Install Of 2005 Management Tools Fails

I have VS2008 installed. Now, I need to install the SQL server Management Tools, because of tasks I have on SQL server instances which are installed on other servers. I guess a lot of developers are in such a situation. You develop on your own machine, but deploy the final database on a production machine.And you happen to be the manager of those databases too (well, I am)

Now, it seems impossible to install the neccesary tools as I get messages;
The following components that you chose to install are already installed on the machine. To view a report of available options and alternatives click on details (Workstation components, Books Online and development tools 9.2.3042.00)

Then on the Details, it says the following,

Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools Express Edition

Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.

Build version check:

Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove.

Now, I have no clue of what can be safely removed to allow the installation of the Management Tools. I am afraid that I will end up with a non-working SQL server Express installation which is required for VS2008

What should I do to get these Managment Tools installed on my develop machine?

SQL 2005 Fails To Install Workstation Components And Tools
Hello.

When I install SQL Server 2005, it all goes well except that it fails to install these two:

- SQLXML 4

- workstation components and tools

When I try to install these two from the CD in the Setup folder of the CD 2 with the files sqlxml4.msi and sqlRun_Tools.msi (if I remember these names correctly), it gives me an error:

'Ce package d'installation n'est pas pris en charge par ce type de processeur'

Sorry. My SQL CDs are in french, but it roughly translates to the message:

This installation package is not taken by this processor.

I thought that my hardware configuration does not meet the requirements. But I have a Pentium 4, 2Gig RAM, over 100Gig free HD space. Also I tried to install on other computers to no avail. This is a fresh install, that is, there is no previous SQL Server 2000 in it, no VS.NET 2005 or before. Nothing. I have just a fresh, new computer.

Can anyone help, please?

Jean

Hi, I installed sql 2005 dev for testing sharepoint, and the management studio was not installed. Now, i am afraid to try to install it because i am thinking it may uninstall or re-install all sql components (and probably erase existing instances and sharepoint data may be lost. I have installed on an other pc the client tools, but i cannot connect to that instance, and i cannot attach the user databases (i get the 5123 error)

Can anyone help me how i can install management services without messing up the sharepoint instance?

Installing SQL Server 2005 Management Tools - Setup Crashing Repeatedly
I'm having many many issues installing sql server management tools. i had visual studio 2005 installed first, but uninstalled and sql related things before trying to install sql server management tools again - i also deleted the program files/microsoft sql server/ folder so there are no references.

Firstly the system configuration check gives me a warning that the system doesn't meet the recommended hardware requirements - this is wrong... i've got 2.33Ghz dual core + 1gb of ram...

I select just management tools + client connectivity to install and click next -> the setup support files/native client/owc11 etc all install fine but workstation components etc fail and the setup log appears to either be empty and not available
and MSXML6 fails... after clicking finish the installer appears to crash - : "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience"... I have tried all sorts of variations on this install and have had no problems in the past - please help!

The setup log from the MSXML6 failure -

and *cannot* get SQL Server 2005 Tools Express Edition CTP to uninstall. I get the following dialog box:

"The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore. The action is Write_CommitFlag. The error is:Unable to write property into cache flagCommit Unable to write property into cache: "flagCommit" XmlRW Error: Failure loading xmlrw.dll CheckAllProcedures() returned 2."

Any ideas as to how I can work around this ?

Cannot Install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition - Configuration Tools Only
I have tried several times to install
SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (most recently from MSDN Disk
3097.1)   I have tried to complete an uninstall before each
attempt.

I do get the warning about Minimum Hardware Requirement, but can find
nothing in the detail requirements to exclude my PCs configuration.

I have installed:  IIS and .NET Framework 2.0

I have also used ..aspnet_regiis -r   to register ASP.NET

I am, successfully, running Visual Studio 2005.

Why does the installation process stop there and what can I do next?

SQL Server Management Express Studio Management Tools

I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

 I've checked the locations of the file, and they are all installed in the default folder:

%PROGRAMFILES%Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData

Is there a way to get it to install anyways? Manually trying to install it has the exact same result as Microsoft Update. Everything EXCEPT the DataBase Services is upgraded.

