Currently a server running 2003 small business operating system has MSDE 2000 and Microsoft##SSEE. A memory problem exists with SQL consuming over 50% of RAM. Total RAM is 4GB. There is a SQL 2000 patch for this type of problem. However, it calls for SQL to be upgraded to SP4. Problem: Can this MSDE 2000 be upgraded with SP4 and have memory patch applied with Microsoft##SSEE also on this box? Please let me know. Thank you.

Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 && Internet && Licensing
As I understand it, if our database will be accessed by users from the Internet, I should have a Processor License, not a CAL license. This makes sense as you have an undetermined number of users connecting. If I was to purchase Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 and use its SQL Server then can Internet users access this database. It looks, unless I am mistaken that Small Business Server does not have a processor licensing model so I would assume you cannot allow Internet users to access it. Any clarification on this would be appreciated.

SQL 2005 Workgroup Edition On Small Business Server 2003 R2
I have an SBS 2003 server that is running SQL 2000 standard edition which was recently upgraded to Small Business Server 2003 R2. I have installed SQL 2005 workgroup edition on the SBS 2003 R2 server which acts both as an AD server and Exchange server. I installed SQL 2005 for the purpose of using SQL 2005 for my sharepoint services on the Small Business Server R2. Now I have SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 workgroup edition installed, but I'm unsure whether I can uninstall the SQL 2000 and how to know whether the sharepoint instance is running in SQL 2005 or SQL 2000? Additionally, I have some MSDE's running for WSUS and Server Reporting which are installed by the Small Business Server installation. Which tools should I use to become familiar with identifying the databases and which version of the database engine is used for which database regardless of whether it is a SQL instance or a MSDE instance. How can I identify which SQL versions are not in use and whether I can uninstall if not needed. Thanks!!

Hi, Just upgraded some development desktops to Vista Business. However we need to still connect to some older remote windows 2000/SQL 2000 servers. Trying to setup an ODBC system DSN on our Vista Business local desktop we get the following errors - -START ERROR WINDOW- Connection Failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 772 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (SECDoClientHandshake()0. Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 18 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SSL Security Error -END ERROR WINDOW- Any help greatly appreciated as this is stopping us from making database/table connections etc. We've checked the firewall setup and all is well there. PS - we can still connect fine using XP or windows 2000 desktops and their local DSNs.

