SQL Server 2005 64bit Install - Missing Management Studio
Good Afternoon,
I just installed SQL Server 2005 64bit on a fresh system with no other applications loaded on running on the new server.
The only other component that was installed with the SS2K5 database services is SSIS. The base installation and the SP2 patch went on perfect.
I went looking for the Management Studio thru the Start menu options and it is NOT under the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 group. The only options under the SS2K5 group are "Configuration Tools" and "Docs and Tutorials".
Here are file names that I downloaded from the MS website and installed.
SW CD SQL Svr Enterprise Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #1 x64 MLF.x11-57796 (which is a zipped)
SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x64-ENU
There was also another zipped file that I tried to install but it seems to be a duplicate of the zipped file above:
SW CD SQL Svr Enterprise Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #2 x64 MLF.x11-57797
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks ALL!

Management Studio Missing After Installing SQL Server 2005 Dev
I've just installed SQL Server 2005 Development Edition x64 on Windows XP x64bit. The actual server (as well as Integration, Reporting Services etc) installs fine, I can connect to it via Visual Studio 2005 fine. However, all of the software tools are missing including Management Studio, Business Intelligence Studio etc. They don't show up in the start menu at all and I can't find them in the Program Files directory. Anyone know how I can get them back? I've tried reinstalling SQL Server 2005, reformatting Windows XP x64, I'm at my wits end!! Many thanks!

How To Install Management Studio Express 2005 After VS2008 On Server 2008?
Ok so here's what happened: Installed Server 2008 (64bit) Installed VS2008 (+SQL 2005 Express, by default) I've always installed SQL 2005 Dev (including the SQL Management Studio) before installing VS. Now I am trying to install just the management studio on this machine without success. I tried installing the SQL workstation tools package from the SQL 2005 DVD but the installer detects the tools installed by SQL express (osql, etc.., but no management studio GUI) and the installer refuses to install anything else. I also tried downloading the separate installer for SQL management studio but it doesn't like something also: first thing the installer does is display this mesage: "Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system For more information on supported configurations, see the product documentation." Any way to do this without having to reinstall VS? Thanks.

Can't Install 2005 SQL Server Management Studio, It Doesnt Show Up. What A Joke!
Hello I have wasted several hours on this simple problem and I'm ready to give up. I simply want SQL Server Management Studio on my laptop so I can connect to our 2005 servers and manage them. I have several different versions of 2005 from our MSDN subscription including but not limited to: SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition (MSDN Library DVD) SQL 2005 Workgroup Edition SQL 2005 Standard Edition Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server (SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition) Everytime I tried to install it, the Server Management Studio simply would not install. I looked for the exe files and didn't find them. I verified the path several times and they simply didn't install. I googled and found a few solutoins but none helped. For example on: http://aspadvice.com/blogs/name/archive/2007/09/24/Installing-SQL-Server-Management-Studio-with-SQL-Server.aspx They stated to go to the 'Tools' folder on the CD and run it from there, I do not have these folders on my SQL 2005 CD/DVDs. I tried to reinstall it a few times with selection only the management tools for the client, but it thinks I have SQL 2005 installed!!! I uninstalled it from add/remove, and it didn't work. I deleted the folders and it didn't work. I ran msicuu2.exe and that still isn't working. Are there ANY suggestions on how to get this freaking Server Management Studio installed? MS really blew it on this one. Thanks in advance.

How Can I Install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition's Management Studio On A Desktop Machine?
I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!

The program shortcut "Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt" seems to be mising from the "Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt" Start menu added by the current Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit. Where is it? How to workaround? I am trying to do Download details SQL Server 2005 Samples and Sample Databases (April 2006) -> GettingStartedWithSQLSamples.htm which says "a. What's wrong? How to fix or workaround? I'd install .NET SDK 2.0 to get it's Command Prompt but that's about 570MB merely for a command prompt! Thanks for your help, -Mike Parker

I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling a few times but it does not work. Could someone please help in resolving this. Appreciate it!

Install 64bit SSRS On An Existing 64bit SQL Server Installation
We have a 64bit installation of SQL Server (SSIS, SSAS) running and working fine. There is a requirement to install 64bit SSRS on this existing setup. The problem is: While running the SQL Server Setup wizard, the Reporting Services checkbox remains greyed out. In other words, there isnt an option to select SSRS for installation. So the question is: Is it even possible to install 64bit SSRS on an existing 64bit SQL server installation - given that SSRS wasnt installed during the first pass. PS: The SQL Server is SP2 on a Windows Server 2003 configured as an App Server.

