I need to install the 'MSSQL 2005 Express Client' on a computer that will be hosting a copy of an MSSQL 2005 Standard Edition database.
Question: Should I install both the DataBase Services feature and the Client Components feature?
DB is developed on local computer with MSSQL 2005 Express. My host is on MSSQL 2005 workgroup. Are they compatible, because I am getting errors? Is my approach wrong?
I have tried several approaches.
A) I created a backup of database on my local, then placed a copy on the server. Then I tried to restore through Server Management Studio. I get this error.
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
------------------------------
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The backed-up database has on-disk structure version 611. The server supports version 539 and cannot restore or upgrade this database.
RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3169)

B: I also have tried copying the database. I put it in the same path as the other databases that can be read with server management studio on the server. Then, tried to get to it through server managements studio and it did not appear. So I tried to attach it. Then I received this error:

C: I have also tried opening the Database, and back up file through Server Management Studio. without success.
D: I also tried Windows and Software update at microsoft update, but no updates were recommended for Version on Server.
I'm surprised this is so hard. My original data base was created in same family of software. 2005 MS SQL Express. I could use some direct help from someone experienced with this. Am I doing it wrong or are the DB versions incompatible.
Cool place! Has anyone deployed SQL Express silently using one click and an attached a smart client DB from within the app ... would love to see some of the best practices or horror stories! Just kidding... :) I'm about to deploy a smart client using SQL Express and could use some tips from someone who has been there.

I need to be converted to a script that can be executed on both MSSQL 2000 and MSSQL 2005.
I was wondering if somebody there could help me with this problem?!

I have installed successfully Microsoft SQL server 2005 in MSCS.
However the set up did not install Workstation components (client tools - SSMS etc).
I have successfully installed workstation components in one node of cluster.
However setup is giving following error while installing workstation components on other node. (From this node MS SQL server 2005 was installed).

I have a 2005 Express DB I wish to attach to using the 2005 Mgt Studio Client (Not the express version, but the full blown 2005 Mgt Studio Client from the SQL 2005 Standard Edition Install disk). Can this be done, or can I only use the 2005 Mgt Studio Express Edition Client?
I have a question about using MSSQL server 2005 standard edition in Clustering mode. I would like to build a msql cluster with only 2 servers (2 nodes).
I read here -> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=818234dc-a17b-4f09-b282-c6830fead499&DisplayLang=en page 5 that you can use MSSQL server 2005 standard edition in Clustering mode with 2 nodes.
But my question is : Can I use windows 2003 standard edition (Clustering mode managed ????) or I only can use windows 2003 enterprise edition ?
I am currently work on mssql 6.5. On my workstation, I have mssql 6.5 cient software.
However, I would like to install mssql 7.0 server on my nt workstation and work with it to become familiar with 7.0. Can I install mssql 7.0 server on my nt workstation? Can mssql 6.5 client coexist with mssql 7.0 on the same machine if they are in different directories?
Hello, im shure this must have been up before and i apologize for that. But i wonder if there is a way to convert the SQL server express databases to MSSQL 2005 databses?
I'd like to get the experts' advice on whether SQL server 2005 Express edition (SSE) is suitable for medium scale web applications.
I have looked through the reviews of SSE. From what I understand, its limitations over the MSSQL 2005 Standard are:
1. SSE limits database size to 4GB and memory to 1GB. 2. Support for only 1 CPU. 3. No analysis or reporting services. 4. No full text indexing 5. No SQL Agent.
I have a web application that is currently running on a shared web host with a shared MSSQL 2000 database. I'm thinking of shifting to a Virtual Private Server, where I can install SSE for free.
Currently my app has about 14,000 page views a month, and each of them pulls out data from the database. I don't use any analysis or reporting services, or full text indexing or SQL Agent (for now).
My questions: 1. Is 1GB memory sufficient for this type of application? 2. Is there any reason I should not be using SSE for my type of application?
I want to know what are the configuration I need for the client side to connect to SQL Server Express 2005. Because i'm studying Network Application using SQL Server Express 2005.

I am new to mssql I am not sure when I should use windows authentication and when to use sql server authentication I set it to sql server installation when sql server was installed I am using it right now on xp-pro platform on my home computer but I also have a website where I would like also to use it right now I do not have problem accessing the server with windows authentication but I keep getting errors when I switch to sql server authentication Your help is appreciated Dory
Hi, just wondering if anyone noticed the MSSQL Express 2005 is so inconsistent with its performance. I was testing out a query with 2 joins, with the main table having about 13,600,000 records. With the same criteria value, sometimes it finished executing in 3 secs. sometimes almost a 1 min.
Could it be just the volume of the data? This is really driving me crazy!

Does anyone know of the procedure, steps that need to be followed to allow installing SQL 2005 Express from a network? Since SQL 2005 express requires .NET 2 and the MSI engine 3.1 and MDAC 2.8 it is a real problem pushing it from a network such as active directory using an AIP (Administrator Installation Point).
When I open the installation, everything is fine. The report says that I do not meet the reccomended hardware requirements, but I checked and I am above the minimum requirements. This is the report:

Then the installation seems to work fine until it tries to install the native client. then it shows a message box saying: "An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli.msi'." While installing sql server express 2005 get an error message install latest version using sqlnci.msi . Please let me know from where i can find or download sqlnci.msi

I cannot get SQL Express 2005 to install. I have tried numerous things, including uninstalling practically everything on my machine, reinstalling all .NET versions, using cleanup tools, etc. I have the log files. If anyone can help, what info should I post?
I have never used SQL Server, except that I did use MS Access, so after I downloading and installing the SQL Server Express 2005 ... I really do not know how to make it works!
1. Let say I would like to create a table at my local computer (1st) as a Server, how I do it (configuration)?
2. Then I have a second PC, as a client how I link to that table?
Might be they are 2 silly questions, but I would like to try out the new SQL Server Express and compare what are the better features with MS Access!
Please help..... During an installation of SQL 2005 express, I receive the error message:
- Minimum MDAC Version Requirement (Error)
Messages
Minimum MDAC Version Requirement
The system does not have the required version of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) for this SQL Server release. For details, see Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005 in Microsoft SQL Server Books Online.
But when I look in the "Add or remove programs" an instance of "hotfix MDAC" exists.
I must install SQL 2005 to run an application of CAD/CAM. It's being installed on a system running win2k
The installation fails and crashes with "Error 110", while attempting to install the SQL Native Client... then crashes (DrWatson). This happens on every OS and test machines that we have within our company... flavors of W2K and WXP, all with .Net Framework 2.0.
If the SQL Native Client exists, the installation continues without error. If SQLEXPR32.EXE is run directly from the command line, the installation will succeed.
If SQLEXPR32.EXE is called from a Windows Installer Custom Action type 50, it will always fail. This is the method we used to successfully install MSDE previously.