What's the problem in this case?

SQL Server 2005 SP2 Fails On Install
I am trying to install Sql Server 2005 SP2 (KB921896) on a Windows Server 2003 box that has all the other patches installed.  However, the service pack fails on Databse Services and Analysis Serrvices.  The Summary.txt file is listed below.  I have already done some research and tried putting the NT Authority/SYSTEM in the local Administrators group but I still get the same error.  Can anyone help?
Thanks

SQL Server 2005 Fails To Install
I'm having a problem installing SQL Server 2005 and I hope someone can give me an idea how to proceed. I have two machines and it works fine on one but fails to install on the other. The maddening thing is that the message reporting the failure gives me absolutely no feedback other than that the install failed.

I downloaded VB 2005 Express with MSDN and SQL Server 2005 Express. The .NET framework, VB and MSDN installed fine and then it failed on SQL Server. I have uninstalled and tried again several times with the same results. There's nothing unusual about my PC. It's relatively new with plenty of memory and disk storage. It's a Dell PC with a 2.4GHZ processor. There is another database product running on this system. Is that likely to be an issue?

SQL Server Express 2005 Fails To Install
I am trying to install MS SQL Server Express but the installation always fails. I have copied the summary log below and can provide more details if you require. Web Developer and C# Express install OK.

I have been trying to install this for around 2 weeks now with no luck ... I even had the PC formatted and rebuilt but the install still fails. If it installed and worked before, i cannot understand why it doesn't work now. The summary log is provided below:

============
The file :"C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGFilesSQLSetup0001_MYSERVER_.NET Framework 2.0.log" does not exist.

What I've tried so far:
1. Using Add/Remove Programs, uninstall the following:
  A. Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
  B. Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files (English)
  C. Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer
  D. Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (based on a post elsewhere that this resolved someone else problem)
2. Verified that the following Registry Keys were removed:
  A. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLServer
  B. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server
  C. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Native Client
(If they were not, I deleted them manually.)

When I was asked to help, the SSE installation had already been attempted 4 times. Part of their resolution attempts had been to install .NET 3.0, but I have not yet re-installed that.
It appears that .NET is still the culprit. Here is some information on the system:

My next thought is to try this:

Does anyone have any better suggestions?
Is the .NET Framework the likely problem here?

SQL Server 2005 Install Fails On Vista
During the install, I get the following message:

Setup has detected a problem with Microsoft .Net Framework installation and cannot proceed. Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 is either not installed on this system or is corrupt.

I cannot uninstall 2.0, as its part of the Vista. I have tried repairing it.

I tried downloading 2.0 and installing it, but it says that its allready installed.

I was able to install Visual Studio with Sql Server 2005 express.

I am stuck. Is the case that Sql install dosent know about the latest version of 2.0 that came with vista ?

I have had 3 tries at getting SQL Server 2005 Express installed on my XP Pro 64-bit.

In the System Configuration Check at the start of the install process I get two warnings: COM Plus Catalog Requirement and ASP .NET Version Registration Requirement (64-bit ASP .Net is Registered. Required 32-bit ASP .Net to install Microsoft Reporting Services 2005(32-bit).).

In the Setup Progress I get green ticks for MSXML6, SQL Setup Support Files, SQL Native Client and SQL VSS Writer, but half way through SQL Server Database Services I get a popup - Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. Then another popup - SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Shared Memory Provider: Timeout error [258]. ... Final popup is - This system is shutting down... This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM with the message: Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly.

Any help much appreciated

SQL 2005 Express SP2 Silent Install Fails
Hello,
I'm using the latest version of SQLEXPR32.EXE found here :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=31711d5d-725c-4afa-9d65-e4465cdff1e7&DisplayLang=en

Here is the command line that fails :

"sqlexpr32.exe -q /norebootchk /qn reboot=ReallySuppress
INSTANCENAME=MYINSTANCE SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD=mypassword SQLAUTOSTART=1"

Interrestingly, when the following command line is used to launch the setup,
it completes successfully :

"sqlexpr32.exe /norebootchk reboot=ReallySuppress INSTANCENAME=MYINSTANCE
SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD=mypassword SQLAUTOSTART=1"

The only difference between the two is the quiet switches used in the first
case : "-q" and "/qn"

After spending some time to understand what is going wrong, it seems that in
quied mode, Setup Prerequisite 'SQL Native Client' is not installed. Then
the remaining part of the setup fails because of this.

