How Do I Reinstall The SQL Server ODBC Drivers?

They are corrupt. I cannot get the odbc driver applet for sql server
to open when I click add and I cannot configure any existing ones. And
the usage of the drivers fail.

Other ODBC drivers work.

Does anyone know how to reinstall the SQL Server set of ODBC drivers?
MDAC wouldn't install, said it was already at current level.
Thanks for any ideas.

SQL Server ODBC Drivers
I have a lot of client machines that do not have the SQL Server ODBC driver installed. Without having to install SQL Server client on their computers, I'd much prefer to just install the driver itself. Where on earth do I get it? The microsoft website is about the most confusing site when it comes to looking for driver downloads.

hello there! i have a problem importing data from a remote connection using Sybase ASE ODBC driver(the sybase odbc driver is the only way we can access the databasefrom theremote connection, we've already tried this in crystal reports).in the sql server import export wizard i chose the .net framework data provider for odbc. then below the wizard requires the following info: the connection string, DSN and driver. i specified the correct driver and dsn. in the connection string i specified the user id and the server name but it still produces error. the error says:

the operation could not be completed.

additional information:

ODBC Drivers
Okay, this is a weird question/problem. I have a 64 bit database server running on 64 bit Windows. This is just fine until I moved a 32 bit database over to it. My DB is trying to get some reporting to work and discovered that there are no ODBC drivers for Excel on this new 64 bit box. Are there 64 bit drivers for MS Excel? And access for that matter? If so, where are they?

Missing ODBC Drivers - Please Help!!
Hi all

For some reason, my Excel / Access drivers have disappeared from the list of available data sources when running the Import wizard or when trying to create a dts package. They are installed on the machine as I can see them through the ODBC Administrator. I have googled extensively, found some posts relating to TimeSlips (not relevant as not installed), re-installing MDAC.

Having done all the relevant stuff (updating to latest MDAC), still not coming up. Installed SQL 2005 Management Studio thinking that may help. Still nothing. Can someone please give me some advice, APART FROM RE-INSTALLING OS.

How does Import wizard pickup the available drivers, any registry settings...? Currently running XP SP2 with all the latest updates.

Need to get data uploaded to customer site from Excel spreadsheet. So any help / advice would be greatly appreciated!

Can't Locate &&"Microsoft OLE DB Provider For ODBC Drivers&&" For Win Server 2003 X86

Been serahcing frantically for this provider: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers" for Windows Server 2003 x86. However I can't seem to find it. Supposedly MDAC 2.8 has it but when I go to install MDAC 2.8, nothing happens (this is acknowledged in fact in the support area on Microsoft and the given reason is that Win2K3 Server is already MDAC 2.8-compliant. So no new stuff needs to be installed. But alas this provider isn't in my list of available drivers).

Attempts to install any part of a lesser version of MDAC that says it has it are met with "Can't do that 'cause your current version of MDAC is higher that that."

I have been searching around all day on Msoft and other sites for such a beastie but like Brigadoon vanishing in the mist, it eludes me. Msoft's main MDAC page is here:

We need to use this kind of driver apparently with a certain Crystal Reportsreport or else it just won't run.

Thanks in advance for any advice/insights/DL links that work, etc...

Using SSIS To Pull From ODBC Drivers?
Hi all,

I've been tasked to do some investigation at my workplace as to the best way to move forward with changing from our SQL 2000 DTS' to SQL 2005 SSIS packages.

Our main issue at the minute seems to be that we are using ODBC drivers to pull many of the raw tables which we then manipulate into our own SQL Server tables.

I've been looking about and am I right in saying there is an issue with this in SQL 2005?

Also, I've been looking for some Tutorials to help me on this, would anyone be able to push me in the right direction of any good tutorials that would help me in fixing these issues?

MySql SSIS Hangs With ODBC Drivers
Hi, we are writting a SQL Server Integration Services package to import data from a MySql database to a Sql Database.

