Hi,My webhost (1and1) is running SQL Server 2000 and their web tool supports the import of .bak files. However, when I try to import my .bak files created in SQL Server Management Studio Express I get the following error:"The backed-up database has on-disk structure version 611. The server supports version 539 and cannot restore or upgrade this database. RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally."I have Googled this error and learnt that 2005 .bak files are not compatible with 2000 .bak files. I'm just wondering if there are any work arounds to this or alternative tools that I can create 2000 compatible .bak files from from 2000/2005 .mdf files.Thanks in advance.

I never noticed it before, but I am now using Management Studio to administer our sql databases and the issue became apparent. One of the databases located on a sql 2000 server, says "6.5 compatible", when viewed from Management Studio (but not from Enterprise Manager). What are the step needed to upgrade the database? (I think I need to run the Sql 2005 Upgrade Advisor first, fix any errors found, then manually change compatibility mode (to 80) from the sql 2000 server where the database is located. ) TIA, Barkingdog

SQL Server Management Studio Not Loading With Workstation Components
Everytime I do an install of SQL Server 2005 and I don't select to install all components (even if I make sure Workstation components and all sub components are selected) SQL Management Studio never loads. The setup completes without error however there is no SQL Management Studio anywhere on the system. I know I have searched hard for it. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I missing something? Hello,I had SQL2000 server running fine on the windows 2003 box. I then installedSQL 2005 Express. They both worked together fine. I then uninstalled SQL2005 Express and installed SQL 2005 Server. But when I open SQL ServerManagement Studio, I can only connect to the SQL 2000 engine. In the Objectexplorer, it says v8.0.2039 (which I think is SQL 2000 Server, because I cansee the existing SQL 2000 databases).How can I get SQL Server Management Studio to 'see' the SQL 2005 databaseengine so I can create tables? I *think* its running because there is the'sqlservr.exe' process running, and during installation there is no issues.When I open SQL Server Management Studio, I choose 'Database Engine', thenmy local Servername with Windows Authentication. SQL Server 2005 And Management Studio Driving Me CRAZY -Im UPGRADING To 2000
Is it just me, or are features missing in Management Studio? I mean, where is the "Export Objects" option when exporting data? Why is it so difficult to register a remote server? Why do the object views suck? And most important, why is the documentation the worst software documentation I have EVER SEEN?! Things that were easy in Enterprise Manager with Client Network Utility and Query Analyzer seem impossible, difficult, or maybe just hidden in Management Studio. If it is there, the documentation sure doesnt tell you how to find it. Please someone tell me that it's just me. Tell me that the features are there but Im not doing something right. I feel like putting my head in between my door opening and banging the door against it.

SQL Server 2005 SP1 Client Components Failure
When attempting to install SQL Server 2005 SP1, I receive the error, "a recently applied update, KB913090, failed to install." The Installation complete dialog shows the Client Components product Status as "Failure" with the description detail, "Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file". SQL Server 2005 To SQL Server 2000 Scripts/files Not Compatible =(
Hi, I have been developing a rather large database in SQL Server 2005, and was informed that the database is going to be SQL Server 2000, so in the database creation options I chose the backward compatibility option for compatibility with SqlServer 2000. When I have gone to port the database to 2000, it said it was not a readable format and that it was incompatible. So instead of getting angry I wrote a neat little C# program that took the data and structure of my 2005 database, which then deployed it onto the 2000 server which worked fine. However it hates Stored Procedures of which I have a fair few. I try and deploy the stored procedures via a script tool in 2005, but it does not like sys.object. So my few humble questions are: 1. Is there a work around script to deploy the stored procedures, without having to manually type out each one? 2. Does anyone know of a better way to deploy the 2005 database onto the 2000 sql server?

