says I need to service pack it right away, but before it gets started
it comes up with the error 'sqlcu.dll failed to load'. Anyone know

Any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Syntax Error Or Access Violation

Apr 17, 2008

Hi guys! I am using SQL 2005 and I wonder why I am encountering the error "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Syntax error or access violation" everytime I am trying to create stored procedure with temp table and table variable.
See my code below with temp table.

Any thoughts will be appreciated!

Setup Init Error When Installing SQL Server 2k Enterprise, Plz Help

Feb 12, 2004

hi,

i'm running win2k sp4 on a 2.4Ghz P4 with 512M ram and 1.5 gigs freespace on my harddrive (more than enough for the sql server client).

i insert the cd and start up the installer. i then get the splash screen, click on "SQL Server 2000 Components", then on "Install Database Server". Then the splash screen disappears and nothing happens for a while (sometimes a really long while). Then an error message pops up saying:

Setup initialization error.
<some message>

Source: 'E:<some source>'
Target: 'C:WINNTTEMPSqlSetup<some target>'

where <some message> is a differing message. sometimes it's "The data is invalid", sometimes a cycle redundancy check error, sometimes a inpage error...

<some source> is one of the files on the sql server cd, and this also differs most of the time.
<some target> is the corresponding <some source> in the sql server setup's temp dir.

as well, if i restart my computer and try starting the installer after windows has started up (well, at least all of the sys tray icons have loaded) i usually get an error message saying something about "msetup" having an error and being shut down. it also mentions that there is some log file which is created, but i'm not sure where it's located or what it's called.

i have also noticed that some process called " wowexec.exe" is starts up when the installer does, and keeps running after the installer (setupsql.exe) crashes. i am also unable to end the " wowexec.exe" process and process tree.

i don't think there's anything wrong with the cd, since it looks like it works file on other pc's. any idea what may be wrong?

i would really appreciate any help in fixing this. i really need to get the sql server 2k client installed (particularly the enterprise manager).

MDAC 2.8 Fatal Setup Error. This Setup Does Not Support Installing On This Operating System

Jan 5, 2006

I have XP Pro SP2 with MDAC 2.8.1022.  It had a problem so I tried to reinstall MDAC and got a Fatal Setup Error. This setup does not support installing on this operating system. I downloaded MDAC 2.8 1177 and get the same error.

I thought of uninstalling/reinstalling SP2, but this is a 2 month old Dell Latitude 610 with factory installed XP.  There is no Windows Service Pack 2 option listed in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

There's some other strange things, so I wonder if they are related.

1) I have Paul set up as an administrator account.  Some folders like MSSQL show that account with no permissions.  I grant all the permissions to Paul for that folder.  I come back later and the permissions are gone.

2) I deleted 20 files in Explorer, but 7 of them did not go away. I deleted those 7 again and they instatnly reappeared.  I deleted those 7 again and then they finally went away.

3) I get a slow reaction time for things like Windows Explorer and opening and closing programs. This is suprising since it has 2 gig of RAM and 2.3 Gig processor. Could it be a memory handling problem that's causing OS problems. Probably, the memory didn't handle the OS installation well and the whole system is compromised now.

Execute SQL Task: Executing The Query Exec (?) Failed With The Following Error: Syntax Error Or Access Violation. Possible F

Jan 23, 2008

Hi,
I'm having an SSIS package which gives the following error when executed :

Error: 0xC002F210 at Create Linked Server, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "exec (?)" failed with the following error: "Syntax error or access violation". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.Task failed: Create Linked Server

The package has a single Execute SQL task with the properties listed below :

General Properties
Result Set : None

ConnectionType : OLEDB
Connection : Connected to a Local Database (DB1)
SQLSourceType : Direct Input
SQL Statement : exec(?)
IsQueryStorePro : False
BypassPrepare : False

Parameter Mapping Properties

variableName Direction DataType ParameterName

User::AddLinkSql Input Varchar 0

'AddLinkSql' is a global variable of package scope of type string with the value
Exec sp_AddLinkedServer 'Srv1','','SQLOLEDB.1',@DataSrc='localhost',@catalog ='DB1'

When I try to execute the Query task, it fails with the above error. Also, the above the sql statement cannot be parsed and gives error "The query failed to parse. Syntax or access violation"

I would like to add that the above package was migrated from DTS, where it runs without any error, eventhough
it gives the same parse error message.

I would appreciate if anybody can help me out of this issue by suggeting where the problem is.

Thanks in Advance.