Can't Connect .Net Application From Windows Server 2003 To Database Server (SQL Server 2000)
Hi, I am having a problem connecting my .net applications from the application server to the database server. When I run the application from my windows xp (sp2) box it works fine. When I try to connect via SQL Management Studio to the database server from the application server I get the same error. Here is the error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Here is the Environment: App Server: Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Inside Company's Firewall/ Network Database Server: Windows Server 2000 Advanced Edition SQL Server 2000 SP4 Remote Connections to the Server is checked Enable Protocols: Named Pipes & TCP/IP TCP/IP Port: 1402 (I don't know why it isn't the default of 1433) The db server is sitting out side the Company's firewall (don't ask me why). I can access it fine from inside the firewall on my XP box but not from windows server 2003. There is a web server outside the our network that also connects to the db server with no problem and that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition. I can ping the db server from the app server using the IP address. I tried using the IP address and the port 1402 in my connection string but that didn't work from any machine (XP and Server). I imagine the issue is somehow related to the company's firewall but why would it only block Windows Server 2003 and not XP? What do I tell the network admin to change? Any help would be appreciated. Any Books That Explain How To Setup Windows 2003 Server + SQL Server 2000?
My uncle runs a small networking company and has extra licenses for Windows 2003 Server as well as SQL Server 2000. Since I just graduated from college and have started working as a database programmer (for a different company) I'd like to setup a small server at home to learn more about SQL (as well as networking, but SQL is my primary concern). I know I can setup SQL Server 2000 on my main PC, but I'd still like to set everything up in a server environment. So, what I'm wondering is if any books (or web sites?) exist that walk you through setting up Windows 2003 Server and SQL Server 2000. I've actually set these up before (it's not very complicated) but I'm not sure if I did it the "correct" way. Ideally if any books exist on O'Reilly's Safari Bookshelf that would be even better. Distributed Transactions Problem With SQL Server 2000 On Windows Server 2003
Hi I'm running SQL Server 2000 on Windows Server 2000, but migrating all databases on SQL Server 2000 to a Server running Windows 2003 The last time I moved everything over to a new Windows 2000 server some of my SQL statements wouldn't work - and returned the following error message: 'The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' was unable to begin a distributed transaction' I was able to cure this by following advice from Microsoft.com. I changed Registry settings as follows: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSDTCMTxOCI ] "OracleXaLib"="oraclient9.dll" "OracleSqlLib"="orasql9.dll" "OracleOciLib"="oci.dll" I'm now migrating my SQL Server 2000 to a large server running Windows Server 2003 5.2., and the fix doesn't seem to work. If I run code in QA as below, it returns the error message above: select Field1,Field2, dbo.fn_findpt(Code,Groupid)as Func_Field into #Test from Mytable where Tcode is not null and Team ='Alpha' dbo.fn_findpt is a function which pulls data from an Oracle database using MSDAORA - and has worked fine for ages on the old Windows 2000 server. I have also tried the process below kindly sent to me by Balmukund Lakhani – my comments follow: Looks like you are getting hit by MSDTC default security settings for Windows 2003. Anyway, lets try below. a. Click Start, and then click Run. b. In the Run dialog box, type dcomcnfg.exe, and then click OK. c. In the Component Services window, expand Component Services, expand Computers, and then expand My Computer. d. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. e. In the My Computer Properties dialog box, click Security Configuration on the MSDTC tab. f. In the Security Configuration dialog box, click to select the Network DTC Access check box. g. To allow the distributed transaction to run on this computer from a remote computer, click to select the Allow Inbound check box. h. To allow the distributed transaction to run on a remote computer from this computer, click to select the Allow Outbound check box. i. Under the Transaction Manager Communication group, click to select the No Authentication Required option. j. In the Security Configuration dialog box, click OK. k. In the My Computer Properties dialog box, click OK. My Reply: I went through your outlined procedure. All was checked as you described: 'Allow Inbound' checked 'Allow Outbound' checked ('Allow Remote Clients' checked?? 'Allow Remote Administration' checked?? not sure about the above 2) However, I found that the 'No Authentication Required Option' wasn't selected so that is now selected. It prompted to restart MsTDC, which I did. Unfortunately, when I run code in QA, I get the same message. So the situation remains: I can link to the Oracle Server fine on the new Windows 2003 server. Hello ALL I have configured a website on a windows 2003 server, while its database is residing on a remote server with sqlserver 2000 database. In the connection string, I use the server IP address for the remote SQL server, and when the website is browsed, i get an error something similar to the one below: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. I have a problem installing SQL Server 2000 standard edition in a Windows 2003 Server , when I try to setup there is a message saying : " You cannot install SQL server 2000 sp 2 and below in this operating system " and the installation stops . I have tried to run sp3 before the installation but obviously It doesn´t work . I think the solution is something like updating the setup program to make it work in Windows 2003 Server , when I see the system requirements on the box it says that I can install SQL server 2000 in w2003 . what can I do ? thanks a lot for your help .

I have a SQL 2000 DB server running win 2k. I have just recently bought a new webserver that has 2003 server installed on it. When I try to connect to SQL (through a webapp) using integrated security I get the error message Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON' I've tried configuring an application pool to run as a domain user and place the web app into the app pool but the pool fails. The event viewer has an error message that reads IDENTITY OF THE APPLICATION POOL IS INVALID I've even tried congifuring the process model section of the machine.config to run as a domain user. Its almost as if the identity is not getting passed over to sql. any ideas please!!!!!!!!! This is driving me nutZZZZZZ

I have several database on a Windows Server 2003. I re-registered this SQLserver, which is local, and after that I cannot see any of the databases inthe Enterprise Manager. The databases still work, since my applications workfine. I have no clue how can I make these databases visible in EnterpriseManager. I tried registering this SQL Server in Enterprise Manager underWindows accounts and SQL Server accounts. Nothing works.Can anybody help?

