The Data Types Varchar And Varchar Are Incompatible In The Modulo Operator

Jan 4, 2008

I am trying to create a store procedure inside of SQL Management Studio console and I kept getting errors. Here's my store procedure.

Code Block
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sqlOutlookSearch]
-- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here
@OLIssueID int = NULL,
@searchString varchar(1000) = NULL
AS
BEGIN
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
-- interfering with SELECT statements.
SET NOCOUNT ON;
-- Insert statements for procedure here
IF @OLIssueID <> 11111
SELECT * FROM [OLissue], [Outlook]
WHERE [OLissue].[issueID] = @OLIssueID AND [OLissue].[issueID] = [Outlook].[issueID] AND [Outlook].[contents] LIKE + ''%'' + @searchString + ''%''
ELSE
SELECT * FROM [Outlook]
WHERE [Outlook].[contents] LIKE + ''%'' + @searchString + ''%''
END

And the error I kept getting is:

Msg 402, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sqlOutlookSearch, Line 18

The data types varchar and varchar are incompatible in the modulo operator.

Msg 402, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sqlOutlookSearch, Line 21

SQL Server 2008 :: Custom Alert Is Not Emailing Operator?

Apr 8, 2015

I am trying to create an alert when there are more than 2500 connections to our ailing SQL Server.However, for now, I need to restart the SQL server service because users begin complaining they can't connect.

1) I created an operator - me.

2) I created a job which runs a query.

INSERT INTO Sessions_alert
SELECT host_name, program_name, login_name, count(c.session_id ) num_sessions, getdate()
FROM sys.dm_exec_connections c JOIN sys.dm_exec_sessions s on c.session_id = s.session_id
GROUP BY host_name,program_name,login_name ORDER BY 4 DESC

3) I created an alert - included the job from above. Type performance condition alert. Object - SQL Server General Statistics. Counter - User connections.Alert if counter rises above 50. Just testing. I really want to know when it gets past 2500.

4) I've set the alert to email and delay is between responses 2 minutes.

It history tables says number of occurences is 18964. However, I don't receive an email.

Shouldn't the alert send an email? Do I need to include email code in the job?

SQL Server 2008 :: Notify Operator Only Works Some Of The Time?

May 25, 2010

I've been working with Database Mail for some time but I haven't seen this one before. I have a maintenance plan that does the following:

1. Check database integrity
On Success:
2. Perform backups
On Success:
3. Perform a maintenance cleanup
On Success:
4. Notify operator of success

Steps 1 - 3 are also linked (via On Failure arrows) to a singular Notify Operator of Failure task.

The maintenance plan does exactly what I want it to, and if everything goes correctly, it successfully sends an email to an operator.

If steps 1 - 3 fail, the job ends in an error state, but does not trigger the Notify Operator of Failure task.

I was able to recreate the problem by creating another maintenance plan on the same instance with the same steps. Its "Notify Operator" on failure task also doesn't work.

It occurs to me that maybe I'm missing something, so here's some of the details of my SQL server:

SQL 2008 + SP1 (10.0.2531) x64 on Windows 2008 R2
DB Mail profile is public and default

I do have a slightly unusual profile, in that it uses two accounts:

1. A connection to a SharePoint SMTP service (where it catches emails directed at document libraries)

2. A connection to a UNIX-based smtp server (which routes mail to regular mailboxes and my SQL DBA mailing list)

The Profile will attempt to send to the SharePoint server first. The SharePoint server does not relay. If the document library email address doesn't exist, SQL will raise a warning (in the Database Mail log) and the profile will use the second account on the list, which is a real mail server and can relay the message to any mailbox.

It works really well, actually. When the maintenance plan completes successfully, the message is sent to the drop folder on the SharePoint server, and SharePoint routes the email to the correct library, and we have a central archive of all DB Mail notifications.

But if the job fails (for example, if the backup disk is out of space), none of this happens. According to the log, the job doesn't even try to send a notification. Looking at the DBMail log, the Mail service does not start. No email is delivered to the drop folder of the receiving SMTP server. So I don't think my Database Mail configuration is the problem here. It is apparently something to do with the way the job itself handles errors.

Invalid Operator For Data Type. Operator Equals Boolean AND, Type Equals Datetime.

May 18, 2004

I am getting a error message saying: Invalid operator for data type. Operator equals boolean AND, type equals datetime.

I traced the pointer to @gdo and @gd, they are both dates!

