How Can I Migrate All Objects Alogwith All Constraints,SP,Triggers Etc From Development Instance To Production Instance
Hi fellows,
I have to migrate all objects alogwith all constraints,SP,Triggers, indexes etc from Development instance to Production instance of a DB, all those things are created through wizard ie. Sql server 2000 Enterprise Manager. if i use DTS it only mirates data along with tables and views but constraints,SP,Triggers, indexes etc not yet copied.
can any body help me how can I solve this problem by copying all objects alogwith all constraints,SP,Triggers etc from Development instance to Production instance.
This is Sql server 2000 Cluster environment.

I have a situation where we need to uninstall a SQL Server 2000 instance from the command line using the REMOVE=ALL option along with the INSTANCENAME option in the uninstall process. This must be done from the command line and not through the operating system. We will then install a SQL Server 2005 instance to replace the old SQL Server 2000 instance. My question is whether or not performing an uninstall using the mentioned options will "break" other SQL Server 2000 instances on this server or will they continue to function normally? I know under SQL Server 2005 the REMOVE=ALL option will remove all the shared components and certain instances will be "broken"; does the same thing happen in SQL Server 2000?

Default Instance Files And Named Instance File Paths
Hello FacultiesWhen SQL2000 is installed as a default instance, all its supportingfiles as installed in MSSQL directory. And after installation as anamed instance, the files are added to the MSSQL$InstanceNamedirectory. Hi, I have a task in hand to migrate (upgrade) from SQL2K named instance to SQL2K5 default instance. There are many intranet applications touching current SQL2K. I would like to perform this upgrade such that I don't have to touch any application code - meaning I don't have to change the connectionstring to point to new Default instance. How can I achieve this? So, in otherwords, here is what I want to achieve: Current Server: SQL2K: SERVER_AINSTANCE_A (named instance) Upgraded Server: SQL2K5: SERVERB (default instance) If I have both default, I could achive this by setting up DNS alias after migration done so that any call for SERVER_A would point to SERVER_B. Named Instance Problems (Default Of 7.0/2000 Instance)
I am trying to set up a Named Instance of SQL 2000 on the same machine that has a default instance of SQL 7.0. The setup always completes and I am able to register the Named Instance of the SQL Server with which it was installed on. However, when I try to connect the users to the database, with both windows and SQL authentication, I receive a SQL server not found error. I have tried an alias setup as well as physically specifying the port number in settup up an ODBC connection. Has anyone ran into similar problems? Also, has anyone been able to successfully complete the process as mentioned above?

Now I would like to migrate everything from the named instance to the default instance, which I haven't yet installed. Is this an easy process? Single Instance/Multiple Instance/Virtualization Q
I work for a mid size company with the usual collection of enterprise applications. We are trying to consolidate our SQL environment consisting of around 100 databases none of which are over 100GB with the average database size around 5GB. Recently a large server was purchased as the "Big Daddy" SQL box. Obviously not all the databases will be moved to this one box but within reason a number can. My question: What is the best way to configure the box? 1 OS & 1 Default Instance - How do we isolate loops memory leaks etc... 1 OS & Multiple instances, ie:Dedicated instance for each application. - How do you allocate CPU & memory, allow for optimum performance without putting others at risk from a rouge process? Virtualized OS for each application with a default instance - Too much overhead impacts performance? Future plans include offsite replication, perhaps mirroring with failover. I'd appreciate anyone else's thoughts ideas? How have you tackled this problem in your environment? Thanks Scott

No wonder Microsoft is giving it away for free. It€™s not worth anything. I am very disappointed in this version of SQL server. I decided to start learning VB so I downloaded and installed VB 2005 express edition and SQL 2005 express. I tried to build a personal website using the starter kit. I kept getting the following error message, for which I have seen numerous postings on this forum. €œFailed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.€? I went out and bought the Standard version of VS 2005 thinking there may be a feature that the free express version is lacking. I uninstalled the express version, cleaned the registry, deleted all the folders it created and installed the Standard edition. Then I tried to create a personal web using the starter kit and it does the same thing again. I can not create a database file, connect to a database file. I can not create or attach a database on the SQL 2005 express from VS 2005. The SQL server Express seems to be working OK since I can attach to it using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. There is something about the way VS tries to connect to the database server that is not working. VB does recognize the local computer as a SQL server but can not connect to it. SQL server is set to accept Shared memory, TCP/IP and named pipes for local clients. What is causing this? What have I misconfigured? I do see the service SQL Serer(SQLEXPRESS) started under Network Service and SQL Serfver(MSSQLSERVER) started under local system. My power user ID does have modify access to the sql 90 database folders. and to the mdf.

