Fix For Transmission_status Message Connection Handshake Failed [...] The Logon Attempt Failed

Mar 30, 2007

Full message:

Connection handshake failed. An OS call failed: (8009030c) 0x8009030c(The logon attempt failed). State 66

Under these conditions, setting trustworthy on on the sending and receiving databases will solve this issue

1) Communicating between multiple instances

2) Using Kerberos security (NT Authentication, i.e. not certificates)

Connection Handshake Failed: Unexpected Or Badly Formatted Message.

Sep 13, 2007

Hello,

I am unable to send a message to a target service on a different SQL Server instance. Using the SQL Profiler, I get the following error from the target machine:

Broker::Connection: Connection handshake failed: An OS call failed: (80090326) 0x80090326(The message received was unexpected or badly formatted.). State 106.

On the initiator side, the transmission_status shows the following error:

An error occurred while receiving data: '64(The specified network name is no longer available.)'.

Any ideas on why the target thinks the message is "unexpected or badly formatted"? Btw, I am specifying the default message type and contract for the services.

Thanks.

Connection Handshake Failed.

Aug 17, 2006

Hi.

I created two instances of SQL Server Dev Edition on the same machine.

The two instances acted as the sender / receiver.

However, when the message is transmitted from "Sender" to "Receiver", the following errors are
displayed in "SQL Profiler".

「Connection handshake failed. There is no compatible authentication protocol. State 21.

How should be dealt with with this?
My best regards.

Login Failed For Trusted Connection Login Failed For User 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'

Mar 13, 2007

We have a SQL 2000 Active/Passive cluster running on Windows 2000. On one node, everything logs in fine (second node is powered off). I can use local authentication fine in OSQL (-E) and even see my connection in SQLEM current activity as [DomainUser] for the NT account which I am logged in as. Then I bring the second node online and initiate a failover. SQL Server starts but Cluster Admin cannot connect and starts throwing this Anonymous Logon error. I open a command prompt and try the same OSQL (-E) local login and sure enough it is also giving the Anonymous Logon connection user. I do not understand why the failover to a second node is causing the Trusted Connection Local authentication to switch to Anonymous instead of the [DomainUser] which I am using. Any help is appreciated. John.

Connection Handshake Failed - Easiest Possible Configuration

Jun 1, 2006

Hi there!

Often discussed, but not really solved in my opinion - the connection between the partners and the witness causes problems.

My case: Three Servers in the same domain, three endpoints on 5022 with windows negotiation, all endpoints can be reached by telnet from each server. Mirrorring works. So far so good.

But one of these partners is not able to connect to the witness. The witness' error log is full with that:

"2006-06-01 13:45:20.32 Logon Database Mirroring login attempt failed with error: 'Connection handshake failed. An OS call failed: (8009030c) 0x8009030c(Der Anmeldeversuch ist fehlgeschlagen.). State 67.'. [CLIENT: 130.143.205.54]"

My Endpoints are created like

CREATE ENDPOINT [EASYRIS_Mirroring]

AUTHORIZATION [code1dephbrsaa1-sys108]

STATE=STARTED

AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)

FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER, AUTHENTICATION = WINDOWS NEGOTIATE

, ENCRYPTION = SUPPORTED ALGORITHM RC4);

What catches my eyes is that

GRANT CONNECT ON ENDPOINT::EASYRIS_Mirroring TO [code1dephbrsaa1-sys108];

doesn't cause these user to appear in the result set of

SELECT EP.name, SP.STATE,

CONVERT(nvarchar(38), suser_name(SP.grantor_principal_id))

AS GRANTOR,

SP.TYPE AS PERMISSION,

CONVERT(nvarchar(46),suser_name(SP.grantee_principal_id))

AS GRANTEE

FROM sys.server_permissions SP , sys.endpoints EP

WHERE SP.major_id = EP.endpoint_id

ORDER BY Permission,grantor, grantee;

By the way, these mentioned user is sysadmin and grantor.

Has anyone an idea?

