SQL SERVER EXPRESS BETA1 (2005) IS NOT RUNNING :SHARED MEMORY Provider Error
I'm facing several problems that I tryied to short out by msdn but could not get solution
I'm using visual studio .NET 2005 Beta(WHIDBEY),and
problem:1 sql server2005 Express edition is not running on My stand alone machine(AMD Athlon Xp 2000+,512 MB DDR Ram,CPU Clock speed 1.67 GHz)
Whenever I try to connect to SqlExpress using the server explorer in the VisualStudio.NET 2005 using follwing option in connection properties Dialog Box :
1.server name: the name of my computer(I'm using the Default Instance of SQLEXPRESS 2005) 2.Enter Information to log on to the server:usewindowsNt Integrated Security3.when I go to select the inuilt data base like masters it gives following Error message:-
"Shared memory provider:Specifed Module could not be Found"
problem:2In the process of making of Data Access component,I made an assembly named "TNB.DataLayer.CSharp.dll" and putted it at two place one in the ..in folder and another in the folder having the solution file .Now I want this asssenbly to put in Global Assembly cache so that parts of my project (a window Application and a Web Application) can access the database using this TNB.DataLayer.CSharp.dll Now i need to make my assembly a strong name so I used following at the .NET command Prompt sn.exe -k TNBKeyPair.snkand put this file in the folder where My solotion .sln file exist.now as I have the keypair file,I tryied to sign the assembly TNB.DataLayer.CSharp.dll with this key for this when I added the following in to the AssemblyInfo.cs file[assembly: AssemblyKeyFileAttribute("TNBKeyPair.snk")]
warning on bulding the solution is
Warning 1: Use command line option '/keyfile' or appropriate project settings instead of 'AssemblyKeyFileAttribute' D:gopaldot net newTNBTNBPropertiesAssemblyInfo.cs 19 11
and when I use the /keyfile:TNBKeyfile at the command prompt I got another Error message:The file name, directory name, or volume lable syntax is incorrect.
and finally I'm not able to sign the Dll and to put it in global assembly to use from different envioronments.
so please help me in solving this problem.

Web Application And Role Management In Sql Server 2005
Hi every body

I'm developing a web application and i like to use the sql server 2005 role management features istead of developing a role management package in my program, I can do it on my tables and othe database items but I have no idea about using database access rights in my web pages to permit some one viewing or updating a web form... Is there any system table or system stored procedure showing access rights in my data base? or is there another idea to do this??

SQL Server 2005 Application Role's Problem

Hi all.

I have developed a VB6 program which will activate an Application Role to UPDATE and INSERT some tables in SQL Server 2005.

My program will login with a username, say USER and then run with the rights of the Application Role which will SELECT, UPDATE and INSERT the following tables:
1) Table A
2) Table B
3) Table C

The USER login is a restricted user which has only SELECT permission to Table A, B and C.

I encounter a problem in which my program can only UPDATE table B and table C but Table A. I have double checked the settings of Table A, Table B and Table C. Theirs are all same. Fyi, the column which can't be updated is of type "datetime".

Once i grant USER login UPDATE permission to Table A, my program works perfectly in which it can UPDATE all the tables including Table A.

I have tried for almost 2 days but am still clueless. Any ideas?

Is there any limitation for setting password to an approle (like it should be 8 character long, should not start with numbers) ?

If so, what are those limitations ?

Does the same is applicable for sp_setapprole which uses the same password ?

SQL 'Server' Or 'Local' Database For Uploading To Hosting Service Provider
Hi, I'm developing a website using VWD 2005 Express, which needs a Membership system and a products database. Using the VWD inherent Web Site Administration tool makes the membership set up easy but by default it creates a 'Local' SQL database in a folder named 'Apps_Data' in the VWD project. My question is: considering I will need to upload my web site to a Hosting Service, would it be better to change the default so that the membership systems, and the product database I need, are created in an SQL 'Server' database instead of a 'Local' database?
The hosting service I am considering using is having a bit of a problem understanding this question, I hope it makes sense to someone or am I asking a stupid question?