We are using ODBC 3.51 Drivers to connect to the MySql Database in SSIS. The package runs perfectly in design mode. When we schedule the package to run, the package seems to hang about 1/3 of the times.

What can this be. We used to the package and ran it from a Sql Server 2005 to a Sql Server 2005 database. This setup works perfectly. When i'm doing MySql to Sql Server 2005, 1/3 of the times, it does not work.

Can anyone help me with this?

Different Behaviour SQLSERVER And SQLNative ODBC Drivers
I started a thread in the security forum because when my Legacy App called sp_setApprole in an implict transaction a Begin transaction was called (approle cannot be set in transaction so fails) in SQL2005, wheras the same code succeeds against SQL2000

Have now established in a simple test bed that this is due to the use of a different ODBC driver. We used the SQLNative driver against SQL2005 when it failed. Using the SQLServer driver against SQL2005 meant that the call to sp_setapprole succeeds (ie the transaaction begins after, when required)

1) any thoughts on this?

2) Can I use the SQLServer driver against SQL2005 ? haven't seen anything that says I can or can't. As I am simply updating datastore (SQL2000 -> SQL2005) of a legacy application I don't need to access any new SQL2005 features until its completely written. If I can use the old driver has it been certified or tested against SQL2005 ?

Any assitance / guidance most welcome

Latest Version Of ODBC Drivers For MSQL 2000
We are suffering from dropped connections to our MSSQL server which is version:

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 (Intel X86) Dec 17 2002 14:22:05 Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

We are getting "ERROR: Prepare failed" from the application.

We suspect the ODBC drivers on the client may be old.

The ODBC driver on the client machine is version
2000.80.194.00. as taken from the driver tab in the odbc admin window.

I installed a 2000 base version of the client tools on my desktop and got an ODBC version of 2000.85.1117

I then installed the SP3a and the ODBC driver version did not change. What is the latest version of the driver for MSSQL 2000?

I was wondering if somebody could help me... the following error message appears when I run an asp page... I did a google search and nobody appears to have had a solution to the particular problem I have... it's completely baffling but I'm hoping it's a simple setting.

Firstly, I'm sure the coding the correct as the asp page runs on two different servers correctly. I recently got a new server and the script does not appear to work with the Date function in asp on this new server. I outputted the SQL to the browser and then ran it through the Query Analyser(QA) and guess what, it worked! But when I run the asp page the above error crops up... now when I run the SQL through QA and alter the date value in the format 'dd/mm/yyyy' the above error appears in QA.. if I've lost you at this point let me know...

The way ASP passes the Date value to my SQL DB appears to be confused and it's really confusing me as it works perfectly on two servers and not the new one... the new server runs newer versions of O/S and SQL so I'm not sure that is the case... I've changed the date settings on the server so they all three servers match each other... so I have no where else to turn... any help and pointers would be much appreciated!

HELP: SQL Server Agent (reinstall)?

When I try to schedule a backup, Windows 2000 says that the Agent is an uninstalled service. I don't seen an entry for it in the SQL Service Manager or in the Windows 2000 Service applet.

Is there any way, other than reinstalling the whole database (which I'm trying to avoid), to bring the Agent service back up? Please email me at

Is SQL Server 2000/5 Compatible With Sybase 15 OLEDB Drivers?

I have been having tremendous trouble getting OLEDB connections to Sybase that I use within SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 to work properly - they always seem to revert to the older, third party Sybasedrivers if they are installed on the machine and just generally cause problems - I have given up on using them within an SSIS package all together and gone down another route.

Can anyone confirm to me whether or not this is because the version 15 native drivers that Sybase provide are not supported by SQL Server, please?

Sql Server 2005 - Cannot Reinstall/uninstall

I had to do a system restore to solve some other issues now my SQL Server 2005 doesnt work (SQL Server 2000 on the same machine [diffrent instance] does). I have tried to uninstall with add/remove programs but the instance doesnt appear there. I have tried to use the 'ARPWrapper.exe /Remove' command as described in KB909967 wich also fails.
I have also tried to reinstall with no sucess. I also tried uninstalling SQL2000 and removing as many references as I could find, again now joy.

