Error: 18461, Severity: 14, State: 1

I'm moving the master & resource databases as described on MSDN... http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345408.aspx

I've completed step 7... "Start the instance of SQL Server in master-only recovery mode...." and am up to step 8 which requires me to login to SQL Management Studio to run a query, but I receive the following error...

Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Server is in single user mode. Only one administrator can connect at this time. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18461)

Further details produces... "Error: 18461, Severity: 14, State: 1"

I have no other open connection that I can think of.

Can anyone help?

Error 823, Severity 24, State 2 (Again)
I synch 4 databases everyday and on one of them I get the Error 823, Severity 24, State 2 error (Yes I know you have heard this before but I am a new, LOL). I have tried detaching the database and copying it, renaming that database and then copying back to the original name with the same error; therefore, I think the error is somewhere in the database structure. If it is the database structure would it still give the error above or is that simply a hardware error? I have been searching for solution and I am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Error: 644, Severity: 21, State: 6
Hi All

Ignore the error below, It's got to do with isolation levels (nolock in this case): refer http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=834290 for details.

Error: 644, Severity: 21, State: 6
Could not find the index entry for RID '1631393920202020202020202020202033392020202020202 020202020202019bcd3113230303037333120202020202020' in index page (1:420134), index ID 0, database 'DBName'..

What I'd like to know is how to get the table name that was affected out of this error message. Do I query sysindexes, sysobjects, use a function or something else?

Thanks in advance.

Sql 6.5: Error : 605, Severity: 21, State: 1
I have a big problem with a SQL 6.5 (no SP) running
in a production environment on NT 3.51 SP 4 since
2,5 years.

Suddenly Friday at 99/10/01 14:17:38.93 we started
having problems and we could'nt connect to the
DB from our client server application written in VB4.

We rebooted the server and we had other errors at
99/10/01 16:15:40.96.

The error code is 605-21-1 and it seems like the main
table (FILMS) of our db (VISPO) has phisical allocation
problems.

here is en extract from the SQLServer error log
of the first problem:

99/10/01 14:17:38.93 kernel udread: Operating system error 23(Data error (cyclic redundancy check)) on device 'E:MSSQLDATAvispodat.DAT' (virtpage 0x05000f35).
99/10/01 14:17:43.62 spid13 Buffer 9531a0 from database 'vispo' has page number -1 in the page header and page number 3893 in the buffer header
99/10/01 14:17:43.69 kernel mirrorproc: i/o error on primary device 'E:MSSQLDATAvispodat.DAT'

And here is what we had at 16:15

99/10/01 16:15:40.96 spid11 Getpage: bstat=0x1008/0, sstat=0x80010130, disk99/10/01 16:15:40.96 spid11 pageno is/should be:objid is/should be:99/10/01 16:15:40.96 spid11 0xffffffff(-1)0xffffffff(-1)99/10/01 16:15:40.96 spid11 0xf34(3892)0xe4e2b2e(240003886)99/10/01 16:15:40.96 spid11 ... retry bufget after purging bp 0x943a8099/10/01 16:15:40.98 spid11 Error : 605, Severity: 21, State: 1
99/10/01 16:15:40.98 spid11 Attempt to fetch logical page 3892 in database 'vispo' belongs to object '-1', not to object 'FILMS'.

We are thinking about restoring the BackUp of the previous night that should be OK,
but I would like what we can try to do in order to have the
db working properly.

Even if the restore would be fine, maybe we are starting
to have problems on the disk subsystems?

What can we check, something like scandisk in DOS?

I attach here in ZIP format the 2 log files and plese ignore the MAPI errors
that are "normal", we just don't care.
I don't know if it's possible to attach files to a newsgroup or a discussion
group but I will try

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Error: 845, Severity: 17, State: 1
On my production SQL Server 7.0 sp 3 I'm getting the above error. This error happened on spid 6. Two minutes later the spid 12 had the following error Time out occurred while waiting for buffer latch type 1, bp 0x145649c0, page (1:287), stat 0xb, object ID 2:2:0, waittime 1000. Continuing to wait. The wait time increased all the way to 50500 grinding the server to a halt.

I want to know how can I stop this from happening? This is the second time in about two weeks. Also, is there a wait threshold that I can set?

