SQL Express Uninstall Utility

I just installed SQL over an expired version of Express and can't get the SQL server service to start.  Does anyone know of a utility that will clean the registry of everything SQL (after I uninstall 2005)

SQLCMD Utility Will Not Start, Uninstall/reinstall Problem ?
Neither the SQLCMD utility nor SQL Management Studio Express will function any longer but the DB engine still works when connecting via VB Express or EXCEL VBA. SQLCMD tries to connect to the internet then stops with no message.
Problems started with SQL Management Studio Express whereby the screen dialog seems corrupted when I start to use New Query or try to copy and paste queries so I uninstalled and reinstalled SQL Express and seem to have made the problem worse. My system has Office 2003 with Business Contact Manager (ie MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ) which seemed to cause a problem with the SQL Express install so I uninstalled Business Contact Manager but still no success.
Anything special I need to do in the uninstall/reinstall that I might not be doing ?
Thanks.

Cannot Install Or Uninstall Anything After Uninstall SQL Server Express In A &&"wrong&&" Order

My computer is a Dell Optiplex with 3G Hz CPU, 3G memory and Windows XP SP2.

First the computer adminstrator installed a Visual Basic 2005 Express which worked well. Then he installed a SQL Server Express but seemed not working well. So he uninstalled it and try to reinstall. But he did not use the official Visua Studio 2005 "uninstall" tool nor uninstall it in the "correct" order (understandable because he is not our DBA). Then we can never reinstall SQL express.

Finally I was granted administrator priviledge and tried to reinstall SQL Express for seveal times but always failed. I uninstalled VB Express and .Net Framework 2.0 (with some failure messages but finally they were gone). Then I cannot uninstall any software. For example, I cannot uninstall seemingly trivial software like VB101SampesAll or SQL Server 2000 Books Online. I cannot install VB Express, .Net Framawork or any other downloaded Microsoft software. Mostly the error code is 29527.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Uninstall SQL Express
I mistakenly installed SQL express using remote desktop, now I cannot do anything in it. Nobody could help with that either but based on posts with the same message, I tried uninstalling sql server. It wouldn't uninstall nor can I repair or reinstall. Uninstalling thru Add or Remove Programs only resulted in the program listing being removed from Add or Remove Programs. Most of the sql server programs are still installed. They can be run but continue to malfunction. When I try a new installation, I get a message that the programs are already installed. How can I correct this without reinstalling Win XP? Please help. Your valuable feedback is greatly appreciated.

SQL Express Uninstall Fails
Hi,

I am trying to uninstall SQLExpress from a win2k3SP1 server but it keeps on failing with, "Unable to write to directory ...MSSQLData.", while trying to remove the data files. I am a local admin on the box so there should be no problem with my permissions, right?

Anyone had this one before?

Thanks in advance

How Do You Uninstall SQL Express Completely?
Hello Win XP Pro, SP3 ,.Net 1.1,2.0,3.5, ASP.Net 2.0.

I made the mistake of trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services as a requirement to install dashCommerce.  That was a big mistake.  It never installed and it screwed up my current install of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

I have been trying for two days now to get my SQL Server 2005 Express Edition back to normal.  I can't run and test my programs in VS2005 that use SQL anymore and it's keeping me from getting my work done.

I tried uninstalling everything SQL using Add Remove Programs.  Deleted all temp, SQL and unneeded files.  Ran defrag.  Restarted my computer.  I did all that three times and still am unable to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

On the existing components screen, i get the message "The following components that you chose to install are already installed on the machine.  To view a report of available options and alternatives click on details."

It won't allow me to check any options and when i click next, it gives the error "None of the selected features can be installed or upgraded. Setup cannot proceed since no effective change is being made to the machine. To continue, click Back and then select features to install. To exit SQL Server Setup, click Cancel"

All i can do is cancel out of it.

Any help from anybody to figure out why i can't install SQL Express again would be gratefully appreciated.

This problem is keeping me from doing my work, it's frustrating.  Is there a way to totally clean my machine of any SQL so i can get back to doing my job?

Thanks,
Tony

How Do You Uninstall SQL Server Express Edition?
While installing VS 2008, I chose the full install and it installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition. Since I do have a full version of SQL Server running on this machine, I would like to uninstall the Express edition. But I do not see the application listed in the Add/Remove Programs.

Thanks.