Sending SQL 2005 Dbmail When Using Application Role
I am attempting to use dbmail from an application that logs in to my database using an application role. Since the application role does not exist outside the database, I created an spSendEmail in the database with "execute as login='mailagent'" in it: I set the database to trustworthy, created a 'mailagent' account and added it to the msdb database with the databasemailuser role rights.

Email works just fine on the server when I use the execute as login='mailagent' to fire off the msdb..sp_send_dbmail. But from the .NET application, I get the error: "Cannot execute as the server principal because the principal 'mailagent' does not exist, this type of principal cannot be impersonated, or you do not have permission." When I run my spSendEmail stored procedure from the calling database, I get the same error.

Error &&"Provider Cannot Be Found. It May Not Be Properly Installed.&&" After Deploying Application On Windows 2003 Server
hello folks

i have recently started to work with the analysis services and i am having some problems.

i have made a web application that for now just tries to connect to an analysis server.

The server is installed on an xp sp 2 system.

for testing, i used my local computer, which is running also win xp sp2. After deploying, the application can connect to the AS server on the other machine. the problem occurs when i try to deploy the applicatuion on the production server, which is running win 2k3 server on 32 bit. When deploying, i use the same connection string, so it should try to connect to the AS server installed on a win xp sp2 system.

The first thing that came to my mind was to check the MDAC versions, be cause of the message: "Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."

on my computer, where the application worked ok, the version is MDAC 2.8 SP 1 Windows XP SP 2

on the win2k3 server, the MDAC version is : MDAC 2.8 SP2.... i thought it was the version of the service pack, so o searched for the update of MDAC 2.8 SP1, trying to install mdac 2.8 sp2 to see if i was to see the same error, but i found that mdac 2.8 sp2 is only for win2k3 server, and for win xp is mdac 2.8 sp1, according to this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/884103

Now i got confused and have no clues how to make this work...

An Error When Instantiating C#-based COM Object In OLE DB Provider Linked To SQL Server Express
Hi,

I'm working on an OLE DB provider. This provider is supposed to retrieve data from managed application running in background. The data retrieval is handled by C# component communicating with source application via remoting, the data are then exposed via component's COM interface. OLE DB provider itself instantiates the communication component.

Now, the problem: this worked ok in SQL server 2000, but it doesn't seem to work in SQL server express edition. Concretely, the communication component fails to get created (CoCreateInstance ends with 'class not registered') and SQL server logs this:

I've googled a bit and found out someone else getting this message, and he was told something like 'trying to load CLR in some cases is disabled in newer (>2000) versions of SQL server'.

Now, I have very little knowledge of SQL server, CLR integration etc., so I'm not sure whether this applies to my case as well, but I think so - that problematic COM object is C#-based.

I'd be glad for any hints, ideas how to solve this issue, I just need the OLE DB provider to be able to access that managed application.

How To Get A Web Application To Connect To SQL Server 2005 Express

I'm a newbie here so forgive me if I have missed something completely obvious.
I have bought a shopping cart script of a well known company (Evolve Merchant 5) and I wish to set it up locally on my development server, I created a virtual directory, set the web application up and get the asp pages to display perfectly. However, in the configuration file (global.asa & web.config) for the application it reguests information to be provided: <add key="DBName" value="Database name" />
<add key="DBServer" value="IP address of server" />
<add key="DBUserName" value="User name" />
<add key="DBPassword" value="password" />
<add key="AltPassword" value="password" />

