Has anyone been successful managing an OLAP server via a RAS connection? I have even mapped to the server drives with an account with admin rights on the server.

Copy An Olap Database To A Remote Server Using SSIS
How to add a task to copy an OLAP database to a remote Sql server in control flow using SSIS 2005? This OLAP database is existed in the remote server and I just want to replace the existing one with the one just been updated in the SSIS package and the last task in the package is to copy the updated OLAP database and replace the one at the remote server. Hopfully during the copy and paste process it will not screw up the reports that are using the OLAP cubes at the remote server as the report data source. Thanks.

Remote Management Of Sql Server 2000
One of my clients is upgrading to Sql 2000. I currently administer her server using a SQL 7 interface but I will need to upgrade that interface to sql 8 now to be able to give her the same level of support. How do I go about installing the required clients on my desktop in such a way as to not interfere with my own installation of MSDE? I use Windows NT workstation 4. If I have a choice do I install developer's edition of SQL2000 or personal edition? We also have pcanywhere access but this is too slow and unsure for my money. Thank you, Bo Graham

Remote Management Of A SQL Server 2005
Hello, One thing I noticed is that Network connections to SQL Server 2005 databasees, updates and other thinks like Insert, Delete via remote are never covered, especially for new programmers. You see, new programmers like myself need special attention. The simplest thing is a big thing to the new programmer. This is why I would like to see a Forum or Topic that looks after the new programmer for remotely connecting to SQL Server 2005 from VB.Net or C#. Thanks.

SQL Server Express Database.mdf - Remote Management
Hi, I have installed an ASP.NET 2.0 application which uses a SQL Server Express database file on a client's network. I am able to connect to my client's network remotely over the internet. I would like to know if there's a way - and if so, how - to manage the Database file remotely. As a Sys Admin, I was wondering - if I have admin rights to a Win2k machinethat is hosting SQL Server 2000, do I have the ability using anycommand-line tools such as OSQL or ISQL to add, delete, or change accountsregistered in SQL Server for the various databases if I don't have access toa specific account within SQL Server?I ask, because the question that came up was - what if we have a DBA leaveunder less than amicable circumstances? Secure Remote Management On Shared SQL Server
I am trying to get my hosting company to provide a way to make secure encrypted connections from my desktop (where I am using Enterprise Manager and Aqua Data Studio) to their shared MS SQL Server. I've seen some references to SSH, but I don't understand how this works or how the host would implement it. I also read that an SSL certificate can be installed on SQL Server, but it doesn't seem as if EM or ADS can make SSL connections to SQL Server. (In case it makes any difference for either of these solutions, the hosting company has port 1433 open, and will not close it because some clients connect to the DB server from web apps on their own intranets.) Finally, if a web-based admin is used instead (like phpMyAdmin for MySQL), then which machine is the software installed on? Can it be on a web server that makes a local connection to the DB server or does it have to be on the DB machine? E.g., if I had a VPS or dedicated server at the same hosting company would I be able to install web-based admin software which would then connect to the host's shared SQL Server? Anyway, my host is giving incomprehensible (to me) objections to all of these ideas. Is there a reasonably simple way to do this on a shared DB server?

Error Connecting To Remote Server Using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express
Dear All, I am trying to connect to a remote sql server 2005. So I have install the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. When I try to connect I get the error below. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53). Can some one please help. I have even port no 1533 on my pc. Thanks.

Local Management Studio Cannot Connect To Remote IS

SQL Server Management Express Studio Management Tools
I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Error 15185: There Is No Remote User 'sa' Mapped To Local User '(null)' From The Remote Server 'DTS_FSERVER'.
I am trying to add a linked server from a AMD x64 server (Windows 2003) with SQL Server 2005 64 bit to a Server running SQL 2000. These are not in the same domain. I can create a linked server using the option "Be made using the login's current security context" but can not when trying to specify the security context, i.e. sa and the sa password. When I try I get the following message: Msg 15185, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_addlinkedsrvlogin, Line 98 There is no remote user 'sa' mapped to local user '(null)' from the remote server 'DTS_FSERVER'. I have several other x64 server that I have no problem creating a linked server and specifying sa and the sa password. The problem with using "the login's current security context" option is that I get an error when trying to run any Jobs against the linked server. The job fails withe the following error: Executed as user: NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM. Access to the remote server is denied because no login-mapping exists. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7416). The step failed. I'm sure the two errors are related. Any ideas what is going on?

