SQL Server 2005 Trial Version, Is It Compatible With Windows Vista
I tried to install SQL SERVER 2005 through SQLEVAL64 (IA64) on Window vista 2007, Intel core 2 duo processor. Like many other software (including my lexmark printer driver), SQL SERVER 2005 does not seem to be working. Anyone has any work around solution or had similar experience ?

Version 1.0 Vs. Version 2.0 Windows CA Templates And SQL Server 2005
I installed the Enterprise Windows CA service on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise system. I then requested a new certificate based on the Version 1.0 template called Computer from a member computer of the Active Directory domain. Using the Sql Server Configuration Manager, I was able to select the cert for encrypted connections. All works well. However, I need to be able to export that certificate and its private key. The template for Computer does not allow that. So, I duplicated the template and checked the "Allow private key to be exported" box on the Request Handling tab. I then requested a new certificate based on that Version 2.0 template. I got a new certificate, but SQL Server does not recognize it and refuses to load it if I manually insert its hash key into the registry. Any ideas on what the difference is between these certs and how to resolve the issue? Thanks!

Vista 64 Bit Machine With 64 Bit Version Of SQL Server Express 2005
Hi I have a PC running the 64 bit version of vista home premium (will be soon upgrading to ultimate). On the download page http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-au/express/bb410792.aspx for SQL Server Express under the section entitled SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 it mentions at the bottom of the page (referred by * & **) that there is a 64 bit install version available for both SQL Server & management Studio. However, under the section entitled SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2, there is no * or **. As far as I can tell, the Advanced services has Reporting Services as well. So, what I am wondering is, can I specifically download the 64 bit versions of SQL server express & management studio and as well, download just the reporting services part of Advanced Services? Kind regards Ross

SQL Server 2005 SP2 Windows Updates Install On Vista X64
I'm currently running Windows Vista x64 and SQL server 2005 on an HP laptop with a AMD Turion 64 processor. I've install all of the Windows Vista x64 update so far with no issues. However, I'm unable to install SQL server 2005 SP2 via Windows updates. I was able to successfully download the service pack with no issues and it is currenly on my machine ready to install. The system does take a check prior to the install process beginning to perform the install. I continuely get and "Error Code A91" when the install process is running. As a result the install does not complete successfully. When I used the "Get Help" option I get a list of possible error conditions but none of them seem be useful. I checked each one and none of them provide any help with a solution. I've successful installed SP2 on Vista x32 system with no problem. Is this a "Windows Update" issue? Thanks

Error Installing SQL Server 2005 Editions On Windows VISTA
There are numerous posts regarding this error when installing SQL Server 2005 on Windows Vista RTM thus I am starting a new thread in order to get resolution one way or another:SQL Server Setup failed to execute a command for server configuration. The error was [SQL Native Client]Windows user or group "USERNAMESQLServer2005MSFTEUser$USERNAME$MSSQLSERVER" not found. Check the name again... The error occurs when installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition, SQL Server Express SP1, SQL Server Express SP2 CTR (with or without the SP2 Toolkit package installed beforehand). The error occurs with or without UAC. The installation then fails. Please advise if you have any insights. SQL Server Express SP2 CTR was announced as a workable version for Vista... note that this is not the case.

Installing SQL Server 2005 Express On Windows Vista Business
Hello, Firstly, can someone confirm that this can be done. Because I am starting to wonder. I have downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express install, and attempted to install. Everything goes well. Computer scan indicates that everything is in place, but then when it goes to install the components it states that the following components failed: - SQL Native Client - SQL Server Database Services - Reporting Services - Workstation Components, Books Online (Successful items were SQL Setup Support Files, SQL VSS Writer, OWC11, SQL Server Backward-Compatibility Files, SQL Server Management Studio Express). For those Items that failed, I just get a message stating "Setup failed. Refer to Setup Log'. The setup log tells me little to nothing about why these components failed. I am also getting the following message part way through install "An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli.mis'". Does anyone know what this means? I downloaded the install from microsoft.com just a few days ago, so if this isn't "valid", then where do I get a valid one. I'm totally stuck. Have spent almost a day trawling documentation etc. to find why these have not installed, but cannot find any indication of why they wont install.. everything that needs to be in place is. Hoping someone has had similar issues and can help. Many Thanks in Advance.