Cannot Uninstall SQL Server Express 2005

When I attempt to uninstall SS 2005 Express from the Add/Remove control panel I select the instance and click next. Then I confirm that I want to remove by selecting Finish. It then scans the computers configuration the screen dissappears without any errors. The SQL Server 2005 is still in the Add/Remove panel and has not been removed.

Does anyone know how to manually uninstall or is there something else I can do to get the uninstaller to do it for me?

SQL Express 2005 + CU5 Uninstall Error
Hello

I wonder if someone could help me.

I am currenltly working on a scripted install of SQL 2005 Express SP2 with Cumulative update 5 and am experiencing some very frustrating problems.

I need to provide the ability to script the install and script the deinstall, both of which are fine. However..

When i try to uninstall SQL from the script (or manually from add/remove programs) i get the following error

The installer has encountered an unexpected error. The error code is 2709. The specified Component name ('SxSComp.42B34EA79EE84812AF478E608EA6C2F8') not found in Component table.

The error occurs when the SQL 2005 uninstaller attempts to uninstall the workstation components, the result is a partial uninstall of SQL 2005 which becomes very difficult to uninstall.

Would appreciate any assistance anyone could provide me.

Thanks

James Hodgson

Cannot Uninstall SQL Express 2005 Instances
Using Windows XP SQL Express 2005...

In Windows Installer Clean Up, it shows two instances:

MSSMLBIZ (used by Outlook Enterprice 07 with BCM)

Control, Panel, Add Remove, Remove SQL Express 2005, shows:

  CSOLUTION (which is disabled)

  MSSMLBIZ (enabled for BCM 07)

  SQLEXPRESS (which is disabled)

The disabled instances will not start due to various error messages.

Under Computer, Manager, Services, more instances are listsed, which also will not start:

SQLEXPRESSDATA for example (which is disabled)

I would like to remove CSOLUTION since it is not used; it will not remove from control panel or manually via http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/909967 .  You get various error messages, such as

Another application has exclusive access to the file c:program files...errorlog. Please shut down all other applications, then try again.

Even after a reboot, I still get this error.

I want to install and use instance SQLExpress, and I cannot remove it, but it will not start, and trying to reinstall it fails.

It was simple under MSDE 2000, no2 it seems to be impossible.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Honestly, I would like to uninstall SQL Express 2005 completely (except the BCM instant), and start over, but canot find a way to do this.   SQL Express is a mess, I have spent days trying to resolve this, and am still where I started.
 Thanks, bob

SQL Express Uninstall On Vista PC Fails
I have written a custom executable thats purpose is to find and uninstall a named instance.  It works as intended on PC's running XP and Vista with UAC turned off.  However when I try to run the exe on a Vista Machine with UAC on, it does not fully remove the named instance.

It leaves behind in the folder path: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2MSSQL" three folders: "Data", "LOG", and "Template Data".  However it does remove all of the registry entries and all of the services attached to that named instance.

Why oh why does it have permission to remove everything else besides these 3 folders, and how (programmatically) can I give it the proper admin rights?

the code that does all the work from the cmd:

msiexec /x "ProductCode" /passive

The removal of these three folders is important b/c  when you try to reinstall the namedinstance it gives an error message saying files already exist inside the "Data" Folder.

How To Silently Uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express
Hi.

I'm trying to perform a silent install/uninstall of SQL Server 2005 Express.
I manage to install silently, but when trying to uninstall with the following command line:

sqlexpr.exe /qb REMOVE=ALL INSTANCENAME=<INSTANCENAME>

there is one item left behind - "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client"

Does anyone know how to uninstall this as well?

Also, if MSXML 6.0 is already installed when installing SQL Server 2005 Express, when performing an uninstall with the above command line, MSXML 6.0 is also uninstalled, which may not be the desired outcome.

SQL Server Express Edition Uninstall Nightmare
I have been trying to uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for a day and a half to no avail. I have cleaned it out of the registry, and I have done everything possible to get rid of this, er, Microsoft virus software. I have erased every folder that has any SQL Server name after I stopped all SQL server services in the task list. All I want to do is install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition so that I can use the BI Manager to create a DTS package. Does anyone have any utilities that might help?

SQL Server Express 2005 Uninstall Failures
This is getting extremely annoying. I cannot unistall another instance of SQL Server Express 2005.

