Login Failed For User 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON' (but User.identity.name Is Correct)
I need help. The security principal is the correct DomainUser, but the error message says I am not authenticated.
So here is my error Message:
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'. Me.User.Identity.Name=CompanyDomainRyan; System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent=CompanyDomainRyan; HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name=CompanyRyan
Generated by:
Dim secPrinc As System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity = System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent
Me.lblError.Text = ex.Message & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "Me.User.Identity.Name=" & Me.User.Identity.Name & "; System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent=" & secPrinc.Name & "; HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name=" & HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name
Here is the Connection String:
Private ConnString As String = "Server=10.144.162.111;Database=DNS;Trusted_Connection=True"
IIS has 4 websites hosted on it. The parent level allows anonymous with windows auth off, but the website level has anonymous off with widnows auth and digest.
In IIS, is there a problem with having the parent level anonymous and website level windows auth?

Login Failed For User 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'
Hello everyone, I am receiving the above error when using a workstation to connect to my webfiles. I am using windows authentication (whcih I have selected as my only option on the IIS). Impersonate is set to true in the webconfig file, with authentication set to Windows. My connection string is: SQLConnection1 = "initial catalog=SIMS;data source=spacesql;integrated security=SSPI" It runs no problem when I use the localhost. It allows me to use other aspx pages that do not connect to the SQL server. It only gives me this error when I am using a page that tries to connect to the SQL server. The SQL files reside on a separate server to the IIS and I would like it to remain this way. Can anyone help me wit this please Thank you, Rebecca

Hello Guys, I have two machines that i want to use for merge replication : Laptop ( Publisher + Distributor ) VPS90 ( Subscriber ) Both connected via the internet NO DOMAIN Need to implement merge replication ,after initializing the snapshot I get the following error on both machines : Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.1] I created a new user "Repuser" (admin)with the same password on both machines and configured the Agent proccess to run under that account ,now i get this error : Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.1] Please note that : · Mixed mode authentication IS ENABLED ON BOTH MACHINES · BOTH MACHINES CAN PING AND ACCESS EACH OTHER ,BOTH COMPLEETELY VISIBLE. · CONFIGURED ALIASES ON BOTH MACHINES. · Both configured to use Sa account . * I have NO DOMAIN what does this mean? It simply means that the SQL Server Agent process account is the one that€™s being authenticated to connect to the other machine and NOT the Sa account ,WHY? do i have to use Web Synch in my case?

I get the following error message when I select a report: An error has occurred during report processing. Cannot create a connection to data source 'PSS5'. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'. My Data source is set to Windows Integrated Security when I get this error message. If I change my data source to be "Credential supplied by the user running the report", the report generates fine. I am running SQL 2005 SP2. I have SQL reporting services installed on different server than my database services. Both servers are W2K3 R2 x64. My IIS website and virtual directories are set up for Integrated Windows Authentication. My IIS application pool is set up to use an AD service account. I have followed the step/procedures outlined at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/technologies/security/tkerbdel.mspx http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2005/10/12/479871.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/08/10/694657.aspx but to no avail. I am sure that I am missing something, but I can't figure out what. I would like to use Integrated Authentication, any ideas?

Login Failed For User 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'
Hello all - I'm trying to connect to a Sql Server 2005 database from my local development machine, which is running IIS 5.1 (Windows XP Pro). The web application is not using impersonation and has anonymous access enabled. In my system's machine.config file, I've set the processModel section to look like: <processModel userName="System" password="AutoGenerate" /> This has been working fine for us connecting to SQL Server 2000 databases (running on Windows 2003). When we connect, I access Sql 2000 databases under the context of "OurDomainMyMachineName$". However, we've recently installed Sql Server 2005 on a new Windows 2003 server & when I connect to that server, I receive the error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON' when trying to call the SqlConnection.Open() method. Our connection string is very basic: Data Source=sql-dev2; Initial Catalog=TestDatabase; Integrated Security=True; Application Name=PrototypeWebservice; In the Sql Server logins, we've granted the computer account "OurDomainMyMachineName$" db_owner access to every database (in both Sql Server 2000 & 2005). I am able to connect to the Sql Server 2005 databases if I change my section in machine.config to <processModel userName="OurDominamyPersonalAccount" password="myPersonalPwd"/>, or if I move the application to an IIS6 server & set the application pool identity to NETWORK SERVICE, but we'd like to continue accessing our Sql Server 2005 databases (from our development machines running IIS5.1) as we currently access our Sql Server 2000 databases; under the context of "OurDomainMyMachineName$". Would anyone have any ideas why this would be happening or how to resolve? Thanks in advance.