SSPI Handshake Failed With Error Code 0x8009030c While Establishing A Connection With Integrated Security; The Connection Has Be

Mar 7, 2006

Hello, I have a sql 2005 server, and I am a developer, with the database on my own machine. It alwayws works for me but after some minutes the other developer cant work in the application

He got this error

Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]

and When I see the log event after that error, it comes with another error.

SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]

He has IIS5 and me too.

I created a user on the domain called ASPSYS with password, then in the IIS on anonymous authentication I put that user with that password, and it works, on both machines.

and in the connection string I have.

<add key="sqlconn" value="Data Source=ESTACION15;Initial Catalog=GescomDefinitiva;Integrated Security=SSPI; Trusted_Connection=true"/>

I go to the profiler, and I see that when he browses a page, the database is accesed with user ASPSYS, but when I browse a page, the database is accesed with user SElevalencia.

Thats strange.

The only way that the other developer can work again on the project is to restart the whole machine. He has windows xp profession, I have windows 2000.

If you want me to send logs please tellme

Stuck Between Failed To Generate User Instance And An Attempt To Attach...failed

Sep 29, 2005

I wrote an application using Visual Studio 2005 beta 2 which uses a SQL Express .mdf file, included in the project, for the database.  After installing Visual Studio 2005 RC and the SQL Express that comes with it (I followed all of the uninstall instructions first) I can no longer add a SQL Express database to any of my projects, nor can I open the SQL Express database in my original project.  When I try either of these tasks, I get the "Failed to generate user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance.  The connection will be closed."  I read the thread which dealt with this error, and changed the connection string for the database file that had worked before to User Instance = false.  The moment I click Test Connection or OK, I get the error: "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:<path to project>EngSQL.mdf failed.  A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share." (<path to project> is actually a full path, I didn't want to type the whole thing out. :) ).  A search for this error turns up a solution of setting User Instance = false, which puts me in a catch 22 position.

SSPI Handshake Failed With Error

Jul 10, 2007

I keep getting these alerts but the client's IP listed in the message doesn't seem to be having a problem. I'm not sure if it is retrying and succeeds the second or third try. I commonly get 2 of these messages each time it happens. I thought is may be when the user connects to the server in Management Studio but when I got the message today the user wasn't trying to connect to this server. The server the use was connected to in SSMS is linked to this server but if the link was causing the error it looks like it would return the IP of the server instead of the users IP. The link is done using a SQL login account. Anyway, this is not a big problem since know body except me even knows it is happening but I'd like to figure it out.

Failed To Acquire Connection Message On SSIS Packs From Within Integration Services

Aug 20, 2007

Hi all,

I am trying to run eight SSIS packs from within Integration Services > Stored Packages > File System and seem to get an error like the following on all of them:

"Failed to acquire connection "MyConnection". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.

I can run the packages without error from within VS and from within that location in Integration Services on the machine containing the the databases, but when I attempt to run them remotely I get that error. I am attempting this with full admin access on both machines, but the purpose behind these packages is for our developers to run them on individual databases whenever they need to. So I'm concerned that I may run into further access errors after this, but so far I can't find a reason why this connection would fail. Any ideas?

If I can supply more information please let me know. Thanks in advance for any information!

I understand from some threads here that it is an issue related to contacting the AD. In event viewer it is not clear what is casuing this. I have WSS databases, Biztalk server databases.....and some other user databases. NO home made applications contact sql server.

What is the best route to follow to see who is not being able sometimes and why contacting the AD. I read the thread at URL.... but it is related to express 2005 and it does not apply to my case.

Logon Failed. (rsLogonFailed)

Aug 31, 2007

Hi,

I am writing a web application in c# that is attempting to get the parameters from a report on a Reporting Services 2005 server.