What I can't determine is what the SQL Server 2005's IP address is? the pages of this application show when I type http://localhost/catalogue into IE, so I presumed the server address would be the IP of localhost, when typed ping localhost into command promt it gives me 127.0.0.1, but when I enter this into the config file and try to load the application it just hangs and then eventually says:
"Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005)[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied./catalogue/global.asa, line 54"
I have created a new database in SQL Express called: merchant509 and restored the tables to it as the manufactures help files state, I created a new login called shop which uses SQl authentication, so as I can provide a password. So the settings should look like this:

<add key="DBUserName" value="shop" />
<add key="DBPassword" value="1684" />

But it doesn't work, does anyone know what i have done wrong?? the SQL server is runnign on the same computer as I am trying to access it from, it is set to accept all forms of comunication i.e. TCP/IP etc.. in the server configuration manager the IP address part of TCP/IP in protocols shows IP1 as 192.168.2.2 active yes enabled yes, and IP2 as 127.0.0.1 active yes and enables yes, I have tried the 192.168.2.2 and this gives the same errors, this is my registed IP on my home network.
I'm now stumped, I haven't a clue what else I can try, I would be very greatfull if anyone has any ideas.

Moving A Database Application To SQL Server 2005 Express
I have been programming an application with VC++ 2005 and SQL Server 2005. I have converted an old 16-bit database to 32-bit managed code and SQL server and the application seems to be good. Now I want to deploy the application to another server for testing.

I have installed XP SP2, Windows Installer 3.1, Net framework 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 express to the test server. I have transferred the application with WI 3.1 and the program works well in the test server till the first SQL command. I have made a back up of the database and restored it in the test server. In the test server I can log in the database with Server Management studio and I can read the data there correctly. I have enabled both named pipes and TCP/IP for the database in the test server. With Surface Area Configuration I have enabled Local and Remote Connections Using both TCP/IP and named pipes. I only need Windows authentication at this time.

After all this when I come to the first SQL command in the application on the test server I receive the error message:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 €“ Could not open a connection to SQL Server).

My connection string to the database is:
'connection->ConnectionString = "Persist Security Info=False; Integrated Security =SSPI;"
"Data Source=TESTSERVER; Initial Catalog=TESTDATABASE;";'

When I use "Data Source=DevelopmentServer", the application works well on the development server.

Can't understand what is still wrong. Can you possibly have an answer for me?

Installing SQL Server 2005 Express As Part Of My Application
I have found a lot of info on MS site regarding installing SQL Server 2005 Express as part of an application. I have found these articles to be extremely inaccurate or at best incomplete.

1. The documentation says all I need is the setup.exe from SQLEXP but this is not true.

2. When I do launch setup.exe during my app's install, it fails because setup.exe trys to run the support.msi. Of course this causes failure because my install is also an msi.

So, does anyone know how to install SQLEXPRESS as part of my app's install?

SQL Server Express Uploading
Hi All,

I have created my first database in SQL Server 2005 Express and would like to try putting it online.

I asked the web host to create an account. They gave me host name, database name, username and password.

The problem is that i dont know where i enter that information.

I cant find the answer in my books or online. The host said i needed MSSQL Enterprise manager.

Can i get this with the Express or do i need to pay for a different version of SQL Server? If Express has it, where do i find it please?

Any help much appreciated, as i'm completely lost!

Creating An Application On SQL Server 2005 Express That Will Be Migrated To SQL Server

I have several general questions about this but I thought I would describe what I am doing first. My senior project team is developing a web application that will wind up using SQL Server for the database. We are writing it in ASP.net and developing the database on SQL Server Express. My job is to develop and deploy the database. I have an ERD designed and am getting ready to start coding the tables, constraints and stored proceedures but am unsure of a couple of things.

1) How do I create a new schema?
2) I can see how to create tables in the GUI but what I am trying to do is create scripts that can be used to create the tables and objects on the actual server that our client will be using. How do I create scripts in 2005 Express? Do I just go click on the new query button?
3) Are scripts that work for Express going to have any problem executing on SQL Server?