I downloaded and performed a full install of SQL Server Express 2008 Nov CTP. It was installed on a fresh installation of Windows Vista Enterprise x64. During setup, I checked the 'Client Tools' box which has the description: "Includes management and development tools: SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Profiler, and Database Engine Tuning Advisor" The installation ran fine with no errors. Installing Management Studio On Windows XP Pro SP2 With SQL Server Express Installed
I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition Management Tools [only] on my workstation which is running Widows XP Pro SP2. I already have VSTS 2005 installed with SQL Server Express and Management Studio Express Edition. Attempting to do an advanced install with just the Management Tools specified under Client Components, results in the Version Check warning that setup must be run with SKUUPGRADE=1 specified. When I do that, the installation fails with an unexpected error. During setup I have selected all the native client components i.e. Management Studio, Business Intelligense Studio. And also when I tried to change component from Add/Remove programs and following the instructions as specified on clicking Change Installed components all that I see are: Connectivity Components and Software Development kit. Could someone tell me how can I install Management Studio/ Business Intelligence Studio seperately? I don't want to go through the process of re-installation.

I am new to visual studio and I am still not sure of all its components and features. I installed visual studio 2005 standard edition but cannot find SQL Server Management Studio? I guess this must be because it is not included with Visual studio 2005 standard. Is it included with VS 2005 professional? I want to add pictures of products to my shopping site using an SQL database and I’ve been told that SQL Server Management studio is required as it is a graphical tool. How would I go about obtaining the SQL server management studio. There seems to be different versions of SQL server that it is confusing to know which one to purchase. Will the SQL server 2005 version that comes with Visual studio standard be sufficient for me now right? I want to create a shopping site with hundreds, perhaps even thousands of products. I want to use an SQL server 2005 database. The database will include ‘dynamically generated’ product images if that is the correct terminology. My goodness, it seems I still have so much to learn. Adding 'unaware' SQL Server 2005 Components To Existing Windows 2003 Cluster
This is a fresh install of SQL Server 2005 (64bit) on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64bit OS. The Cluster has been built and SQL 2005 has been installed (Database Engine(clustered), Analysis Server(clustered), Notification Server, Integration Server, Reporting Services). SQL 2005 SP2 has been installed. Now, I want to install Notification Server, Integration Server and Reporting Services on the second node for high availability. When I select 'Install New Components' from Add/Remove Programs, the System Configuation Checker tells me theres a version difference and to: To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter. I'm using the same binaries as the original install. Could this be a result of installing SQL 2005 SP2? Can someone help me out with this. I'd prefer using the setup interface instead of a command line script.

SQL Sever 2005 Management Studio - Connect As Different Windows User
I want to connect to a SQL server from my workstation using the application in the Subject, but I need to connect as a different Windows user. Basically, I login to my workstation with my "Joe User" account, but for servers I used my "Joe Admin" account for security purposes. However, the Management console autofills in my workstation username when I select "Windows authentication" for the connection, and grays out the username/password fields so that I cannot specify another set of credentials. Is there a way to change this behavior? Otherwise I will need to termserv into a server using my administrative account, install the management software there, and then begin the process. That is a lot of unecessary overhead that I would like to avoid. Thank You, John G

How Do I Connect Client Machines To SQL Server 2005 Installed On A Windows 2003 Server
I am new to SQL server 2005 Windows 2003 Server and all client PCs are all on the same network. I installed SQL 2005 std version on windows server 2003 and created a database and tables in it. I have two users, who want to connect to SQL server 2005 from their PCs (they have windows XP): These are two things that I need to facilitate: 1) They want to be able to write queries using Query Designer and run from their PCs. 2) I created an MS Access database on my PC, I want to use Access database as a front end to the SQL server database. I will create queries, forms in Access DB, and I want to be able to get the data from SQL server Database to do this. I guess I can use ODBC to connect to tables in SQL server database. 3) I want to connect SQL server to Oracle database, and run oracle stored procedures. I want to load the results of oracle stored procedures into SQL server database tables. I guess I will use IIS for this. Any suggestions are appreciated, especially with item number 1.