Hello everyone, I am new in .NET development and currently trying to learn VWB through Microsoft online tutorials. Here is the problem that prevents me from getting further: in VWB, when you right click App_Data and chose "Add New Item" and then select SQL database, the following error message is displayed: "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed." If I cancel out of it, it does generate mdf file under App_Data folder in Solution Explorer, but when I try to open it, it says: "The item does not exist in the Web directory. t may have been moved, renamed or deleted." and that is where the whole sharade deadends. I can connect via mycomputersqlexpress under Data Connections in Database Explorer (it then adds "master.dbo" to the path) and then create custom tables, but that is not the same, isn't it? I mean, this will not integrate my database tables through default configuration that I am trying to follow? All this happens on local machine. Thanks to everybody who can help! Jeff

Hello everybody,I was configuring a SqlDataSource control using SQL Authentication mode.I first added a database file (testdb.mdf) through Solution Explorer-Add New Items. Then through Database Explorer I created a table named "info"Then while configuring the SqlDataSource control I used the SQL Authentication mode and attached the "testdb.mdf" database file.Test Connection showed success. But when I hit the Ok button of the wizard it displayed the following error message:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance.While configuring the SqlDataSource control I clicked "New Connection". Under Data Source section I tried both Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Database File. And in both the cases I attached a databese file(testdb.mdf). Transferring Changes From Development To Production
we have a situation where modifications to the stored procs and views keep happening in the development databse environ while there is a live production database also up and running. periodically we need to ensure that the development and the production are in synch where all changes made to dev are transferred to prod. however the entire prod database obviously cannot be overwritten as it contains production data. therefore what we need to do is to transfer all SPs and Views from the development to prodn. ( we do not prefer incremental transfers as there are many SPs and views and we can never really be sure that all changes have been transferred ) the obvious way is to script out all SPs and views in dev and run the scripts in prodn. but what we encountered was the enterprise manager does not script out the objects in heirarchical sequence - ie parent objects first and then the objects that refer the parent objects. this leads to errors when running the scripts as the objects required for the creation of a SP, say another SP run from within that SP , may not have been generated by then as the "contained" SP is lower in the alphabetical order in which SQL server scripted out the objects. finally we had to look at each and every error and manually set the process right. moreover in the way we did things the "sysdepends" table got all screwed up and therefore we can no longer depend on enterprise manager to show dependencies within the database. is there any elegant way of going about this ? we also tried transfer manager in DTS but it also gave the same error. moreover can the sysdepends table be rebuilt from scratch ?

We have a need to copy data from production to development and QA daily. The challenge I have is that the schema changes in development which makes it inconsistant with production. This causes errors on the development schema and the replication process fails. Is there a way to copy data to dev. and QA when the schema changes and at times different from production??

Managing Development & Production Databases
Hello everyone, I have a question about how to efficiently develop on a development version of a database and get those changes over to the production database without loosing live data, etc.? Here is how we are trying it: 1 Export production database to temp database(exact copy) 2 Delete production database 3 Export development database (definition only, no data) to new database with production database's name 4 Export production (temp) database (data only) over to new production shell We are having truncate errors due to FK constraints. Deploying Development Packages To Production
We have a system here where we develop SSIS packages on a development server. I am trying to figure out the cleanest way to promote these changes to a production server where stored procedures/tables that are used in the package are not deployed yet. When I switch the connection in the package to the production server there are alot of objects in the package that are "invalidated" because they are trying to verify existence of tables/columns. One example is outputing the results of a query to a text file. The text file destination gets a red X on it because it cant grab the columns from the source query (because that stored procedure doesnt exist yet) Is there a best practices or something on how to deploy packages to a production system? I have tried turning off "ValidateExternalMetaData" with no success. Thanks!