Any help appreciated.

SQL Server 2005 Fails To Install (Err: 29503)
Hi there:

After a carefull reading of several post about this error I decided to post mine just in case it gives some clue to somebody with the knowledge I haven´t as I saw there is two kind of customers with this or very similar errors:

1. Some of them finally had success (error: 15209) installing it following the instructions in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920114/en-us

2. Some still fighting with the problem (err: 29503).

Both errors give the same instructions, to my understand (very poor) and I followed every suggestion, but let me do some history:

1. I have 3 computers at home, all them from different makers and XP bundled on them, now all them SP2 thanks to the Updates service.

2. One has nothing extra on it. Used only to surf the net/play games and nothing more (Wife). One for work (Mine and Main), with VS 2005, Intel Pentium IV HT 3 Ghz and a Toshiba laptop with VS2005 and the same processor with not problems at all.

3. Due to former issues installing SQL server in Mine I decided finally to start from scratch, so I formatted the disk, installed XP and downloaded SP 2 and all automatic updates, then installed VS 2005 Standard and got exactly the same issue as before.

Sorry to make it long. The point is that following the instructions in MS KB documents and several posts to the letter I found out several strange things:

1. None of my computers is able to show an Address bar in Windows Explorer, when checked to be shown only produces a new greyed item in the icons bar at the very right end. If pressing F11 (full screen) then the address bar is shown and can be used.

2. Only the laptop had a folder named Protect in the indicated path.

3. None of them shows a Security tab in the Properties window of any folder or file.

4. In this thread http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=841859&SiteID=1 I thought at the very last post was the solution for my issue but then I found out another strange story: None of my computer have the "Simple file sharing" or "Use Simple file sharing" in the View label of Folder Options.

5. And this is possible the final clue: When examining the options in View label I realized that all the optios were related in my mother tongue (Spanish) whils the rest of the window was in English as I live in England and nearly all my software is in this language. Even some upgrades from MS when I was asked to choice a language I selected Spanish.

6. Only possibly I´m not the only one under these circumstances: https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=377860&SiteID=1 (Polish)

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=541221&SiteID=1 (Chinese)

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=431694&SiteID=1 (Spanish?)

and here's a part of my log:

7. The only difference between my laptop and desktop computers is that in regional settings Laptop has English for Regional options whilst desktop had Spanish.

Tried to change in desktop to English wont produce success installing SQL Server Express so I think there are more deep changes/corrections to do.

Those changes from English to Spanish is some XP windows are not coming from the first install, as the laptop came installed, so they should be produced after some upgrade were I was offered to download a regional version (SP 2?).

Hopefully this long post will give to some body with more brains and knowledge than me to get a work around to this problem, other than reformat, install and download SP 2 this time in English.

TIA

I have several servers that do not have SSMS installed.  A couple of them are running as a clustered server.  How do I install SSMS on these servers?  they are running and have production databases on them.  I have tried re-installing the management tools but that didn't work.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

SQL Server 2005 Database Installation Fails To Install
Hi,

I have been trying to install SQL Server 2005 developer version on my second laptop IBM Thinkpad Windows XP PRO,  for the first time. All other components installed successfully except the database. I 've tried selecting the named instance and default instance it didn't make any difference. I have a Admin role on the laptop and as a service id I selected my user id. password and domain. I am running the setup behind my company's firewall.

The error in the log is :

SQL Server 8 And SQL Server 2005 Management Tools In Consistencies
 I have been investigating this issue and here is what I have found, when using SQL Server 8 Query Analyzer the results show that for example xp_regread has Execute permissions granted to €˜public€™ role. When checking the Same using the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio the results show that there are no Execute permissions granted to €˜Public€™ Role.

