Error Converting Data Type Nvarchar To Datetime
Hi, I'm pretty desperat after trying solving the above problem in several days. I hope somone here can help me :-) I have this stored procedure. When I try to Execute the storedprocedure where I have a date as parameter I get the above error. I checked (many times), that the input parameter is a datetime format (30-05-2008) and also I checked the tabel and it is datetime format. I checked the table to see if it was english datetime format - but all the datetimes that are listet are listed in danish datetime format DD-MM-YYYY. In the stored procedure I try this: fProjectSkuTimeStamp >= @ReducedTime I can't figure out where it gets that nvarchar from? My stored procedure look like this: set ANSI_NULLS ON set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON set NOCOUNT ON go ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[GetProjectSkuList] @fProjectFId AS INTEGER = null, --ProjektId @ReducedTime AS DATETIME --Tidsrum fra AS BEGIN SELECT tProjectSku.fProjectSkuPId, tProjectSku.fCompanyFId, tProjectSku.fProjectFId, tProjectSku.fProjectSkuDate, tProjectSku.fOurContactFId, tProjectSku.fOurContactF2Id, tProjectSku.fOrderFId, tProjectSku.fProjectSkuTimeStamp, tProjectSku.fProjectSkuNote1, tProjectSku.fProjectSkuNote2, tProjectSku.fContactFId, tProjectSku.fStoreTransactionsFId, tProjectSku.fProjectSkuSalesPrice, tCompany.fCompanyName, tProject.fProjectName, tOurContact.fOurContactFirstName + ' ' + tOurContact.fOurContactLastName AS CreatedBy, tOurContact_1.fOurContactFirstName + ' ' + tOurContact_1.fOurContactLastName AS Responsible, tContact.fContactFirstName + ' ' + tContact.fContactLastName AS ContactFullName, tStoreTransactions.fStoreTransactionsCostPrice, tStoreTransactions.fStoreTransactionsSerialNo FROM tOurContact AS tOurContact_1 RIGHT OUTER JOIN tContact RIGHT OUTER JOIN tProjectSku LEFT OUTER JOIN tStoreTransactions ON tProjectSku.fStoreTransactionsFId = tStoreTransactions.fStoreTransactionsPId ON tContact.fContactPId = tProjectSku.fContactFId LEFT OUTER JOIN tOrder ON tProjectSku.fOrderFId = tOrder.fOrderPId ON tOurContact_1.fOurContactPId = tProjectSku.fOurContactF2Id LEFT OUTER JOIN tOurContact ON tProjectSku.fOurContactFId = tOurContact.fOurContactPId LEFT OUTER JOIN tProject ON tProjectSku.fProjectFId = tProject.fProjectPId LEFT OUTER JOIN tCompany ON tProjectSku.fCompanyFId = tCompany.fCompanyPId WHERE (tProjectSku.fProjectFId = @fProjectFId) AND --fProjectSkuTimeStamp >= CONVERT(datetime, @ReducedTime, 120) fProjectSkuTimeStamp >= @ReducedTime ORDER BY tProjectSku.fProjectSkuPId DESC END Kind regards, simsen :-)

Strange Datetime Conversion Error In Stored Procedure.
Hi Everyone,I've been battling this for two days with no luck. I'm using SQLServer 2000.Here's the mystery: I've got a stored procedure that takes a singlevarchar parameter to determine how the result set is sorted. Here itis:CREATE PROCEDURE spDemo @SortField varchar(30)ASSELECT dtmTimeStamp, strEmpName, strOld, strNew, strActionDescFROM ActivityLogORDER BY CASE @SortFieldWHEN 'dtmTimeStamp' THEN dtmTimeStampWHEN 'strEmpName' THEN strEmpNameWHEN 'strOld' THEN strOldWHEN 'strNew' THEN strNewWHEN 'strActionDesc' THEN strActionDescENDGOWhen I execute the stored procedure in the Query Analyzer, it worksperfectly ONLY IF the @SortField parameter is 'dtmTimeStamp' or'strNew'. When passing in any of the other three possible values for@SortField, I get the following error:Server: Msg 241, Level 16, State 1, Procedure spDemo, Line 4Syntax error converting datetime from character string. Now instead of executing the stored procedure, if I copy and paste theSELECT statement directly into the Query Analyzer (after removing theCASE statement and manually trying each different value of @SortField),it works fine for all five possible values of SortField.Even though the error points to Line 4 of the stored procedure, itseems to me that the CASE statement is causing problems for some, butnot all, values of the @SortField parameter.Any ideas? Thanks,Jimmy

Conversion From Varchar To Nvarchar
Hi, Can someone please explain to me how the datapages in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 works. The pages are supposed to be 8K, that is 8192 bytes of which only 8060 are accessible for data storage (due to overhead). Now, I currently have a table containing 8 fields. Two of these fields are varchar and should be converted to nvarchar. One of the varchar fields is limited to 255 characters and the other to 4000 characters. When I convert the 255 characters field to nvarchar it works just fine, but when I want to convert the 4000 characters field I get an error from MS SQL saying that it gets to big. Is the error only for the 4000 characters field (which growths to 8000 bytes when using nvarchar instead of varchar) or must the whole table fit into one datapage? Could a blob maybe solve my problem, or will I face new problems when storing unicode characters in a blob? Thanks in advance

