Running SQL version 7 on "Terminal" Server I have a database marked in Load Receovery and we are unable to get to it. We tried MS SQL document on how to but we are still unable to recover it!

Hi,I'm no where close to a SQL Server expert but we're using it as a back endto another application.I lost a PC that had MS SQL Server 2000. I was able to recover the .MDF and..LDF files but nothing else. How can I restore these files to another SQLServer installation on another PC. When I tried to attach them they are notrecognized as valid files (I get the red X instead of the green CHECK).Is this a basic security function that I'm not going to get around or shouldit be possible? Do the .mdf and .ldf files contain specific info about whatPC they were created on?Are there third party apps that might be able to at least extract thetables?Thanks,WH

hai! i have a database which crashed recently(26th sep 2007).my last backup is on 14 sep 2007.i have restored database after two days.Now i have a database (old) with data upto 14sep 2007 and from 26sep to till date.(data from 14sep to 26sep missing).I restored database on 28th with a new database name which has data upto 26th sep 2007.how to attach these two databases to a single database to have data from beginning to tilldate. please help in this regard.

Hi, I made an UPDATE query without specifying any criteria so I had more than 1500 records have been changed and I cannot undo the UPDATE. Our server ran out of disk space during a stored procedure process. We were able to free up some space, stopped all SQL services, restarted all SQL services and now SQL Management Studio shows the database to be in recovery. Is there a way to monitor this to ensure progress is being made and to estimate when it might complete?

Recovery Of Database - 23 Days?!?
I cancelled an INSERT operation on a database. Now I get: "Recovery of database 'BounceRepository' (6) is 0% complete (approximately 2024654 more seconds)" That is another 23 days of straight recover time!!! The original INSERT only ran for about 30 hours. In Windows Performance Monitor, I can see that the system isn't disk or CPU limited. What is the server doing? How can I make it go faster?

Recovery On User Database.
Hi I'm a newbie with a problem. SQL Server 6.5 SP4. Have had problems today with SQL Server running out of LOCKS. We increased these & all seemed fine. LOCKS ranout again & we brought SQL Server back up our major database started a recovery. I know the spid of the recovery from the SQL Server errorlog but when I select the sysprocesses table I don't find an entry for this spid. The recovery has been running for about 2 hours. My question is should I see the spid of the recovery process in the sysprocesses table & is 2 hours long for a recovery of a 5 GB database? Thanks for any help in advance. Cheers, Phil

Hi everyone, I am trying to implement a plan for a SQL7 database that is used by the company I work for. Having read the SQL manuals I have come to the following conclusion: I want to do a complete backup of the database at midnight and do a transaction log backup every 30 minutes between 7am and 7pm. I am hoping this will allow me to 'undo' any user mistakes and roll back the database changes to the last transaction log backup. The questions I have are: 1) By backing up the transaction log every 30 minutes, will this then give me the ability to 'roll back' the database to the last time the transaction log was backed up (i.e. 30 minutes max) ? 2) How do I load the transaction log back in ? (i.e roll the database changes back). A simple Restore operation (with truncate ???) 3)Am I totally confused or on the right track ? Thanks, Tim

Database Restore - Norecovery/recovery
Hello all, I just restored a SQL 7 db using the Enterprise Manager GUI interface. I selected the "Leave database nonoperational, but able to restore additional transaction logs" option. I should not have selected this option as I do not have any transaction logs to apply. Anyway, my question is... Is there a way to mark the database as opertational without running the restore again? hello, (this was originally posted in Administration Forum) I am helping out with a disaster recovery of a database and i was given 4 files. 2 MDF and 2 LDF files. When I try to attach the files to SQL Server I recieve this err msg: Server: Msg 823, Level 24, State 6, Line 1 I/O error (torn page) detected during read at offset 0000000000000000 in file 'E:chivirtualGPS0Dat.mdf'. Connection Broken I then tried many other combinations hoping something would work --> tried individual files, just data files, tried to create a new DB and then switching/replacing out with the files i needed...etc, nothing seems to work for me. The people I am trying to help out do NOT have backups. Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks...