Problem Migrating Application Database From SQL Server 2000 To Express Edition 2005
Hi there

I am new to SQL Server, but the current project that I am working on has the following requirement:-

1) Migrate the application (a servlet based web application on Apache Tomcat) from Solaris to Wintel
2) Migrate the supporting database from SQL Server 2000 to Sql Server 2005
3) Get IIS to communicate with Tomcat for serving servlet/jsp etc to the client

Though I successfully completed item 1 above, am stuck at item 2. Details are below

Actions taken for item 2

A. Installed MS 2005
B. Created new database in MS 2005 (logged in as user 'sa')
C. Generated SQL scripts (such as create table table_A etc) from existing MS 2000
D. Genearted SQL scripts (such as insert into table_A etc) from existing MS 2000
E. Created new schema in MS 2005
F. Ran scripts C & D in the new schema. All tables are records populated.
G. Obtained new JDBC driver and test run to see if connection is working fine, and it worked. Even ran an sql statment

Code Block[select count(*) from sa.table_A]

and got appropriate response.

H. When I made the application to talk to this new database (which is a copy of Production from step C, D above), it's behaving as though it cannot find the record.
I. When I further debugged, I realised that the web application is excuting queries without mentioning the schema. For eg.

Code Block[Select firstName, lastName from table_A]

Or rather it assumes that the user connecting to database is same as the schema name.

J. To further ascertain my point, I ran the query

Code Block[Select firstName, lastName from sa.table_A]

and it worked!

Now the real problem is that I cannot modify the existing code to append a schema name and this approach is rather not recommended best practise.

I tried to match the user name with the schema name, even made this schema as default to the user. But still not finding any luck.

I request all you experts out there to help me out with this problem.

It seems that i can not connect to the abc.mdf in SSMSE while the VB program is running. (ERROR:

If i connect to the abc.mdf first in SSMSE, then run the VB program afterwards, it gives me the error on this line -- sqlConnection1.Open()

I want to be able to access the abc.mdf database with both SSMSE and VB at the same time. Could anyone help me on this ?

ODBC Connection For Client Application To SQL Server 2005 Express Installed On Network Computer
Hi All,

I've developed an application that connects to a SQL Server 2005 Express database. I created a DSN to connect to the database through ODBC. Currently, I am testing locally and everything works fine.

I would now like to install my application on another workstation and connect remotely to the database located on my development machine.

The client workstation does not have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on it because I would just like my application to connect remotely by creating the DSN and using ODBC. What I'm missing here are the database drivers. The "SQL Natice Client" is not available on this client workstation. How can I deploy the necessary drivers with my installation file so that I may create the required DSN name using the SQL Native Client driver?

This article show how to create new user and setup for sql server notification.But In my case user was alredy existing in database. which is very common senario in most cases. So i did following( check the SQL script below) but then i get this error

Uploading Database To Sever With Sql Server Management Studio Express
Hello,

I would like some help in uploading a database from my harddrive to a server using sql server management studio express.

If I try to attach it to the server, this program only looks at the files on this server and not on my harddrive. So how can I copy a sql database to my folder on the server.

I am sure it must be a simple problem, but I've been bizzy with it for about a day now. So, please advice.

One issue has got me stuck while getting to build an application (ASP.NET). Whenever I try to connect to SQL Server 2005 (installed on local host) using Visual Web Developer 2005 Databse Explorer, I get the following error message:
"An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. when connection to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - could not open a connection to SQL Server)"
NB: - on SQL Servers' Surface Area Configuration, Remote connections are set to "Local and Remote connnections" and "Using both TCP/IP and named pipes".
Anyone knows how to fix this? pse help.

We just changed the dev environment to sqlagent. From then we were unable to see the reports on the report server because:

An error has occurred during report processing.

Cannot create a connection to data source 'IHRSDataSource'.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

this error is cropping up.

To Resolve this issue, we checked the Surface Area Configuration and also checked the Reporting Service Configuration . There seem to be no problem and everything looks ok.

