SQL Server 2008 :: Reporting Services Migration - Subscription Jobs Did Not Get Created

Apr 23, 2013

We are moving to a new data center. We have RS install on appweb server that points to different sql server for Reportserver and Reportservertempdb. So, We created a new virtual appweb server and new physical database sql server 2008 r2 at new DC. I did a fresh install of new reporting services 2008 r2 on appweb server. I backed up and restored Reportserver and reportservertempdb dbs from old 2005 sql server to new 2008 r2 database server.

During new RS configuration, I pointed databases to the new restored databases and restored encryption keys. When launched reporting services URL, it works fine.

I stopped and restarted reporting services after configuration.

However, I am not seeing any single job created on new database server. Old server had 20 jobs.

How do I get these subscriptions back to the new install? I thought this should be created with migration and I do not have to do anything.

One odd thing I had to do during config was that:

In scale-out deployment tab in RS configuration, it was showing both the new and old appweb server name as status joined. I was unable to remove the old server name by clicking 'remove server' there. So, I deleted old server name from keys table in Reportsserver as suggested by some forums to have a clean installation. Does it have anything to do with jobs not created?

What do I need to do now to get subscripts jobs created. Ther eare only 20 jobs here but another RS server has over 800 subscriptions that I can not mess up. So, need to find the issue and correct it before I can move on to the another RS instance.

Category/Parent Category Design And Querying

Jun 29, 2005

Hi,

I have a simple table:

Categories
----------
CategoryID
ParentID
Name

I want to associate my Products to a category so that I can search by category....ok.  If I just have a simlpe table:

CategoryProducts
-------------------
CategoryId
ProductId

I can link a product to a category.  Now, if I just link a product to a single category, such as the bottom leaf category:

Self Help / Personal Development / Spiritual / Meditation

I would link a product to the Meditation category.  However if I
click on Self Help while browsing, I want to see all items underneath
Personal Development, Spiritual and Meditiation.  So my question
is is this a good way to store the product-category relationships, or
should I put many entries into CategoryProducts to keep the queries
simlpe and faster? Are they faster doing it this way? In this way there
would be 4 entries for a product in meditation.  My personal idea
is that adding all entries up a tree arm of a category path will be
cumbersome to manage, but it does solve the problem of clicking on Self
Help and seeing all products that exist within sub-categories.  I
am sure an SQL query would be able to work this out, but I dont know if
performance would be something to consider on an ecommerce site? Are
there any patterns fo rthis stuff - seems a reasonably repeatable
pattern for business sites?

Thanks,

jr.

SQL Server 2008 :: Creating Multiple Copies Of A Database

Mar 21, 2015

I am creating a program that will take a master database and create separate databases for class room training.creating my own app to do this since it will have other stuff to do.i will have a master database that i will need to create multiple copies of. 2-20 copies, it is about 7GB large. it is used in a classroom training course for our company software. it will also copy a folder on the server onto multiple subfolders.each computer in the classroom will access its own copy of the database/windows folders.

What i am looking for is a fast/reliable way to create the multiple database copies. then when the training class is over and a new one is getting started, we will run my program to reset everything back to start.Should i detach/copy/attach or create a master backup and restore it 20 times. What kind of user access pitfalls will i need to look out for.

SQL Server 2008 :: Creating Primary Key On Temporary Table?

Apr 30, 2015

Environment: Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition (64-bit), 10.0.5520.0

I was doing a code review for another developer and came across this code:

CREATE TABLE dbo.#ABC
(
ReportRunTime DATETIME
,SourceID VARCHAR(3)
,VisitID VARCHAR(30)
,BaseID VARCHAR(25)

[Code] ....

This EXECUTES with no error or warning message. However, if I change this to CREATE the PK in an ALTER TABLE statement, I get the (expected by me) error:

CREATE TABLE dbo.#ABC
(
ReportRunTime DATETIME
,SourceID VARCHAR(3)
,VisitID VARCHAR(30)
,BaseID VARCHAR(25)
,OccurrenceSeqID INT

[code]...

==> Msg 8111, Level 16, State 1, Line 17 Cannot define PRIMARY KEY constraint on nullable column in table '#ABC'.

==> Msg 1750, Level 16, State 0, Line 17 Could not create constraint. See previous errors.

(note: As the #ABC table is an actual copy of a few of the columns in a "permanent" table, I will likely change the definition as follows such that the columns are defined to match the names / datatypes / NULLability:

SELECT TOP 0
CAST('01-01-1980' AS DATETIME) AS [ReportRunTime]
,SourceID
,VisitID
,BaseID
,OccurrenceSeqID

[Code] .....

Creating And Configuring JOBs Using Transac-SQL

Sep 17, 1999

I am new to SQL7 (in fact new to Database Management as well).

I am trying to write some store procedures to create and manage JOBs within SQL7 Server. For example, to cause data-migration to a different place everyday at certain time. I have tried to use things like sp_add_job. However, I kept getting messages like "Cannot find procedure sp_add_job" although I can see it under Master database. (I have been refering to Master database when I tried these commands).

What I would like to achieve at the end is to be able to specify and create JOBs entirely using Transac-SQL. (I have made it with the Enterprise manager, but that can not be the solution here. )Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated!

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Filegroup By Table Category

Oct 14, 2015

I'm being asked to create multiple filegroups for a new database based on the table type, transaction, lookup, misc... From what i'm reading this doesn't make sense. I'm reading either large tables get file groups, nonclustered indexes when they are about the same size of the data, or a few other reasons...