How To Manage Development And Production Servers??
Hi everyone, I really need your help!! How you manage development server and production server? My current situation: Our programmers develop new Stored Procedures on development server. When all testing is completed, we then deploy them to production server. Challenges: Programmer (Eric) modified a Stored Procedure (SP_1) on development server. He did not deploy it on production server because SP_1 is not completed yet. Programmer (John) got request and needed to modify SP_1 on development server So now there is a problem in SP_1. if John deploy SP_1 on production server, it will overwrite the current version and cause errors. Anyone can solve this problem? Will it be better if we have another testing server? many thanks

Can Aspnetdb.mdf Be Moved From Development To Production Machine?
1.) Can an aspnetdb.mdf database be configured and setup on one server and then be moved to a production server or is there something machine specific that keeps this from being possible? 2.) Is putting this file in the app_data folder something that is used only for SQL 2005 or SQL express? I had to set up a connection string in my SQL 2000 installation to get the connection to work. Datatype Problem: Development Vs Production Servers
This is driving me nuts: On my development machine the code runs fine but generates an error on the production server. Both are running SQL Server 2000 and ASP.NET 1.1 The datatype of the field in question is datetime. The webform has a calendar for a user to select and automatically insert the date into the textbox. The update command in the webform is: cmdInsert.Parameters.Add("@citation_date", CDate(txtDate.Text)) This works without a hitch on my development system, but on the production server it generates the following error: Cast from string "19-12-1997" to type 'Date' is not valid. WHY?

Refreshing A Development Database With Production Data
Hello, I am trying to refresh a test database with data from a production database. Both database structures are identical, e.g. constraints, stored procs, PK, etc. I am trying to create a package in SSIS that accomplishes this task and I am having extensive problems. The import export wizard is out of the question because the constaints are not carried over, plus when I try to refresh the data using the import export wizard, it fails on 1 specific table because of a column in that table named "Error code". I think "Error code" is a micrsoft keyword, so it fails on this column. Does anyone know a workaround that I can do to accomplish this simple task, that could be completed in minutes using DTS. I understand that SSIS is not as straight forward as DTS, but this task is something that DBA's do on a regular basis and therefore should not be this difficult. Any help would be appreciated, David

Import Excel Into SQL 2005 Working In Development But Not In Production
I have a simple code that uses a the file upload control to read an excel sheet and upload the data into a SQL 2005db. I'm using Visual Web Developer and Sql's express edition to test it. It works fine when I test. However, when I push it up to the production server and try it via the any other pc it does not. The page loads fine. However, when it starts to upload it errors out. Objects In Precedence Constraints?
Is it possible to use objects in precedence constraints? For example, I have a collection object that may or may not be populated in a script at some point and want to be able to execute different paths depending upon whether the Count property equals zero or not. I realize I could very easily just create another int variable and populate it accordingly, but I am just curious about this. Data Source Deployment Best Practises Supporting Development, Test, And Production Environments
We are setting up a new Reporting Services 2005 enterprise reporting tier that will support multiple developers, applications, and end users. We will have mirrored environments including development, test, and production each with their own database cluster, and reporting server. We have multiple report developers who share a single Visual Studio solution which is saved in SourceSafe and is setup to have separate report projects for each business unit in the orgainzation. Each report project is mapped to a specific deployment folder matching the business unit. Using the Visual Studio Configuration Manager, we can simply flip to the envirnoment we want to deploy to and the reports are published to the correct environment and folder structure. My problem lies with the common data sources. We are using a single master Common Data Sources folder to hold all of the data sources. The trick is that each and every reporting folder seems to have to have it's own copy of the data source in visual studio. There does not seem to be an easy way to change the data sources for the reports when you publish to various environment, i.e. development, test, production etc. Ideally, we would have a single project for the common data sources that all reporting projects and associated folders would map to, and we would have a way to associate the appropriate data source for each environment when we deploy. I'm looling for best practices on how to setup data sources for development and deployment in an enterprise environment that uses Visual Studio to develop and publish reports. We have 3 environments, and 6 data sources per environment and about 20 reporting folder / project in Visual Studio. That's 360 changes that have to be manged when deploying reports. Is there a best practices way to do this? There has got to be a better way? Can anyone give me some insite into how to set this up? Thanks!

No Triggers, Constraints
I have several sql server databases that were recently moved to a newserver. In the process of migrating the databases, any triggers andconstraints attached to tables were removed on accident. I need to addthese objects back into the databases, however I'm worried that I willhave problems with referential integrity since there is a chancesomeone may have deleted or updated a record that should have cascadedchanges to other tables but did not since the triggers and constraintswere missing. Is there an easy way to check for problems of thisnature in the databases?Also - I am planning on generating a script from the database on theold server that scripts the triggers and constraints, and then useQuery Analyser to run this script against the database on the newserver. Is this the best way to add these objects back into databasesthat are already populated with data and running on a live server?In in a pretty bad position, but at least these are databases that arenot accessed too frequently, so I'm hoping any referential integrityproblems will be minor.Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
