Dont Think Discretization Function Is Necessary On The Analysis Service Server In SQL Server 2005
Hi, all here,
I am just wondering about the Discretization function available on analysis service server (which can not actually discretize data into user-defined expressions) . Isnt it redundant ? I mean since users can discretize their data more meaningfully based on their own expressions in database engine of SQL Server 2005.

Can I Install A Enterprise Version Analysis Service On A Standard Version Of SQL 2005 Server?
Hi all, Since some analysis services features are only available in Enterprise version , I have to upgrade my SQL 2005 server from standard edition to enterpise edition. So I uninstall originial standard version of analysis service and install a Enterprise version. However, the analysis service is still a standard version after installation. Is it possible to keep data engine as standard version and install a enterprise version of analysis service? Thank you very much Tony

SQL Server Analysis Service
I am trying to install Analysis Service on a server that has SQL Server 2000 SP 3a as well as IIS installed on the server. The SQL Server database is about 36 GB in size. When I try the install for Analysis Service it starts up normally with the screen that allows you to select either a SQL Server install or an Analysis Service install. I select Analysis Service. I get the screen that the install is collecting information about the system and the status bar goes to 100 %. After that completes the screen goes to a normal desktop screen and nothing else happens. Is there something that I am doing wrong or has anyone else had this problem. If so, how was the problem fixed. I am very confused as I can install Analysis Service on any other server but this one. Thanks for any help that anyone can give me. Phil

OLAP Server Or SQL Analysis Service
Hi I am new to SQL Server and not quite understand the difference between OLAP server or SQL Analysis Service. Are they referring to the same thing?? An user asked me to confirm that the OLAP server is active on a server running SQL Server 2005, what do I need to check. The Analysis service is up and running, does it mean it is OK?? Please advise. Unable To Connect To Analysis Service Using HTTP On A Different Server
Hi all, This one has really stumped me! I set up HTTP to connect to an Analysis Services cube within an ASP .NEt application. On inititial setup it worked well and I was able to connect and view the data in my ASP application. However, for NO reason that I can see it is now coming up with the following error: Either a connection cannot be made to the localhost server, or Analysis Services is not running on the computer specified. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Either a connection cannot be made to the localhost server, or Analysis Services is not running on the computer specified. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it but can't get it to work. I have even gone through the technet document titled "Resolving Common Connectivity Issues in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services Connectivity Scenarios" but it hasn't helped. I am using SQL Server (Analysis Services) 2005 and ASP .NET 2.0. The application is developed in VS 2005. I'm at a loss...can you help? Cheers in advance!