SQL Server 2005 Client Tools Not Shown Up In Start Menu On Windows 2003 Server
Hello, I have installed SQL server 2005 enterprise edition on Windows 2003 virtual PC (full installation). The installation went through successfully. However, after install completed, I cannot find any of the client tools under the start menu -> all programs -> Microsoft SQL server 2005 menu. The only item listed under the SQL server 2005 is Configuration Tools, which is used to configure the database server. I have tried to install the client component again (in case I didn't install them at the first place) but the installation process cannot be started since it detected that the client components have been installed already. I can also see the sql server native client running in the services. The server engine is working fine since I can connect to that sql server using another machine where I have the client tool (SQL server management studio). One of my friends has exactly the same problem. He installed the sql server 2005 Standard edition on windows 2003 server (full installation), but the client tools are not showing up in the start menu either. I also checked the location for the SQL server management studio (Microsoft SQL server/90/Tools/Binn/VSShell/Common7/IDE), there is only one folder called publicAssemblies listed under. Is this correct or something is missing? Thanks

SQL Server Management Studio Cannot Connect To Local Instance Of SQL Server 2005 SP2
Hello, I just installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise edition from my company's DVD. It was installed with the setting of using both Integrated windows authenitication as well as basic named authenication. I installed all the options too: Database Engine, Analysis Services, Reporting Services, SQL Server compact edition, and Integration Services. When I look at services there are: SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis Services, SQL Server Reporting Services, and SQL Server Browser. All of which are running. Something that took me offguard was the installation did not ask me to provide an SA password. Other than that, the install looked like it went good. I was able to connect to the local instance of the SQL Server 2005 using the SQL Server Management Studio. I could connect with SA, or connect with Integrated Windows Authenication. Whoohoo. Off and running! As a matter of fact, for the SA account I could use any password and it would still log me in. First thing I did was I went in to the copy wizard to attempt to copy a database from a server on our network to my local box. First it asked me for the remote server. Then when I specified my local instance in the wizard, the wizard complained that my local instance was NOT SQL Server 2005. Doh! This I didn't understand. I figured maybe I need to check for MS updates. Sure enough, I found that ther was a SP2 and then a hot-fix for that SP2. I applied both. Now I cannot connect from SQL Server Management studio to my local instance of SQL Server 2005 database server. I get the following error: "An error occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)" However, I went in to see what other services I could connect to, and here's the results: Analysis Services : OK! Reporting Services (Windows Auth/Basic/Forms) : NG "The reporting Services Instance could not be found (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient)" SQL Server Compact Edition : NG "The database cannot be found. Check the path to the database. [ File Name = CCG092 ] (SQL Server Compact Edition ADO.NET Data Provider) Integration Services : OK! I can connect to other SQL Server databases on our network. However, just not my local one. No one on the network can connect to me either. I even turned off my windows firewall and still no luck connecting to my own. So something really went wrong when I applied SP2, however, admittedly from the error message when I tried to use the copy wizard, something was probably already wrong. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, I am a SQL DBA involved in accomplishing various activities using Enterprise Manager by regestering servers of various countries. Now as the NT Team has gone for auditing implementation in all the servers in OS lever, they find Access violations from the workstation from where I connect to the server. This does not happens if I unregester the Servers from Enterprise manager and use only query analyzer. Note: We have our own users in OS as wel as in SQL SERVER . Its Urgent!!! Please help!!!

SQL Server Management Studio don't see local SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition x64 on Vista Ultimate x64 Hi, I have strange problem with SQL Server Management Studio on Vista Ultimate x64. Nothing change after installing all newest service packs or hot fixes. I have two running SQL servers on my local machine and all surrounding SQL services running as well. I have turn on TCP/IP and Named pipes on both of this servers. Actually I have reinstalled second server after first one wasn't contactable in any way... After finished installation of second one and after applying service packs I turn on SQL Server Management Studio and still nothing in local servers pane when Browsing for servers to connect but in network servers after few seconds I see one of my local servers (first one installed) and one SQL Server 2000 on other machine (on this one I can't connect because of time out error). Also when browsing for servers in Local Servers I see my machine in Integration Services. Only difference between this running services is that Integration service log on as Network Service and all other SQL services log on as Local System account and on SQL Server that is invisible I have also SQL Server Reporting Services running. How To Stop / Start Sql Server 2000 Using Management Studio
Hi I have upgraded my local to sql server 2005, but still need to access the remote instance which is still at version 2008/8.0. Enterprise Manager has been removed (by the SQL server 2005 installation) Does anyone know how I can restart older version of SQL server instance (ie 2000/8.0) using SQL server Management Studio? I don't have admin access on the server which the sql remote instance is hosted. Can get around it by asking the sys admin guy to do it for now but would prefer to continue to be able to do it myself. SQL Server Configuration Manager can only manage SQL server 2005 versions - a nice little caveat! Is there a way to stop/start remote services using 'net stop/start'? - without having to write code.... I'll continue to search for a solution, but if someon can point me in the right direction, I'd be most greatful. hien

