Missing Data Mining Provider In Management Studio Linked Server Definition
I'm trying to define a linked server using Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Data Mining Services. MSDMine data provider is missing. Do you know where I can get this? Thanks in advance.
I'm have a Xeon 64bit proc. using SP2. And had installed:
SQLServer2005_ADOMD_x64.msi, SLQServer2005_ASOLEDB9_x64.msi,SQLServer2005_OLAPDM_x64.msi, and SQLServer2005_XMO_x64.msi.

Missing SQL Server Management Studio
Hi, I am a novice at SQl Server, so apologise in advance if you think this is a really stupid question. I have a windows XP laptop with Visual Studio 2005. I installed SQl Server 2005 Developer Edition but do not see the SQl Server Management Studio anywhere. The only thing in Programs/ SQL Server 2005 is SQL Server Configuration Manager. I then uninstalled it & installed SQL Server Express but encountered the same issue. I would like to install the Developer Edition if possible. I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling a few times but it does not work. Could someone please help in resolving this. Appreciate it!

Show Server Trace Missing In SQL Management Studio?
In Query Analyzer I could go to the Query menu and select Show ServerTrace and it would give me trace information with duration, CPU, Readsand Writes cost. I have been using SQL Server 2005 for a couple monthsnow and I can't seem to find that option in SQL Management Studio. Am Imissing something?Jason

Management Studio Missing After Installing SQL Server 2005 Dev
I've just installed SQL Server 2005 Development Edition x64 on Windows XP x64bit. The actual server (as well as Integration, Reporting Services etc) installs fine, I can connect to it via Visual Studio 2005 fine. However, all of the software tools are missing including Management Studio, Business Intelligence Studio etc. They don't show up in the start menu at all and I can't find them in the Program Files directory. Anyone know how I can get them back? I've tried reinstalling SQL Server 2005, reformatting Windows XP x64, I'm at my wits end!! Many thanks!

SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Is Missing After Install
I have several servers that do not have SSMS installed. A couple of them are running as a clustered server. How do I install SSMS on these servers? they are running and have production databases on them. I have tried re-installing the management tools but that didn't work. SQL Server 2005 64bit Install - Missing Management Studio
Good Afternoon, I just installed SQL Server 2005 64bit on a fresh system with no other applications loaded on running on the new server. The only other component that was installed with the SS2K5 database services is SSIS. The base installation and the SP2 patch went on perfect. I went looking for the Management Studio thru the Start menu options and it is NOT under the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 group. The only options under the SS2K5 group are "Configuration Tools" and "Docs and Tutorials". Here are file names that I downloaded from the MS website and installed. SW CD SQL Svr Enterprise Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #1 x64 MLF.x11-57796 (which is a zipped) SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x64-ENU There was also another zipped file that I tried to install but it seems to be a duplicate of the zipped file above: SW CD SQL Svr Enterprise Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #2 x64 MLF.x11-57797 Any help would be greatly appriciated. SQL Server Express 2008 - Missing Client Tools / Management Studio / Profiler
I downloaded and performed a full install of SQL Server Express 2008 Nov CTP. It was installed on a fresh installation of Windows Vista Enterprise x64. During setup, I checked the 'Client Tools' box which has the description: "Includes management and development tools: SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Profiler, and Database Engine Tuning Advisor" The installation ran fine with no errors. Management Studio Is Missing Suddenly
Hi all, This issue is on PRODUCTION. The server is in use almost a year now, but suddenly this afternoon , i saw that Management Studio is missing in start --> Sql Server 2005 --> Management Studio is missing here. Provider Load Failure In Management Studio

Hi everyone In my SqlServer Management Studio Express, on start up it shows the server type option, but greyed.So that value is fixed to database engine. ( I'm trying to work on an SqlServer Compact Edition database through the SSMStudiothat's why I'm trying to get this to change.)Besides, after I connect i go to the Object Explorer, expand the server node, and go to Replication.When i expand replication, i get the "Local Subscription" option, but nothng for Publication.( I want to work on Merge Replication, that's why I desparately need Publication to work)Am i missing something here? I did not install SqlServer separately, I only have what comes bundled with the Visual Studio 2005 Setup.

