SSIS ERROR : Overflowed The Disk I/O Buffer, DTS_E_PRIMEOUTPUTFAILED

Hi,
I get folllwing error while SSIS package is executing and uploading Data from Flat Files to SQL Server 2005. This Error goes away when I change my SSIS Package Connection Manager to read UNICODE data files.
Is there any smart way to figure out which flat files have UniCode Data  in the and which is not a Unicode data file.

Thanks,
Vinod

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_THREADFAILED And DTS_E_PRIMEOUTPUTFAILED.
Hi

I have a SSIS package which extracts data from a progress database (Version 10) and writes to a SQL table. I use a data reader to extract the progress data from the source however I have a problem.

When I try to extract one extra field (a text field of 2000 characters) into my SSIS routines I get the following error message. I have supressed this before on other routines using the fetch array size on the odbc connection however I cant resolve the problem with this field.

I know progress is a tricky data source however does anyone have any thoughts on whether this is a limitation on the odbc drivers or something which I can handle in SSIS i.e. reduce the input of rows, tweak buffer size? If so does anyone have any suggestions on settings to try - currently they are the default.

The Error Message :-

Overflow The Disk I/O Buffer
Hello,

I am getting "overflow the disk I/O buffer" in my SSIS, and what's weird is that when I construct the same SSIS in a new package, it works perfectly.  I almost want to believe that it could be a bug.  Some days when I import the files, it works fine, but some days it errors out with this error on the last column.  Is there some setting with CR/LF or LF that I have to pay attention to avoid this type of random error?

Thanks for your help!

Out Of Memory Error (bUFFER SWAPPING )- SSIS
HI ,

Need some quick fix Help

I have been
trying to load data from AS400 to DB2 (windows) using ADO.NET connection in
Data reader source and OLEDB Destination (IBM Oledb provider )

The files, I€™m trying to load, have
number of rows more then 15 million.

On execution of the package I get
Out of Memory Error (see below)

My Destination Box is 4GB+ RAM and 4

There seems to be some Buffer and
Swapping related issue which I€™m not able to figure out. It says that System is
unable to allocate memory

Please help me on the same.

Error: The Buffer Manager Failed To Create A New Buffer Type
Hi

I have a master package that executes a series of sub packages run from a SQL Agent job. One of those sub packages has been stable for a week, running at least once per day, but it just failed despite having been run once already today with the same set of input data.

There were a series of errors showing in the event log for the Execute Package Task starting with "Buffer Type 15 had a size of 0 bytes.", then "The buffer manager failed to create a new buffer type.", then "The Data Flow task cannot register a buffer type. The type had 32 columns and was for execution tree 3.", then "The layout failed validation." and finally "Error 0xC0012050 while loading package file "C:[Package].dtsx". Package failed validation from the ExecutePackage task. The package cannot run.".

SQLIS.com reports the constant for the error code as DTS_E_REMOTEPACKAGEVALIDATION ( http://wiki.sqlis.com/default.aspx/SQLISWiki/0xC0012050.html ).

I then ran the package on my dev machine in BIDS and it worked fine, so I re-ran the job on the server and this time that package executed ok, but another one fell over but did not put anything in the event log.

Does any one have any idea what happened?

TIA . . . Ed

DTS_E_PRIMEOUTPUTFAILED
I'm attempting to import a dbf file into a SQL server staging table.  The following error is being reported:

[DTS.Pipeline] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRIMEOUTPUTFAILED.  The PrimeOutput method on component "DBF File" (1) returned error code 0x80040E21.  The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.

Data provider is Jet 4.0.  Is this just a corrupt file?  Or does this indicate something else?  The package has run successfully on all previous occasions.  Thanks in advance.

SSIS Buffer Problem - Lookup Component
Hi,

 I am facing a problem with Lookup component in SSIS. I need to lookup from a transaction table for getting some info, But when im trying to implement the same, the Pre-Execute step itself got failed saying like,
€œ[DTS.Pipeline] Information: The buffer manager failed a memory allocation call for 524264 bytes, but was unable to swap out any buffers to relieve memory pressure. 9467 buffers were considered and 5956 were locked. Either not enough memory is available to the pipeline because not enough are installed, other processes were using it, or too many buffers are locked.
[Tracer [19717]] Error: A buffer could not be locked. The system is out of memory or the buffer manager has reached its quota.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "Tracer" (19717) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC020204B.€?
Component Tracer is the Look up. Tracer is having around 6.5 mil records. Is there any way to allocate more buffers thru buffer manager? Or is there any alternative to solve this problem? FYI, the hard disk free space is more than 250 GB.
Thanks in advance.