Please let me know.

Thanks

The database size was 20 and the log size 15. Yesterday after I got the
same message I went to edit the database and expanded the database size and
log to DB 23 and log 20. Backup of the log and maintenance was done last
night. However, the error message is still there. Also I went to edit the

change the size at all. The same with the log it shows -798 and no option
to change the size. Please advice.

Error: 1203, Severity: 20, State: 1
We have a customized package which uses 2 middle layers before it hits the database.
yesterday the sqlserver rebooted all of sudden and I got this error

Process ID 96 attempting to unlock unowned resource KEY: 7:167671645:4 (8d021bb2cdf2)..

Error: 1203, Severity: 20, State: 1

Error 1203
Severity Level 20
Message Text
Process ID %d attempting to unlock unowned resource %.*ls.

Explanation
This error occurs when Microsoft® SQL Server™ is engaged in some activity other than normal post-processing
cleanup and it finds that a particular page it is attempting to unlock is already unlocked. The
underlying cause for this error may be related to structural problems within the affected database. SQL Server manages
the acquisition and release of pages to maintain concurrency control in the multi-user environment. This mechanism is maintained
through the use of various internal lock structures that identify the page and the type of lock present. Locks are acquired
for processing of affected pages and released when the processing is completed.

Action
Execute DBCC CHECKDB against the database in which the object belongs. If DBCC CHECKDB reports no errors, attempt to reestablish the connection and execute the command.

Important If executing DBCC CHECKDB with one of the repair clauses does not correct the index problem, or if you are unsure what effect DBCC CHECKDB with a repair clause has on your data, contact your primary support provider

Can anyone help with this.DBCC checkdb returned without errors.

This error has come up time and again and I can't seem to find a solution.

Specs:  SQL Server 2005 v9.00.3054 on x64, Windows Server 2003 SP2

The user is a member of an active directory group.  When he connects from his workstation via Management Stuidio, the error is:

Login failed for user '<domain><user>'. [CLIENT: xx.xx.xx.xxx]

I've dropped and re-created the login for the group, but to no avail.  I've tried

and I get a valid entry

I've verified that the user is a db_owner in the database and that this database is the default for the group.

I also tried

perms.permission_name, perms.state_desc

FROM

sys.server_permissions perms,

Error: 18456 Severity: 14, State: 11
I have a SQL 2005 SP1 test server running Developer Edition on top of Windows Server 2003 SP1.  We're testing out a 3rd party application that is using Windows Authentication to connect to SQL 2005.  The SQL Error Log is saturated with the error message listed in the subject line.  The text accompanying the message alternates between "Login failed for user 'MYDOMAINTESTDA1$'. [CLIENT: <named pipe>]" and "Login failed for user 'MYDOMAINTESTDA1$'. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]".

There are two strange parts to this:  1) The application appears to be working fine on the surface, and, 2) The MYDOMAINTESTDA1$ account mentioned in the error text is not the user account that we are using to connect the application to SQL 2005.  TESTDA1 is the server name that the 3rd party software is running remotely from.

I've looked up "error state 11" using the following resource:

http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/02/21/536201.aspx

It describes error states 11 and 12 as "Valid login but server access failure" but I'm not sure what that means.  Why would SQL care about the computer account hosting the application?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16.
I am getting the error

Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16.
Login failed for user 'PRIsqlservice'. [CLIENT: 172.16.9.2]

in the log repeated every 15 seconds or so.  I am logged into the server as prisqlservice, I have started the sql server and sql server agent with prisqlservice and I can access databases and tables inside the Server Management studio.  I have set up the login prisqlservice and given it dbo owner access to all databases.

I am in the process of upgrading from 2000 to 2005.  I have installed a new sql server 2005, restored backups of databases from 2000.  I have also converted all packages and uploaded those to the new server (although they all point to the 2000 server).  I have imported the jobs, but all but one are disabled and the one that is enabled ran okay when I ran it manually.

I have researched and researched this issue, and none seem to apply to my specific issue.

This is an extract of my errorlog:

Error: 26014, Severity: 16, State: 1.
Hello,

I installed a verisign test certificate (and their root cert) and got the above mentioned error.  Googling that error resulted in this link- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900495 and not much else.  Their "cause" does not apply to me because my SQL Server runs under the local system account, not a service account.

