Select Statement For Dropdown List


I have a dropdown list that is populated by two columns in a database.
select (firstname+surname) AS Fullname from table where id = 'id';

It works fine but i want to know how i would get a space between the firstname and the surname because at the moment all the values come back as JoeBloggs....without any spaces

I have a dropdownlist that is populated with an sqldatasource as follows:
 
SELECT [Project_ID], [Title] FROM [Projects] WHERE [Username] = @Username AND Hide ='false'
 
The Datavalue vield of the DDL is populated with the [Title].
 
When the user submits the form [including the value of the of the drop down list] i want to be able to add the Project ID and the Title Values into another database table.

Passing Value From Dropdown List
Hi every one,

I am trying to pass a seleted value into a sql query which I am writing as Sql Command text.

Dropdown List Width
Hi everybody,

I created a multivalue parameter in SSRS 2005 SP2, but the problem is that the width of the dropdown list is too small to fit my data (I'd like to avoid scrolling horizontally).

Is there any way to configure this?

Dropdown List Issue

I am having the following issue with one of my reports using Reporting Services 2005. When you chose a value from dropdown list , the page reloads but the dropdown list does not keep the value selected. It always display the first item from the dropdown list.

Parameter DropDown List Grayed-out
 

I am building a report with several search parameters; three of which are dropdown boxes each populated by a data set. I wanted something more user-friendly than the default "(Null)" in the dropdown, so for each data set, it returns a result set UNIONed with " N/A" to show up first as the default.
 
For some reason, when the report loads, the first dropdown populates just fine and does indeed have the default value " N/A" but the other two dropdowns are grayed-out. Until you change the first dropdown (to anything, apparently it doesn't matter what you change it to) the other two stay grayed-out. When the first is changed, the other two are populated and default to the desired " N/A" default value.
 
Why would it do this, when it didn't do it before; i.e. when the default for all of them was simply null. The dropdowns are not dependent on each other; they don't depend on other parameters for their values. Any help would be appreciated.

Special Characters In A Dropdown List
I have a web form that needs to be bilingual.  It contains several dropdown lists.  The "text" and "value" for each item in the dropdown list is retrieved from a database.  The logic reads the database and then populates the various dropdowns with logic such as:

dim newItem as new ListItem(textString, valueString)

theDropDown.items.add(newItem)

The problem that I am having occurs when the textString needs to contains special characters such as accented vowels or an "n" with a tilde.  I have tried populating the database with HTML-formatted strings such as "Avi&oacute;n", hoping that this would display "Avion" with an accute accent over the "o".  Unfortunately it displays "Avi&oacute;n".

How do I get dynamically-created dropdowns to display special characters?  If the answer is to simply store the special characters directly in the database, then the question becomes how do I get the special characters into the database?  I tried to figure out how to write a T-SQL command such as

update tablex set SpanishName = 'Avion' where id=999

but I can't figure out the syntax to insert an accented 'o' into the string.

Select Statement Using Multi-list Box Values For WHERE IN SQL Clause
I have a gridview that is based on the selection(s) in a listbox.  The gridview renders fine if I only select one value from the listbox.  I recive this error though when I select more that one value from the listbox:
Syntax error converting the nvarchar value '4,1' to a column of data type int.  If, however, I hard code 4,1 in place of @ListSelection (see below selectCommand WHERE and IN Clauses) the gridview renders perfectly.

Trying To Use The Results Of A Case Statement In My Select List In My WHERE Clause?
I am fairly new with SQL and still learning.  I have used a case statemtent for a column in my select list and want to use the results of that statement's field in my WHERE clause but it is not working for me.  Here is the code I have so far:

l.duedate,
case when pc.duedate >= l.duedate then pc.duedate end as RateDueDate,

I want to put the results of this case statment in my where clause like highlighted above but it is not working because RateDueDate is not an actual column in the table.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Trying To Populate Dropdown List From SQL Data Source

Separate Dropdown List Selectedvalue Into Two Fields

Without Checkbox Leftside Of The Dropdown Value List Of The Parameter
Hi,

I believe somebody know the reason. Please help me on it!

I plan to pass a multivalued parameter from my web application to the server report, and let user select the value(s) from the value set. But when I run the report, there's no checkbox leftside of the values, that means user has no choice on this parameter.

Is there any way to do it?

Populate Dropdown List With Dimension Hierarchies
Hi,

I am currently trying to develop an application which would help in retrieving data from cubes (Microsoft Analysis Services)! The user would not be accessing the Business Intelligence Studio, etc. but would be viewing the data from a custom made application developed in VB.Net2005.

While implementing this, I want to populate the drop-down-list in the VB(.Net) Form, by retrieving the various hierarchies in the dimensions of the cubes (along with dimensions if possible). This should be done dynamically and in real-time!