Installing SQL Server 2005 Management Tools - Setup Crashing Repeatedly

Mar 18, 2008

I'm having many many issues installing sql server management tools. i had visual studio 2005 installed first, but uninstalled and sql related things before trying to install sql server management tools again - i also deleted the program files/microsoft sql server/ folder so there are no references.

Firstly the system configuration check gives me a warning that the system doesn't meet the recommended hardware requirements - this is wrong... i've got 2.33Ghz dual core + 1gb of ram...

I select just management tools + client connectivity to install and click next -> the setup support files/native client/owc11 etc all install fine but workstation components etc fail and the setup log appears to either be empty and not available
and MSXML6 fails... after clicking finish the installer appears to crash - : "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"... I have tried all sorts of variations on this install and have had no problems in the past - please help!

The setup log from the MSXML6 failure -

SQL Server Security Setup For Web Application Access

Jun 6, 2007

All:

I am writing an Internet/Extranet based (ASP.Net 2.0) web application that uses SQL server 2005 as the database. I am using forms authentication on my web application. I am also storing the connection string to SQL server in my web config file. The conn string is encrypted using DPAPI with entropy. I currently have created a SQL login account on my SQL server for use by the web application. This is the user ID I am using in my conn string. The reason for this is because all persons using the application will NOT have a windows login.

Here is my question: The login I created currently has defaulted to the "dbo" role and therefore has "dbo" rights to the database. I want to setup up this login account so that all it can do is execute stored procedures. I dont want this SQL login to be able to do anything else. In my application I am using stored procedures for ALL data access functions, via a data access layer in my application. Can someone guide me step by step as to how to setup this type of access for this SQL login.

Thanks,

Blue.

I have installed SQL Server 2005 SP2. When I try to install the replication

or higher or the SQL Server 2005 Replication Components" and the client components are full instaled in my computer.

I need help for detect and correct the problem.

Nov 17, 2007

Here is my situation: I am creating a database driven ASP.Net web application that will be used over the internet. My ASP.Net application connects to my SQL server 2005 database/server by using a SQL server login. I am using the DPAPI API to encrypt my connection stings with a hidden entropy value for extra security. I am using the SQL login for obvious reasons, as my users will not have a windows login.

What I am trying to do: I want to limit this SQL login account to be able to just run/execute stored procedures and NOT access the tables or views directly. In my ASP.Net application I am using the MS applications data block, and I am using stored procedures for every single database access action. There is no inline SQL being executed from my web application.

What I have tried so far:

I created a new schema and made the above SQL login account owner of this schema. I then granted "Execute" permissions to the SQL login and DENY permissions to all other permissions.

I created an database role with "Execute" only permissions and DENY permissions to all other permissions.

What Happened: In BOTH of the above scenarios I tested a direct SQL statement against one of my tables, from my ASP.Net application and I was able retrieve data back, NOT GOOD, exactly what I am trying to STOP.

If someone could give me (Step-by-Step) guide on how to setup the situation I am looking for, I would be very grateful!

Thanks to all that help!

A Transport-level Error Has Occurred When Receiving Results From The Server. - After Installing New Instance Of SQL Server 2005 W/NO App Changes

Sep 27, 2006

We've devoted a resource to this today, but I have to believe it's something easy that we're overlooking.  The scneario is that we have a production Web application that until last weekend had a SQL 2000 back end.  This weekend we installed a new instance of SQL 2005 and everything works (we tested in a sandbox environment, but someone must not have load tested enough) and never saw these exceptions.   So, after the upgrade we now receive 100's of thexe SQL excptions per day:A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)Does anyone know what we've overlooked that's causing this issue?Thanks for any help!

Windows App Cannot Access Database When Silently Installing SQL Server Express 05

Jul 6, 2007

I have a windows app I am deploying by CD along with SQL Server - when I manually installed sql server my app can access the db (named instance, local system, mixed mode). I used the exact same settings to do an unattended install for sql express and it does not work. All the settings in the db look the same. Does anyone know what it could be?

Thanks.

I Cannot Get The SQL Server 2005 Roles, Schemas, Users Correctly Setup For Proper Access

May 16, 2008

I have been struggling with this for a while and cannot get it right. I have read countless articles on the internet as well as MSDN documentation about SQL Server 2005 and no success so far.

What I want is a database with multiple SCHEMAS, DATABASE ROLES and USERS in order to have a finer grade of security to access the various objects.

My schemas are (in order to simplify the situation and provide an example of the setup):

- [dbo] the standard DBO schema which is always default. Contains public objects.
- [com] a special module integrated into the system
- [ofc] contains objects used by back-office only
- [aud] contains objects used for auditing, etc.