So, can anyone suggest another fix besides the one listed in that link?  BTW, I did compile and run the code on that page.  The only thing it did was throw a bunch of errors......

I am running on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP1 with SQL Server 2005 SP2.

Thanks!

Error: 1105, Severity: 17, State: 2
Hi ,

I have a SQL Server 2000 database on my C drive.

Over the weekend my C drive got full due to my transaction log files ballooning up.

At that point none of my users were able to log into their the VB application and enter data.

I freed up some disk space, and then the users were able to log in fine, except for a certain column variable(aggregate) values were negative.

I deattached the DBs and Ldf files and made copies of them on to a test envirnoment.  Within the test environment, I ran SQL Query Analyzer with SQL statments that did give me the aggregate values as negative.  This matched my VB application values aswell.

I ran

DBCC CHECKDB  -- no errors

DBCC DBREINDEX -- no errors

Our programming vendor tells us the DBs are corrupt.

Exception 911 Error: 911, Severity: 16, State: 1 DTS Designer
I'm running a DTS package. It is moving transferring data VERY slowly and the local disk RAID is pegged in the performance monitor. There are no entries in the SQL Server Error Log, but if I run SQL Profiler, I see many entries like:

Exception 911 Error: 911, Severity: 16, State: 1 DTS Designer

I suspect something is wrong but have no clue how to go about debugging this. Any ideas?

When I do: SELECT description FROM sysmessages WHERE error=911, I get:

Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database '%.*ls'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.

Error: 0, Severity: 19, State: 0 Hard Or Software?
Hi All,

Am new to the forum, please forgive me for stupid questions.

SQL2000, running on WIN2000 Server, 5GB Database.
Build 8.00.2187; Service Pack 4, build 2195

I have been receiving (Error: 0, Severity: 19, State: 0) errors for the last few months. I believe (from google searches) that it is either: an internal bug in SQL2000, OR a possible hardware problem. I have seen that SP4 should have corrected this problem so I am assuming it's not an internal bug.

I think it may be a hardware problem, I ran 'Windows Memory Diagnostics' on the server, which reported nothing but failed memory, however I don't know how the test works, and if it is 100% reliable.

Can anybody guide me on a direction to go. My boss is too cheap to get Microsoft involved....

MS SQL Server Error 18456 Severity 14 State 8

This is on SQL Server 2005 for the sa account. I am just looking the in the sql server error log.I know this is a password mismatch. Where is it mismatched? Does there have to be a 'sa' network user account now with 2005?

Any help would be very appreciated.

Login Error 18456 Severity 14 State 8
When I try to login to my SQL Server 2005 SP2 from SQL Server 2005 SP2 client computers using Management Studio, with the same login and password, it works in 4 computers in the same network, but in only one computer we get this issue. In the same PC in which I am not able to use the Management Studio, I am able to connect from Excel using SQL Client with same user ID and password. Any hints?

Error: 18456 Severity: 14, State: 11 On DomainGroup

Hello,

We have SQL2k5 SP2 STD and are unable to allow user groups access to the box. We get the Error: 18456 Severity: 14, State: 11 in the log. If I remove a user from that group and add them manually it works. I ran

Exec xp_logininfo 'DomainGroup', 'members' and it is listing all of the members correctly. Has anyone had/solved this issue? Thanks in advance.

Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11 When Logging In
I just installed SQL Server 2005 with SP2 on Vista. When I try to login from SQL Server Management Studio, I get the following error message in the log:
---
2007-09-15 18:58:02.23 Logon       Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11.
2007-09-15 18:58:02.23 Logon       Login failed for user '<computer name><user account>'.[CLIENT: <local machine>]
---

Since I can't login, I can't try some of the stuff I have seen here, such as creating new logins etc.

I installed Analysis Server and Integration Services at the same time. Logging in to them both works fine.

I use windows authentication. I don't know if changing that helps, as I don't know how to change it without logging in in the first place...

Logon Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 8 - NEED HELP!!!!
Hi All,

I am getting the following error in the ERRORLOG File when I am
trying to connect to SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition 64bit with SP2 from
Reporting Services Configuration tool - Database Setup. The SQL Server
database and reporting services are on 2 different servers. Both are running
2003 SP2 64 bit.

