File System Object - Combine 3 Files Into 1

May 16, 2008

I have an export file that updates each night and dumps into prices.txt

I have to send them to an ftp site that processes them automatically if they're formatted correctly. They contain the same header information (saved in header.txt) and footer information (saved in footer.text). I then combine them all
header.txt + prices.txt + footer.txt = glpcwholesale.prn

The script below is what I have so far but it isn't working and errors out on line 23.

Any help would be great.

Combine Multiple RDL Files Into One RDL File

Aug 31, 2007

Hello,
I need to generate a report, which should display 4 reports. Two tables and some charts. I have all these reports (I mean the .RDL files) individually. I can render the reports separately. But, now the need is to combine these reports in the one RDL file. Is this possible? If yes, how?

Also, I tried to create a stored procedure, which would call all these 4 SP inturn and provide 4 result sets. I thought of have an RDL by calling only this SP which would give 4 result sets. But infortunately, it gave only the first SP's result set. So, I have to combine the 4 RDL files into one to show on the Reporting Console. Can anyone please help me in this? Help would be grately appreciated.

Thanks a lot. Let me know if the question is not clear.

Mannu.

File System Task Rename Files

Feb 26, 2008

I want to rename files in a folder using filesystem task. My files are like these:

C:FOLDERDatabase20080225.bak
C:FOLDERDatabase120080225.bak etc

I want to remove this datepart and put in a C:FOLDERDatabase.bak file.

I am not quite sure about the string functions usage here...I think I have to map the destination variable to a string function output.

Any other ways to do this job ?
Thnaks for your help,

Missing Files After Using File System Task

Jan 25, 2007

Hi All,

I don't know if anyone faced this issue. We are having a strange problem. Our process was working well when it was implemented on 32 bit processor.IT ran perfectly for 6 months with out a problem. But when we moved the packages to a 64 bit machine, this issue along with some other issues started to show up.

The issue is we are missing files in the source folder.

Our process is designed such that a source process, brings in a file and updates a status for the file in a audit table. The ETL process picks up the file, then assigns the status as €˜running€™ when SRC process is complete and loads into Target DB, and updates ETL status to complete. But current problem is the ETL is losing files after it assigns the status as running. When we looked into the DB weather the data is loaded, we could not find any data related to these files.

we are have mapping level parameters for source path and target path.

We are using a For Each Loop task, and processing files(which are simple flat files) in the source path. The file name is stored in the mapping level parameter. Once the file is process we are moving them into a target path.

Our src and target file paths are on the same drive, just have src folder, inside src folder we have processed folder and failed folder. So files are picked from the source folder and moved into processed folder after processing. The files are not even moved to a failed folder.

There are lot other processing going on this box, and the trend observed is that when more processors are running at peak hour, the missing files€™ count is more.

Right now we are refetching those files, as a work around, but does any one has any suggestion why this is happening or any better implementation suggestions?

Thanks

Combine Raw Files Using Range

Jan 5, 2007

HI, I have a dataflow that has two raw files as source and I would like to merge them upon a range condition:

RawFile1.Date <= RawFile2.Date

Usually, using tables, I would have used a lookup with partial cache to achieve it. Now, since we cannot use lookup transform with raw files, I was wondering how I could achieve this using raw files as source. Is it possible to merge raw files using merge or merge join?

Thank you,

Ccote

How To Combine Log Files && Delete Secondary

Oct 21, 2003

I have a database with 2 log files VE_log and VE_log2 (the split is left from legacy system with limited disk space). I want to eliminate the 2nd log.

I've tried SHRINKFILE (EMPTYFILE), which of course reduces the file to the default minimum pages, SHRINKFILE (TRUNCATEONLY), SHRINKDATABASE (VE), and in every case the ALTER DATABASE REMOVE FILE command fails cause the log isn't empty.

Ideas???

Thanks,

Unable To Cast Object Of Type 'System.DBNull' To Type 'System.Byte[]'.