Visual Studio 2005 - SQL Server 3.1 Integration Skipped On Vista 64bit OS
I've been struggling to get the prerequisites correct for some time now. What I have: I have Visual Studio 2005 Professional Express editions of VS do not suit my needs I have Vista Ultimate 64 bit as my OS, on my development machine What I need: To embed a SQL database within my application preferably integrated with my IDE What I want to avoid: Spending $700 to upgrade VS for the purposes of one project Having to develop on a differant OS for the purposes of one project My problem: Upon a fresh install of Visual Studio 2005 on my development machine, SQL Server Compact edition does not appear in the refrences list in the C# IDE, nor does it appear as an option when creating a DB through server explorer, nor do any of the other integrated features seem to work when following the documentation. However, when I install on my laptop which happens to run Vista 32 bit, everything is fine, appears where expected and works as expected. Why cannot I not develop using SQL Server Compact 3.1 and VS 2005 just because I am running a 64 bit OS? Vista Ultimate was the most expensive option, I'd expect it to be the superset of eveything. Am I missing something? I also tryed SQL Server 3.5, but it will not integrate with VS 2005 and requires VS 2008 for all features. I develop other projects on this machine and environment with no problem at all, why such problems when it comes to SQL Server? Did MS just expect all developers to drop $800 for an upgrade along with $600 for an OS? I do not run a company, I don't have that kind of money.

Visual Studio 2005 Standard And SQL Server Management Studio?
I am new to visual studio and I am still not sure of all its components and features. I installed visual studio 2005 standard edition but cannot find SQL Server Management Studio? I guess this must be because it is not included with Visual studio 2005 standard. Is it included with VS 2005 professional? I want to add pictures of products to my shopping site using an SQL database and I’ve been told that SQL Server Management studio is required as it is a graphical tool. How would I go about obtaining the SQL server management studio. There seems to be different versions of SQL server that it is confusing to know which one to purchase. Will the SQL server 2005 version that comes with Visual studio standard be sufficient for me now right? I want to create a shopping site with hundreds, perhaps even thousands of products. I want to use an SQL server 2005 database. The database will include ‘dynamically generated’ product images if that is the correct terminology. My goodness, it seems I still have so much to learn. How Can I Re-install The Northwind Database In SQL Server Management Studio Express?Use SqlDataSet && The .Fill Method Properly?
Hi all, In my VB 2005 Express, I created a Windowds Form application "shcDataSet" that used 1 SqlConnection, 1 SqlDataSet and 3 SqlDataAdapters associated with the Northwind Database in my SQL Server Management Studio Express. The SqlConnection had "User Instance" in the following ConnectionString: Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataorthwnd.mdf";Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True. The 3 SqlDataAdapters were for the Northwind files "Customers", "Orders" and "Order Details" used in the SQLDataSet "AllOrders" with a AllOrders.xsd file. I ran the "shcDataSet" applicatyion and it worked fine. After the execution of "shcDataSet", I checked the Northwind database in my SQL Server Management Studio Express and clicked on "+" in front of Northwind database-I did not see any file showed up and I got the following error message: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.SmoEnum) Additional information: one or more files do not match the primary file of the database. If you are attempting to attach a database, retry the operation with the correct files. If this is an existing database, the file may be corrupted and should be restored from a backup. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error:5173). If I executed the "shcDataSet" application again, I got a new error: SqlException was unhandled - Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'myPC##myName' ------->daCustomers.Fill(AllOrders11, "Customers"). I have 3 questions to ask: (1) How can I re-install the Northwind database in SQL Server Management Studio Express? (2) When I use the .Fill Method, do I have to tell the SQL Server Management Studio Express to load and/or unload the Northwind files "Customers", "Orders" and "Order Details"? (3) After I executed the "shcDataSet", should I Upload the 3 Northwind files back to the SQL Server Management Studio Express? Please help and advise. Thanks, Scott Chang

Generate Scripts Missing Option In Management Studio
I was hoping this would be fixed in SP1, but it is still missing. Particularly in a development environment, I find it very useful to have scripts DROP first, then do a CREATE for tables. There is an option called Script Behavior that is supposed to allow this, according to the help text. There are supposed to be 3 options, DROP only, CREATE only and DROP + CREATE. This third option (the one I need) is missing. It does not show up on the drop down. Sorry, I don't want to be rude, but before anyone suggests it, yes, I know I can create a DROP script first and then go back in and create a CREATE script and then run both. And I don't want to change my methodology, and I don't want to do twice the work. All I would like to know is if anyone knows how to get this 3rd option to appear, or if its a known bug, is there a hotfix or a plan to fix it soon. Thanks, Wayne

SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Can't Be Found
Sorry if someone already covered this, but I can't find anything about it. I just installed (3 hours ago actually) SQL2005 Standard Edition (from the Launch event) on my machine, and i don't seem to have a shortcut to the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio anywhere. I looked for a likely executable, but couldn't find it anywhere. This wouldn't bother me as much if I could use Enterprise Manager from 2K, but SQL2005 will not allow it to register. How do I get this going? There are people here that want to inspect it's features, etc. I haven't got anything to show them.

At the lat screen it displayes the message that "SQL Server Management Studio Express installation could not be completed as it was intreupted". Though I did not do any thing? I tried at least 20 times but it ends up here. I followed all the steps as defined in SQL Server Express setup on Microsoft site? Any help would be appreciated. ADK

Then attach a datafile for my application which is installed on the server. I can run app and open database. All works fine. Then if I try to run SQL Server Management Studio again it can't connect: TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to HACSRV03. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.
