Can SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Coexist With SQL Server 2000 Enterprise?
Not sure if this was posted but having a hard time finding an answer.
I'm currently running sql server 2000 enterprise edition on my machine and was wondering what would happen if i installed 2005 express edition and vice versa? I've found many blogs and post about compatibility issues with the 2005 Express Beta version but couldn't find any news with full version. It would be much appreciated if someone can help me out with this problem.
Thanks!

Can SQL Server 2005 Express And MSDE CoExist?
I read in the installation requirements document for SQL Server 2005 Express the section on upgrading MSDE to SQL Server 2005 Express. The section indicated that if MSDE is installed via an application installation, that application will have to be uninstalled to remove MSDE. This leads to my question. The small application I'm looking into developing will require SQL Server 2005 Express. What if a customer is using an application that installed MSDE? Can the two products coexist without problems? Thanks!!

Upsizing Access 2000 DB To SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
Hi I have an Access 2000 Database which I am upsizing to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The Database has 29 tables and 60 stored queries. Each time I upsize to SQL Server the tables come in fine but non of the queries are imported. All of the queries are very simple Select, Insert, Update and Delete Queries with nothing special in them. I have tried using the upsizing wizard in Access 2003 and also the SQL Server 2005 Migration Assistant for Access. Is there anything special I need to do in the migration assistant to ensure that the queries are imported as well. Cheers Redav

Problem Migrating Application Database From SQL Server 2000 To Express Edition 2005
Hi there I am new to SQL Server, but the current project that I am working on has the following requirement:- 1) Migrate the application (a servlet based web application on Apache Tomcat) from Solaris to Wintel 2) Migrate the supporting database from SQL Server 2000 to Sql Server 2005 3) Get IIS to communicate with Tomcat for serving servlet/jsp etc to the client Though I successfully completed item 1 above, am stuck at item 2. Details are below Actions taken for item 2 A. Installed MS 2005 B. Created new database in MS 2005 (logged in as user 'sa') C. Generated SQL scripts (such as create table table_A etc) from existing MS 2000 D. Genearted SQL scripts (such as insert into table_A etc) from existing MS 2000 E. Created new schema in MS 2005 F. Ran scripts C & D in the new schema. All tables are records populated. G. Obtained new JDBC driver and test run to see if connection is working fine, and it worked. Even ran an sql statment Code Block[select count(*) from sa.table_A] and got appropriate response. H. When I made the application to talk to this new database (which is a copy of Production from step C, D above), it's behaving as though it cannot find the record. I. When I further debugged, I realised that the web application is excuting queries without mentioning the schema. For eg. Code Block[Select firstName, lastName from table_A] Or rather it assumes that the user connecting to database is same as the schema name. J. To further ascertain my point, I ran the query Code Block[Select firstName, lastName from sa.table_A] and it worked! Now the real problem is that I cannot modify the existing code to append a schema name and this approach is rather not recommended best practise. I tried to match the user name with the schema name, even made this schema as default to the user. But still not finding any luck. I request all you experts out there to help me out with this problem. Regards, prad.nair

Performance Difference Between SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition And Enterprise Edition
Dear All,We have a database which contains many tables which have millions ofrecords. When We attach the database with MS SQL Server 2005 StandardEdition Server and run some queries (having joins, filters etc.) thenthey take very long time to execute while when We execute same querieson Enterprise Edition then they run 10 times faster than on standardedition. Our database does not use any features which are present in EnterpriseEdition and not present in Standard Edition. We want to know what arethe differences between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition forperformance. Why should we go for Enterprise Edition when StandardEdition has all the features required. We are presently using evaluation versions of SQL Server 2005 Standardand Enterprise Editions. Thanks and regards,Nishant Sainihttp://www.simplyjava.com

Windows CE 5 Device With SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Sync With SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
I have: A server computer running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. A industrial computer running SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. And now also a Psion WorkAboutPro with CE 5 that should run SQL Server Compact Edition. The industrial computer syncs its data with the server, basically saying "this has happened". Now I want the Psion to sync with the industrial computer, but this sync must two-way. I have tried to find a guide or something that can tell me "do this to sync" but the information i have found is sketchy at best. If someone could point me in the right direction of a guide or something else it would be much appreciated. Regards, Björn