Conversion Failed When Converting The Nvarchar...
One of my clients decided to put letters into their customers' account numbers. They have a numbering scheme where all temporary accounts have a letter in the account OR are numbered greater than 33000, and all permanent accounts are all digits and less than or equal to 33000. all primary accounts have a NumberSuffix of 000. Now i am tasked with retrieving all primary, non-temp accounts. I cannot simply do WHERE Number <= 33000 because when it gets to an account containing a letter like "00A01", it craps out and says "Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '00A01' to data type int." So decided to run a filtering query first to filter out all accounts with letters, and then from that dataset select all accounts <=33000. WITH members (FirstName, LastName, Number, NumberSuffix) AS ( SELECT dbo.Entity.FirstName, dbo.Entity.LastName, dbo.Entity.Number, dbo.Entity.NumberSuffix FROM dbo.Entity WHERE NumberSuffix = 000 AND Number NOT LIKE '%A%' AND Number NOT LIKE '%B%' AND Number NOT LIKE '%C%' AND Number NOT LIKE '%D%' AND Number NOT LIKE '%E%' AND Number NOT LIKE '%F%' AND Number NOT LIKE '%G%' AND Number NOT LIKE '%H%' AND Number NOT LIKE '%I%' AND Number NOT LIKE '%J%' ) SELECT * FROM members WHERE Number <= 33000 ORDER BY Number when i do this, i get the same error for some reason. Yet when i execute this at the end instead: SELECT * FROM members WHERE Number LIKE '%A%' ORDER BY Number i get an empty set (meaning it actually does get filtered). but somehow it still able to participate in a range comparison? WHY?? thanks, Leon

Conversion Failed When Converting The Nvarchar Value To Datatype Int

Note I had the same issue after restoring the production database on my local server SQL2000->SQL2000. The problem was solved by restoring master and msdb from the production. But I can't do this on the SQL2005. This is not a collation issue as I have ensured collation is the same on all databases including the system ones. Modify A Column From Nvarchar(50) To A DateTime
Hello, I have a column that is a currently set as nvarchar(50) and is called DateEmployed. There are over a hundred rows that contain dates which is in nvarchar format. This column now needs to be changed to a DateTime datatype. (Don't ask me it was not set to a dateTime when this was first designed - I wasn't here) However, I have to change this column to a DateTime without destroying the data. Is there any easy way to write some script or use studio management to change this. Currently the data is displayed like this in this column dd/MM/yyyy i.e. 25/8/2007. The method I am using to try and change this is by going to studio management clicking modify on the column and changing the datatype from a nvarchar(50) to a DateTime. I get this following error message: - Unable to modify table. Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type datetime. The statement has been terminated. Any suggestions would be most grateful, Thanks, Steve

DT_DBTIME To DateTime Conversion
I have a column of DT_DBTIME data type in my Flat File source. This column is mapped to DateTime column in the SQL server destination table. A problem is that time values '12:06:39' and '13:37:45' are converted to the dates '12/30/1899 12:06:39 PM' and '12/30/1899 1:37:45 PM' correspondingly. When I try the similar conversion from the inside Server Management Studio : SELECT CAST('12:06:39' as DateTime), CAST('13:37:45' as DateTime) I get the following results: '1900-01-01 12:06:39.000' and '1900-01-01 13:37:45.000' As you can see, the date portion is different and I expect that January 1st, 1900 is correct for this conversion. So, my questions are: 1. Why I have "previous" day in the Integration Services transformation? 2. How to fix this problem? Thank you, Vlad

Datetime Conversion Problem
I have a client that records qa data in minute intervals. They like to look at the data in various ways (e.g. 15 minute intervals, x minutes after a shift starts, etc.) The code below groups data into different time periods. For example, data collected in one minute intervals can be converted into 15 minute intervals. The intervals start from a specified start time. For example, a shift may start a 08:00 but they want to look at 15 minute intervals starting at 08:20 after everybody has settled in. Unfortunately, it only works some of the time; different intervals work better than others. Five minutes looks good but 15 and 25 minute intervals mess up when there are missing datetime datapoints (i.e. when a group ends at a missing datetime data point it puts in a wrong value). In sample source data below, 10:50:00 and 10:51:00 are missing. In the result table 10:58:00 should be 10:50:00 (even tho it is missing from the source). BTW, the data values are correct regarding start, end, min, and max values; only datetime is incorrect. The problem is probably coming from the CASE statements in the sample below. Can anybody help? String To Datetime Conversion
Hi, Ive imported a data set into SQL. Now on redefining a text field to datetime, most dates that are filled come through okay. The issue is that there are some empty fields which I'd like for it to stay empty after conversion. Now what happens is that the empty field becomes '01/01/1900' - which is throwing off our queries as we need it to be compared to other date fields. Is there a way to keep it empty even after the datatype is changed to datetime? Thanks a bunch!
