Microsoft SQL Server Express And Microsoft Visual Studio...
I have a query that executes just fine except that it won't recognize varchar(255) ( or any other value within the () ) and if I leave it off like this: varchar, then it executes but it leaves that value as 1 and that is just not very useful for my purposes. This also happens with anything else that requires () to add length such as char(), or nvarchar(), etc... Any ideas?

Hello all, Over the weekend, I loaded the SQL Server SP2 on to my production database after having it on my dev server for two weeks with out any problems. After I did this, I went to check all my SSIS packages and found them not able to load. I get this message €œMicrosoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document: The package failed to load due to error 0xC0010014 €œOne or more error occurred. There should be more specific errors preceding this one that explains the details of the errors. This message is used as a return value from functions that encounter errors€?. This occurs when CPackage::LoadFromXML fails. Now when I look at the errors I see: Error 1 Error loading Master_Full_Weekly.dtsx: Error loading value "<DTS:LogProvider xmlns : DTS="www.microsoft.com/SqlServer/Dts" > <DTS : Property DTS:Name="ConfigString">SQL_TPMTSH_Datamart</DTS: Property><DTS : Property DTS:Name="DelayValidation">0</DTS: Property><DTS: Property DTS:Name="ObjectName">DTS Log Provider for SQL Serve" from node "DTS: LogProvider". I get this message in a balloon that pops up frequently when I am trying to work in the SSIS designer. For example, I get it when working in a DataFlow task, trying to open editors for the OleDb Source and Destination. Is anyone else getting this? What could be the cause, it seems to get sluggish. How do you define a JDBC datasource in Microsoft Visual Studio? I am using Microsoft Visual Studio to develop reports for SSRS and would like to connect to DB2 via JDBC. Attempting to use the SQL JDBC install as a example, I don't see how to define the SQL JDBC driver to Visual Studio. I was having some trouble with the DTS Wizard and so I thought I'd just reinstall the whole MSSM. I used remove programs, rebooted my Vista computer and am trying to reinstall the Server Express Toolkit. It tells me that MSSM already exists on my computer (which it doesn't). The actual screen reads: Existing components The following components that you chose to install are already installed on the machine. Running Packages Hangs Microsoft Visual Studio
Hi I have around 160 packages in SSIS. When i run these packages, after some times the errror comes that the system is low on virtual memory and then visual studio freezes. I have a machine with 1G memory. All these packages are not running parallely but they have some dependencies defined on them. Microsoft Visual Studio Error, Keeps Closing My Package
I'm in a SSIS Package Design tab working on a data flow. It was working fine up to now, but all of a sudden I keep getting this error that says, "Microsoft Visual Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close." And it has that "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send" button at the bottom. This started happening when I tried to add a Data Viewer on a Data Flow Path. And now every time I do this to try to debug my data flow, it gives me this message and closes my project. However, the package executes without any package errors, but I as I described above, I can't add a Data Viewer because it keeps giving me this message and closing my package.

Hi Apologies for this question I have just found out i/we need to upgrade to the full version of this management tool to make use of SSRS for a new CRM we are putting in place, The CRM company tells me we can just install the tool from our SQL 2005 disk. Im wondering what the best way to go about this is? i would guess we just un-install the express version install the full version of the management tool and reconnect to the database. unless im missing anything? thanks

If I try to download using a download manager it stops after 98% (the segment that stops is the first segment). If I try to download without a download manager it stops after 1% (456Kb). Installing Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express Broke My Asp.net Databases
Morning, I installed the managerment stuid on my machine and now none of my database connections seem to work any more. I keep getting the attached error. Before I installed the studio the system worked fine, I could connect to the database and everything was fine. Does the studio change any permission stuff? I cannot seem to get it to work again at all now, I added in aspnet as a login inside the studio and it still won't let me connect to the database. I cannot find *any* logs anywhere that might be helpful in what it is doing or see any way to debug the connection to find out what the problem is. When I look at the permissions inside of the studio it shows me that the connections should all be fine. I checked and remote and local connections are setup, although it is only doing local connections anyway since this is a asp.net web server page. Any idea what the problem is here? This is very frustrating and annoying :( Since I didn't change anything and now nothing I will do gets it to work. I even tried to uninstall the management tool and it still doesn't work. Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'GREENANDFLUFFYASPNET'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. When I€™m going to choose the data source, the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition provider doesn€™t appear in the list. I installed the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=%2085E0C3CE-3FA1-453A-8CE9-AF6CA20946C3&displaylang=en. In the additional information says by installing SQLServerCE31-EN.msi installs the provider (System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll) in the GAC (global assembly cache) and registers the OLEDB provider (sqlceoledb30.dll). We have created a data source view consisting of >500 tables. When we generate a report model using Add New Report Model Wizard, we are getting the ff. error: "Microsoft Visual Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close...." Error signature -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event Type: clr20r3 P1: devenv.exe P2: 8.0.50727.42 P3: 4333E699 P4: system.windows.forms P5: 2.0.0.0 P6: 4333aefa P7:1508 P8:12f P9ystem.componentmodel.win32 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So the work-around is we added our Report Model manually by right-clicking Report Models>Add New Model. Then at the Report Model pane, right clicked the Model and then Autogenerate. The Report Model was successfully generated. However, if we close our VS2005 then re-load our solution, the Report Model generated takes too much time to load. We're not even sure if it even loads since we're not waiting for it anymore and instead, delete the existing Report Model created from Autogenerate and repeat the same process all over again. Drawback is we're losing our added relationships and newly defined expressions each time we Autogenerate.... So, could you please help us in solving the error mentioned above or atleast a solution in being able to load Report Model created through Autogenerate? By the way, we have already extended our MaxRequestLength as well as checked the Use current statistics checkbox in generating Report Model through Wizard yet neither works. Thanks(")

