Need To Write Value Of Session Variable To SQL Record
Each user who inserts a new SQL record from the FormView control needs to have their UserID in one of the fields of the record.  I have the user ID stored in the Session("UserID") variable.  I am having trouble finding the right way to get this done.  I have tried using a hidden text box but I can't seem to assign the value.  I have tried the Insert Parameters but that will not accept <%# Session("UserID") %> as a DefaultValue.  Any ideas would be helpful.  Thanks.

Store Count Result In A Local Variable
Hi All,
I need to store the row count from two different servers (one 6.5 and one 7.0)
to compare by doing this:(in T-SQL)

declare @kount1 int, @kount2 int
exec master..xp_cmdshell 'isql -Sserver65 -d dbA -T -Q "select count(*) from tableA",no_output
exec master..xp_cmdshell 'isql -Sserver70 -d dbA -T -Q "select count(*) from tableA",no_output

How can I save the rowcount in @kount1, @kount2 respectively for comparison?
Appreciate your feedback.

Store Varbinary Data Result Into SSIS Variable Through Execute SQL Task
I cannot find the data type for parameter mapping from Execute SQL Task Editor to make this works.

1. Execute SQL Task 1 - select max(columnA) from tableA.  ColumnA is varbinary(8); set result to variable which data type is Object.

2. Execute SQL Task 2 - update tableB set columnB = ?
What data type should I use to map the parameter?  I tried different data types, none working except GUI but it returned wrong result.

Does SSIS variable support varbinary data type? I know there's a bug issue with bigint data type and there's a work-around.  Is it same situation with varbinary?

Thanks,

Is It Possible To Write If/Then Else Within SQL Select Statement For Vb.net?
I'm running a select statement from within my VB.net code. However, if the software package name that I chose from a drop down list in my form is not available in the search (in the TableColumn called Software.Package_Name), I would like to be able to write the message "Record Not Found" to the Package_Name "ListBox" column.

Here's the select statement:
"SELECT n.Workstation_Name , s.install_status , s.install_date , s.name , s.version , s.build , s.Package_Name , n.city , n.state FROM software s , network n where ( s.mac=n.mac AND n.Workstation_Name='B001617CA709E' ) AND ( s.name='Adobe Reader' AND s.Install_status='1') ORDER BY n.Workstation_Name ASC"

My ListBox control is named lstQueryResults and uses a Structure that is one to one with each row of the lstQueryResults control.
i.e.

Public Class LIST_CTRL_DATA

Public WksName As String

Public InstallStatus As String

Public InstallDate As String

Public PackageName As String

Public AppName As String

Public Version As String

Public Build As String

Public City As String

Public State As String

Public Percent As UInteger

Finally, here's the While..End routine that plugs the data into the ListBox called lstQueryResults.

While sqlReader.Read()

currec += 1

Dim msg As THREAD_MESSAGE

msg.msgid = 101

Dim message As New LIST_CTRL_DATA

message.WksName = sqlReader("Workstation_Name").ToString

message.InstallStatus = sqlReader("Install_Status").ToString

message.InstallDate = sqlReader("Install_Date").ToString

message.AppName = sqlReader("Name").ToString

message.Version = sqlReader("Version").ToString

message.Build = sqlReader("Build").ToString

message.PackageName = sqlReader("Package_Name").ToString

message.City = sqlReader("City").ToString

message.State = sqlReader("State").ToString

message.Percent = (currec * 100) / maxrecs

msg.msgdata = message

m_ParentWindow.Invoke(m_NotifyMainWindow, msg)

End While

Any ideas on whether or not you can write an If..Then Else statement within the SQL Select Statement and if so how?
I'm still somewhat new to SQL. Any assistance would be great.

How To Use Variable To Receive The Result Of A Select Statment. ?
Good morning;

My Problem is :im my transaction i use insert code like the following :

" Insert into TAB1 (F1,F2,F3)
select a.F1,b.F2,b.F3 from TAB2 a,TAB3 b
where a.KY1= b.KY1 and b.ORDN in
(Select ORDN from OTAB where USER_ID = 'MIKE')"

In order to optimise my code ,
instead of using a subquery in my select
(I have different insert in my transaction with the same subquery).
I would like to DECLARE a varibale which will contain the select of the Subquery.
and then use it im my different insert. some thing like this.

" BEGIN TRANSACTION
DECLARE @OrdSelect int
Set @OrdSelect = (Select ORDN from OTAB where USER_ID = 'MIKE')
Insert into TAB1 (F1,F2,F3)
select a.F1,b.F2,b.F3 from TAB2 a,TAB3 b
where a.KY1= b.KY1 and b.ORDN in @OrdSelect
COMMIT Tran "

I know that the @OrdSelect will receive the last value of the select not an array of values. which will make my transaction incorrect.
I dont want to use Cursor to resolve this issue Too.

Thinks.

Aggregate Function For Select Statement Result?
Ok, for a bunch of cleanup that i am doing with one of my Portal Modules, i need to do some pretty wikid conversions from multi-view/stored procedure calls and put them in less spid calls.

currently, we have a web graph that is hitting the sql server some 60+ times with data queries, and lets just say, thats not good. so far i have every bit of data that i need in a pretty complex sql call, now there is only one thing left to do.

