- SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR32.EXE)
Installed :
- SQL Server with Advanced Services (SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE) incl. Reporting Services

We have a VS Solution with a Reporting Project

When opening Visual Studio, the following message appears :

"Make sure the application for the project type (.rptproj) is installed."

I have no idea why this message appears.

Is this a known problem/bug ? Anybody any idea how I can solve this ?

Many thanks in advance.

Problem In Opening The Project..Make Sure The Application For The Project Type (.dtproj) Is Installed.

Jun 24, 2007

Hi,

I have been working on some SSIS packages for a while now and today while i was working i was trying to create a new connection and in the process there was an error and it said the BIDS has to be closed and i closed it but later when i open BIDS and try to open my project(.sln) from the file menu to work on the half done package it pops up an error which shows the path to my project location on the first line and next statement on the pop up error box says:

"Make Sure the application for the project type (.dtproj) is installed."

I tried to check some forums in which some suggested to try installing SP1 which i tried but ..i dont know why but the SP1 fails to install (i dont know if its causing problem becoz i already installed SP2 as i had some other problem before for which the cure was to install SP2).

Did anyone here face such a problem before ?

I'd really appreciate if the experts here can tell a cure for this problem.

thanks,

Ravi

Developing DW Project On SQL 2008 - Does It Make Sense?

Feb 5, 2008

Dear all,

We started to develop a datawarehouse solution for client back in December 2008 based on SQL 2008.
We are convinced that we can use some of the new feature included in the new version which is the reason we we chossed to go down this path.

Due to the delay of the next version we have some question that I would like to hear you opinion on.

The estimatet "go live" date is during spring (march/april)

Is it wrong to contiue the development on the 2008 version?

We would need to run Release candidate at the customer site until the product is released. Is there any major changes coming up that are already known?

So far in the development we have had no big problems with releasecandidate.

Thank you for you feedback.

Message Type And Message Body..............

Nov 17, 2006

Hello,

I am having trouble specifying a message body that is valid. I mean for the client to send. If I leave it as null then everything is ok but if I create a memorystream and add a line of text it reports back it did not pass validation. I do not understand this and am not sure what to do. I need to send a message based on a code and text but do not know the format of the body that is allowed. The code I am refering to comes out of HelloWord_CLR because that is what I am formating my sample after. I call it the same way it calls the return message done in ServiceProc. I need to know the message format including body since this does not seem to work. A sample of the call is bellow.

// Create an empty request message

string Msg = "Hello";

MemoryStream body = new MemoryStream(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(Msg));

Message request = new Message("Request", body);

Thanks,

Scott Allison...

Problem Login Failed With Installed Application

Feb 15, 2008

I have an application that uses an MDF file as a database. Debug mode of application on developing machine works fine.
I synchronize my project to my home computer so that I can work home too. (I use AllwaySync for synchronisation, it copies newer file from the old location overwriting the old ones).

I also have a setup project in my solution for that app.

When I create and install the application on my local computer everything works fine. But when I install it one a different computer and then run it, it cannot connect to database. The error occures while conencting to database saying:

Code Snippet
Unable to open the physical file "C:Program Files........VBDB.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5error not found)".
Unable to open the physical file "C:Program Files........VBDB_log.ldf". Operating system error 5: "5error not found)".
Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
Login failed for user 'EKAROMAEka''.
File activation failure. The physical file name "C:Program Files........VBDB_log.ldf" may be incorrect.

the second time I try run my application I get the following error (and all following tried where resulted in this error):

Code Snippet
Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
Login failed for user 'EKAROMAEka'.

These exceptions are caught by "try catch" when feeding data into DataGridView om my main form.

I have the sam username and password on my Home and Work computers.

I'm not very good at MSSQL security. I don't know how to solve this problem. I can't even understand wheather this is a security that's built in an MDF file or some kind of a Database server issue.

the connection string that I use for connecting to SQL Server is this:

Code Snippet
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|VBDB.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=False

Thanks in advance.

SQL Server Vs Windows Application Project Maintenance?

Oct 6, 2006

I'm a database newbie, trying to decide whether to create an SQL Server or Windows Application project that uses SQL Server 2005 Express. As I understand it, the advantage of an SQL Server project is that the app deploys somehow as part of the database. If that's the case, how would I handle the scenario where the database has been updating at customer site and I need to install just a new release of the software? Would I be better of creating a Windows Application project and connecting to the database explicitly? Thank you.

How To Make Application.LoadPackage() And Package.Execute() To Run Asynchroniously?

Aug 10, 2006

Hi,

I am trying to execute a SSIS package programmatically. When a user drops a file in a shared folder, we execute the package based on that file. I am using SqlServer.DTs.Runtime.Application.LoadPackage() and SqlServer.DTs.Runtime.Package.Execute() functions each time to do this.