Aug 13, 2007

Hi,
I have developed a custom server control for .NET Framework 2.0. The server control has a property named BinaryData of type byte[]. I marked this property to be data bindable. Now, I have varbinary(Max) type of field in my SQL Database and I have used SQLDataSource and bound this varbinary(Max) field with the property BinaryData (byte[]) of my control. It is working fine as long as the data value is not NULL. Now, In my control, I have handled the NULL value so that no Exception is thrown. Still, when I bind this property using the SQLDataSource, I get Error "Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System.Byte[]'." I am not sure if I can do anything to stop this erro within my control. If it is not possible from the control, then what is the workaround that I can do in my ASPX page in order to stop this error ?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Combine Data And Split Into Separate Txt Files For Each Header/detail Row Groupings

Mar 16, 2006

I€™ve created with the help of some great people an SSIS 2005 package which does the follow so far:

1)       Takes an incoming txt file.  Example txt file: http://www.webfound.net/split.txt

The txt file going from top to bottom is sort of grouped like this
     Header Row (designated by €˜HD€™)
          Corresponding Detail Rows for the Header Row
           €¦..
     Next Header Row
          Corresponding Detail Rows

     €¦and so on

       http://www.webfound.net/rows.jpg

2)       Header Rows are split into one table, Maintenance Detail Rows into another, and Payment Detail Rows into a third table.  A uniqueID has been created for each header and it€™s related detail rows to form a PK/FK relationship as there was non prior to the import, only the relation was in order of header / related rows below it when we first started.  The reason I split this out is so I can massage it later with stored proc filters, whatever€¦

Now I€™m trying to somehow bring back the data in those table together like it was initially using a query so that I can cut out each of the Header / Detail Row sections into their own txt file.  So, if you look at the original txt file, each new header and it€™s related detail rows (example of a cut piece would be http://www.webfound.net/rows.jpg) need to be cut out and put into their own separate txt file.

This is where I€™m stuck.  How to create a query to combine it all back into an OLE DB Souce component, then somehow read that souce and split out the sections into their own individual txt files.

The filenames of the txt files will vary and be based on one of the column values already in the header table.

Here is a print screen of my package so far:

http://www.webfound.net/tasks.jpg

http://www.webfound.net/Import_MaintenanceFile_Task_components.jpg

http://www.webfound.net/DataFlow_Task_components.jpg

Let me know if you need more info.  Examples of the actual data in the tables are here:

http://www.webfound.net/mnt_headerRows.txt
http://www.webfound.net/mnt_MaintenanceRows.txt
http://www.webfound.net/mnt_PaymentRows.txt

Here's a print screen of the table schema:

ArrayList -&&> System.Object-Variable

Jan 4, 2007

Hi,

I have a custom task to execute a package. This task sets dynamically the values of the child package at runtime before execution of the child.

Everything works fine, as long as Im not trying to use an Object Variable in the child package, trying to fill with an ArrayList. Then, during package validation at runtime, the Properties of the custom task have NULL-Values. I don't know why all Properties got NULL or 0 (int), only adding an ArrayList-Property to the Task-Code.

The ArrayList gets initialized in the constructor of the Task. Values to add in execute(). But the process never gets to the execute()-Method, due to my check in validate() for null Values. So the List is initialized but empty.

Anyone an idea, maybe I'm doing something wrong at all. Anybody experiences with Object-Variables in Packages? A HowTo?

Thanks a lot

Thorsten

System Function To Get Current T-SQL Object Name?

Feb 1, 2008

We're building a simple logging facility and would like to systematically determine the name of the current T-SQL object(i.e., the procedure name or function name) to provide this as a logging parameter. For example, in procedure FooBar, I'd like to be able to call a system function that will return 'FooBar', the name of the current object. Does such a feature exist?

System.Net.WebException: The Request Failed With HTTP Status 404: Object Not Found.

Feb 26, 2007

We did configure reporting services to use a custom security extension on a Windows 2000 sp4 machine and using IIS 5.0.

The website for reporting services is not using the default website in IIS. It uses IP address : 192.168.1.20 and host header name is rpt2.compagny.com. When accessing the report manager at http://rpt2.compagny.com/reports$sql_2005 from another machine or on the machine where reporting services is installed we get an error message.

Error Message : The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version.

The RSWebApplication.config file looks like the following :

<UI>

<CustomAuthenticationUI>

<loginUrl>/Pages/UILogon.aspx</loginUrl>

<UseSSL>False</UseSSL>

</CustomAuthenticationUI>

<ReportServerUrl>http://server name/ReportServer$sql_2005</ReportServerUrl>

</UI>

The RSreportserver.config file looks like the following :

<UrlRoot>http://server name/ReportServer$SQL_2005</UrlRoot>

We already tried replacing the server name with the ip address in both the RSreportserver.config file and RSWebapplication.config file and it still does not work.

here is the logfile information :

aspnet_wp!ui!1!2/26/2007-14:41:51:: e ERROR: The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version.

Why User Defined Procedure Shows Under System Procedures In Object Explorer

Jan 17, 2008

I have created a store procedure in sql server 2005.
At first, it shows up as a normal user defined store procedure in Object explorer.

Recently, I found I could not found the procedure in normal place. But the execution is fine.
Finally I found it stays under system procedure folder.