Each of these schemas has their fair share of tables, views, functions and stored procedures which have been created appropriately (i.e. CREATE TABLE [ofc].[Addresses]), in other words prefixed by the name of the schema to which they belong.

Then I have created various database roles (don't confuse them with SQL2005 application roles) as follows:

- PublicRole mostly used for viewing, no data alterations
- WorkerRole used by front end processes that need write access to data in [dbo] and [aud]
- OfficeRole used by back-office for dealing with backoffice data (basically [ofc], [aud] stuff)
- AdminRole used by application administrator

Each of these database roles has been defined with owner 'dbo', none of them own any schemas. And last but not least to each of these roles I have selected the above named schemas (dbo, ofc, aud) as securables and for each of those securables schemas I have then given the correct set of GRANT/DENY on the Alter, Control, Delete, Execute, Insert, References, Select, Update, Take ownership and View definition.

As an example, the PublicRole role has been given the following permissions (Y=GRANT, N=DENY):

Table #1 of Application Permissions [dbo] [com] [ofc] [aud]Alter N N N N
Control N N N N Delete N N N N Execute Y Y N Y Insert N N N Y References Y Y N Y Select Y Y N Y Update N N N Y Take ownership N N N N View definition N N N N

And I have the following minimum set of database users defined (the server login has the same name):

- upublic, assigned to PublicRole
- uworker, assigned to WorkerRole
- uoffice, assigned to OfficeRole
- uadmin, assigned to AdminRole

As I understand when I assign these users to a particular custom Database Role, the users inherit the permissions granted to THAT role thus liberating me from having to assign the permissions to each and every user account on the same role.

What I expected was that when I logged in to the database with the upublic user account I would at least be able to view (SELECT at least) ALL the objects with the exception of those in th e[ofc] schema. Unfortunately the account is not able to access ANYTHING at all, I get an error like

"The SELECT permission has been denied on object XYZ, database DB, schema 'dbo'"

So, when I use Management Studio to look at the properties I selected the PublicRole and it showed the upublic user as a member of the role (Members of this role). So far so good.

Then when I switch to the Securables page for this role it shows all the schemas I defined and for each of them the same list shown in Table #1 except it has two lines for each permission, the first for Grantor dbo and the second for Grantor upublic. The first has the same permissions I assigned to the role (as shown on Table #1) but the 2nd does not show a checkmark on either GRANT or DENY!!! For example ([x] = checked, [ ] unchecked):

Table #2 Explicit permissions for Securable
Permission Grantor Grant Grant-with Deny
Select dbo [x] [ ] [ ] Select upublic [ ] [ ] [ ]

What am I doing wrong here? Apparently I then have to repeat the whole grant/deny for EACH and EVERY USER I define when the idea was that I would grant/deny on the database role and every member of that role would inherit those permissions automatically.

SQL SERVER 2005 SETUP ERROR

Apr 20, 2007

Hi all,

I'm new in this forum and id'like to post a strange error i can't solve by myself.

On a Win2003Server setted as a Stand Alone Server (without Active Directory) i installed my SQL SEERVER 2005 Workgroup edition with Management Studio and ODBC: Everything fine. a software house installed a IRP based on SQL Server: everything fine too.

They asked me to buil Dctive Directory on server. I should uninstall SQL Server, build up the AD domain and then reinstall SQL Server and from SQL Management Studio reconnect all the db.

Ok with uninstall operations, ok with AD setup but when i tryed to setup Sql Server 2005 it starts fine the DB engine but during management component setup i receive this error:

Linked Server Setup Error

Nov 6, 2007

I'm trying to link my local SQL 2005 with a remote oracle database. I have downloaded the oracle 10g client. It seems the client installed a data source driver for me to use (Oracle in OraDb10g_home2). I created a new data source named 'Company' which I have successfully connecting using that driver.

The following is the script I'm using to create my linked server:

USE master

GO

sp_addlinkedserver

@server = 'Company',

@provider = 'OraOLEDB.Oracle',

@srvproduct = 'oracle',

@datasrc = 'Company'

GO

sp_addlinkedsrvlogin

@rmtsrvname = 'Company',

@useself = 'false',

@rmtuser = 'Company1',

@rmtpassword = 'MyPassword'

These both execute successfully.

Then when I go to make a select call:

SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(Company, 'SELECT * FROM CAMPUS')

I get the following error:

Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "Company" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.

Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "Company".

I think my proplem may be that this provider does not match with my data source.... Any ideas?