The problem is, when, say two people drop a file, the second one will not execute untill the first one is completed. I also tried only calling LoadPackage() a single time, and then storing the instance and calling Execute() in a different thread on each file drop; although the blocking still occurs. I assume the Package object is the one doing the blocking then behind the scenes.

Is there any built in functionality to make these functions (Application.LoadPackage() and Package.Execute()) run async? If not, has anyone had much success sticking these calls into a thread? I tried sticking these calls into a thread using System.Threading.ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(), and this appears to work, however it randomly crashes the program when I drop multiple files one after the other. The exception also isn't too helpfull (pasted below):

"The package failed to load due to error 0xC0011008 "Error loading from XML. No further detailed error information can be specified for this problem because no Events object was passed where detailed error information can be stored.". This occurs when CPackage::LoadFromXML fails."

So, is what I am trying to do possible? I know it must be, because when I was using .NET 1.X, I was just calling dtexec via the command line, and dtexec was able to execute many packages simultaneously....

Thanks for any help,

Drew

ODBC Connection For Client Application To SQL Server 2005 Express Installed On Network Computer

May 5, 2006

Hi All,

I've developed an application that connects to a SQL Server 2005 Express database. I created a DSN to connect to the database through ODBC. Currently, I am testing locally and everything works fine.

I would now like to install my application on another workstation and connect remotely to the database located on my development machine.

The client workstation does not have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on it because I would just like my application to connect remotely by creating the DSN and using ODBC. What I'm missing here are the database drivers. The "SQL Natice Client" is not available on this client workstation. How can I deploy the necessary drivers with my installation file so that I may create the required DSN name using the SQL Native Client driver?

Thanks!

Error Provider Cannot Be Found. It May Not Be Properly Installed. After Deploying Application On Windows 2003 Server

May 23, 2007

hello folks

i have recently started to work with the analysis services and i am having some problems.

i have made a web application that for now just tries to connect to an analysis server.

The server is installed on an xp sp 2 system.

for testing, i used my local computer, which is running also win xp sp2. After deploying, the application can connect to the AS server on the other machine. the problem occurs when i try to deploy the applicatuion on the production server, which is running win 2k3 server on 32 bit. When deploying, i use the same connection string, so it should try to connect to the AS server installed on a win xp sp2 system.

The first thing that came to my mind was to check the MDAC versions, be cause of the message: "Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."

on my computer, where the application worked ok, the version is MDAC 2.8 SP 1 Windows XP SP 2

on the win2k3 server, the MDAC version is : MDAC 2.8 SP2.... i thought it was the version of the service pack, so o searched for the update of MDAC 2.8 SP1, trying to install mdac 2.8 sp2 to see if i was to see the same error, but i found that mdac 2.8 sp2 is only for win2k3 server, and for win xp is mdac 2.8 sp1, according to this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/884103

Now i got confused and have no clues how to make this work...

Can anybody give any hint?

How Can I Remove The Workitem Type From The Existing Project?

Jun 11, 2007

When creating a new project using 'Agile' process template, there are 5 workitem types in the list of workitem type by default. After the project being created, how can I delete some workitem type that we don' t need?

For example, my team will never use 'Senario' workitem type for the project and I would like to remove this workitem type from the list. So no team member will see 'Senario' workitem type in the list when creating workitem, and therefore no one will create a workitem using 'Senario' workitem type by accident.

I understand that workitem type can't be deleted if it is used to created any workitem. So what I mean is the workitem type that has never used to create any workitem.

Thanks.

Just Want To Make Sure (declare Data Type)

Oct 22, 2007

I've reviewed the books on line looking to see if SQL Server 2005 would now include a feature that Oracle has for years. When you declare a variable in a procedure, function, etc you can declare them as a particular table and column type. Example:

DECLARE
@GHDEP2_SSNDEPENDENTID GHDEP2.SSNDEPENDENTID%TYPE;
@GHDEP2_SSNDEPENDENTID1 GHDEP2.SSNDEPENDENTID%TYPE;

ghdep2 is the table and ssndependentid is the column. This is great because I'll never run in to a truncation issue as the variable will always be whatever the table is. This may slow things down a bit doing that sort of check but I don't care.

I just want to confirm that I can't do this in SQL 2005. All signs point to no.

Anyone know what this message means?

I have searched SQL Server Books On-Line and been unable to find a list of Sql err numbers. Either I have missed the obvious or Books On-Line has missed the obvious.

How Do I Make The Field A Number Data Type?

Hi there!
I'm using a Switch statement in my SQL as follows:

Code:

Switch(timestamp Is Null,Null,
timestamp <= 005959, 0,
timestamp<=235959,23) AS period

Now here's my problem. The Data Type stored in the 'period' field of this new table I've created, dubbed averageprice, is a Text field and I want it to be a Number field. I've tried my best to figure this out and I'm still looking so any helpful hints or solution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

What Is The Purpose Of The Rptproj.user File?