So the following Query doesn't return any results on Management Studio SQL Server 2005:

SELECT sysusers.name
, Status =
CASE protecttype

             WHEN 204 THEN 'GRANT_W_GRANT'

             WHEN 205 THEN 'GRANT'

             WHEN 206 THEN 'REVOKE'

 ELSE 'Unknown'

END

, Permission =

CASE action

             WHEN 193 THEN 'SELECT'

             WHEN 195 THEN 'INSERT'

             WHEN 196 THEN 'DELETE'

             WHEN 197 THEN 'UPDATE'

             WHEN 26 THEN 'REFERENCE'

             WHEN 224 THEN 'EXECUTE'

 ELSE 'Unknown'

END

, sysobjects.name

FROM sysprotects, sysobjects, sysusers

WHERE sysobjects.id = sysprotects.id

AND sysprotects.action IN (193, 195, 196, 197, 224, 26)

AND sysprotects.uid = sysusers.uid

AND sysusers.name = 'public'

AND (sysobjects.name like '%xp_%' OR sysobjects.name like '%sp_OA%')

Where as running the Same Query in SQL Server 8.0 Query Analyzer will return results, saying there are a few extended procs available to Public for Execute.

Do you know whats going on here?

Thanks!

how I am getting following error message

[SQL-DMO]You must use SQL Server 2005 management tools to connect to this server

How can I disabled all other features.

Thanks,

SQL Server 2005 64bit Install - Missing Management Studio
Good Afternoon,

I just installed SQL Server 2005 64bit on a fresh system with no other applications loaded on running on the new server.

The only other component that was installed with the SS2K5 database services is SSIS. The base installation and the SP2 patch went on perfect.

I went looking for the Management Studio thru the Start menu options and it is NOT under the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 group. The only options under the SS2K5 group are "Configuration Tools" and "Docs and Tutorials".

Here are file names that I downloaded from the MS website and installed.

   SW CD SQL Svr Enterprise Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #1 x64 MLF.x11-57796 (which is a zipped)

   SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x64-ENU

There was also another zipped file that I tried to install but it seems to be a duplicate of the zipped file above:

SW CD SQL Svr Enterprise Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #2 x64 MLF.x11-57797

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks ALL!

Sql Server 2005 Install On SBS2003 Fails Due To Registry Key Permissions
I am posting this to hopefully help someone else that encounters the same issue in the future...

Server:  SBS 2003 Premium, with exchange and with all service packs/patches applied.
Server-name: NEWSERVER
Server migrated from: OLDSERVER
Important notes:

This server was migrated from another SBS 2003 on different HW following the instructions provided by microsoft.
The oldserver had exchange and sql 2005 installed on it.
The new server has Office Accounting 2005 installed, but I don't think that matters...

I am trying to install SQL 2005 from the SBS2003-R2 DVD onto the new server, and get the following error:

Error:
---

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup failed to modify security permissions on registry key SOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2MSSQLServerSuperSocketNetLib for user Administrator. To proceed, verify that the account and domain running SQL Server Setup exist, that the account running SQL Server Setup has administrator privileges, and that the registry key  exists on the destination drive.

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1399.06&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=29508&EvtType=sqlca%5csqlsddlca.cpp%40Do_sqlRegSDDL%40ExceptionInSDDL%40x7344

I looked in the registry, and the administrators group has full control over this key.

Digging into the SQLSETUP log file, at the end I see:

Compiler Timestamp: Tue Sep 13 01:08:29 2005
     Function Name: ExceptionInSDDL

---

Looking into AD Users+Computers, there is not a group present for SQLServer2005SQLBrowserUser$NEWSERVER but there is one for SQLServer2005SQLBrowserUser$OLDSERVER.

It appears that the install did not create the new group that was necessary..

Once I duplicated the OLDSERVER group, renaming it to have NEWSERVER, the installation completed without error.

I hope this saves someone else a few hours of pain.

?? SQL Server 2005 Express SP2 Install Fails On Native Client ??
Hello all,

I'm trying to install "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2" on a newly installed XP Pro SP2 machine. I downloaded "SQLEXPR32.EXE" (38,220,656 bytes) from the Microsoft site.