I am using the following code:

SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials = new ReportCredentials(UserName, UserPassword, UserDomain); SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportPath = Rpt.FileName; SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new Uri(ServerUrl); Parameters = SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.GetParameters();
The Getparameters Line causes the following exception:

Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportServerException was unhandled by user code Message="Logon failed. (rsLogonFailed)" Source="Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms" ErrorCode="rsLogonFailed" StackTrace: at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.get_Service() at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.GetExecutionInfo() at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.GetParameters()

The UserName, UserPassword and UserDomain variables are all populated with correct data, as is Rpt.FileName.
The ReportCredentials class is a very simple implementation of the ICredentials interface - Code shown here:

-->

public class ReportCredentials : IReportServerCredentials { protected string _UserName, _Password, _Domain; public ReportCredentials(string UserName, string Password, string Domain) { _UserName = UserName; _Password = Password; _Domain = Domain; } //***************************************************************** public bool GetFormsCredentials (out System.Net.Cookie AuthCookie, out string UserName, out string Password, out string Authority) { UserName = _UserName; Password = _Password; Authority = _Domain; AuthCookie = null; return (true); } //***************************************************************** public System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity ImpersonationUser { get { return (null); } } //***************************************************************** public ICredentials NetworkCredentials { get{ return (new NetworkCredential(_UserName, _Password, _Domain)); } }
<--

I can use the same credentials to retrieve a list of reports from the report server (the report I am trying to access is in that list) and to log on directly by going to the URL of Reporting Services.

This is made more frustrating by the complete lack of detail in the error message, as it does not say why the logon failed, or give me a single clue about what is going on.

Has anyone seen this before and can tell me how to fix it, or is there something stupid in my code?

Thankyou.

Paul

Report Logon Failed

Mar 4, 2008

Hi there!

Well this problem it's really driving me nuts!!!
I am using a CrystalReportViewer on a windows application which has an embedded report document...
The report (and the application too) is connected to an SQL Express server which is installed on an MS Small Bussines Server.
The server and the terminal PCs are under the same domain.
The app works flawlessly on the terminals, but when I open the form which contains the report I get prompted for logon to the SQL.. I have tried everything but it refuses to connect and i get a msg box : Logon failed.Please try again.
The sql surface area and the database have been configured to accept remote connections and mixed mode authentication (otherwise my app dosen't run at all), i have created sysadmin users(on the SQL), i have turned off the firewall but it is still refuses to connect.
I would like to mention that I have tested my app on my domain and SBS (I am not sure which version of SQL Server is installed) and I have used the develpment machine for the test. The logon is successful, even with the same account which the application connects (i mean the account included in the connection string)
Any ideas????

I appreciate your time,
thank you very much in advance...

CANNOT SET PARTNER 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON.' Failed

Dec 27, 2006

i tried to set up mirroring having only principal and mirror. mirroring endpoints were easily created for both servers. when i try to add the partner name it responds with
Msg 1418, Level 16, State 1, Line 1The server network address "TCP://machine1.domain.com:5022" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and that the ports for the local and remote endpoints are operational.
On the log of machine1 i see,
Database Mirroring login attempt by user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON.' failed with error: 'Connection handshake failed. The login 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON' does not have CONNECT permission on the endpoint. State 84.'.

i have similar problems as in

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1020144&SiteID=1

i am a sysadmin on both SQL Servers and have connect permission on both end points.
Both the endpoints are in started state and listening to all IP's
Both services are as 'Local System'
As per what was mentioned in the above post to add a 'domain/machine$' user did not help.
Tried using setspn.exe to add a new SPN MSSQLsvc/<HOST>:<MIRRORINGPORT> did not work. an ERROR comes 'not enough privileges'
setup shows the following SPN only on both
HOST/Machine name
HOST/Machine name.Domin.com
MSSQLSvc/Machine name.Domin.com:1433
SMTPSVC/Machine name
SMTPSVC/machine name.Domain.com

and on second machine
HOST/Machine name

HOST/Machine name.Domin.com

MSSQLSvc/Machine name.Domin.com:1433

any Clues?

SQL 2012 :: Generating Alert From Failed Login Attempt

Sep 30, 2003

I'm trying to set up a SQL Alert to run when a Failed login error is generated. For whatever reason, I can't seem to get this working. I have it set up to run on error 18456 (Failed login), I have the server set to log failed login attempts and I can see the entry in the log file, but the alert never occurs. Basically, I want a way to detect when someone is trying to hack into my database using a brute force approach.