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Hi Folks I've downloaded & installed Visual Web developer Express and SQL Server Express and now I'm trying to install the Reporting Add-In available here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/downloads/default.aspx It downloads just fine and, just as the installation progress bar is almost done and the status text says 'Registering Product', I get the following error message: "There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personell or package vendor" Running VWD shows the ReportViewer control now appears in the 'data' group. I can add it to a form, but I cannot create a new report, as clicking on 'Design a new report' under the ReportView Tasks popup menu does nothing. Any ideas, please? Thanks Andrew

I watched and followed the Intro to VB 2008 Express, but in the final part of the video, when you add a database, i did everything as the video says, still i get: An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) Ive tried the fix stated in another forum, the one about changing the "Target CPU" but the option doesn appear, what does appear its the "Platfrom" dropdown list, but its fixed to "Any CPU" and dont have any more options. Ive also downloaded Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 ENU and "re-installed" and selected repair, followed the steps, rebooted and still nothing. The problem persists, any ideas, please?

Server Express, Management Studio Express, Visual Studio Standard, And An ASP.NET Page....
I believe I'm missing something as far as my configuration goes...I'm new to working with SQL server and the databinding I'm trying to do. I have an ASP.NET page that has a radio button list box which I have databound to a database served up by SQL Express I'm having a lot of problems with connections... I was going to enumerate the behavior under each configuration (local only, remote tcp/ip only, remote pipes only, remote both), but I've realized that it is just flaky. Sometimes I can connect to the db with SQL Studio express, sometimes not. Sometimes I can add new tables and edit tables, sometimes not. Sometimes I can create a new connection when trying to databind from within Visual Studio, and sometimes not (sometimes I can't even connect, other times, I can connect initially but when I build a query through the designer it then has problems). Lastly, sometimes the ASP.NET page works correctly and sometimes not. This all seems to be mostly independent of how I configure SQL Server as far as what kinds of connections are allowed. I thought there was a pattern, but as I tested it more rigorously I found there wasn't. What I would like to do is be connected to the same DB with Visual Studio and SQL Studio, edit the DB as I wish, databind to it, and test my ASP.NET page, all without needing to jump through a bunch of hoops (although right now I wouldn't even know what those hoops are...it's just a shot in the dark as to what will work). It's all quite maddening and any help would be appreciated.

I was looking for Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio but downladed Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio EXPRESS. the express version doesn't have the SQL server agent. I read that the express doesnt support SQL server agent. Is there any add-on or service pack available for this. I am trying to find "SQL server Management studio". Any idea where I can download it?

Hi all, I am Vaibhav.I am using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.1399.00 on my machine , which have Windows 2000 Professional OS installed. Now I am upgrading My ystem to Windows Vista OS. And I am not getting whether Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.1399.00 will support Windows Vista? or I have to go for Higher version available for Microsoft SQL Server Management studio ? Visual Studio Database File And SQL Server Management Studio Express Question
I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason

Problem Copying Database With Microsoft SQl Server Management Studio
I am trying to copy a database from the server on my web host(crystaltech) to my new local install of MS SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (trial version). I go to Tasks>Copy Database which opens the wizard. When I get to the select database screen I get this error: Server user 'username' is not a valid user in database '123foo' (123foo is the first database of all those on the server) I need have it look only at my database which I have permissions for to copy it. How do I do this? I tried copying the tables the other way(import data) but it dropped all my identities and primary keys which is a pain to recreate. Is there a way to copy tables from one server to another without losing primary keys and identity fields? Thanks for any help!

How Can I Remove Expiration Date From Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (Standard Ed)
Recently we upgrade the SQL Server 2005 from Evaluation Ed to Standard Ed. It was like a full installation since we already had installe the SP1, we had to uninstall it completely. If we enter the following query: SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('productversion') as ProductVersion, SERVERPROPERTY ('productlevel') as ProductLevel, SERVERPROPERTY ('edition') as ProductEdition it shows that we have the Std Ed (not the Evaliation Ed.): 9.00.2047.00 SP1 Standard Edition However, since a few days ago the Management Studio showed the following message: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (expires in 4 days). SQL Server Management Studio Express, Database Explorer In Visual Web Developer Express...which To Use???
When I downloaded/started using Visual Web Developer I was under the impression that I needed to install SQL Server Management Studio Express in order to create/manage databases, and to provide the engine to access the data. Since then I have found tutorials and have successfully created/used databases solely from within Visual Web Developer. I'm assuming that Visual Web Developer includes a database engine, much like the webserver that is included. (This is an awesome thing). When I tried to upload my web application with database to my production server, the database would not work, it started working after I installed SQL Server Management Studio Express on the server. Is it my understanding that you need SQL Server Management Studio Express if you do not have Visual Web Developer Express installed in order to provide the data access engine? Also, I am unable to "attach" my Visual Web Developer Express created database to SQL Server Management Studio Express. Are there any posts that provide more information about this topic? The only reason I'm asking is that I have extra whitespace on the end of my text fields, and I thought ANSI_PADDING was turned on. I do not see the option in Visual Web Developer Express, but have found it in SQL Server Management Studio Express.

I 'm getting this error on expanding the + nodes in SQL Server Management Studio Express Object Explorer:i.e. Database -> System Databases -> Any DB selected and expanding the Tables node When I click on the nodes for Tables for any of my databases, I see it saying expanding..., but then a message box errors pops up. It was working fine until after my lunch hour when I attempted to create some new tables.Failed to retrieve data for this request.