Is there a script somewhere to remove everything (although I would like to try and keep the SQL2000 instance)?

Can't Uninstall Or Reinstall Nonfunctioning Sql Server
In previous post in the Getting Started section, I discussed problems trying to run queries on multiple databases:

Nobody could help with the problem. I eventually got a query to run after several attempts at deleting and recreating databases. Then, I was hit with the following error message:

Class does not support aggregation (or class object is remote) (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040110 (CLASS_E_NOGGREGATION)) (Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlTools.VSIntegration)

Nobody could help with that either but based on posts with the same message, I tried uninstalling sql server. It wouldn't uninstall nor can I repair or reinstall. Uninstalling thru Add or Remove Programs only resulted in the program listingbeing removed from Add or Remove Programs. Most of the sql serverprograms are still installed. They canbe run but continue to malfunction. When I try a new installation, I get a message that the programs are already installed.

Is a complete reinstall of windows xp, programs anddatathe only solution? I hate to believe it; but, at this point, I see no other choice.

SQL Server 2005 Express Won't Reinstall
I had SQL Server 2005 Express installed on my computer, but was having problems with it interacting with Visual c++ 2005 Express Edition. I uninstalled both items, but now cannot get SQL Server to reinstall. Everything works fine until the installation gets to the "SQL Server Database Services" portion. At that point, I get a failure stating, "The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information see the SQL Server Books Online topics, 'How To: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files' and 'Starting SQL Server Manually'." Behind this modal dialog box, in the install window, it seems to have stopped at "Running action to shutdown instance(Run As Normal User) RANU instance shutdown in progress: MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS"I have tried everything I can find online about this, including use of the Windows Install Clean Up, Aaron Stebner's blog about how to remove a beta version (, Ttools, and the Visual Studio Uninstall program. I have manually deleted the folder for SQL Server from my Program Files folder, I have deleted all mention of the program from my registry, and yet I still cannot get the darned thing to reinstall.
My computer is a Pentium Duo-Core 2 6600, running at 2.4 GHz, with 2GB RAM, 129GB of 279GB hard drive space free
, with an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS video card. As I say, I had the program running, it just won't reinstall. I am logged on as the one and only user, and I have Administrator priveleges. There have been no changes to the PC aside from removing and trying to reinstall the C++ and SQL Server programs. Can anyone give guidance as to what the heck is going on and what to do?? The haed and tail of my error log is below. I am stuck. Thank you.

Can't Uninstall Or Reinstall SQL Server 2005 Dev
Long story short: Installed SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition along with Visual Studio 2005. Everything worked as it should.

Then there was a problem installing .NET Framework 2.0 Security Update. Fixed that by uninstall and reinstall of .NET Framework 2.0.

Now SQL Server does not work. So I figured uninstall/reinstall. Only problem is that it WILL NOT uninstall. I have tried to uninstall manually per KB article (9009967). That doesn't work either.

The error info that I'm geting is:

LinkID: 20476

Product Name: Microsoft SQL Server

Product Version: 9.00.2047.00

Message source: setup.rll

Message ID: 50000

EvtType: stateengine

I get the same data during setup or uninstall. Neither of which completes.

Needless to say this is driving me nuts. I'm trying to learn VB.NET programming and many of the examples use SQL Server.

Any help would be appreciated.

Unable To Reinstall SQL Server 2005
Previously, I have installed SQL 2005 developer edition simplyfied chinese
successfully. But yesterday, I tried to install mobile client software
factory. The installation process create a database as following:
Create DATABASE [AdventureWorksMobileStaging] ON PRIMARY
( NAME = N'AdventureWorksMobileStaging', FILENAME = N'C:GotDotNetMCSF_728ReferenceImplementationsAdventureWorksToGoDBScriptsAdventureWorksMobileStaging.mdf' , SIZE = 195584KB , MAXSIZE = UNLIMITED, FILEGROWTH = 1024KB )
( NAME = N'AdventureWorksMobileStaging_log', FILENAME = N'C:GotDotNetMCSF_728ReferenceImplementationsAdventureWorksToGoDBScriptsAdventureWorksMobileStaging_log.ldf' , SIZE = 265344KB , MAXSIZE = 2048GB , FILEGROWTH = 10%)
But today, when I start my notebook, SQL server could not be started.