2007-04-12 07:30:05.54 Logon Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State:
8.
2007-04-12 07:30:05.54 Logon Login failed for user 'sa'.
[CLIENT: xx.xx.xx.xx]

I know my password is valid as I can logged into SSMS using SA. I can create
the 2 reportserver databases using the Reporting Services Configuration tool
on the database server. The db server is in MIXED mode.

What am I missing?

Error 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11 Vs. BUILTINAdministrators
I post this in hopes that it will help others...

I have been in the process of fixing some access issues between SQL Server 2005 and an Access ADP, in order to test access I set myself up through Windows Authentication; I already have an account set up in SQL Server but its set up with SQL Server Authentication and I have God Rights with that account. So now I have two login accounts: "SqlDb" and "DomainSqlDb" but the NT account is not connecting (and it€™s getting frustrating€¦). I check the error log and I see login failed for "DomainSqlDb Error 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11", so I look up State: 11 and find the following information in BOL: Login is valid, but server access failed. Ok, what does that mean€¦? (Nothing but helpful information in BOL€¦)

Google was useless as well and not for lack of rephrasing the question anyway I could€¦

It finally dawns on me that not only am I the DBA, but I'm also a network administrator (small company and we back each other up when needed, except for the DB stuff) and I disabled the "BUILTINAdministrators" account a while back by removing it from the Sysadmin Server Role; plugging all potential security holes.

For those of you who don€™t know what the "BUILTINAdministrators" account does let me explain: this account gives anyone with Administrator rights on the network access to the database, full access to the database by way of Sysadmin Server Roll access.

Since I had left this account in the database but never gave it access to anything, it could not access any of the databases on the server, but since I'm an Administrator on the network my account was still pulling through the "BUILTINAdministrators" account.

After I deleted the "BUILTINAdministrators" account I rolled right into the database using the Windows Authentication without any hitch€¦

Be forewarned before you willy-nilly delete the "BUILTINAdministrators" account, make sure that none of the SQL Server services is using this account (I did that when I removed the account from Sysadmin) because if they are, your Database Server may not start up and your day will be more frustrating than mine has been€¦

Log Shipping Error: 60000, Severity: 10, State: 1
Hey all!

I have log shipping set up between two servers (s1 and s2). Data is flowing from s1 to s2 and the log shipping monitor is on s1.

I get the following error sporadically
"Transaction Log Backup Job for DB Maintenance Plan 'LogShip DatabaseName" failed..
Error: 60000, Severity: 10, State: 1

So i usually go and start the job manually and it runs fine. But why does this happen and what does the error mean? The above job is scheduled to run every 5mins daily.

Thanks in advance!

Error: 14151, Severity: 18, State: 1. Error When Reinitialising A Publication
Hi,

I have three publications on a dev server.  All are sql 2005 merge replication (push) with replication running to subscribers on the same instance of sql server (note this is just dev testing).

However, I have just marked one for re-initialisation / create new snapshot / don't upload changes but when I kick off the synchronisation it says it has insufficient permission to run the snapshot.

When I do this for the other two there is no problem.

SQLAgent is running (using LocalSystem) so I don't know why my reinitialisation won't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Error: 16954, Severity: 10, State: 1 And Timeout Problem
Hi to all,I have a problem I can not trace.Andgeneraly this is my problem probably.I have a SQL Server 2000 SP3 with one database. On this DB are runing lot of threads from different applications. Sothe access is multiple. The problem is, on one of the applications (C++ programmed) I get fromtime to time, problem, that the calls in database are sometimesperformed very very long.If usualy it takes like 50ms, sometimes it takes up to over one minute!I can not trace, why the application need so long time, to perform thisstatement.I've checked the code, but it seams to be ok.Probably, other aplication are locking resources, so the first one needto wait so long.Question is, how to find out, which one is locking the resources, ormaybe which resources for so long?I was trying to analyze SQL Profiler, but the only error I found wasthis one:Error: 16954, Severity: 10, State: 1Help me, how to diagnose the problem. How can I trace, which processesare blocking eachother.Any advise will be helpful..Thanks - Matik