Can you please help in implementing this? Any code/method, etc would be highly appreciated!

Oleddb Dropdown List Is Empty In Excel
Hello,

I have an issue with connecting Excel to an analysis Services 2005 database. The computer is running Windows XP Sp2 and Office XP. I installed the oledb driver 9.0 but when I tried to connect with the pivot table and I want to create the connection, the dropdown list of the data provider is empty. I tried on another computer with Excel XP and the system is working fine.
Is there somebody that could help?

ForEach File In Folder - Missing From Dropdown List
I'm working through the SSIS tutorial, and am on lesson 2.
This says
"Double-click Foreach File in Folder to reopen the Foreach Loop Editor.

Click Collection.

On the Collection page, select Foreach File Enumerator."

The drop down only contains

How do I get the "foreach file in folder" to appear in the drop down list?

Firefox In Mac Fails To Render Scrollbar In The Multi-value Parameter Dropdown List Generated By ReportViewer.
Our clients working with the Firefox browser on a Mac are unable to use the Multi-Value parameter drop down lists that the Report Viewer control generates.  Of course I realize that the multi-select dropdown lists are not really dropdown option lists using the standard HTML select tag, but are rather tables within div tags with cells that contain spans, inputs, and labels.
 
Originally the report viewer displayed these lists in the wrong position within Firefox on any platform (Mac or PC).  Furthermore, there were other visibility problems with those lists that made it virtually impossible to select a checkbox within the list.  Fortunately, Microsoft fixed this problem with the latest version of Report Viewer, which we downloaded from the following link:

So currently we have SQL Reporting Services Report Viewer 9.0.21022.8 installed on our web server.  And the dropdown lists do appear as expected, and they work properly in Firefox on a PC.
 
But, when the control is rendered in Firefox on a Mac, the list is not scrollable.  The scroll bar that should appear on the right-hand side of the dropdown list, which would enable users to select values toward the bottom of the list, does not appear.  That scrollbar is missing in Firefox.

This is likely related to a Firefox rendering issue with the overflow:auto style.  There are numerous entries on the web that indicate Firefox for Mac has a problem with overflow:auto.  For example:

Remove &&"Select All&&" Options From Multi Select Parameter Dropdown

I am using SQL Server 2005 with SP2. I have multi select parameter in the report. In SP2 reporting services gives Select All option in the drop down.

 

Is there any way I can remove that option from the list?

Removing &&<Select A Value&&> Item From The Singlevalued Parameter Dropdown

I am developing reports using SQL Reporting Services 2005. These reports have some single valued parameters and these parameters will be provided in report viewer itself. These parameters should have "All" as default.
"Select All" comes by default in Multivalue report parameter. But for single value parameter it always shows "<Select a value>"  and if the user does not select a value,it prompts for one.I need to remove <Select Value> and show "All" as default thereby user does not have to select a value.

 

I can include "All" as a part of the select query in the parameter's datasource so that it can be shown in the parameter dropdown . However, I am not sure how I can remove "<Select a value>" from the dropdown.


Does anyone have any pointers? Thanks in advance.

Dropdown - Multi-select Won't Show Values If Only One Item Is Available
I have a report that has 2 dropdowns, selecting from the first dropdown populates the second one. This works fine in the BI Studio.

When I deploy this report to the 'Report Manager' and make a selection from the first dropdown, the second dropdown loads (as expected). I tried to select from the second dropdown (which has only 1 item - which is correct), the dropdown does not appear correctly - as in, I can't see that item.

Since we can't attach anything here, below is the link to a screenshot of my issue:

If you look closely at the screenshot from the link above, you'll see that there is a value in the second dropdown - it just won't show completely - as if the dropdown is not rendering correctly. I can view source on the page and see that the dropdown has a value.

What appears to be happening is the if only 1 item is in the second dropdown and that item is longer than the size of the dropdown, the dropdown won't render.

Here is my value for the second dropdown '012 Candy Gadler David Thapero'. This is the only value in the second dropdown. - You can try 35 chars or more in the dropdown to confirm.

Notes:
+ No special chars are in either dropdown
+ I am using IE 7 (Also had someone test this on IE 6 - same problem)
+ Using Visual Studio 2005 to build report - where this works fine

Work around:
+ If I add another item to the dropdown via a UNION query, I see the original value + the new item in the dropdown #2

Select List Contains More Items Than Insert List
I have a select list of fields that I need to select to get the results I need, however, I would like to insert only a chosen few of these fields into a table. I am getting the error, "The select list for the INSERT statement contains more items than the insert list. The number of SELECT values must match the number of INSERT columns."