I have had three different servers with the separate installs of SQL Server Express 2005. I remove the product (Backup Exec, Dell IT Assistant, Microsoft System Center 2007). I uninstall the third-party product and they leave behind SQL Server Express 2005. For what idiotic reason I do not know. Then I try and remove SQL Server Express 2005 and for the third straight time it fails.

Here's the latest failure error, "TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup

The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Setting Internal Properties. The error is: Fatal error during installation.

Does anyone know how to actually remove SQL Server Express 2005? This is pathetic.

Can't Uninstall Sql Server 2005 Express [FIXED]
Ok, I know that there have been a few posts out there asking for the same thing (uninstalling sql server) but none of them seem to help me out.

I was working a website in Visual Studio and I decided I would install IIS and make the website available to the network.  However I got the infamous error 500.  After looking forever on how to solve this I came to: How to set required NTFS permissions and user rights for an IIS 5.0 Web server on the Support website.  When I finished that, the problem still persisted.  I then found out about reinstalling MS DTC to fix my problems.  I followed all of the steps and rebooted my computer.  I then checked to see if my asp and asp.net pages worked.  They did, but when I went to a page that had to connect to SQL server I couldn't.  So I went to services and I found that the SQL Server service didn't start.  I tried to start it and an error popped up.  I checked the system event log and found that the server did not have access to certain files needed to run SQL server (probably because of setting the permissions).  When I gave the permissions to the server, the access errors went away, but i got the: TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error <XXXXXX>, status code <XXX>.  So after trying to fix that (without success), I decided to use system restore to go back to before I tried to reinstall MS DTC.  But SQL Server would still not start.  At that point I decided to uninstall SQL Server, but I cannot even start setup.  (I get an ARP error or something like that.)  So basically I can't uninstall SQL Server, and I still have to reinstall MS DTC to get IIS to work.  Is there any way to completely remove SQL Server so I can reinstall it with this error?

Thank you in advance for your help with this matter.
_____________________________________________________

EDIT: Nevermind, I found a way to install SQL server.  I redownloaded the setup from the website and ran the self-extractor.  I went to the directory where the files were extracted and copied them to a separate folder. From there I copied the files that were missing over to the Microsoft SQL Server folder in Program Files and placed the files in their correct subfolders.  From there I removed all of the sql server installed files from Add or Remove Programs (this time without an error) and reran the self-extracting installer provided in the download.  From there I ran the installer normally until the end where the installation of the actual server failed because the server wouldn't start.  From there I went back to the directory where I copied the files over and went to the Setup directory.  From there I opened SqlRun.msi and followed the instructions.  Then SQL Server installed!!!  I resetup IIS and SQL Server and ran my website and it worked!

SSEUtil.exe SQL Server Express Utility
All,

When I try to start the SQL Server Express Utility  (SSEUtil.exe), I get the following crash output message below ...

I have checked all of my instances.  The all work with windows authentication and sql server authentication.

I have used the surface area configration manager to allow 'everything' and rebooted my machine.

I have tested each through osql. I have turned my firewall on an off.  The problem stilll persists.

Could this have something to do with my SQL Services running under the local account?

SQL Server 2005 Express - Service Pack 2 Uninstall !??
Hello All:

On my backup server running Symantec BackupExec 11D, I wanted to install Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 2005 Express.  I started performing the update using "Windows Update", but cancelled the upgrade process just before it started to install (right after the downloading/verifying download phase of Windows update).

Now when I try to find the SP2 update using Windows Update, it doesnt show up on the update website.  Rebooting the server doesnt help.  I manually downloaded the file for SQL 2005 Express SP2 and tried installing it, but it says "the component is already installed" and I have to exit the process.

BackupExec 11D is running fine as of now, and it might not face problems later.. but I am not sure.  Is there any way to uninstall SP2 and re-install it again!??

Any guidance/pointers is greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot in advance.

Sql Server Express 2005 Newbie: Bcp Utility
I'm trying to learn how to use the bcp utility... but I keep getting an error message that says:
SQLState = 08001, NativeError = 2Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2].SQLState = HYT00, NativeError = 0Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Login timeout expiredSQLState = 08001, NativeError = 2Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
 The command i'm running is:
bcp territore.dbo.import in territorydata.csv -T -c
territore is my database name... and dbo i think is the owner name.
and the table is called Import
I don't know how to check the default settings to see if remote connections are enabled.  Any help would be appreciated.