Generate Scripts Missing Option In Management Studio
I was hoping this would be fixed in SP1, but it is still missing. Particularly in a development environment, I find it very useful to have scripts DROP first, then do a CREATE for tables. There is an option called Script Behavior that is supposed to allow this, according to the help text. There are supposed to be 3 options, DROP only, CREATE only and DROP + CREATE. This third option (the one I need) is missing. It does not show up on the drop down. Sorry, I don't want to be rude, but before anyone suggests it, yes, I know I can create a DROP script first and then go back in and create a CREATE script and then run both. And I don't want to change my methodology, and I don't want to do twice the work. All I would like to know is if anyone knows how to get this 3rd option to appear, or if its a known bug, is there a hotfix or a plan to fix it soon. Thanks, Wayne

Transaction Definition/Server Management
I need to keep a table indicating the number of "transactions" or Logical Units of Work (LUW) against each database each day. I know transactions are defined with a Begin and End statement but most of our software is from 3rd party vendors who don't use begin and end. How can I determine how many transactions (not necessarily I/O although that might be nice in the future) has occurred against each database. Exporting Data From SQL 2K Via SQL Server Management Studio
Sorry if this is a newbie question -- I'm a web developer and not a DBA :) I also hope this is the right forum for this. I have been assigned an export to Access DB job from a table in a SQL Server 2000 DB, but I only have 2005 available to me on my side and the 2000 server resides in a share outside (I think) of my domain. It's a client's server that is only accessible by a very locked down VPN. I can't seem to find the option to export data from the table I need using SSMS, although this is done easily via the EM in 2000. I just got shifted to 2005, and I'm finding the difference in interface a little confusing at times. I saw in another thread that SSIS has some limitations if the DB in question is outside of your domain. Is this what I'm up against or am I just missing something obvious? I can access the DB and run queries, etc., I just can't seem to get to this particular feature when I'm connected to their database. If it is the case that I can't use SSIS, what are my options? I don't have SA access or anything like that really, and the client can't run the job themselves until they find a replacement for the DBA that apparently handled this for them before it dropped into my lap. Cannot Edit Table Data With SQL Server Management Studio?
HI all, I'm just posting this to make sure I didn't mess anything. Is the only way to enter/edit table data (in grid view) is through the VS (Express) IDE? The reason why I ask is because I installed the Sql Server 2008 developer trial to get the Management Studio and pretty much the only things I can do are create/edit/delete databases, tables and the like. It would be nice for the Management Studio (and Express at that) to have those capabilites. It would be nice to not have to create connections in the VS IDE to diffferent databases to edit them. Opening up the Management Studio and selecting the database seems like the proper (if not accustomed) way to do it. Thanks, JB

Hi, I have Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express and do not see how I can enable the Import Data... feature which I have seen on the regular Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio version. Basically, if I right-click on a database, I'd like to use the Import Data... function which should be found in this menu under the Tasks... item. The Import Data... menu choice is visible just below the Generate Scripts... choice in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio but not in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. Can anybody tell me if this feature is available in the express version. If not what are my options in order of least cost. SQL Server Management Studio - Entering Field Data
Hello experts I'm trying to enter some data into a table to run some tests. Whenever I open the table, I can enter data into all my fields *except* for the fields that I defined as Binary data types. I've tried to enter 0, 1, true, false... I always get the same error... "Invalid value for cell... The changed value in this cell was not recognized as valid. Error Message: You cannot use the Result pane to set this Field data to values other than NULL" Any ideas on this? I thought Binary was True or False? Is it the way I'm trying to enter data? I'm not familiar with SQL code and I just need to get a few rows filled up with data so I can test using gridview to pull the data onto a webpage. Thanks

How Do I Import Data In SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005
I am still a bit of a noob with SQL, but, when I use Enterprise Manager with my SQL 2000 server at the office, it is pretty simple to import data from pretty much any data source. I have not been able to locate the Transform facility in the 2005 express software that I downloaded onto my home pc (to help me learn SQL). Data Provider List Missing...very Odd SQL 2000
Hey All! I have an interseting situation with one of my dev machines. (W2k3EE, SQL2k SP4) All my linked servers stopped working posting this error: Server: Msg 7302, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Could not create an instance of OLE DB provider [enter provider name here, e.g. 'SQLOLEDB'. So...when attempting to drop and recreate the linked server, the Provider pull down in the GUI is completely empty. YIKES! I'm thinking of reinstalling MDAC, but I've never seen this in 10 years of DBA'ing. Have any of you? Any thoughts out there? Registry issues? Cheers, Odd