Problem:
i need to call an aggregate count on the results of another aggregate function (sum) with a group by.

*ex: select count(select sum(Sales) from ActSales Group by SalesDate) from ActSales

This is seriously hurting me, because from everything i have tried, i keep getting an error at the second select in that statement. is there anotherway without using views or stored procedures to do this? i want to imbed this into my mega sql statement so i am only hitting the server up with one spid.

Declare insertBookInfoString nvarchar(150)
select 'Declare @newBookID int'
Set insertBookInforString =

from [dbname].dbo.[gameBooks])
where @gameBookID=@myBookID
Print insertBookInforString
select 'SET @newRowID = Scope_Identity()'
print @newRowID
select 'Declare @newBookID int'
Set insertBookInforString =
(Select 'Insert into [dbname].dbo.[cookBooks] value (' + @cookBookID +',' + cookBookTitle +','+cookVolumn+')'
from [dbname].dbo.[cookBooks]
where @cookBookID=@myBookID)
Print insertBookInforString
first insertBookInfoString prints out fine.
But I kept this error on second part:

------------------------------
DECLARE Declare @newBookID int
(1 row(s) affected)
Insert into [dbname].dbo.[gameBooks] value (@gameBookID, gameBookTitle, ganeVolumn) (this is what I want)
-----------------------------------------

Can A Column Be Derived Using Substring But The Parameters Are A Result Of A Select Statement?
I have a table which has a field called Org.  This field can be segmented from one to five segments based on a user defined delimiter and user defined segment length.  Another table contains one row of data with the user defined delimiter and the start and length of each segment.  e.g.

Table 1

Org

aaa:aaa:aa

aaa:aaa:ab

aaa:aab:aa

Table 2

delim

Seg1Start

Seg1Len

Seg2Start

Seg2Len

Seg3Start

Seg3Len

:

1

3

5

3

9

2

My objective is to use SSIS and derive three columns from the one column in Table 1 based on the positions defined in Table 2.  Table 2 is a single row table.  I thought perhaps I could use the substring function and nest the select statement in place of the parameters in the derived column data flow.  I don't seem to be able to get this to work.

Any ideas?  Can this be done in SSIS?

I'd really appreciate any insight that anyone might have.

Bill

Use A Variable Along With The FROM Clause In SELECT Statement
I have a table 'table_list' which contains two columns, table_name and a record_count. This table stores a list of tables and their corresponding record counts.

What I am trying to do is, to be able to write a select statement, that can read each table name in the 'table_name' column, execute a select count(*) for the same, and update its record_count with the result of select count(*).

This is the code in my procedure..

DECLARE @tab_list CURSOR
set @tab_list = CURSOR FOR select * from table_list
OPEN @tab_list

DECLARE @tab_name varchar(256)
DECLARE @rec_cnt int
FETCH NEXT FROM @tab_list INTO @tab_name, @rec_cnt

select count(*) from @tab_name

This select is looping around along with FETCH till all the table names are exhausted and their counts are updated from the cursor back into the table.

Problem is that, I am not able to use select count(*) from @tab_name, and its not accepting a variable there.

Please help me to construct the select statement that is similiar to

x=<table name>
select * from x
where x is a variable and the table name gets substituted.

what is the syntax for it ?

Put Select Statement In SSIS Variable
Is it possible to add a variable in SSIS like

name of variable: myVar
Scope: Data Flow Task
Data Type: String
Value:SELECT hello FROM blah WHERE  (azerty = @[User::pda]) AND (qwerty = @[User::phone])

@[User::pda] and @[User::phone] are also variables in SSIS just like the myVar I made

I know I'm doing something wrong with the data type because it's stores the whole select statement as a string

Could someone help me what is wrong with this.

cobjDT = Session("cart")
For each cobjDR in cobjDT.rows
 Dim cmdInsert2 as New SQLCommand("order_details", loConn)
             cmdInsert2.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

cmdInsert2.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Orders", SqlDbType.int, 4,

cmdInsert2.Parameters("@Orders").Value = Request("OrderIDtext")

cmdInsert2.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@PID", SqlDbType.int, 4,
"PID"))

cmdInsert2.Parameters("@PID").Value = Request(cobjDR("PID"))

cmdInsert2.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@PakID", SqlDbType.int, 4,

cmdInsert2.Parameters("@Mangd").Value = Request(cobjDR("Quantity"))

Return Variable Name As Part Of Select Statement.
hey all,

I have the following query:

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_SelectMostRecentArticle]

AS
BEGIN

DECLARE @article_id INT
SELECT @article_id = (
SELECT TOP 1 article_id
FROM article
ORDER BY article_id DESC
)

DECLARE @comment_count INT
SELECT @comment_count = (
SELECT COUNT(comment_id)
FROM comment
JOIN article ON article_id = comment_article_id
GROUP BY article_id
HAVING article_id = @article_id
)

SELECT TOP 1 article_id, article_author_id,
article_title, article_body, article_post_date,
article_edit_date, article_status, article_author_id
article_author_ip, author_display_name,
category_id, category_name--, comment_count AS @comment_count

FROM article

JOIN author ON author_id = article_author_id
JOIN category ON category_id = article_category_id

GROUP BY article_id, article_title, article_body, article_post_date,
article_edit_date, article_status, article_author_ip,article_author_id,
author_display_name, category_id, category_name

HAVING article_id = @article_id

END
GO

as you can see, im trying to return a comment_count value, but the only way I can do this is by defining the variable.