Please help me in resolving this issue.

I realised this has been done to death, and so much information out there but I am still in a quandry.

I have had to rebuild my computer.

This is what I did

XP machine
using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
using Windows Authentication
NZ6(MSSQLSERVER)

straight default install all the way

unfortunately when ready to run reports from my instance(computer)
I received the error as in provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server

thought I had it all okayed but obviously something not right

so ended up unistalling then - did the following:

Load SQL Server from disc1 and start install
failed on alter Counter Registry key error
fixed this from KB article (known error that can happen)
restarted
Went to Windows Update
check IIS is installed - tick is on - IIS - admin tools - make sure asp2 is associated - yes ok
Then back to install sql server - there is no instance set up yet
Disk 2 and setup .exe

All ok on Reporting Services, Analysis etc.

But once again all seems fine but still getting the error:

connection is all fine in Management Studio - eg I can see tables etc
connection is all fine in Business Intelligence - eg I can preview my reports
I then can deploy up to - NZ6
open NZ6
eports
report is there fine - but just errors

some simple little tick that I have not done!!

I seem to have checked and rechecked everything and obviously doing another re-install does not seem a logical step from here.
I will continue to check but if someone jump in and advise please would be great.

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Uploading An SQL Server Express Database To A Server
I am new with Visual Web Developer SQL Express and for a start I have been using the VWDHosting.net (Trial hosting for VWD 2005 Express) with a test website using login and membership controls. I followed the excellent instruction in the User Guide (for transferring data and adapting the connectionstring) and it worked succesfully. However, I have problems getting the same test website installed with my hosting provider.The VWDhosting.net has a special functionality for uploading the contents of a local database to a database created on the server. In the Restore database section is a field the "Restore database from SQL Server 2005 mdf file". After selecting in that field your local database, you can click the "Attach"-button and then the contents of the local database are transferred to the database on the server. With my hosting provider (using SQL Server 2000) I have to use the same procedure: creating a MS SQL database on the server and then transfer the contents of my local database. How can I do this? (My hosting provider does not offer me a similar "Attach" button).Do I have to use SQL Server Management Studio?Kees

SQL 2005: Pooling, Application Roles And SQL Server Error 18059

I have a problem with SQL Server 2005 and application roles and pooling. I needed to use application roles and I needed to use pooling at the same time for an application. I am using sp_setapprole and sp_unsetapprole. In order to ensure that the application role is always set and unset by the application, I actually developed a custom Data Provider based on the SqlClient Data Provider. I have a custom Connection and Command class that wrap the SqlClient versions. Upon opening my custom Connection class, I execute the sp_setapprole stored procedure. Upon closing or disposing the connection, I call sp_unsetapprole.

This works fine in 99% of my tests. However, I have three or four methods (always the same ones, but one only fails ever so often) that fail, but only under the following circumstances:

Pooling is turned on (but pool size doesn't matter)

I am using my custom Data Provider (using System.Data.SqlClient does not cause this issue... but I am also not using approles then)

When other tests have run in the same test run. I.e. when I run the failing methods by themselves in a test run, there is no problem.
So it seems to me that the problem is related to using application roles with pooling turned on. For scalability reasons, we cannot turn pooling off. When the methods fail, I see the following two (2) entries in the SQL Log:

Error: 18059, Severity: 20, State 1.

The connection has been dropped because the principal that opened it subsequently assumed a new security context, and then tried to reset the connection under its impersonated security context. This scenario is not supported. See "Impersonation Overview" in Books Online.
I understand the error message somewhat. However, I am not sure why the "reset" of the connection occurs. My code does not call reset anywhere, so it must be something that happens in the background.

I am reviewing code to see if there is possibly a situation where the sp_unsetapprole procedure does not get called or does not get called successfully, but there is a lot of code (in many custom components).

I would like to know if anyone has a suggestion on how to solve this problem, or, find the code that may be causing the problem.