Steps To Install 64 Bit Sql Server 2005 Standard Edition In Windows Vista 64 Ultimate
Hi I have just take my system back to the factory defaults after some unsuccessful attempts to install 64 bit and 32 bit sql server on my notebook. I am looking to use either 32 or 64 bit (I have disks for both) and I would like to get a step by step guide that will help me through the process. I tried an install of the 64 bit version, applied SP2, and it went smoothly but the report services browser didn't work. I tried to change some IIS settings but I didnt document what I changed so i was unable to undo the changes that i made when these didnt work. I tried several combinations of things but then decided that a clean install on a clean system was the best option. I need the SQL engine , reporting services, analysis services - and possibly integration services - i am not sure if i need notification services (dont know what it does anyway!) I also have vs2005 - should i install that first or after sql server 2005 SP2? Thanks Doug

Vista Compatible?
I wouldn't believe it if someone told me, but a compact edition database I updated on a Vista machine cannot be added to when used by Mobile 5, but the same thing works just fine on XP. I have base compact edition database I have created with mostly empty tables under XP. Through my desktop program, the user can select items he/she wishes to "copy" over to my base compact database. So in doing this "copy", I create new rows in the compact database within my desktop application. Currently I am just doing this to a location on the desktop machine hard drive and then manually copying over the database to the device (So I have taken talking through "RAPI" out of the equation). But whenever I try to add a new row to any of my tables in my database through my mobile application I get the error: {"QP is missing and it is required to evaluate default expressions. Ensure that sqlceqp30.dll is in the same directory as the storage engine (sqlcese30.dll)."} I have done it with multiple devices and get the same result. If I run the same code on an XP machine, everything works fine, but if the compact database was updated with Vista, I receive the error. I can take the database created using the Vista machine and look at it in Visual Studio and add new rows there without issue. The mobile device and desktops are running SQL Mobile 2005 Compact Edition and they show up in the Add/Remove Programs on all the machines. Does anyone have any ideas of why Vista would be creating a "incompatible" compact edition version? Any ideas for trying to debug this would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Version Of Component &&"****&&" (11773) Is Not Compatible With This Version Of The DataFlow.
I started this thread as the last attempt to sort the issue out. I have an SSIS package that loads data from a .csv file into my database. It works fine on my developer machine. I start it programmatically or from Management Studio or from Visual Studio, and it works. Then I deploy it to the MSDB database on the computer on which it will have its final place. There again I can start it from Management Studio or from Visual Studio (using the source file), and it works. But when I start it programmatically, it just fails telling me: Package Warnings: Package Errors: The version of component "****" (11773) is not compatible with this version of the DataFlow. Component "component "Derived Column" (13627)" could not be created and returned error code 0x80070005. Make sure that the component is registered correctly. The component is missing, not registered, not upgradeable, or missing required interfaces. The contact information for this component is "Flat File Source;Microsoft Corporation;Microsoft SqlServer v9; (C) 2005 Microsoft Corporation; All Rights Reserved; http://www.microsoft.com/sql/support;1". component "Agreement File" (11773) failed validation and returned error code 0xC0048021. One or more component failed validation. There were errors during task validation. Maybe the source of the problem is that this machine is a 64-bit one, while the developer machine is 32-bit one. But why does the package run fine when I start it from Management Studio? Any help would be appreciated. FMikee

Vista SQL 2005 SP2 Client To Windows XP SQL 2005 (non-sp2) Workstation. (Take 2 W/ Workaround)
This issue has not been "resolved" as I can tell. But there is a workaround w/o using sql authentication (hate sql authentication) http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1528018&SiteID=1 I found out that it doesnt matter which combination you use for the server as long as the client is Vista... If you are using a windows account, lets say "jondoe" on your vista box acting as a sql management studio client to a sql server on an xp or w2k3 box using windows authentication.... IT WILL work if both the vista box and the xp/w2k3 box BOTH have "jondoe" accounts, and both "jondoe" account passwords are the same!!! SOOOooo.... Apparently when vista runs the program under jondoe (when you launch the shortcut) it runs it under that context (no-duh) but EVEN if you establish a network connection (using net use) beforehand with alternate credentials (lets say on the xp/w2k3 box the user is jonsmith) and then use sql management studio you are assuming that it will just use those trusted credentials.... you are wrong... it wont anymore in vista by default. WTF? Why? because apparently sql management studio 2005 no longer is allowed to retrieve stored credentials to impersonate jonsmith when connecting to the xp/w2k3 box.... this is where the infamous "no user is associated with this trusted connection". I also got this error with Visual Studio 2005 Web Express Edition... hmmm... a correlation i see? SOOOoooo... Workaround 1 (more secure): Create the windows account "jonsmith" on your vista box, set the password to the same exact password for the server's user account. then run the sql management studio application under the jonsmith account using "runas". Result: it works just as it supposed to... using windows authentication. Workaround 2 (less secure): Create the account "jondoe" on the xp/w2k3 box, set the password to the same exact password for the server's user account. then run the sql management studio application under the jonsmith account using "runas". Result: it works just as it supposed to... using windows authentication. Workaround 3: Use sql authentication. works like a charm but not as secure as 1 and 2. FYI: these apply to workgroup connections. domain computers are exempt cause security is handled by domain controllers. I think there must be a security setting (registry option) that would allow this process to work w/o the workaround, but I have yet to figure it out... I'm like a pitbull sniffing around for clues and the only leads i have is that its vista SSPI and that if there is an option, it would be in local security policy AND/OR undocumented registry option. Note: I hate workarounds unless there is a clear cut reason why we have to do it this way. Either because there was a design oops or security consideration when accounts are hijacked.... either way anyone from Microsoft have an explanation of this? Oh... firewall enabled/disabled doesnt matter, all systems patched up the yinyang and what nots do not change the end result. All I did was create matching accounts on both ends (using either workaround 1 or 2) and it worked just fine. SOOOOoooo... my question is..... why can't SQLM2K5 MS and VSWD2K5 express grab the existing alternate credentials that i've established (through net use) and run with the ball? BTW: I've tried using that "Alert Me" option below. Doesn't work. page takes a nose dive on the POST.