I have had to do it this way, because I cannot say COUNT(comment.comment_id) AS comment_count or it returns an error that it cant reference the comment.comment_id.

But when change it to FROM article, comment; I get errors about the article_author_id and article_comment_id.

And i cant add a join, because it would return the amount of rows of the comment...

unless someone could help with what i Just decribed (as i would prefer to do it this way), how would i return the variable value as part of the select statement?

Cheers

Unable To Create Variable Select Statement In For Each Loop
What I'm trying to do is this;

I have a table with Year , Account and Amount as fields.  I want to

SELECT Year, Account, sum(Amount) AS Amt

FROM GLTable

WHERE Year <= varYear

varYear being a variable which is each year from a query

SELECT Distinct Year  FROM GLTable

My thought was that I would need to pass a variable into a select statement which then would be used as the source in my Data Flow Task.

What I have done is to defined two variables as follows

Name: varYear (this will hold the year)

Scope: Package

Data type: String

Name:vSQL (This will hold a SQL statement using the varYear)

Scope: Package

Data type: String

Value: "SELECT Year, Account, sum(Amount) AS Amount FROM GLTable WHERE Year <=" + @[User::varYear]

I've created a SQL Task as follows

Result set: Full Result Set

Connection Type: OLE DB

SQL Statement: SELECT DISTINCT Year FROM GLTable

 Result Name: 0

Variable Name: User::varYear

Next I created a For Each Loop container with the following parameters

Enumerator: Foreach ADO Enumerator

ADO Object source Variable: User::varYear

Enumeration Mode: Rows in First Table

I then created a Data Flow Task in the Foreach Loop Container and as the source used OLE DB Source as follows

Data Access Mode: SQL Command from Variable

Variable Name: User::varYear

However this returns a couple of errors "Statement(s) could not be prepared."

and "Incorrect syntax near '='.".

I'm not sure what is wrong or if this is the right way to accomplish what I am trying to do.  I got this from another thread "Passing Variables" started 15 Nov 2005.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Regards,

Bill

Store Session State In Sql 2000?
I'm currently storing session state in a sql 2000 server for my vs.net 2002 projects. I'm currently developing a new project using vs.net 2005 and was wondering if I could store the session state in the same sql server. Does anyone know if this is possible? If so can someone point me in to an article or code example. All of the examples I have come across are for sqlExpress.
Thanks in advanceJason

Combing In A Cursor, A Select Statement With The WHERE Clause Stored In A Variable
Hi
I am ramesh here from go-events.com
I am using sql mail to send out emails to my mailing list

I have difficulty combining a select statement with a where clause stored in a variable inside a cursor

The users select the mail content and frequency of delivery and i deliver the mail

I use lots of queries and a stored procedure to retrieve thier preferences. In the end i use a cursor to send out mails to each of them.

Because my query is dynamic, the where clause of my select statement is stored in a variable. I have the following code
that does not work

For example

DECLARE overdue3 CURSOR
LOCAL FORWARD_ONLY
FOR SELECT DISTINCT Events.E_Name, Events.E_SDate, Events.E_City, Events.E_ID FROM Events, IndustryEvents + @sqlquery2
OPEN overdue3

I get an error message at the '+' sign
which says, cannot use empty object or column names, use a single
space if necessary

How do I combine the select statement with the where clause?

Help me...I need help urgently

Set Variable Based On Result Of Procedure OR Update Columns Fromsproc Result
I need to send the result of a procedure to an update statement.Basically updating the column of one table with the result of aquery in a stored procedure. It only returns one value, if it didnt Icould see why it would not work, but it only returns a count.Lets say I have a sproc like so:create proc sp_countclients@datecreated datetimeasset nocount onselect count(clientid) as countfrom clientstablewhere datecreated > @datecreatedThen, I want to update another table with that value:Declare @dc datetimeset @dc = '2003-09-30'update anothertableset ClientCount = (exec sp_countclients @dc) -- this line errorswhere id_ = @@identityOR, I could try this, but still gives me error:declare @c intset @c = exec sp_countclients @dcWhat should I do?Thanks in advance!Greg

Random Selection From Table Variable In Subquery As A Column In Select Statement
Consider the below code: I am trying to find a way so that my select statement (which will actually be used to insert records) can randomly place values in the Source and Type columns that it selects from a list which in this case is records in a table variable. I dont really want to perform the insert inside a loop since the production version will work with millions of records. Anyone have any suggestions of how to change the subqueries that constitute these columns so that they are randomized?

Declare @Users table (Name nvarchar(200) NOT NULL)
Declare @NumericBase table (Number int not null)

Set @Counter = 0

while @Counter < @RandomRecordCount

  set @Counter = @Counter + 1
end