INSERT INTO AdminAlerts values (CURRENT_USER, 'UPDATE', getDate(), @biui, 'Updated booking, ID of booking updated: ' & @biui & ', Booking date and time before/after update: ' & @gdo & '/' & @gd & ', Room number before/after update: ' & @rno & '/' & @rn & ' and Customer ID before/after update: ' & @cio & '/' & @ci)

If I cut that two dates out it works fine.
Could someone tell me the syntax to include a date in a string :confused:

SQL/CLR DML Error: Invalid Use Of Side-effecting Or Time-dependent Operator

Apr 18, 2008

I am attempting to use a CLR Function to perform an update operation, since a SQL UDF will not allow this within the function. For the POC, I hard-coded the db connection string and setup the assembly to use EXTERNAL_ACCESS. This worked fine and the update operation was running properly via the CLR Function. However, I now want to make the code run in the current db context without plugging in a connection string. So, I've applied "context connection=true" instead of the explicit db string. When I do this, I am receiving the following error:

A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user defined routine or aggregate
'MyTestCLRUDF':

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid use of side-effecting or time-dependent operator in 'UPDATE' within a function.

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException:

etc.

I don't understand why simply swapping the connection string would cause this issue. I assume this is somehow related to permissions, and I am missing something. I've tried using each of the three permission levels (external, safe, and unsafe), and no luck.

Any help is appreciated! Here's the code:

public static bool MyTestCLRUDF(Guid myID)

{

string connectionString = "context connection=true";

using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString))

{

SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("MySprocName", connection);

command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;

SqlParameter parameter = new SqlParameter("@ID", myID);

command.Parameters.Add(parameter);

connection.Open();

command.ExecuteNonQuery();

connection.Close();

}

return true;

}

Pre-requisiste Install Error 87 Invalid Parameter From SQL 2005 Dev Ed On Server 2008 RC0

Oct 2, 2007

The subject pretty much sums the problem up. I am trying to get a database installed on Server 2008 RC0. The public information says SQL 2005 SP2 should work, but I cannot get the base SQL 2005 installed in order to apply the service pack. When I run the installation, I immediately get an error when trying to install the pre-requisites. Specifically, the .NET 2.0 Framework errors with code 87, "invalid parameter".

I have found a couple references to this error code, but nothing to do with Server 2008 and RC0. I have tried using a directory with no spaces, and tried the EXE vs ISO installation, but they everything fails. I don't know if there is a way to bypass the .NET 2.0 Framework install - since it's already on the machine anyway.

Thanks in advance for any help!

SQL Server 2008 :: Optimize Memory With Varchar (max) Datatype

Apr 9, 2015

I am building a table change log that will track each attribute update and include the original and new values.

[BatchYearMonthKey] [int] NULL,
[BatchYearMonthDayKey] [int] NULL,
[AccountID] [varchar](200) NULL,
[Attribute] [varchar] (200) NULL,
[Old_ValueAtrDefault] [varchar] (200) NULL,
[New_ValueAtrDefault] [varchar] (200) NULL,
[Old_ValueAtrLong] [varchar] (max) NULL,
[New_ValueAtrLong] [varchar] (max) NULL

The challenge that the spectrum of varchar lengths across the table. I have one attribute that requires varchar(max) and all other attributes (about 40) are varchar (200).

I am trying to accomplish the following:

Account ID Status
1 Enabled

Now changed to

AccountID Status
1 Disabled

My log table will look like the following:

[BatchYearMonthKey] BatchYearMonthDayKey] [AccountID] [Attribute] [Old_ValueAtrDefault] [New_ValueAtrDefault] [Old_ValueAtrLong] [New_ValueAtrLong]
201504 20150409 1 Status Enabled Disabled NULL NULL

My question:

I created two fields (Old_ValueAtrLong and New_ValueAtrLong) dedicated for the one attribute that is a varchar (max). I was trying to avoid storing [Status] for example that's a varchar(200) in a field that is varchar(max). Is this the right approach? Or are there other recommendations in how to handle storing the data in the most efficient manner?

SQL Server 2008 :: Removing 00-00-00 From Varchar Column In Table?

Jul 29, 2015

I've look at several different methods for removing leading zero's from a column but I need to remove trailing data from a VARCHAR column. For some reason, the old database saved the time along side the date in my client's app.

For example:

The old database format "2015-07-28 00:00:00"

I need the data in this column in the new database to only be the date "2015-07-28", there are alot of rows with this issue.