First of all, we are talking about the same disk (please don't ask me about how it is configured) and I'm not sure yet if restoring separate file groups is even going to be necessary.

So here are my questions (beyond, the test and see what happens) because in the end I'm going to probably have to do what i'm told. So this is for my professional knowledge.

1. Does file groups separated by table type make sense?
2. Should you put tables that are queried often together in the same or different file groups.
3. I'm pretty sure you can't restore single file group for write access, am I correct?

Looping Through Stored Procedure Inside Another Stored Procedure And Displaying The Category And Then Displaying 1 Item In Each Category

Sep 21, 2006

I used to do this with classic asp but I'm not sure how to do it with .net.Basically I would take a table of Categories, Then I would loop through those.  Within each loop I would call another stored procedure to get each item in that Category. I'll try to explain, Lets say category 2 has a player Reggie Bush and a player Drew Brees, and category 5 has Michael Vick, but the other categories have no items.Just for an example.. Category Table: ID   Category1      Saints2      Falcons3      Bucaneers4      Chargers5      FalconsPlayer Table:ID    CategoryID   Player                 News                                Player Last Updated1            1           Reggie Bush       Poetry in motion                                9/21/20062            1           Drew Brees         What shoulder injury?                        9/18/20063            5           Michael Vick       Break a leg, seriously.                       9/20/2006 Basically I would need to display on a page:SaintsReggie BushPoetry in MotionFalconsMichael VickBreak a leg, seriously. So that the Drew Brees update doesnt display, only the Reggie Bush one, which is the latest.I have my stored procedures put together to do this.  I just don't know how to loop through and display it on a page.  Right now I have two datareaders in the code behind but ideally something like this, I would think the code  would go on the page itself, around the html.

Seeking Advice: SQL Server On Win 2008 Virtual Server Or Just Win 2008?

Apr 23, 2008

Hello - does anyone have experience w/SQL Server 2005 in a virtual environment? I'm considering this for a production environment but not sure if performance will suffer. Our databases will have a lot of writing but not too much reading. A SSRS solution is currently the only app. connecting to the SQL db. Max users to server at any given time will be very low (~10 users max). But the databases are pulling in data from other, outside multiple data sources on a daily basis.

Any pointers to documentation or any advice?

Thanks,

Problem With Windows Server 2008 And SQL 2008 Express

Feb 25, 2008

Hello!
Recently, I set up server with Windows Web Server 2008 RC1, SQL 2008 Express beta, .NET 3.5, IIS 7.
I'm running ASP.NET web application with SQL database. Everything works fine until the first application state on the server expires. After that, any postback that starts a new application state on the server and connects to the database, results in the following error:
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.
Is this a bug that will be fixed in release of Windows / SQL or am I doing something wrong?
Many thanks for help,

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 CTP, February 2008

Mar 7, 2008

Hi all,

New to this so please be patient and please help.

I have developed an SQL 2005 Express command line option install for our company which has been working seamlessly for the last 18 months.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259.aspx

I downloaded the €œMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 Express CTP, February 2008€? from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=749BD760-F404-4D45-9AC0-D7F1B3ED1053&displaylang=en

I simply replaced the 2005 file €œSQLEXPR.EXE€? with the 2008 file €œ€?, recompiled the installation and tested only for it to fail. I than read the 2008 books online and noted the change in command line options.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=19DB0B42-A5B2-456F-9C5C-F295CDD58D7A&displaylang=en

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259(SQL.100).aspx

I then changed the command line to suit the Microsoft 2008 books online, recompiled the installation and tested only for it to fail once more.

Interestingly I tested the install from the default GUI and at the point of adding the €œsa€? login credentials it fails to allow the installation to proceed. Strangely by selecting the windows authentication credentials, €œnext€? than €œback€? it now allows me to add the €œsa€? login credentials and continues to install correctly as required.

I hope I have explained this clearly enough.

1. Is this a bug in the €œMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 CTP, February 2008€? installation?
2. If so is this causing the command line install options to fail?
3. How do I obtain a version of €œMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 Express€? that will work installing from the command line?

Thanks in advance.

Category Tables

Feb 25, 2004

What are the thoughts on using a categoy table? What I mean by this is to have a table used to hold simply a category identifier for other table(s).

Eg:

Hardware Table
Hadware (PK) | Category (FK) | Description | Finish | etc....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P1 | Plate | 4"x4"x1/4 plate | Painted |

HardwareCategories
Category (PK)
-----------------
Plate
Channel
Angle

Should this be done or simply provide a category field in the hardware table? I like the extra table because it kind of ensures that a user doens't add a plate with a category value "Plate", another user adds "plate", and another user adds "Plates", etc....

What are your thoughts if any?

Update Sys Category

Jan 27, 2008

I'm trying to remove a read only/stand by database that I believe was a messed-up attempt at log shipping. When I go through the interface it says 'cannot remove database because it is set up for replication'. If I try and 'directly update' the sys tables (yea I know you can't do that anymore) I get the error:

Msg 259, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Ad hoc updates to system catalogs are not allowed.

So my dilema is I just want to delete a database that was attempting to do log shippinig and is now stuck in read only/standby. How can this be done in SQL 2005?

Thanks,

Hi everyone -

I am building from the Time Tracker Start Kit, trying to get a better feel for how MS thinks we should do things.

In my editing, I have built a new Stored Procedure, trying to pull the newest entries for a specified person.

I have the following that will return all entries for a specific person, sorted by date, newest first:

TT_EntryLog.CategoryID = TT_Categories.CategoryID