Migrating OLAP Cubes From Analysis Services Version 8.00 From SQL Server 2000 To SQL Server 2005
Hi, I am trying to migrate OLAP Cubes from Analsysis Services in SQL Server 2000 version 8.00 to SQL Server 2005. I installed SQL Server 2005 as a named instance "SQL2005" . I then invoked the MigrationWizard.exe , where i gave the following Source Server - <My Server Name> Destination Server - <My Server Name>SQL2005 When i click Next i get the error when it tries to connect to destination server.The error msg is "Destination server: A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running" When i give the Destination Server as <My Server Name> i get the following error msg "Destination server: A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running" When i try to connect to Analysis Services from SQL Server Management Studio i get the following error TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to MISOM131. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient) ------------------------------ No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it (System) ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ Kindly let me know what i should do . OLAP Server
Anyone managed to get the OLAP server installed onto SQL7 Desktop? I'm running it on Win98 and the installation only offers the Client and sample applications. Obviously the client won't connect as there's no server to connect to. The documentation on what does/doesn't run in Desktop version doesn't mention OLAP server. OLAP In SQL Server 2005
HI, i am new to OLAP in Sql Server 2005, bascially i have read through lots of article on this OLAP and basically i get to know how it works and function theorically, but i could not find an article to show me step by step on how to create the cube and how to query the data from the cube. Would very much appreciated if somebody out there can explain to me in details how to i create cube from sql server 2005 as i totally no idea at all. Though i can view the sample cude in sql server 2005, but i dunno how to create it from my relational database. I need it very urgent as needed by my job functionality. Hope to get some explanation from you guys asap. Just assume i am totally new and please guide me step by step to create a normal and simple cube and query from the cube. OLAP Server Stability
Is anyone satisfied with stability of OLAP-services ? We´ve got a cube with 103 Levels and about 1.100.000 rows in the fact table. After processing the cube everything works fine. After changing the fact-table (new rows) the only option is to process the cube (no incremental update or refresh offered). OK. After processing the cube (which sometimes failes) the cube sometimes containes wrong data !? Sometimes during operation with the OLAP-Client(inSight from arcplan) the data changes. Sometimes it is not possible to connect to the cube. Did anyone have same or other or better experience ? Keen to discuss !

Connecting To OLAP Server
We are running SQL Server 7.0, Service Pack 3, on a NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5a?) server. The server is running both SQL Server and OLAP. When attempting to connect to the OLAP instance on the NT 4.0 server from a local PC, also running SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 3, the following error message is displayed: "Cannot retrieve the repository information from the server [datamartact]." Note: 'datamartact' is the name of the NT 4.0 server. Does anyone encountered this message before? I keep getting this error when trying to connect users to the OLAP server from Excel (using SQL 7.0). "Unable to open connection. Cannot Connect to server 'OLAP Server Name'. OLAP server error: The operation failed due to network problems." When I use this excel on my machine it works just fine. Any ideas?

Sizing An OLAP Server
Hi there, We are experiencing some contention of resources between our RDBMS and our OLAP environment; both SQL2005; so we are going to put the OLAP side of life onto another seperate box. Therefore I need to work out what sort of requirements we are going to need; and this is where i have no idea. I have had a look at the HP sizers, however this is looking primarily at normal RDBMS setups rather than specifically for OLAP. Is there any specifics that I need to consider/nail down before working this out? To give you an idea: We currently have 210 million rows in our main fact table, and each row is averaging about 330 bytes The size of our current OLAP database is only 4GB It appears as though we are currently getting anywhere between 6 and 20-30 concurrent users Considering the above; I would have thought a dual core cpu setup (maybe x2) with 8-10GB of ram would have been the ticket? Now I have done a server sizing exercise for a normal SQL2005 installation; considering temp db on seperate spindles to the log and database tables etc; but what sort of considerations do I need to do for a server running SSAS? Registering Server In OLAP Manager
I'm trying to register a remote OLAP server under OLAP Manager. After I enter the machine name I get the following: Errors occurred while connecting to <server>. Cannot open the following registry key on the server computer (<server>): SoftwareMicrosoftOLAP ServerServer Connection Info Do you still want to register this server? The noticeable thing about this error message is that the registry key is missing the first level (HKEY_....). Has anyone been able to register a remote server? I can run OLAP Manager on the server without a problem. I just uninstalled and reinstalled OLAP services on the server and my desktop. There is a registry key with this path under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on the server.

All of my client boxes connect nicely to MS OLAP Server except one which fails with the following message: "Cannot connect to the registry on the server computer (servername)" where servername is the name of the server on which OLAP server resides. Anybody seen this???

Unable To Connect To OLAP Server
I have SQL Server 7 SP1 OLAP Server SP1 installed on two WIN NT 4 SP5 machines. On machine 1 I can connect to the locally installed OLAP Server, but cannot connect to machine 2's OLAP server. (and vice versa machine 2 cannot connect to machine1's OLAP server) The error I am getting is the following: "Error occurred while connecting to machine2 Cannot open the following registry key on the server computer(machine2): SOFTWAREMicrosoftOlap ServerServer Connection Info" Can anyone give me a clue as to what is going on. I have installed SQL with Windows authentication mode and installed crystal Analysis 9.0 I have configured Crystal OLAP connection setup. OLAP Server Returns Incorrect Data
I'm working with PivotTable on Excel 2000 which is connected to an OLAP server (from SQL Server 7 installation). The pivot is intended to analyze Sales during April 2001. Yesterday I found out that OLAP/Excel returned/displayed inconsistent data. The 'April Total' value is NOT equal to the 'Quarter 2 Total' (I already inspected the underlying database and sure that there is absolutely NO data for months after April 2001). The value for 'April Total' is the correct one. I'm not sure whether the problem resides on the OLAP Server or Excel (pivot) itself.
