but I always receive the following error message: "Bei der Installation dieses Pakets ist ein unerwarteter Fehler aufgetreten. How does one export/copy a database using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express? At this time, I have an existing database that I can access and run queries against. However, I cannot connect to it via Visual Wed Developer 2005 Express. At this time, I'm getting the following error message with the existing database: Login failed for user 'bigide2_gims2'. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio - Opening SQL-File From Explorer Does Not Connect Automaticly To Server/database
hello, I have a question about opening files in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. In the old Query Analyzer from SQL 2000 I can open SQL Files via drag & drop (from explorer to QA) or open it with a double click in the explorer. Then the Files opened, if I had actual a connection to a server / database (QA is stared with one file and has a connection to Server/Datebase), with this connection. Now in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio I'll be asked everytime for Server and have to get the database from the database list - it does not connect automaticly to server/database, that is actual connected (I have opened a file with the connection and a connected database in the object explorer). Someone do not have this problem - but we found no option to set it up. Any ideas? thanks & best regards, Christian Kiedels

hi all, i have SQL 2205 with SP1 installed on my machine. and i m not bale to connect to Report Server using SQL management studio as well as from web. i have installed reporting server and database on same machine. i tried using "http://localhost/reportserver" "http://localhost/reports" "http://localhost/reportmanager" but i am not bale to connect i am getting "Service Unavailable" page. and when i try to connect using SQL Management Studio with "servername/instance" as well as "http://localhost/reportserver" i am getting a error saying. =================================== Cannot connect to http://localhost/reportserver.The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. Built Database With SQL Server Management Studio Express, How Can I Quikly Add Test Data?
I've built my SQL Server Express database with SQL Serevr Management Studio Express, and now I want to enter some seed data to assist in building tha app around it. I cannot find an option to manage the data in SQL SMSX, like I used to with Enterprise Manager. I don't want to have to write an app just to get test data in. Seems like this should be a common need. Am I missing something obvious here? Can't find any reference to this in a search of the forums. Please help.

I have created a PPC application that uses ADS to synchronize my sqlce db with a desktop MS Access database. It works fine on my computers, but my client cant get it to work on his. Here is the situation. His "Computer Name" as it's stated in his 'My Computer' properties is "PAVSGP024FE.NWFSC.NOAA.GOV" However his Access.MDW File is located in the directory "C:Documents and SettingsJoe NobodyApplication DataMicrosoftAccessSystem.MDW". There is no directory called "C:Documents and SettingsPAVSGP024FE.NWFSC.NOAA.GOVApplication DataMicrosoftAccessSystem.MDW". SQL Server Management Studio Express On Vista Home Premium (Error On Attaching And Detaching .mdf)
I have SQL Express 2005 SP2 installed in my Vista Home Premium. I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express to manage .mdf. When I click "Add..." to attach .mdf database, I have this prompt error message : The server principal "My-PCMyName" is not able to access the database "model" under the current security context. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 916) I have elevated the rights, "Run as administrator", of my SQL Server Management Studio Express, but still having problem. I also encounter security error when detaching the existing .mdf : The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'sp_detach_db', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229) Please advice. Thanks.

Accessing SQL Server On Another Machine
Hello all. I am currently running a web server with Windows 2000 Server installed. It is a Pentium II 400 MHz, and also acts as the router on our network. I am worried that installing MSDE on this same server might drain the server resources, so I installed MSDE on one of the computers in our internal network. How do I set up my connection string to access the database on another machine in the same network? Currently I use: Server="AnotherComputer";TrustedConnection="True";Database="MyDatabase" When I use that, it tells me that the server can't be found. All computers behind the router have static IP addresses, but even when I type the IP address it still can't find the server. Any suggestions?

Hi all, I just realized recently that a database "XYZ" in the Object Explorer of my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) is put in the Database Explorer of my VB 2005 Express for processing a Stored Procedure in executing the SELECT statements (not by using Input and/or Output Parameters) during the ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 Express programming, then the content of the database "XYZ" is not in the SSMSE. How can I return the database "XYZ" from the DataBase Explorer of VB 2005 Express back to the Object Explorer of SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) safely? Please help and advise.