How this could happen?

Deleting Files Using SSIS Scripting Object

Jun 5, 2006

I am utlizing a scripting object in my ssis to combine two text files into one final file, and then I want to delete the original files. To do this I am utilizing the FileSystemInfo namespace and associating the file names, then utilizing the DELETE functionality.

The creation of the final file works perfectly...unfortunately, my base files do not delete, and I do not get a failure message or indictator.

Here is my code:

' Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Script Task
' Write scripts using Microsoft Visual Basic
' The ScriptMain class is the entry point of the Script Task.

Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Math
Imports System.IO
Imports System.IO.File
Imports System.IO.FileSystemInfo
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime

Public Class ScriptMain

' The execution engine calls this method when the task executes.
' To access the object model, use the Dts object. Connections, variables, events,
' and logging features are available as static members of the Dts class.
' Before returning from this method, set the value of Dts.TaskResult to indicate success or failure.
'
' To open Code and Text Editor Help, press F1.
' To open Object Browser, press Ctrl+Alt+J.

Public Sub Main()

Dim strCurrentMonth As String
Dim strCurrentYear As String
Dim strWriteFileName As String
Dim strReadHeaderFileName As String
Dim strReadBodyFileName As String

'Utilizing a case statement, determine the monthname & year and set the appropriate variables
Select Case Month(Now())
Case 1
strCurrentMonth = "January"
Case 2
strCurrentMonth = "February"
Case 3
strCurrentMonth = "March"
Case 4
strCurrentMonth = "April"
Case 5
strCurrentMonth = "May"
Case 6
strCurrentMonth = "June"
Case 7
strCurrentMonth = "July"
Case 8
strCurrentMonth = "August"
Case 9
strCurrentMonth = "September"
Case 10
strCurrentMonth = "October"
Case 11
strCurrentMonth = "November"
Case 12
strCurrentMonth = "December"
End Select

strCurrentYear = Year(Now()).ToString

'Set variables with file names (reader files and write file) for ease in readability and to
'set final (write file) with appropriate nameing convention utilized by Matria HealthCare.

strWriteFileName = "\CUPSRV05SHAREDISPublicData ExportMatriaFiles TO Matriacup_ref_cup_" & strCurrentMonth & strCurrentYear & "_ftp_ReferralFormat.txt"

strReadHeaderFileName = "\CUPSRV05SHAREDISPublicData ExportMatriaFiles TO MatriaMatria_Referral_Control.txt"

strReadBodyFileName = "\CUPSRV05SHAREDISPublicData ExportMatriaFiles TO MatriaMatria_Referral.txt"

'create stream reader/writer objects

Dim sr As New StreamReader(strReadHeaderFileName)
Dim sr2 As New StreamReader(strReadBodyFileName)
Dim sw As New StreamWriter(strWriteFileName)

'feed the header record into the final file

Do Until sr.Peek = -1
'write the header record
sw.WriteLine(sr.ReadLine)
Loop

'close the read stream for the header record file
sr.Close()

'Feed the body records into the final file
Do Until sr2.Peek = -1
'write all base records
sw.WriteLine(sr2.ReadLine)
Loop

'close the read stream for the body records
sr2.Close()

'close the write stream for the final distribution file
sw.Close()

'dispose of all stream objects
sr.Dispose()
sr2.Dispose()
sw.Dispose()

Dim EligBaseFile As New FileInfo("strReadBodyFileName")
Dim EligHeaderFile As New FileInfo("strReadHeaderFileName")

EligBaseFile.Delete() <--These do not delete or through an error
EligHeaderFile.Delete()

'final statement for SSIS package to determine script result

Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success

End Sub

End Class

I would appreciate any light you can shed on this. Thanks!

Two Log Files Generated Using C:\ + @[System::ExecutionInstanceGUID] + .log

Jan 12, 2007

Why are two log files generated when using a Text Log Provider with a Connection String property set to the following expression?

"c:\" + @[System::ExecutionInstanceGUID] + ".log"

I've set up package logging with a view to getting a unique, and linkable log. However, two files are always generated, no matter what the DelayValidation settings may be on the connection manager, file, and package tasks.

Cleaning Up MSDB Backup System Files

Feb 18, 2002

I have been researching on how to cleanup four backup system files located in the MSDB database. I currently have approximately 1 million rows in each of these tables which is making my MSDB database to be 4 gig in size. I cannot find any instructions on how to gracefully clean these tables up or what to do to keep the number of rows down in these tables. The tables are backupfile, backupmediafamily, backupmediaset, and backupset. Thanks.