Clustered SSIS: Login Failed For User 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'
Hello. I've built a cluster and followed the steps for creating a clustered Integration Services (SSIS) resource... http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345193.aspx I chose to put SSIS in its own cluster group, separate from the SQL Server cluster group. However, this webpage makes no mention that this setup works only when the SSIS cluster group and SQL Server cluster group are running on the same node. When SSIS is calling a SQLServer/SSIS/msdb store not on the current node, I get the message: ___________________________________________________________________________ The SQL server specified in SSIS service configuration is not present or is not available. This might occur when there is no default instance of SQL Server on the computer. For more information, see the topic "Configuring the Integration Services Service" in Server 2005 Books Online. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'. (MsDtsSrvr) [OK] ___________________________________________________________________________ I'm wondering how other users get around this generic-login error message? Has anyone editted the "Log On As" account for the service (Recommended?) ?

Login Failed For Trusted Connection &&"Login Failed For User 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'&&"
We have a SQL 2000 Active/Passive cluster running on Windows 2000. On one node, everything logs in fine (second node is powered off). I can use local authentication fine in OSQL (-E) and even see my connection in SQLEM current activity as [DomainUser] for the NT account which I am logged in as. Then I bring the second node online and initiate a failover. SQL Server starts but Cluster Admin cannot connect and starts throwing this Anonymous Logon error. I open a command prompt and try the same OSQL (-E) local login and sure enough it is also giving the Anonymous Logon connection user. I do not understand why the failover to a second node is causing the Trusted Connection Local authentication to switch to Anonymous instead of the [DomainUser] which I am using. Any help is appreciated. John.

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login Failed For User 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOG
I have searched all the forums on this issue and tried the other options but nothing seems to work. I have an IIS server using asp.net to connect to a SQL database on a separate server which also happens to be a domain controller(i.e. no local accounts). SqlException (0x80131904): Cannot Open User Default Database. Login Failed. Login Failed For User 'xxxASPNET'
Hey Microsoft: this affects development that will eventually sell a lot of seats on SharePoint Server 2007. If you guys and gals can't straighten out this mess, you can't expect custom solutions with custom web parts. So pay attention for your own good. Yes, SPS 2007 is what this is all about. I've created simpe web parts and deployed them, same VS 2005, but I need local development and debugging for more complex stuff. I'm really disappointed that you have no solution for this problem. I've seen other posts on this, but the result seems to be the same: if you fix it, it's by accident, not by design. 1. I created a blank ASP.NET web site 2. I added a web part manager 3. I added a web part zone I get the error described above. I have no idea why SQL Server settings are so screwed up. I've tried all the stuff in the other posts - security settings, command line installation, etc. None of those worked. The default template(s) don't copy anything into App_Data, nor create an empty folder. I don't know why that is. I have other web sites working just fine, but they use remote SQL databases, or local ones I created, and didn't need profile management (no forms authentication, no web parts, no web zones). I've also started out with a local database, using SQL Authentication, later moving it to a remote server, and never had any problems. The SQL Server developer edition and Express seem to work just fine. I can also debug stored procs when the .mdf is in App_Data. So the problem isn't one of connectivity. What would cause the default screw-up? This would seem to point from all directions to a problem with Visual Studio (2005)? The installation is defalt - perhaps some extras included (copy local), but nothing unusual. AJAX for ASP.net is installed, but not used in the above "default web site" trial. Likewise Syncfusion's tools, which work fine on other developer workstations at this same location, all of which are from the same image (purchased at the same time & imaged). That web parts work on other boxes, running all the same management tools (anti-virus, remote sys admin/sms etc.) makes none of those suspect. I think Microsoft needs to have a clean problem solution and publish it. SP1 certainly doesn't fix it. What's worse is the stupid, lame error message. "I can't open the default database". Well, what did you try? What do you think the default is? What settings are you using? Why is there no debugging information other than the usual worthless trace information showing it's all deep within the ProviderBase and SqlClient namespace code? How is that supposed to be helpful? If anyone has anything solid, not guesses, I'd like to know.