I have installed an SQL 2005 Failover Cluster on a Two Node Active Passive Windows 2003 Cluster.If i am trying to failover from the Active node to the passive Node,The Sql Server,Sql Server Agent and SQL Analysis resources fail,However if i reset the passowrd in the services tab of the above three services on the pasive node,the resources come online. Below is the brief of my setup 1.I have two Active directory domain controllers running Windows 2003 R2 Standard edition with SP2. 2.i have installed a Windows 2003 Two Node Active Passive Cluster as NODE1 and NODE2. 3.The Domain account used to install WIndows 2003 A/P Cluster is Clusteradmin.This account is the member of Administartors on the Domain as well as the Local Admin on NODE1 and NODE2. 4.SQL 2005 with SP2 is installed on both the Nodes as SQL 2005 Failover Cluster.The account used to install SQL 2005 is sqadmin.This account is the member of Administartors on the domain and the member of Local Admins on NODE1 and NODE2. 5.SLQ 2005 has four domain groups for 4 SQL Services.The Services are SQL Server,SQL Server Agent,SLQ Anaylisis Server and Full text Search. 6.Each of these servcie has a seperate service account created for them.All these service accounts areb the members of domain admin and the member of Local Admin on NODE1 and NODE2. 7.Each of these servcies is running under these servcie accounts in the Servcies tab in NODE1 and NODE2. 8.If i fail the resources from NODE1 to NODE2 ,The SQL Server,SQL Server Agent and SQL Anaylisis resources are failing.on going to the service tab of NODE 2 I reset the password for these services,the services come online. 10.The Cluster resources and MSDTC Resources are Failing over successfully.They are coming online successfully. 11,I have a problem with the SQL Server Resources,even if i failback to NODE1 from NODE2,the same resources are failing again. Hi, I am trying to migrate OLAP Cubes from Analsysis Services in SQL Server 2000 version 8.00 to SQL Server 2005. I installed SQL Server 2005 as a named instance "SQL2005" . I then invoked the MigrationWizard.exe , where i gave the following Source Server - <My Server Name> Destination Server - <My Server Name>SQL2005 When i click Next i get the error when it tries to connect to destination server.The error msg is "Destination server: A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running" When i give the Destination Server as <My Server Name> i get the following error msg "Destination server: A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running" When i try to connect to Analysis Services from SQL Server Management Studio i get the following error TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to MISOM131. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient) ------------------------------ No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it (System) ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ Kindly let me know what i should do . &"Pivot&" Function Or Analysis Service For SS2K??
I am relatively new to SQL-Server. I was working in a company that used SS2005. Now I am with a company and client where SS2K is my only option. I know SS2005 had Analysis Services which allowed building hypercubes but I never got the chance to learn about it or use it. I am not that familiar with what SS2K has. I have no access to any OLAP tools. I have MS-Access and MS-Excel. My SQL-Server database has to crunch a table with thousands of rows. Having worked with MS-Access and MS-Excel for a long time, I know how powerful creating a pivot table is. I heard that SQL2005 had a T-SQL PIVOT function but never had the opportunity to use it. Know I have the need to do this in SQL2000. I have a lot of data so the method shown in BOL for cross-tab won't help me. The client changes the "column" and "header" categories on a regular basis, so I need something that will allow me to NOT hard code them but choose them dynamically like one would do in a hypercube. I have more than 5 categories for "row headers". I have currency for the data to aggregate. I have "pay periods" (26 of them) for my "column" headers, but not all 26 will be present until Dec 31, so that part has to be dynamic. Question: Is there any feature in the standard S2K that allows one to create anything like a pivot table without massive coding (T-SQL function or technique or something like a hypercube ability)? Can you point me to something on the web that would explain how to get started? Many thanks ahead of time from a newbie!

SQL 2005 Analysis Service Clustering And Majority Node Set
Hi, I am trying to set up a SQL 2005 analysis server cluster in our two servers, AS02 and AS04. The server cluster is built up on Majority Node Set (MNS). During the installation of the analysis service, I don't see the available cluster groups. In the cluster admin, the cluster is up and running fine. The MNS cluster has no shared disk, and it has two nodes. Any thoughts or suggestions? or is it possible to built the SQL 2005 analysis service cluster with MNS? Thanks.

I have created a cube with Analysis Service 2005. I then publish the pivot table (generated in Microsoft Excel 2003) as a web page. When I view the web page on the domain the LAN everything is working properly. But when the web page I view on Internet I get the error. The query could not be processed: * An error was encounted in the transport layer * The peer prematurely closed the connection. The web page is publish on the Internet Information Server, I changed the security directory of the website, but the error persists. The firewall of the machine is disabled. The port 2382 and 2883 are allowed. The components needed to consult the cube are installed in the machine on which you are viewing the cube. On the Rol of Analysis Service are allowed all users. Hi there, i'm new to this forum .. Maybe my way of expression is not very good, but I hope to be understandable. I've a sql server 2005 database with 90 columns and more or less 185 thousands records. I've to run microsoft associations rules on my laptop (sony vaio sz3, core 2 duo, 2gb ram). The problems is that the amount of ram seems not to be enough [it starts to swap when it's reading 240th case) Because of this, i decided to sample my data by extracting 10thousands records randomnly ... it lasts 25minutes (more or less) now, but it's still to much... Does a better way exists? What's the problem: column or row numbers? hope you guys can help me.