At the beginning of the setup the installation program scans my system -- no problems or warnings. Everything looks fine and ready to go.

During installation I uncheck, "Hide advanced configuration options" simply because I want to change the default instance name. Aside from changing the default instance name I make no other changes to the default installation configuration.

The installation begins but when it tries to comes to the "SQL Native Client" portion of the installation I get the following error dialog message:

"An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli.msi'."

Below I've included the setup log file of the SQL Native Client portion of the setup. I've looked through the log file but didn't see anything obviously wrong until the error occurs toward the end.

Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this to happen? I've install SSE many times in the past with no problems.

Thanks

SQL Server 2005 Express - Setting Sa Password Fails During Install
During an install of SQL Server 2005 Express setting the sa password does not work consistently. The install is being run as administrator and I am using an .ini file to pass the settings,

SECURITYMODE=SQL
ADDLOCAL=ALL
SQLBROWSERAUTOSTART=1
SQLAUTOSTART=1
INSTANCENAME=DBSERVER
SAPWD=Westtech#1

and while most times it works correctly, occasionally, maybe 4 out of 10 times it fails to set the password and I have been unable to find any warnings or errors in the logs it generates.

We are coming up on release and this is causing us some real problems. Does anyone have any ideas, something I could look at?

Thank you,

How To Install Management Studio Express 2005 After VS2008 On Server 2008?
Ok so here's what happened:

Installed Server 2008 (64bit)
Installed VS2008 (+SQL 2005 Express, by default)

I've always installed SQL 2005 Dev (including the SQL Management Studio) before installing VS. Now I am trying to install just the management studio on this machine without success.

I tried installing the SQL workstation tools package from the SQL 2005 DVD but the installer detects the tools installed by SQL express (osql, etc.., but no management studio GUI) and the installer refuses to install anything else. I also tried downloading the separate installer for SQL management studio but it doesn't like something also: first thing the installer does is display this mesage:

"Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system For more information on supported configurations, see the product documentation."

Any way to do this without having to reinstall VS?

Thanks.

Can't Install 2005 SQL Server Management Studio, It Doesnt Show Up. What A Joke!

Hello I have wasted several hours on this simple problem and I'm ready to give up.  I simply want SQL Server Management Studio on my laptop so I can connect to our 2005 servers and manage them.  I have several different versions of 2005 from our MSDN subscription including but not limited to:

SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition (MSDN Library DVD)
SQL 2005 Workgroup Edition
SQL 2005 Standard Edition
Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server (SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition)

Everytime I tried to install it, the Server Management Studio simply would not install.  I looked for the exe files and didn't find them.  I verified the path several times and they simply didn't install.  I googled and found a few solutoins but none helped.  For example on:
http://aspadvice.com/blogs/name/archive/2007/09/24/Installing-SQL-Server-Management-Studio-with-SQL-Server.aspx

They stated to go to the 'Tools' folder on the CD and run it from there, I do not have these folders on my SQL 2005 CD/DVDs.  I tried to reinstall it a few times with selection only the management tools for the client, but it thinks I have SQL 2005 installed!!!  I uninstalled it from add/remove, and it didn't work.  I deleted the folders and it didn't work.  I ran

msicuu2.exe and that still isn't working.

Are there ANY suggestions on how to get this freaking Server Management Studio installed?  MS really blew it on this one.  Thanks in advance.

Unattended Re-install Of SQL Server 2005 Express Fails To Re-create Database!
Hi,

I have a script that performs an unattended installation of SQL Server and works fine.

However, if I un-install via the control panel all the files are removed apart from the databases that are created by me when SQl server was installed.  This is good and ensures data is not deleted.

The files left over are in the following directory:
    C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData
and contains:
    MyDatabase.mdf
    MyDatabase_log.LDF

The problem I have is after performing the re-installtion of SQL server (unattended) I am unable to create a new database with the same name (in this instance called "myDatabase").

The actual files are physically there so this is the reason a new database with the same name cannot be creacted.

Again this is ok again because it ensures I cannot overwrite existing data.  However I am unable to re-attach this database to SQl server so I can continue to use it!