Old Problem, But... Cannot Open User Default Database. Login Failed. Login Failed For User 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.
I didn't use SQL Express before, now I am trying to use it. I thinkk it is convinient if you just want to copy db files to user's machine. like this <add name="schsecurity" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLExpress;Integrated Security=true;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf" /> as long as user has sql express installed, he should be able to use the db once he copy the file aspnetdb.mdf over. but when I tried it, I got Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'. it looks simple, SQL express can not verify user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE' so I connect SQL express with SQL server management studio, and add the user into login of the SQL express and set the user as sysadmin. But I still get the error. Any idea? thanks!

Second User Trying To Connect Generates: Cannot Open User Default Database. Login Failed.
Hi, I'm new to SQL Express 2005. I found information regarding : "Cannot open user default database. Login failed."on this forum but I think that in my case it's a bit different issue. I have a website (ASP.NET 2.0) accessing DB, in the mean time Windows Service tries to update some data in the same DB (Service runs as NT AUTHORITYLOCAL SYSTEM). The second connection is rejected: "Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user ....". Problem occurs only when both: service and website are running at the same time. So service and website are running without problems when they are connecting DB exclusively. My connection string is: "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="|DataDirectory|spider-lab.mdf";Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" I would be grateful if you can help me

After making these modifications I was able to connect to the database through the SQL Server Management Studio Express after I enable the guest account. When I first started I had numerous connection errors and have worked through them all by performing the above and was only finally able to connect after enabling the guest account and adding said account to the SecurityLogins. However, today I am unable to connect I have double and triple checked the settings and still continue to receive the same error.

Login Failed For User 'username'. The User Is Not Associated With A Trusted SQL Server Connection.
Hi All, We have setup a SCOM 2007 Server and in this we have SQL 2005 SP2, We are using two accounts one for OPRATIONAL DATABASE and another one for REPORTING DATABASE after this setup everything was working fine but suddenly my SDK account which is for REPROTING DATABASE was locked by entering wrong password and afterwards I unlocked the password but SINCE this i'm not able to connect to my REPORTING DATABASE and i'm getting following ERROR:- Login Failed for user 'username'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. Taken following action to rectify this problem: 1) Resetting the SDK password with the same password. 2) Restarted all the SQL and SCOM services. 3) Restarted the Server as well. 4) Converted from WINDOWS AUTHENTICATION mode to MIXED mode. But the problem is still persisting, Please help ASAP. Regards, Akhilesh

[298] SQLServer Error: 18452, Login Failed For User ''. The User Is Not Associated With A Trusted SQL Server Connection.
I received the above error yesterday and haven't been able to trace it to any job or process running. We haven't implemented any changes to the server in the past few months, and it doesn't look to be a user-established connection, since the Client IP Address of the SSPI handshake error is from the server itself. Windows Authentication - Cannot Generate SSPI Context - Login Failed For User ''. The User Is Not Associated With A Trusted SQL
We are looking at developing an SQL Server 2005 Database and I would like to use Windows Authentication rather than SQL Server Authentication to connect our client app. In our development environment, we have two Servers, one being used as a file server and the other as an SQL Server. We have now set up a domain using the file server as the domain controller. (We had previously been set up to use a workgroup). I have set up an active directory group called SqlDevelopers and added an active directory user called Jonathan to it. On the SQL Sever, in management studio, I have set up a new server login which uses windows authentication called DomainSqlDevelopers. I used the GUI to verify I could see the domain and the group. The default database is set to a test database on the server. A user in the test database is mapped to the DomainSqlDevelopers and given the Roles dbo, db_datareader, db_datawriter. To test the log in, on the server, I logged out as administrator and in as Jonathan. I could successfully access the server through management studio using windows authentication. However, if I log in as Jonathan on my client PC and try to access the SQL Server using management studio and windows authentication, I have problems. The first time I try I will get a timeout error. If I try again will get either: Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection Or Cannot generate SSPI context I can€™t determine any pattern to which of the above errors I get. However, if I log in as administrator on my client PC, I can connect to the server using management studio and windows authentication. Sounds like Active Directory/Domain or other Network issue (Not really my area). I would be grateful for any help. Thanks, Jon