Change From Developer Edition To Enterprise Edition Of SQL Server 2005 64 Bit
We have an existing installation of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (64bit) that we are ready to go live with and would like to change the edition to Enterprise Edition (64bit). We have purchased all the appropriate licenses. We would like to avoid UN-installing the Developer Edition and RE-installing the Enterprise Edition. There must be some way to change a registry key, provide your serial number via a command line utility or re-run the setup with the license key provided and direct it to just change the edition from Developer to Enterprise and not change any of the other settings like service account, sa account, collation, etc. Any help is most appreciated. Thank you, Matt

Replicating From SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition To Remote SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
Hello, I have been unable to create a replication from an SQL Server 2005 standard edition database to remote SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The remote express edition is on a Virtual Private Server we are leasing from a hosting company. The name of the remote DB is similar to vs572.si-vs572.com. I can connect to this with SQL server authentication through Management Studio and also with SSIS. But, I have been unable to create a push subscription (I have tried a test push subscription with the same publication to a local SQL Express server here in our office and this works fine). Here is the error message: SQL Server Replication requires the actual server name to make a connection to the server. Connections through server alias, IP address, or any other alternate name are not supported. Specify the actual server name, 'VS572SQLEXPRESS'. The hosting company had originally installed a shared SQL server which would not support replication. They then installed SQL Express edition and I was hoping this would allow us to run a replication. I tried to connect to VS572SQLEXPRESS with out any luck. I check the remote connections, made sure replication was installed, etc., but no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Albert

Migration From SQL 2000 Enterprise Server To The SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (64 Bit-Itanium Server)
We are migration few database from SQL 2000 Enterprise Server to the SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (64 bit-Itanium Server) Problem : - The performance difference observer was not much (Just 15-18%) - The CPU Utilization goes to 100% immediately, when the software login screen appears and it sustains in between 90% to 100% - Multi-User Access (3 or more concurrent users), the sql performance is tremendously slow. Steps followed for Migration: - We have used the backup and restore method to migrate the data from SQL 2000 Enterprise Server to the SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (64 bit-Itanium Server). - We ran the DBCC DBREINDEX for each affected tables - We executed the sp_updatestats procedure for all the tables - Upgraded the DB compatibility version to 90 - Installed the SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (64 bit-Itanium Server) Service pack 2. One thing that we observed, was the memory usage, on SQL 2000 the sqlservr.exe uses around 1.5 GB where as on the SQL 2005 its just 120 MB. A normal select query on 2000 Server took 11-12 sec, having 10 lac records, and the same query on 2005 took 1 min (3-5 sec CPU process taken by sqlservr and rest by the Sever Management Studio. The only differance noted was that on 2000 the entire data was displayed at one go where as in 2005 the data was displayed at the 1st sec, and was filling the rest in the buffer, and to finally display entire data it took 1 min. Also when we run this query select * from sys.dm_os_sys_info one column os_priority_class shows a value = 32 ? what does this means. In the MSSQLSERVER SERVICES, properties, there is a parameter displaying value Advanced > Running Under 64 bit OS = No ? what does this means. Could anyone pls suggest as to how to increase the sqlservr.exe memory area, and also how the enhance the performance.

Change Sql Server 2000 Enterprise To Standard Edition
Hi, One of our main servers running on SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition which has transactional replications on it which replicates to other servers running on the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition as well. Due to Hardware problems the server is being migrated to a new machine but the client has installed SQL Server 2000 standard edition on the new machine. We will be using a two processor cpu with 4GB RAM and we are also not planning about clustering. Is there any problem if i migrate the server in Standard Edition will the replications work properly between Standard and Enterprise editions. What other complications can be there if i switch over to standard edition from enterprise edition Thanks in ADVANCE Jacx

The only OLEDB Provider is for M.Access. Is this correct? if so, what should i do if i want to connect SQL Server 2005 express edition with VB2005 express edition by using OLEDB connection type? I really appreciate any respond from you guys.. Thank's and waiting for the good news.. Best regards, VITRELLE

SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
Working on some performance issues at the database end, our team observed, that the query execution done by SQL Server 2005 was done by using only one processor in our application. The stored procedures are written in T-SQL and have a dedicated Database Server, running SQL Server 2005. Our tests lead to the following observations; SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition was executing stored procedures using only 1 processor, when it is a multiple processor Server. Apart from this the stored procedure execution is very linear. We would like to have your suggestions on the same. Regards, Girish