Then I uninstalled the SQL instance by start->control panel->uninstall...The uninstall
process seems OK. Note that I only uninstalled the instance. Then I tried to reinstall
SQL 2005. However it was reported a Performance Monitor Counter registry key mismatch
error occures. I tried to fix it but failed. The problem is as following:

1, The installation process report a warning of low memory.
My notebook has 512M memory. I have reinstalled SQL 2005 once successfully. At that
time, the warning also shows, but it seems that this warning does not affect installation.

2, User type problem.
The OS of my notebook is XP professional, which is upgraded from XP home edition.
I login it using a domain user such as: "my company's domainmyaccount". I found it
curiously that although I assign myaccount as an Administrator, it will automaticly
changed to "SQL$...." account. I don't know why and when the account property is
changed. But everytime, when I found, I will assign myaccount as an Administrator

3, Performance Monitor Counter registry key problem.
To fix the problem, I firstly tried to run lodctr.exe in cmd window but failed.
When I cd to c:windowssystem32 dir, I can ran lodctr.exe correctly.
I check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPerflib,
the result is:
"Last Counter"=dword:0000149c (11128)
"Last Help"=dword:0000149d (11129)
Then I check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPerflib09
and 004, the result is confusing. I can find counter and help key,but both keys contains
really a lot of stuff as:
(1) first page of Counter key:
% Processor Time
File Read Operations/sec
(2) first page of Help key:
The System performance object consists of counters that apply to more than one instance of a component processors on the computer.
The Memory performance object consists of counters that describe the behavior of physical and virtual memory on the computer. Physical memory is the amount of random access memory on the computer. Virtual memory consists of the space in physical memory and on disk. Many of the memory counters monitor paging, which is the movement of pages of code and data between disk and physical memory. Excessive paging, a symptom of a memory shortage, can cause delays which interfere with all system processes.
% Processor Time is the percentage of elapsed time that the processor spends to execute a non-Idle thread. It is calculated by measuring the duration of the idle thread is active in the sample interval, and subtracting that time from interval duration. (Each processor has an idle thread that consumes cycles when no other threads are ready to run). This counter is the primary indicator of processor activity, and displays the average percentage of busy time observed during the sample interval. It is calculated by monitoring the time that the service is inactive, and subtracting that value from 100%.
% Total DPC Time is the average percentage of time that all processors spend receiving and servicing deferred procedure calls (DPCs). (DPCs are interrupts that run at a lower priority than the standard interrupts). It is the sum of Processor: % DPC Time for all processors on the computer, divided by the number of processors. System: % Total DPC Time is a component of System: % Total Privileged Time because DPCs are executed in privileged mode. DPCs are counted separately and are not a component of the interrupt count. This counter displays the average busy time as a percentage of the sample time.
File Read Operations/sec is the combined rate of file system read requests to all devices on the computer, including requests to read from the file system cache. It is measured in numbers of reads. This counter displays the difference between the values observed in the last two samples, divided by the duration of the sample interval.

I could not find the maximum value of the Counter key and help key, so I could not repair
Last Counter and Last Help key as discribed at SQL 2005 help. Which item correspond to
maximum value of the Counter key and help key?

I tried to correct Last Counter and Help key as:
"Last Counter"=dword:0000149c (5276)
"Last Help"=dword:0000149d (5277)
But it also doesn't work.

Can't Reinstall Sql Server 2005 Express
Hi I installed SQL server 2005 Express and it was successfully set up but I kept on getting error 26 when I try to connect to a database, so I remove all SQL programs from the control panel and reinstall SQL server 2005, but this time the set up stopped halfway saying "cannot start server". How can I successfully reinstall SQL server 2005 express?