I am having a hard time connecting from Reporting Services 2005 to Analysis Service 200 data cubes. To complicate matters the Analysis Services 2000 machines only allows connections to be made over http i.e. http://199.xxx.xxx.xxx/msolap;prompt=1 When I try to setup the connection with RS 2005, I use a data source of type 'MS Sql Server Analysis Services' and then provide the above url with credentials. I get the following error message : integrated security 'sspi' is not supported for http or https connections Has anyone run into the same scenario and had success connecting to data cubes on Analysis Services 2000? Hi, Firstly, I had to post this query here since I did not find any other place relating to Microsoft SQL Analysis Server 2005 and that it is related to SQL server 2005. I am using Microsoft SQL analysis server 2005 and .NET 1.1 for Asp.NET (C#) I need to programmatically create Measures, Dimensions and Cubes using .Net 1.1 (C#) in an Asp.NET page, and then I need to access the measures, dimensions and cubes again from another Asp.Net page. My querys are: 1. To create and manipulate the SQL Analysis server objects like Dimensions, Cubes what should I use? The documentation for Analysis server 2005 says we can use (Analysis Management Objects)AMO. but I am not sure if we can use it with .NET 1.1? 2. If AMO is possible, then what to use? There is one more technology we can use called as (Deciscion Suport Objects) DSO. but they are COM based and were for Analysis services 2000. 3. To query the data, what technology can I use? Microsoft says we can use ADOMD.NET. Microsoft also gives many other technologies that I think do similar work, like XMLA, ASSL. Can somebody help me in this. Its regarding Sql Server 2005 Analysis services. I have made an analysis database in sql server business intelligance development studio and the same was visible in sql server 2005 management studio. But then i think i changed some ports, i suppose. So i'm no longer able to connect to analysis services through Management studio, though the same i.e. analysis services are running on the server. the error i'm geeting is: A connection cannot be made. ensure that server is running Additional Information: DIME protocol error: the required bytes cannot be read from the stream. Actully i have analysis services installed on the default instance, which is expired (actuly installed the default instance and then again deinstalled and then again installed, so its expired), but the named instance is running fine (i'm using the sql server 2005 enterprise evaluation edition).so i created the project by connecting to the named instance. I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition. Here's the scenario: I'm running VS 2005 on Windows Media Center laptop and need to create ASP.net membership for my web application built using VB. I have SQL Server Developer installed with instance name MSSQLSERVER. Previously, I uninstalled SQL Express and installed Developer edition and can now open and utilize Management Studio. Now, when I try to create a new SQL Server database in my solution's App_Data directory, I receive the above error. I already changed instance name in VS2005 per Tools-Options-Database Tools-Data Connections to MSSQLSERVER. Applying Service Packs To SQL Server 2000 Instance Attached To Sql Server 2005
Hi, I have an interesting situation here. I have a SQL Server 2000 database which is attached to SQL Server 2005. The database (SQL 2000) however only has service pack 3 applied. I need to apply SP4 before I can move forward with SQL 2000->2005 upgrade. The question: can I somehow apply this support package with my current configuration or should I install full SQL 2000 front-end anew (which I don't have at the moment)? Whenever I try to run SQL 2000 SP4 it complains "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this machine." The server I try to install the update is Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition x64. SQL Server 2000 database itself is x86 (obviously). Thanks.

Can Data Analysis Done Using SQL Server 2005 Be Used In A Consumer Website?
I just have a simple question that can hopefully answer whether I should dive too deeply into Reporting/Analysis Services. I'm looking to run some clustering algorithms on user-inputted keywords on objects within my database (please see http://flickr.com/photos/tags/friends/clusters/ for an example of what I'm talking about). It seems to me that the various reporting methods that SQL Server provides would be an ideal, quick and easy way of providing this for my SQL Server 2005 database. Can the reporting services provide this type of functionality? And if so, would this be scalable? I would want to be able to access this clustered data in much the same way I do queries across my database and would want them to be done quickly and efficiently. Thank you for your help.

SQL Server 2005 Upgrade To SP2 - SQL Server Service Not Starting - SOLUTION
I upgraded my SQL 2005 Workgroup 2005 to SP2 and subsequently could not get the SQL Server service running. Turns out this was a problem because I had created separate folders for my data and log files. The distmdl.mdf and mssqlsystemresource.mdf files were in my data folder and distmdl.ldf and mssqlsystemresource.ldf were in my log folder. During SP2 upgrade a new distmdl.ldf and mssqlsystemresource.ldf were created in my data folder. I deleted the distmdl.ldf and mssqlsystemresource.ldf files in my log folder and then moved the newly created ones in my data folder into the log folder and all is well now. Just a heads up! --Greg