Hello people, I currently have a SQL Std Srv 2000 v 8.0.760 sp3 running on a Windows 2003 Server without SP1. The business application using the SQL is Optika Acorde v4.0. I have just been brought on to help bring the servers up to date. Unfortunately when SP1 was applied the server failed to reboot. We brought everything back to life with a back up. Now it is my intention to build a new server while the other one remains as is for now. How would one suggest installing the SQL 2K Std Srv on the W2K3 Std Srv? 1. Bring the W2k3 server to life with all patches then install SQL w/ sp4 and install the application, then migrate the data over? 2. Install Win2K3, install SQL 2K -> sp4, and install the W2K3 sp1... 3. Install Win2K3, install SQL 2K -> W2k3sp1 -> SQL 2K sp4... Ok I see countless opportunities to debate these possibilities, but there has to be some kind of best practices on a recommended procedure. Thank you for your time,

SQL Server 2000 Installation Problems On Windows 2003 Ent X64 Cluster
I have a Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 edition cluster setup and functioning normally. Now, I am trying to get SQL Server 2000 installed as a failover cluster but am having some difficulty. When installing, I get the message '[sqsrvres] ODBC sqldriverconnect failed' in the event log. The message happens when the installer is trying to bring the SQL Server Service resource online. I am able to ping the name of the instance successfully. I am able to manually start the 'MSSQL$InstanceName' service. I have turned off the firewall on both machines, but this did not help. I have the DTC Service setup as a resource in the same cluster group. I also read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;815431 which seemed promising, but did not reolve the problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Andy

I have a mobile device application using mobile sql 2005 replicating with sql 2000 in a x86 environment. This works fine! I'm having issues getting this to work under Windows Server 2003 X64. I've got all the components installed under the X64 environment including CLR 2.0 X64 and the mobile sql tools. the but when I run the Configure Web Synchronization Wizard I get the following error. SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition Server Tools were not found on the IIS server. Run the SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition Server Tools installer.... Hi, i am digamber i have created a .Net class library for data access, I have sql server 2000 installed in windows server 2003. but when i try to access the database from another domain where we are creating Presentation logic like we are accessing it from winXP, i am getting a sql server does not exist or access denied error message, but it is running well when i connect from same Domain having sql server 2000 installed i.e windows 2003 server. Synchronization Of Business Contacts In Outlook With Small Business Accounting
Can anyone take me through synchronization of contacts within Business Contacts Outlook into Microsoft Small Business Accounts? I run a stand alone PC with NO network. When SBA came SQL was also installed. Apparently you can synchronise Contacts within Business Contacts with SBA but both SBA & Outlook should work through the same SQL server. Has anyone tried this? Can Windows 2003 Server Backup Utility Be Used To Backup A SQL 2000 Dbase
Windows 2003 backup utility uses the shadow copy option that allows it to copy open files. Therefore, can I use this utility to backup the .mdf and .ldf files for my SQL 2000 database? I can then attach the .mdf files if I need to restore the database to another server. Can anyone tell me if this is safe? I've tried it and it worked but I'm worried there maybe some lurking danger in using this approach.

Error With SQL Server After Trying To Download Outlook 2003 Business Contact Manager
I downloaded Business Contract Manager "Update" from the Microsoft website not realizing that this was the entire Business Contact program, which I already had. I thought I was getting only an "update" to an existing Microsoft Small Business Office 2003 Suite program. After downloading, I discovered by entire existing business management database was wiped out. When I performed a System Restore back a few days, it did not recover my Business Contact Management program at all, nor did it restore my Business Contact Management database. Instead, it left me with this error message: "Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (Could not open SQLEVN70.RLL). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem." Now when I open my Outlook 2003 email program, I get this same message each time. Can someone help me understand what happened here and how to fix it?

The application is aclient/server one. In each client computer there's a link to theapplication on the server. There is no problem with Windows 98,Windows 2000 pro, Windows xp pro clients, but the windows 95 onescannot log in to the database. Login fails.Till a week ago the application was running on a Windows 2000 serverwith SQL 2000 install and the W95 clients had no problem connecting tothe database, so my guess is the error has something to do withWindows 2003 server, but what'causing the error?I tried to install a newer version of MDAC (MDAC 2.5, the last versionof MDAC you can install on W95)but with no success.