Is there a query I can run to remove the 00-00-00 from all of the rows? Some of the fields actually have a time in there like this: 2015-07-28 12:15:35, with this one, I don't think it's going to be easy but if I could at least remove the 00-00-00 from all the rows that have it, that would be a good start.

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2008 Report Invalid Parameter Warning Not Clearing Out

Jul 16, 2015

I am using SSRS 2008 and the reports we have use parameters of type Date/Time.  The reports work well when the parameter values are entered correctly.

When entering an invalid date format for one of the Date/Time parameters the following error is displayed "The value provided for the report '<parameter name>' is not valid for its type. (rsReportParameterTypeMismatch).  This seems to be working correctly as well.  However, when the correct date format is then entered for the report parameter for which the report threw an error, the error persists and the report doesn't run again.  Setting the parameter to "NULL" doesn't work either.

The only way to get the report to run again is to refresh the entire report.  Of course, if at that point one has entered a bunch of other parameter values, those values all disappear.

I have looked far and wide and have not found anything that works to allow me to resolve this issue.

Any suggestions on how I can get the large string data in the varchar column in DB2 into the varchar(max) column in SQL Server 2005?

Using LIKE Operator In An O BY Clause On SQL Server 2K5

Oct 3, 2007

I am migrating a classic ASP application that ran on Access to ASP.NET with SQL Server 2005 DB. I am having some trouble getting a query to work. It runs part of our courses section of the web site.
SELECT     CREDIT_DATA_LOCCODE.Loc_Code, CREDIT_DATA_LOCCODE.Loc_Name, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Fiscal, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Term, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Major_Code, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Status_Code, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Course_Number1, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Course_Number2, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Section_Number, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Course_Title, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Credits, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Credits_Other, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Website_link, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Description, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Instructor_1, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Instructor_2, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Location, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_LocCode, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Dates, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_ETV_Dates_Times, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_ETN_Dates_Times, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Times, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Enrollment_Limit, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Icon_1, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Icon_2, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Note, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Prereq, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Special_Message, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Alt_Major_Code, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Alt_Course_Number1, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Alt_Course_Number2, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_Alt_Section_Number, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Deleted, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Update_DateFROM  CREDIT_DATA_LOCCODE INNER JOIN CREDIT_DATA_COURSE ON CREDIT_DATA_LOCCODE.Loc_Code = CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Web_LocCode WHERE (CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Fiscal = N'078') AND (CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Term = N'10') AND (CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Status_Code <> 5) ORDER BY CREDIT_DATA_LOCCODE.Loc_Name, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Major_Code, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Course_Number1, CREDIT_DATA_COURSE.Section_Number
But when I run this query with the ORDER BY Clause in place against the SQL 5 tables Sheila dumps into I get this Error:

Can I Force SQL Server To Use The CONTAINS Operator First?

Jul 6, 2007

If I do the query below, SQL Server does a table scan (thousands of rows) for fn_TestCol(), then evaluates the CONTAINS clause:

SELECT col1, col2
FROM myTable
WHERE CONTAINS((col1, col2), 'foo and bar')
AND fn_TestCol(col1) = 0

How can I force it to evaluate CONTAINS clause, which returns only a few rows, first? The best I've come up with is this:

SELECT sub.col1, sub.col2
FROM (
SELECT col1, col2
FROM myTable
WHERE CONTAINS((col1, col2), 'foo and bar')
) sub
WHERE fn_TestCol(sub.col1) = 0

It's much faster, but still not as fast as if I could just use the first query, but force SQL Server to evaluate CONTAINS first.

SQLDescribeParam With Subselect: Invalid Parameter Number/Invalid Descriptor Index

Apr 21, 2008

Hello,

I've got the following query:

SELECT zA."ID" AS fA_A
, zA."TEXT" AS fA_B
, (
SELECT COUNT(zC."ID")
FROM Test."Booking" AS zC
) AS fA_E
FROM Test."Stack" AS zA
WHERE zA."ID" = ?

With this query I call:
- SQLPrepare -> SQL_SUCCESS=0
- SQLNumParams -> SQL_SUCCESS=0, pcpar = 1
- SQLDescribeParam( 1 ) -> SQL_ERROR=-1, [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid parameter number", "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid Descriptor Index"

Is there a problem with this calling sequence or this query? Or is this a problem of SQL Server?

Regards
Markus