I have create a database master key (specifying a password so it WILL NOT get encrypted by the server master key) on my database and backed it up CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'test' go BACKUP MASTER KEY TO FILE = 'c:Genesis_DBMasterKey.key' ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'test' Then I have created a asymmetic key without specifying a password therefore the key will get encrypted bt the database master key. CREATE ASYMMETRIC KEY card WITH ALGORITHM = RSA_512 And then for test I run DECLARE @Encryptvalasym varbinary(MAX) SET @Encryptvalasym = EncryptByAsymKey(AsymKey_ID('card'), 'EncryptedData') SELECT @Encryptvalasym SELECT CONVERT(varchar(max),DecryptByAsymKey(AsymKey_ID('card'),@Encryptvalasym) ) And the result is OK. Problem: as a recovey plan if I restore the database on the same or other instance (althogh the asymmetic key is part of backup) the decrypt doesn€™t work. I have tried to create a bank database restore tha databse master key and recreate the asymmetric key, but I€™m afraid I€™m still not having any luck with it, as it does not decrypt. My main issue is that is any case if I have to recover the database , how do I have to make sure that encryption/Dycription will work? Thanks

Model Database Recovery Planning
I cannot think of any reason, in our environment, why I would recover the model database. Change framework has all databases coming from DEV & QA before landing on PROD. We have never used the model database as framework of new databases either. So, if I discontinued backup of the database, what is my recovery method if it become corrupt? Since mine is not used, can I simply copy it from another server?

While working with SQL server 2005, as there is new resouce database which is hidden read only. According to books online we should be backing up that database as NTFS file backup (i.e. .exe file). When restoring a database where the data file(s) are located under a mount point, seems to be a problem with reporting free space available. DB Size - Say 30GB (25 Data, 5 Log) E: Drive 20GB with 15GB Free Restoring database file to E:SQLMountPoint - This points to separate disk with more than enough free space SQL prevents the restore by stating there is not enough free space. A long work around is assign a drive letter to the large disk Restore database using temp drive letter - F:SQLDATAMyDB_Data.mdf Update sysfiles - changing drive & path - E:SQLMountPointSQLDATAMyDB_Data.mdf Stop & restart database... Is there a better way??? Wishlist - Restore only warns about free space - but allows continue... Regards

1st question I have to ask is: Is Emergency Mode the same as Bypass Recovery Mode? 2nd: I have a SQL2005 Database that was suspect this morning. I put the database in Emergency Mode: alter database {dbname} set emergency. I did a dbcc checkdb on the database and found some corrupt indexes. I attempted to do a dbreindex on the table and got the error: Could not run BEGIN TRANSACTION in database '{dbname}' because the database is in bypass recovery mode. How can I put the database in single_user mode and to a point where I can reindex the 1 table that is causing the problems. I would even be willing to drop the indexes and re-create. Can We Toggle The Database Status Between Recovery And Nonrecovery?
Hi, 1) We will setup logshipping for a large database. 2) 2 systems are located at different city 3) Instead of use 'backup from primary and restore with norecovery to secondary ', we planned to use SAN disk clone to get a second set of disks for related database files and log files. 4) We will mount the disk to the secondary server, however, how can we put the database on the new server as 'norecovery' mode so that we can setup logshipping to this server ?? Another easy example is: 1) detach database 2) Copy database files to another disk 3) bring the disk to another city and attached to the new server The database is recoveryed, how can we attach the database or mount the disk and make the database as norecovery so that we can keep apply new logs?? For 2 identical database image, how can we toggle one from normal to norecovery to setup logshipping? Is change 'status' from master database working? Thank you very much for any words. SQL 2000 Test Server Database Recovery Bombed
I am a SQL lightweight and I tried to update the data on the test SQL server with the data on the production server and now the test SQL server won't start. I was trying to move a sql database from our production server to our test server and things got mucked up. I think where I went wrong is that I tried to backup the database on the Production server and then restore it to the test server. I think I should have backup the production server and then detached the databases from the test server and then attached the backups. I got in a hurry and had an attitude that SQL is so good that if I mess up, I can recover. These are the databases I recovered to test server: Builder CSales CIB Master Model MSDBdata Now SQL server won€™t start and I get the error message that the database Model is in the middle of being restored. We are on SQL 2000. I tried to start from a command line with the €“f switch and it still can€™t come up. Should I reinstall SQL and then attach the databases? Do I need to bring over the Master, Model and MSDBdata data bases from the production servers.