Constant CPU Usage On Server When Using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio
I have recently installed SQL Server 2005 (Developer Ed) + SP1 onto a VMWare based Windows 2003 + SP1 server. SQL Server works fine when connecting to it using Mangement Studio on Windows XP. However, I have noticed strange CPU usage on the server which seems to be caused by Management Studio (either directly or indirectly). When no-one is connecting to the server using Management Studio, the server happily ticks along with CPU usage around 1-5% range. However, as soon as someone connects to the SQL Server instance using Management Studio the CPU usage begin to go up and down constantly. The CPU usage ranges from 5-50% and it goes up and down (fairly regularly) every few seconds. It does this even when nothing is actually being done in Management Studio. The moment Management Studio is closed, the CPU usage goes back to normal. The processes on the server that appear to be causing the CPU spikes are services.exe and wmiprvse.exe. On a possibly connected note (though possibly not), the Security log in the server's Event Viewer shows that there are logins occuring every minute or so (most of the logins are from my account). Any ideas?

Hi All, I have a brand new install of sql server 2005 on brand new WINDOWS SERVER2003 with latest versions. Every thing works fine excepting I get a 404 when I connect to report server from management studio.. I am even able to publish reports and all the url://localhost/reportserver url://localhost/reports url://localhost/reportserver/reportbuilder/reportbuilder.application all work fine on local machine and with in the network behind the fire wall. But when I try to connect to report server using management studio on the local server or remote server, I get the following error. There was an error message "Service Unaivailable" Then i found out that the Reporting Services under the Application Pool (IIS 6.0) was not running. Then i recreate application domains, run the Reporting Services, restart the server. and when i try to connect using Management Studio, the error message i got was the above message. SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 Can't See SQL Server Compact
Hi, I am very new to SQL Compact. I am trying to create one database which can work on the desktop application and also on a pda application. I want to create the database but I am unable to start without Management Studio. Can you guide me to the right tools so that I can create database, view it and manage it use something like Management Studio Express. Also one more question is if my database needs to be at both places on the desktop and on pda how can i synchronise them. PDA will take using c# application data from RFID scans and then i need to sync that database on the desktop so that reports and other info can be generated from the desktop c# application. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio - Opening SQL-File From Explorer Does Not Connect Automaticly To Server/database
hello, I have a question about opening files in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. In the old Query Analyzer from SQL 2000 I can open SQL Files via drag & drop (from explorer to QA) or open it with a double click in the explorer. Then the Files opened, if I had actual a connection to a server / database (QA is stared with one file and has a connection to Server/Datebase), with this connection. Now in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio I'll be asked everytime for Server and have to get the database from the database list - it does not connect automaticly to server/database, that is actual connected (I have opened a file with the connection and a connected database in the object explorer). Someone do not have this problem - but we found no option to set it up. Any ideas? thanks & best regards, Christian Kiedels

Hi, I have created two instaces on the Database Engine and have managed to also create a linkedserver between the two instances. Now I'm trying to query two tables from both instances and I'm getting a collation conflict error. i would like to ask if there is a way to FILTER THE IPADDRESSES of users who wants to login the SQL Server Management Studio. right now, we are using Enterprise Edition of SQL Server 2005. i just want to limit the users who can log in at Management Studio, the users know the password of SA, and i can't change the password coz we have deployed the programs with odbc connection using SA. so i thought of filtering the ipaddress of computers i want to grant access to SQL Server Management Studio, if its possible. need a help. thanks

Hi !when installing sqlserver 2000 on a Windows 2003 server it explicitlytells "server not compatible with Windows 2003" during install, but itcan carry on.After we applied serfice pack 3a then the db server seems to runnormally, but does it risk to behave randomly afterwards ???Is sqlserver 2000 standard edition compatible with Windows 2003 server?Or does it exist a specific sqlserver edition for Win2003 ?thanks !Patrice