Built Database With SQL Server Management Studio Express, How Can I Quikly Add Test Data?
I've built my SQL Server Express database with SQL Serevr Management Studio Express, and now I want to enter some seed data to assist in building tha app around it. I cannot find an option to manage the data in SQL SMSX, like I used to with Enterprise Manager. I don't want to have to write an app just to get test data in. Seems like this should be a common need. Visual Studio Database File And SQL Server Management Studio Express Question
I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Can't Connect To Linked SQL Server: Cannot Initialize The Data Source Object Of OLE DB Provider &&"SQLNCLI&&"
I find this most perplexing. I have two servers, DEV and PROD. Now my DEV server works just great, I can connect to the linked server, query, etc... all is well. So I'm setting up my PROD server and when I go to add the linked server I get: Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI".... and Unable to complete login process due to delay in opening server connection. Now I am running SQL Server 2005 and connecting to an SQL 2000 server. The odd part is that this works just fine on DEV. When I go to create the linked server I set: Linked Server: "LinkedServerName" Server Type: "SQL Server" and that's it. I go to Security and enter my DOMAINUSER.ACCOUNT and then enter the login creds for the linked server. When I click "OK" I get the above mentioned error code. Any thoughts?

Visual Studio 2005 Standard And SQL Server Management Studio?
I am new to visual studio and I am still not sure of all its components and features. I installed visual studio 2005 standard edition but cannot find SQL Server Management Studio? I guess this must be because it is not included with Visual studio 2005 standard. Is it included with VS 2005 professional? I want to add pictures of products to my shopping site using an SQL database and I’ve been told that SQL Server Management studio is required as it is a graphical tool. How would I go about obtaining the SQL server management studio. There seems to be different versions of SQL server that it is confusing to know which one to purchase. Will the SQL server 2005 version that comes with Visual studio standard be sufficient for me now right? I want to create a shopping site with hundreds, perhaps even thousands of products. I want to use an SQL server 2005 database. The database will include ‘dynamically generated’ product images if that is the correct terminology. My goodness, it seems I still have so much to learn. Add Image Data From Management Studio
I've already solved this another way, but I'd like to know how to do this in case I have to again. We have a database that stores image files in a table (the actual image file, not just a path). I needed to add a new record, with file, to the database from inside the management studio (2005). Obviously I can't just type in a picture file. How would I do this?

Editing Data With Management Studio
I use the SQL Compact Edition 3.1 as database for a desktop application. Everything works fine, but is it possible to edit the data (e.g. tables and views) in the SQL Server Management Studio? I can make a connection to the SQL CE database, but I can only edit the objects of a table. The option 'Open Table' as in SQL Server (2005) is not avalible? Does anybody know if it posible to edit the data with the Managementstudio (express)?

SQL 2005 Management Studio Only Imports First Row Of Data
I'm pretty new to using SQL 2005 Management Studio. Generally speaking, it works pretty much the way I'm used to (using Enterprise Manager) as far as moving data around and designing databases is concerned. But I've been trying to import some data to my local SQL server from an online SQL database and I am getting the most bizarre results. Basically, it appears to work perfectly, but when the import is finished, there is only one new row in the destination table. I have tried this with two completely different online databases and I have tried importing using a query and just downloading the table as-is, but whatever happens, I just get one row! All of the databases I'm exporting from or importing into are SQL 2000 - I just happen to be using the SQL 2005 client software. Have you heard of anything like this? I'm appending the report to the end of this email. As you can see, it says "success, success" all the way down and it clearly states "71236 rows transferred", but when I get done, there's just one. Any thoughts? One explanation is that every new row is overwriting the last new row somehow, but I don't think so because the row that actually gets copied is always the first one in the record set, not the last. Unless they're being transferred in reverse order, I suppose. I'm pretty stumped and I haven't found any useful blogs or help on the web. Hope you can think of something because I don't have Enterprise Manager on my computer any more and it's going to be a pain to install it. Data Retrieval Is Much Slower In RS Than In Management Studio
A call to a stored procedure completes in 13 seconds when ran from within SQL Server Management Studio. A report whose data source uses the same stored procedure can take as long as 10 minutes to run. The same parameter values are used in both the direct call and the report. The execution log says almost all of that time is spent on data retrieval. How could that be? What might be the cause?