Select Statement Within Select Statement Makes My Query Slow....

it produces my desired data but it takes 3 minutes to run the query... is there any way to make this faster?... thank you so much...

Multiple Tables Used In Select Statement Makes My Update Statement Not Work?
I am currently having this problem with gridview and detailview. When I drag either onto the page and set my select statement to pick from one table and then update that data through the gridview (lets say), the update works perfectly.  My problem is that the table I am pulling data from is mainly foreign keys.  So in order to hide the number values of the foreign keys, I select the string value columns from the tables that contain the primary keys.  I then use INNER JOIN in my SELECT so that I only get the data that pertains to the user I am looking to list and edit.  I run the "test query" and everything I need shows up as I want it.  I then go back to the gridview and change the fields which are foreign keys to templates.  When I edit the templates I bind the field that contains the string value of the given foreign key to the template.  This works great, because now the user will see string representation instead of the ID numbers that coinside with the string value.  So I run my webpage and everything show up as I want it to, all the data is correct and I get no errors.  I then click edit (as I have checked the "enable editing" box) and the gridview changes to edit mode.  I make my changes and then select "update."  When the page refreshes, and the gridview returns, the data is not updated and the original data is shown. I am sorry for so much typing, but I want to be as clear as possible with what I am doing.  The only thing I can see being the issue is that when I setup my SELECT and FROM to contain fields from multiple tables, the UPDATE then does not work.  When I remove all of my JOIN's and go back to foreign keys and one table the update works again.  Below is what I have for my SQL statements:------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SELECT:SELECT People.FirstName, People.LastName, People.FullName, People.PropertyID, People.InviteTypeID, People.RSVP, People.Wheelchair, Property.[House/Day Hab], InviteType.InviteTypeName FROM (InviteType INNER JOIN (Property INNER JOIN People ON Property.PropertyID = People.PropertyID) ON InviteType.InviteTypeID = People.InviteTypeID) WHERE (People.PersonID = ?)UPDATE:UPDATE [People] SET [FirstName] = ?, [LastName] = ?, [FullName] = ?, [PropertyID] = ?, [InviteTypeID] = ?, [RSVP] = ?, [Wheelchair] = ?       I want to use select statement in a CASE inside procedure.

Using Comma Seperated List Of Number S In An IN Statement
am using sql server 2005 , and am passing sql server a comma seperated list of numbers that I want to use in an IN statement
so

in the stored proc

@internal varchar(100)
(e.g @internal gets populate with '32,50')
then the statement

select count (contactid) from contacts where contactid in(@internal)

but I am getting an error

Conversion failed when converting the varchar value '32,50' to data type int.

If as an experiment I hard code the 32,50 into the sp it works fine , I have tried using CAST to no use , the field contactid is an integer , but I would have thought sql server would be ok having a comma seperated varchar to compare to an int , cant seem to find a solution , any help appreciated thanks

Select Where 'in' A List
I have done queries before where you have something like this:
 Select name
From people
Where uid in (Select UID from employees where salary > 500000)
 as an example.
I have to use stored procedures, I can't connect directly...
I have a datatable of records that I select from a database. In the database table there is a flag 'checkedOut' (bit field) wich I want to set to true (1) for each of these records.
Since I have to use stored procedures I think I am limited to passing in parameters. I wrote a function using a stringbuilder to concatonate the key fields into a comma delimited list "1, 55, 98" etc. and thought to use it as the clause in the 'in' sample ie:Update ServiceRequests set
CheckedOut = 1
Where UID in (@UIDList)

 I have tried a few different things, none works.
Any ideas how you might accomplish this with stored procedures?
The records are passed to a thread to be dealt with and it's possible the next time it runs it will pick up the same records for processing if the first thread isn't through. I needed the 'CheckedOut' to ensure I don't accidentally do that.

Help With Delete Statement/converting This Select Statement.
I have 3 tables, with this relation:
tblChats.WebsiteID = tblWebsite.ID
tblWebsite.AccountID = tblAccount.ID

I need to delete rows within tblChats where tblChats.StartTime - GETDATE() < 180 and where they are apart of @AccountID.  I have this select statement that works fine, but I am having trouble converting it to a delete statement:

SELECT * FROM tblChats c
LEFT JOIN tblWebsites sites ON sites.ID = c.WebsiteID
LEFT JOIN tblAccounts accounts on accounts.ID = sites.AccountID
WHERE accounts.ID = 16 AND GETDATE() - c.StartTime > 180