I have two instances (Source and Destination) on the same server, i did a full backup of a database on the source server, i did a restore on the destination using the NORECOVERY mode, now the database on the destination as green arrow saying "restoring". From the source database i set up the mirroring, i'm using port 5022 on source and 5023 on destination, everything seems to connect fine but when i start mirroring i get the error message "Database mirroring cannot be enabled because the database is not full recovery error: 1465" but when i look at the property of the db on the source the recovery model shows full as so the destination?

Is Point In Time Recovery To A Point Before The Last Full Database Backup Possible?
Hello all, First off, I appreciate the time that those of you reading and responding to this request are offering. My quesiton is a theoretical and hopefully simple one, and yet I have been unable to find an answer to it on other searches or sources. Here's the situation. I am working with SQL Server 2005 on a Windows Server 2003 machine. I have a series of databases, all of which are in Full recovery mode, using a backup device for the full database backups and a separate device for the log backups. The full backups are run every four days during non-business hours. The log backups are run every half hour. Last week, one of my coworkers found that some rarely-used data was unavailable, and wanted to restore a database to a point in time where the data was available. He told me that point in time was some time back in November. To accomplish this, I restored the database (in a separate database, as to not overwrite my production database) using the Point in Time Recovery option. I selected November from the "To a point in time" window (I should note that this window is always grey, never white like most active windows, it seems), and the full database backup and the subsequent logs all became available in the "Select the backup sets to restore" window. I then tried a bevy of different options from the "Options" screen. However, every restore succeeds (ie: it doesn't error out), but seems to be bringing the database back to a current point in time. It's never actually going back to the point in time I specify. My questions are as follows: a) Is it possible to do a point in time recovery to a point in time BEFORE the last full database backup? b) If so, what options would you recommend I use? (ie: "Overwrite the existing database", restore with recovery, etc etc). I again appreciate any and all advice I receive, and I look forward to hearing from anyone and everyone on this topic. SQL DB Recovery
Please help! Windows Server 2003 SE SQL 2000 w/ 4 Veritas Netbackup 5.1 w/ MP5 (for backup/recovery) Sometimes, not always, when I attempt to recovery a database I will follow the process of restoring the DB and it will complete with a status of successful. However when I attempt to view the DB in Enterprise Manager it states (loading) next to the DB - and never finishes. As I said, this doesn't happen all the time, but of course when it happens I only know to start over, rebuild everything and go through the recovery process again. I am sure this is something simple. I apologize for my lack of knowledge in regards to SQL. Any insight greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kerry

DTS Recovery
I have removed a SQL Server 2000 installation, as need to re-install the OS also backed up the whole "Microsoft SQL Server 2000" folder that contains all the MDF and LDF files of the DBs. Now i also had some DTS packages there but now when i have re-installed the whole setup; i could not get the DTS packages. Is there anyway to recover the DTS as i have the whole folder that contains the SQL Server information. DBs are attached again but only the DTS are left. There must be some place where SQL Server stores this information. Can anyone please help me out as its so urgent for my work. Thanks!

Disaster Recovery
Hello, I have a problem. I am trying to set up a disaster recovery plan and have ran into some problems. Just so you are aware, we have tried setting up replication but it failed since the database does not have primary keys(don't ask--I have no control) and we have tried to set up log shipping but we do not have the Enterprise version of SQL server so that won't work. The database is over 200GB so shipping by tape or transferring full backups across the wire is impractical.