Upgrade Trial Version
A client recently upgraded their 120-Day trial version of SQL Server 2000, by entering in their license key. The upgrade appeared to work correctly. Afterwards, they tried to apply SQL2K SP1, and were given the error message that they could not apply a service pack to a Trial version of the software. They then tried to re-enter the license key, whereupon they were told that the server was already licensed (i.e., no longer a trial version). Does anyone know how to get through this. Thanks Jason

Replication With Trial Version
Hi all. Any assistance regarding this would be greatly appreciated. We are currently in the process of setting up replication, and I need to do some testing prior to putting this into production. I would like to test the replication using SQL Server 2005 Standard edition as this is the version we will be implementing on our servers. My question is this - is there a trial version of the Standard Edition as my understanding is that the trial version that can be downloaded from Microsoft's website is the Enterprise Edition. If it is the enterprise edition, I am concerned that my tests will not be a true reflection of our proposed systems. Does anyone know where I can obtain the Standard Edition trial version? Many thanks.

I then tried to reinstall SCE but it failed and tells me to do an unintall which I tried - partially successful. Now when I try to reintall SCE it tells me it is already installed on the domain and will not go any further. How do I get the trial version unintstalled from the domain so I can install the proper version. Domain is a W2K. Thanks In advance for any help.

SSRS 2005 On Windows Vista
Hello, I am deploying SSRS 2005 on Windows Vista and was wondering if there was a way to automate the following three tasks so that my end-users would not have to do them? Add a URL to the Trusted Sites for the current computer name? Change the Security Level setting for User Authentication for the Trusted Site added in step #1 to be automatic logon with current username and password? Change the properties on IE7 to run with Administrative privileges? I think, but am not sure that some of these can be done with VBScript? If these can't be automated, then end-users of my application will have to go through these 3 steps manually in order to view the SSRS reports that I have written without being prompted to log in, or encountering error messaged due to insufficient privileges. Thanks in advance! Tim

Vista SQL 2005 SP2 Client To Windows XP SQL 2005 (non-sp2) Workstation.
I'm trying to use SQL Management Studio to connect from a Vista SQL 2005 client w/ SP2 over to a Windows XP workstation running SQL server developer edition (non-sp2) using windows authentication. I'm already preauthenticated by network shares to the xp workstation. This worked just fine in windows xp but stop working in vista. After searching around, i found out that vista handles trusted authentication differently than windows xp due to changes in the SSPI. Logging in as sql authentication works fine. Logging in as windows authentication does not. UPDATE: I found out that two workstations running vista and sql 2005 sp2 cannot connect to each other using windows trusted authentication!!! What the heck? UPDATE: I found out that my IIS 7.0 using ASP.NET and connecting to SQL 2005 (non sp2) on a Windows 2003 server (SP1) WILL connect to the database using trusted authentication... apparently IIS can access the credentials and pass them to the sql 2005 box just fine. My Sql 2K5 SP2 tools cannot. I'm forced to use SQL authentication to the box. Same thing applies with a Windows XP SP2 box running SQL 2005 (non sp2). ADO Upgraded To 2.1 When Loading SQL 7.0 Trial Version.
Could someone let me know if there is a way to restore ADO 2.0 back to my machine after the install routine of SQL 7.0 upgraded it to 2.1? I have tried uninstalling SQL 7.0, reinstalling ADO 2.0, manually unregistring and removing ADO files and then reinstalling ADO 2.0. So far no luck. Help!

Legitimising SQL Server7 Trial Version
Hi, The company finally bought a legitimate copy of SQL Server 7. There was nothing special on my trial version, so I chose the uninstall option from the start menu (it was on my Win95 PC). It removed the files, but didn't uninstall the registry bits though! When trying to install the proper version of SQL 7 it has detected the other version, but no files & won't let me install the legitimate version. Can anyone tell me how to get around this to install the new version? Thanks Steve

Trial Upgrade To Purchased Version
We started out with the trial version of sql2005 and we later purchased the full standard version I belive, I just realized our trial is going to expire which we have data we are using on it. Is it possible to enter our liscense number in the trial to continue using or do I have to detach all of the databases and install the new sql version and then reattach all of the databases and setup any maintence plans again.