Login Failed For User ''. The User Is Not Associated With A Trusted SQL Server Connection.
Arrgh! I've check and to make sure SQL Server and Windows Authentication option is selected. The user has Grant access to connect to database engine and Login is enabled...and also has database read/write privs. I can login using the username/password from Mangement Studio Express, but I can't from my app. Here is my web.config: <connectionStrings> <add name="CPT_ConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=192.168.1.40ccsql1;Integrated Security=SSPI;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> <system.web> <identity impersonate="true"></identity> </system.web> The only thing I can think of is that my app is using a DSN to connect to the database. Any ideas? Many thanks, Mark

Login Failed For User ''. The User Is Not Associated With A Trusted SQL Server Connection.
I've seen many, many, many, many posts regarding this topic - but none have been able to fully explain nor fix my problem.I've developed a security solution according to Scott Gu's guide and it works great - but only on my local machine running VWD and SQLExp2005. Once I move this application it completely breaks in the productions environment. Today I managed to get it halfway there. I created a SQL login and changed my web.config to use these credentials - now the web application will come up, but none of my links (that are role based) are displayed - most likely because i'm authenticating as the SQL credentials instead of me. So I switch it back to windows authenticated, as it is on my laptop, and it breaks again. Please tell me theres a way to get this working in production and Scott's fantastic tutorial hasn't wasted me 2 weeks of work. Here's the exact error I get when using Integrated authentication: Server Error in '/Contracts' Application. Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. Cannot Open User Default Database. User Login Failed.
Hi, I'm sorry if this is simple, I'm no DBA but have been tasked with solving this problem... We have a website that connects via ODBC to SQL Server (2k sp1) and at the moment I am getting back about every other time: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open user default database. Login failed. So this is NOT happening every single time. Now I have seen Microsoft KB - 307864 and I can see that none of the databases are marked as suspect, the database I am trying to connect to does exist and is attached and, I have run the command to switch the database to multi-user mode. The probable cause of this problem is that a while ago we had a hard-drive failure and I was forced to reattach some old datafiles (mdf, ldf) as the database. This seemed ok and I can view data etc in enterprise manager no problem. I have checked for orphaned users and the user I am logging in with from the webpage is not listed. So does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening, and more frustratingly for me, why is it only happening some of the time. Thanks for your help, appreciated. James.

Login Failed For User ''. The User Is Not Associated With A Trusted SQL Server Connection.
I installed SQL Server express edition on my corporate desktop computer which is part of a Domain. When I installed it I set it up for mixed mode so I could log into SQL server directly or use Windows authentication. I use the management studio and log into the server using the sa account which I have added a password for but I can not log in using the Windows authentication. The error in the subject line of this post was copied directly from the error log as you can see the user name is null. The following is more of the same log file it seems to start with the SSPI handsshake error. Does anyone know how I can troubleshoot this error? 2007-08-16 17:37:21.76 Logon Error: 17806, Severity: 20, State: 2. 2007-08-16 17:37:21.76 Logon SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. EVENT ID 18456 STATE: 16 Login Failed For User 'DOMAIN/user'. [CLIENT: &&<local Machine&&>] Every Minute In Event Log.
We recently upgraded to SQL 2005 from SQL 2000. We have most of our issues ironed out however about every 1 minute there is a message in the Application Event log and the SQL log that states: EVENT ID 18456 Login Failed for the users DOMAIN/ACCOUNT [CLIENT: <local machine>] This is a state 16 message which I thought meant that the account does not have access to the default database. The account is actually the account that the SQL services run under. Any ideas? We can't seem to figure this one out. We actually upgraded to 2005 from 2000 and had an error appear after every reboot that prevented the SQL Agent from running(This application has failed to start because GAPI32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.) We did a full uninstall of SQL and reinstalled fresh and restored the databases from .bak files and that is when the EVENT ID 18546 started occuring every minute. We don't have any SQL heavy hitters here so please be detailed with any possible solutions. That you very much for any help you can provide! David