The question is:

How do I make this database usable again after an unattended install?  Is there a parameter I am missing?

Below are the commands I use that are passed to the installation of SQL Server as command line parameters:

#define SQL_SILENT                    "-q /passive /norebootchk /qn reboot=ReallySuppress"
#define SQL_USERNAME             "username=MyUserName"
#define SQL_COMPANYNAME      "companyname=MyCompanyName"
#define SQL_ADDLOCAL               "addlocal=ALL"
#define SQL_DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS   "disablenetworkprotocols=0"
#define SQL_INSTANCENAME       "instancename=MSSQLSERVER"
#define SQL_SQLAUTOSTART       "SQLAUTOSTART=1"
#define SQL_SECURITYMODE       "SECURITYMODE=SQL"
#define SQL_SAPWD                     "SAPWD=#Password#"
#define SQL_SAVESYSDB             "1"
#define SQL_USESYSDB               ""
#define SQL_INSTALLSQLDIR         ""
#define SQL_INSTALLDATADIR       ""

#define SQL_PARAMETERS    SQL_SILENT + " " + SQL_USERNAME + " " + SQL_COMPANYNAME + " " + SQL_ADDLOCAL + " " + SQL_DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS + " " + SQL_INSTANCENAME + " " + SQL_USESYSDB + " " + SQL_INSTALLSQLDIR + " " + SQL_INSTALLDATADIR + " " + SQL_SAVESYSDB + " " + SQL_SQLAUTOSTART + " " + SQL_SECURITYMODE + " " + SQL_SAPWD

The last four commands I have played around with but for some reason SQL Server service will not start when these are used! (This is a different issue though!).

Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Paul

SQL Server 2005 Unattended Install Bootstrapper Fails On French XP System
The scenario I have is as follows:

Our product ships with a bootstrapper that installs SQL Server 2005 silently for our clients - basically it's a pre-req which we load for them if it's not already installed.

The bootstrapper supplies the service account identity parameters for the SQL Server install command line in English. It supplies the local system account (NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM).

The problem occurs when we tried to install the product onto a French version of XP.  We got the error message "SQL Server setup could not validate the service accounts. Either the service accounts have not been provided for all the services being installed, or the specified username or password is incorrect. For each service, specify a valid username, password, and domain, or specify a built-in system account."

Having read the page http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx#Localized_service_names we have discovered that the system account identity has a different name for French (AUTORITE NTSYSTEM) along with some other languages ... but we're not sure how to resolve the problem.

Can anyone out there tell me whether we ...
1) Can get the machine being installed on to tell us the local system account identity so we can substitute it into our command line in the bootstrapper?
2) Have to write a different bootstrapper for each language that names the local system account identity differently?
3) Have overlooked some other solution?

Also, does anyone know how many languages and which they are that give the local system account a name that's different to "NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM"??

Thanks,
Sara

<EDIT>

Sorry, omitted a vital bit of information.  The bootstrapper is written in C++.
We know the .NET code to retrieve an NT account given a well known SID.  Can we do the same in C++ somehow??

How Can I Install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition's Management Studio On A Desktop Machine?
I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!

When the dialog box appeared indicating file couldn't found, there was no option to look elsewhere for it the only option was retry or cancel which after 5 or 6 retries I cancelled.   Everything else appears to have installed correctly for this instance.

Also earlier attempts to install have left services for named instances that I cannot install to such as SQLEXPRESS , SQLEXPRESS1 and CURRIEREXPRESS, I long ago had a beta version installed and have attempted numerous methods to completely wipe these out using the uninstallbetas tool from Microsoft as well as a number of suggestions from some posts.

Please help - The most significant reason I'm installing this is to practice creating SQL Reporting Service reports

Best MSSQL Management Tools
Hi everyone.

I manage 100+ databases spread across the country. When it comes to perform an update or offsite backup, it is a nightmare. I have to repeat the same code and the same process for 100+ times.

Is there any tools other than MS Enterprise manager we can use to perform this type of maintenance works in a batch manner? For example, we place a update sql file within the program, and the program does the rest (of course, we predefine the login credential for each databases)

Cheers~