Dec 20, 2007

I'm concluding that...

.rdl files are critical and should be recorded in source control
.rdl.data is useful only in preview (saving trips) and therefore should not be recorded in source control
.rptproj file has useful datasource, path and deployment info and should be recorded in source control
.sln contains useful solution container info and should be recorded in source control
.suo contains user specific setting/preference info and should not be recorded in source control
.rds contains important data source info and should be recorded in source control

...but cannot find info on the purpose of rptproj.user file and therefore dont know if recording such files in source control is useful.

DialogError Message Type

Jan 10, 2007

Hi There

In my testing i have seen the following i just would like confirmation that i am correct.

When something happens to cause a Dialog Error say for example message validation fails.

I have noticed that the actual DialogError message always goes to the initiator queue, is this correct ?

If so then logic to handle the ErrorDialog message type only has to be in the initiator activated SP that logic is not required in the target queue activated SP since the ErrorDialog message always goes to the initiator queue, is that correct ?

Thanx

Team Project In TFS - SSIS Project Sets Itself As The Startup Project

May 29, 2008

For some reason in a Team Foundation Team Project that has multiple project types (SSRS, SSIS, WebSite, C# Business DLL...), the SSIS project makes itself the startup project to the team project. If I explicitly set another project as the startup project to the team project and then select an SSIS package in the SSIS project in the team project, the SSIS project becomes the startup project automatically.

I am using Visual Studio 2005 SP1.

How Do I Prevent SQL 2000 From Posting This Message To The Event Viewer - Application Log

Sep 12, 2005

How do I prevent SQL Server 2000 from posting successful backupcompletion messages to the Windows 2000 Application Event Log?I have scheduled jobs which backup my transaction logs on 50+ databasesand it always writes to the Windows 2000 application event log uponcompletion.Due to the frequency of the jobs it only takes a day for theApplication Log to fill up, which is causing other jobs to get hung upwhen trying to write to it. On my Windows 2000 server, I have theapplication log event viewer setting correctly set as:"When maximum log size is reached - Overwrite events as needed" but forsome reason this setting no longer applies like it did for the pastthree years. SQLServerAgent and MSSQLSERVER both run under a localAdmin account, without a domain. When I researched how prevent SQL Server from logging this type ofmessage, I found that I can use sp_update_alert to disable thismessage, but I cannot findthe message_id to correctly disable this message. In sysmessages, themessage I am trying to suppress iserror:18265severity:10dlevel:128description:Log backed up: Database:%1, creation date(time): %2(%3), first LSN: %4, last LSN: %5, number ofdump devices: %7!d!, device information: (%8).mslangid:1033I tried calling sp_update_alert as follows:exec sp_update_alert @name = 'Log backed up: Database: %1, creationdate(time): %2(%3), first LSN: %4, last LSN: %5, number of dumpdevices: %7!d!, device information: (%8).', @enabled = 0but got the error message:Server: Msg 14262, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_update_alert, Line105The specified @name ('Log backed up: Database: %1, creation date(time):%2(%3), first LSN: %4, last LSN: %5, number of dump devices: %7!d!,device inf') does not exist.Looks like it can only handle 128 characters. How can I disable this message from being logged in the ApplicationLog? Analysis :: Invalid Column Name Message Type Error

May 21, 2015

I'm having trouble with cube processing. While processing a code I'm getting a "Invalid column name MessageType" error.

I unfolded the cube, then I opened "measure groups", my failing dimension (ServiceRequestDim) and the partition.

In the partition I opened the "Source" attribute so it now includes my column which was missing. But it didn't solve the issue.

If I get the query used during the process I'm getting this :

SELECT
DISTINCT
[ServiceRequestDim].[MessageType] AS [ServiceRequestDimMessageType0_0]
FROM
(
Select IsNull(IsDeleted, 0) as IsDeleted, [ServiceRequestDimKey], IsNull([Status_ServiceRequestStatusId], 0) as [Status_ServiceRequestStatusId],[Status],IsNull([TemplateId_ServiceRequestTemplateId], 0) as

[Code] ....

In the nested query which defines ServiceRequestDim the messagetype attribute is still missing. In my source datamart the ServiceRequestDim has the "MessageType" column.

So the question is where do I change the nested request that the dim process use to reflect the actual columns in my datamart .

Variable 2 EvaluateAsExpression is set to True and the Expression for now is simply "Processing of File " + [User::CurrentFilePath] + "has Begun"

However when i enter this i get

The expression for variable "Test2" failed evaluation. There was an error in the expression.

In the Value and Value type boxes of the variable property.

Any advice greatly received