Dynamic CASE Statement Based On List Of Dates
I have the following table of data.  I need to take a date from a large table and do the following case:CASEWhen date < date(0)     Then '0'When date between date(0) and date(1)      Then '1'When date between date(1) and date(2)     Then '2'When date >= date(3)      Then '3'What I need is to be able to read all the dates the the Date table, sort then chronologically, and build the dynamic CASE statement so that the first When statement is < Date(0) and the last When statement is >= Date(Last)I hope I am making sense.  Dates will be added to the table about once a year or so and I don't want to keep going back into the sql function and rewrite it with the latest date.  Any ideas how to manipulate these dates into a case statement?  Don't worry about the second table below.  I just wanted you to see why I need to return an int from the Case function.thanksMilton

SQL Statement To Generate Customer List Whose Last Payment Date Is Jan 04

SELECT Using All Items From List
I need to create a stored procedure that takes a list of product
numbers(541, 456, CE6050,...) and selects only the customers that have
all product numbers in the list. I have a product table that has the
following schema:

rowid numeric(18,0),productNumber numeric(5,0),customerNumber numeric(5,0)

and a customer table:

customerNumber numeric(5,0),address varchar(50),contact varchar(50)

So a customer can have more than one product, but I need a select
statement that takes the product numbers and selects them against the
product table and returns only the customerNumbers that have the entire
list of product numbers. I have tried doing a join on the product list and productNumber, then join with the customer table on customerNumber, but that gets any entires found in the list not the entries that have all the product numbers.  Thanks in advance for any help.

SELECT IN List Query
I have a table that has a list of skills, ie "HP One", "HP Two"

I need to pass the these skills from my applications search page to a stored procedure, hence I have a snippet of the SP below.

DECLARE @SkillSet NVarChar (200)

The following sp does not return any results, but when i set the last line to ..

SELECT * FROM CPSkillMatrixLevels WHERE SkillMatrixLevelName IN ('HP One', 'HP Two')

It returns a set of results. Also when I do a select on the variable @SkillSet, ie SELECT @SkillSet, it displays 'HP One', 'HP Two'

Can enybody help me here, i Know i'm doing something wrong, but I cant think of what it is.

Hi, i have a big problem. I´m having trouble with the select statement in SQL query language. The problem is that I need to retrieve various data from database and the input object is a list. The simple way of doing this is:SELECT <return values>FROM <datatable name>WHERE (<select data parameter>)My problem is that my where parameter needs to be an array list. The simple way of solving the problem would be using a for statement in my c# code and call my store procedure various times, but my array list can be too long and take a long time to connect and search data for each statement, so I need to access the database once.Can anybody help; I would appreciate it very much thx, Malcolm

How To Select A Default Value From A List In A Parameter
I have a report with a dataset/parameter to select the salesperson.

In the preview mode the "All salespersons" is selected. When I deploy I see in the web user interface "<Select a Value>". The second choice is "All salespersons".

Is there a way to see "All salespersons" in the web user interface? How do I select a default value from my dataset of salespersons?

List Format Of Select Result
Hello,

As a MS SQL newbee, I may be asking stupid questions.

By default, when I run select * from atable, here is the format I get:

column1  column2
---------------------------
value11     value12
value21     value22

If the columns and the rows are too many, it is not easy to know a value belongs to which column.

What I'd like to have is a list format looks like this:

column1:value11
column2:value12
column1:value21
column2:value22

The name of the columns shouldn't be embedded in the select statement because it's changing.

Partial Duplicates And Select List
I have a table with DiscNo, Artist, Title and other fields. I would like to find all duplicate records with the same artist/title and with the first 3 characters of the discnumber. e.g.

SELECT Artist, Title Into #TempArtistTitle FROM MediaFile GROUP BY Artist, Title
HAVING COUNT(SubString(DiscNo, 0, 3)) > 1

SELECT MediaFile.DiscNo, MediaFile.Artist, MediaFile.Title FROM MediaFile RIGHT OUTER JOIN #TempArtistTitle
ON MediaFile.Title = #TempArtistTitle.Title AND MediaFile.Artist = #TempArtistTitle.Artist
ORDER BY Artist, Title, DiscNo

Drop TABLE #TempArtistTitle
GO

See, if the first 3 characters of the disc number is the same, it is the same manufacturer. This query works somewhat, although it returns records that the discnumber is unique too. Like below, the LG disc number shouldn't be returned, as there is only one record for that artist/title.

Delete Statement For A List Of Items With Multiple Columns Identifying Primary Key
I frequently have the problem where I have a list of items to delete ina temp table, such asProjectId Description------------- ----------------1 test12 test43 test34 test2And I want to delete all those items from another table.. What is thebest way to do that? If I use two IN clauses it will do it where itmatches anything in both, not the exact combination of the two. I can'tdo joins in a delete clause like an update, so how is this typicallyhandled?The only way I can see so far to get around it is to concatenate thecolumns like CAST(ProjectId as varchar) + '-' + Description and do anIN clause on that which is pretty nasty.Any better way?