I am using SQL 2005, when I run select * into #import1 from OpenRowSet('microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0','Excel 8.0;hdr=yes;database=\ws8webjeff2.xls', 'select * from [jeff2$]') I get Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0" for linked server "(null)". when I try to compile a SP with that statement in it, I get the same error, like create stored procedure test as begin select * into #import1 from OpenRowSet('microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0','Excel 8.0;hdr=yes;database=\ws8webjeff2.xls', 'select * from [jeff2$]') end so it seems the error may not relate to the real file, since at the compile stage, it should not check the real file? On my live db, after I restart the SQL service, the statement will work, after a while, one or several days, I get the same error again. I can not restart my live db quite often for sure, so now I have another backup db server, I need run the statement on the backup server and then read the data from there. I have the same problem at two places, both use SQL 2005. So far there are three questions 1, why it works after restart, but only last for a while? something about memory? since the backup db seldom need restart and work fine after many days. 2, why it gives error in compile stage? 3, why two dbs in different Enviroment has the same problem The most answer I have gathered so far is permission issue, true I got similar error if the import file is located in a place which SQL has no right to access. But in this case, it should not be. Any other idea or suggestion? thanks

Data Mining - Scalar Mining Structure Column Data Type Error...
Hoping someone will have a solution for this error Errors in the metadata manager. The data type of the '~CaseDetail ~MG-Fact Voic~6' measure must be the same as its source data type. This is because the aggregate function is not set to count or distinct count. Is the problem due to the data type of the column used in the mining structure is Long, and the underlying field in the cube has a type of BigInt,or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Linked Server - OLE/DB Provider 'MSDAORA'
We have created linked server between SQL Server 2000 and Oracle 10g in offshore environment as well as onsite environment,both the environments are almost IDENTICAL.Basically, the whole execution happens on Oracle and the output is passed to SQL Server.When the below query is executed in offshore environment it is returning values perfectly. SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(ORACLE_LINK,'{Call TEST.IVR.lo_Dlr_GetInfo(55,{resultset 2,p_ReturnVal})}') Here: ORACLE_LINK - is the Linked Server Name, TEST - Oracle Schema Name IVR - Oracle Package Name But when the same query is executed on onsite environment it is raising the following error. Server: Msg 7321, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 An error occurred while preparing a query for execution against OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA'. OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDAORA' ICommandPrepare::Prepare returned 0x80040e14]. Doing Transactions With Linked Server(ole Db Provider)
Hi all, When i begin a distributed transaction..., do i need to always set xact_abort on? But when i tried to put custom error handling to roll back a transaction with a linked server , it seems its impossible (as set xact_abort on, already automatically rolls back the transaction) Does anyone have any ideas on this? Data Columns Empty In Management Studio But Not Query Analyzer
we have a database hosted online on sql server 05. at work, we have a sql 2000 query analyzer on a machine, and sql 2005 management studio on a machine. both machines can connect to the database, both can pull up the data from a certain table. but there are two columns that display info in query analyzer that show up as empty on management studio. not null, just empty. any ideas why?

View Data From A Compact Database With The Management Studio Express ?
Hi there, after some hours of installing and experiments i can now open and sql server compact database (sdf) iam also able to create a new database and add tables and columns. (everything with the ms sql server management studio express) i can also open the northwind database. but iam not able to view the data . if i rightclick on a normal database table i can choose ->open table and see its content. but on a compact table i have at rightclick only edit table properties delete refresh how can i see the data in the table or add new content ? thanks

Missing Linked Server
Hi, I have an issue with one of my production servers. I have a few production servers, and they all have the same objects. I do not want to create custom objects for each one, rather keep them all standard. However, due to environment issues, I have one which does not have any linked servers. I have a proc which queries either locally or across the linked server depending on the value of a switch. I want to install this proc on the server with no linked servers but it obviously fails. I can guarantee the proc will never be called with the switch 'on' on that particular server. We still want to install this proc and call it with a switch of 0. Please can somebody come up with something really clever. The proc goes something like this: CREATE PROC WhatEver @Switch int AS IF @Switch = 1 BEGIN SELECT * FROM LinkedServer.Db.dbo.MyTable END ELSE BEGIN SELECT * FROM dbo.MyTable END Thanks in advance