How To Uninstall SQL Express Reporting Services Without Uninstalling The Database Engine?
When the SQL Express Sp 1 with Advanced Services came out, I just had to install the Reporting Services. I did manage to install it, but after tampering with it, I've messed it up seriously. So now I'd like to uninstall Reporting Services, but not the whole SQL Express, or more spesifically - not the database engine. But is this possible?

I've tried going through Add / remove programs and selected Change components instead of Uninstall. I've tried selecting uninstall as well, but this seems to only allow me to uninstall the whole thing. I'd rather not do that. Off course, if this is the only way to uninstall RS, I'll do it, but I thought I'd check here first...

So, anyone got any advice?

Standard Edition Fails To Install, Express Edition Fails To Uninstall
We are trying to install the Standard Edition of SQL Server 2005. We already have SQL Express installed. Standard won't install and Express won't uninstall.

We have tried every suggestion we can find and some we made up. When we try to install Standard, we get to the bit where you choose what you want to install and the only thing available is workstation components.

There are so many cases of this on the Internat that I can't believe MS have not solved the issue. And I am stunned that they want to charge us more money to talk to us about how to fix something we just paid them an arm and a leg for!

What do I need to tell you to get some idea of where to go next with this?

SQL 7 Uninstall HELP!!!
Hello,

I need some space on my machine. I have SQL 7 on it, and I want to completely remove it from my system. I have done the following:

1. Used the SQL Uninstall to uninstall
2. Removed MSSQL7 folder using win explorer
3. MSSQL folder in (HKEY_LOCALMACHINESOFTWAREMICROSOFTMSSQL7)
4. Rebooted the machine

Yet I see traces of SQL7 on my machine! When I tried to reinstall, it told me that there was a license already on the machine.

What do I need to do to completely wipe it out?

Tried To Uninstall Replication
I had replication installed between my two SQL servers with no problems until I changed the Primary Key attribute on one of the replicating tables. After that one change, I continued to receive errors for one week about failed replication (due to this one table!). I tried removing Replication so that I could "reinstall" it, but my Publicating server will not show the option to 'Install Publishing..' in the Server Tool. I followed the advice found on "SWYNK.com/ch17.asp" as it stated:

"Uninstalling Replication Completely
Carefully consider all options before you opt to remove replication entirely from the system. This operation shuts down all replication to all subscribing servers, and it does so in a somewhat brute force manner by removing the replication option from the server and deleting the distribution database.

There are three steps for uninstalling replication in SQL Server, as follows:

1)Discontinue all replication services, all publication and subscription services, between this system and other servers with which it is working.
2)Turn off the replication option at the server engine level.
3)Drop the distribution database. "

I still cannot get the option to Install Publishing again. In fact, I continue to get the option to "Uninstall Publishing.." in the Server tool. I stopped/started services dozens of times with no luck. Any help would be great !!!!

I don't understand why!!!

How To Uninstall Sql 7.0 Clean
I have some problem in the unattended unsintall for SQL 7.0
with
isuninst.exe -fc:mssqluninst.isu

The other way to manual uninstall clean , as I read from this forum is :
1. delete the c:mssql7 directory
2. remove the entries for sql 7.0 in registry and reboot

But what are the registries created by the SQL 7.0 that have to be deleted ?
Is it the whole subtree
hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftmssqlserver ??

Any precaution ?
Thx. in advance.

SQL SP2 Uninstall Needed....
Hi,

Somehow, ignorantly, I managed to install SQL 7 SP2 on a computer that didn't have SQL 7 yet, only 6.5. Don't ask me how it allowed this,
but it did. In any case, now I have a problem. When I try to install SQL 7, it tells me I can't install an older version than what already exists,
and that I should uninstall it first. Well, I looked in the Control Panel, but there's no entry there to uninstall. I deleted all the SQL 7.0 keys I could
find in the registry, and still it refuses to install. Can anyone tell me just what the heck I have to delete in order to get SQL 7 to install on this
machine?

Thanks!

Joe

Uninstall/Install
Hi,

I am wondering if I am going to encounter any problems when I uninstall SQL Server 2005 standard edition and install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

I am asking this as I found out today that a project I am developing (have been working on this for a few weeks now) that we're to be using Express edition. I am just hoping that I'm not going to come across any problems by doing this?