Logins Dont Work After Restoring On Backup Server
I am doing a complete backup on a sql 7 db and then doing a completerestore (with overwrite existing db) on a sql 2000 server. This is nowour hot standby server. I have the process automated and it worksgreat. The only problem I have now is the logins dont work.I have tried running EXEC sp_change_users_login 'Report', and thelogins appear.However, when I run EXEC sp_helplogins 'joe', the results are empty.So, I am guessing all I need is a sp that will re-associate my loginswith the correct db and grant the appropriate permissions.If anyone has any ideas that would be great.I have also considered doing a log ship instead of a full backup andrestore. Does anyone have any suggections or good examples of how tomake that happen?Thanx

Display Analysis Services Server-Based Formatting In RS 2005 Report
I'm looking for a new way to publish reports based on OLAP data and was very disappointed to find that Reporting Services does not natively support displaying MDX query results in a matrix. While it is possible to assign an MDX query to the matrix control in Reporting Services, the two main problems are that the columns of the query must be measures (not dimensions), and it does not support display of server based formatting (fore color, back color, and font flags). Does anyone know of any custom control that properly deals with Analysis Services data? Thanks for any info you have!

Does SQL Server 2005 Express Support XQuery Static Type Analysis?
I am quite curious about SQL Server 2005 Express, since I am conducting an XQuery implementation survey for my thesis study. Yet I still got some questions and may need your help: 1. Does SQL Server 2005 Express support XQuery static type analysis (from http://www.w3.org/TR/xquery-semantics/)? 2. How To Connect To Analysis Service Database Through Reporting Service?
Hello, In our project, we would like to use the same data source for our analysis service database cubes and for our reporting service reports. I created the analysis service project first, deployed successfully. When trying to setting up the data source in the report model project, I selected the "create a data source based on another object", and then selected the "create a data source based on an analysis service project". However, there is no analysis service project to select, and no browse button to see where the reporting service is looking for analysis service project either. I have tried creating a new analysis service project with data source views, cubes, dimensions and all the stuff, but still cannot see the analysis service project in the drop down box to be selected for my reporting model project data source. As I am fairly new to the reporting service, I'm sure I'm missing something, but couldn't find much information in the help or on the web. Any suggestion would be much appreciated. Connecting To Analysis Seervices 2005 From Excel 2000 Using HTTP, From Win2k Server
Hello Friends, I have installed and configured SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services and MS Office 2000(with the latest Service Packs) on Windows 2000 Server. I am able to connect to my Analysis Services from MS Excel using the following URl in Excel ... http://<ip address>/olap/msmdpump.dll ("olap" being my Virtual Directory) I was wondering whether I would be able to connect to the same service without using the fully qualified path with only IP-Address... i.e... using only.. http://<ip address> I have been able to implement the above in Windows 2003 Server, but having problems doing the same in Windows 2000 Server. SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 Has Not Upgraded Visual Studio 2005 Business Intelligence Tools
Hi, I understand from previous threads that installing SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 on the desktop client can speed up the response rate of the Visual Studio 2005 Business Intelligence Tools. However after logging on as an administrator and installing Service Pack 2, Service Pack 2 returned no errors. However after launching Visual Studio and clicking on the about dialog box the version reported was still €œRTM.050727-4200€? where I was expecting to see €œSP.050727-7600€?. I understood that I applied the same service pack to my copy of SQL Server on my laptop and the upgrade worked successfully. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance, Kieran.

Association Rules: Discretization
Hi there, it has been a long i'm trying to execute Microsoft Association Rules on my database. I solved memory leak problem now, but i still can't understand output rules. Database contain all the italian student who took a degree last year. Here in Italy, they have to compile a summary where they speak about universitary experience. ie: they talk about experience with teachers (pointage from 1 to 5); they says if they want to continue in the universitary field or not, and so on. Most of the rules, says: Int_Stud=1-2, RapDoc>4 Int_Stud is the column where i store student intention to continue university. 1 means they want to go on, 2 means they do not want to continue to study. So, this rules has no sense, because it relates all the student (in my mind): the one who wants to continue university and the one who do not want to. I think problem is that visual studio 2005 and analysis service has no understanding of Int_Stud world, they've no idea that Int_Stud can have just 2 values and that they're opposite each other. Is there a solution to this problem? Can i discretize this column? Even if I know not to have perfect english, I hope to be understandable