How To Flush Data Stored In SSIS Buffer
Hi,

I am working on my own data flow source component. Here is a fragment of this component code:

public override void PrimeOutput(int outputs, int[] outputIDs, PipelineBuffer[] buffers) {     PipelineBuffer selectedBuffer = buffers[0];     string message;      while ((message = GetMessage()) != null)     {         selectedBuffer.AddRow();         selectedBuffer.SetString(0, message);          // how to flush data here?     }      selectedBuffer.SetEndOfRowset(); }  private string GetMessage() {     // we are retrieving some message here, this is a long-term process }

When a new row is added by this component to the buffer then this row is not immediately available to the next component in data flow. It is possible to configure SSIS in that way that each row is immediately sent to the next data flow component? If no also please inform me about that.

Thanks,
Rafal

SSIS Custom Component, Output Buffer Problem
Hi Guys,

I created a SSIS custom component, transformation (Asynchronous) with one Input collection and 2 output collections.

The SSIS Package which includes the Component I created works well in the Business Intelligence Studio, but when the same Package is run in the 'Execute Package utility' It fails to run. ( when you Double click on the dtsx file)

The cause of the failiure is

public override void PrimeOutput(int outputs, int[] outputIDs, PipelineBuffer[] buffers)

method receives only one output buffer when executed using the 'Execute Package Utility'  {  outputs = 1 , buffer.Length = 1 }  ( when executed in the BI studio, the method receives parameters of both the output buffers that I expect {  outputs = 2 , buffer.Length = 2 }      )

The property ComponentMetaData.OutputCollection.Count = 2  as well. Yet the PrimeOutput method provides only 1 buffer.

The Validation Succeeds on both instances, which I assume means that Meta Data is Provided Properly.

What would be the reason for the same pakage to run in 2 different ways like this,

What might I have missed out to do,   to make the package run in different ways on 'Business Intelligence Studio' and 'Execute Package Utility'

Thanks a lot

Below are some of the lines from the ProvideComonentProperties Method which deals with the output Collection, Isn't this sufficient for the PrimeOutput to provide 2 output buffers?

ProvideComponentProperties()

public override void ProvideComponentProperties()
        {

            RemoveAllInputsOutputsAndCustomProperties();
            base.RemoveAllInputsOutputsAndCustomProperties();
            base.ProvideComponentProperties();

            //other function calls

            IDTSOutput90 output1 = ComponentMetaData.OutputCollection[0];
            output1.Name = "Output1";
            output1.Description = ".......................";
            extracted.SynchronousInputID =0;

            IDTSOutput90 output2 = ComponentMetaData.OutputCollection.New();
            output2.Name = "Output2";
            output2.Description = "..........................";
            output2.SynchronousInputID = 0;

            //other function calls

SSIS Failure - Can Not Add A Row To The Data Flow Task Buffer
I have a relatively simple SSIS package that I'm building for a data mining process.  The package starts with an OLE DB data source, passes the results of a SQL Command (query) along to a conversion step, which then gets sent to a Term Lookup task.  The Term Lookup then writes the result to an OLE DB Data Destination.  Pretty simple.  The OLE DB data source query returns about 80,000 rows if you run it through SQL WB.  The SSIS editor shows 9,557 rows make it out of the source, and into the conversion step, 9,557 make it out of the conversion and into the lookup, and about 60,000 rows make it out of the lookup and are written to the results table.  Then the package fails with the following errors listed on the progress screen.  I was assuming that the 9,557 was some type of batching that was occurring in the process, but now I'm not so sure.

Thoughts?

I have put any code in the else part as i am just trying to run the task as of now and later put the functionality in it.

Please let me know if i have missed something. Thanks in advance.

Warning - Kept Reference To Buffer - What Can Be Done About These Buffer Warnings?
Good day everyone,

I'm experiencing a completely random warning from any given row count component within any given data flow task. It occurs sporadically. Whilst distracting, I don't see any adverse effects to the data after the packages complete. Can someone weigh in on this warning and let me know if it is indeed benign or what I maybe able to do to fix it?

Here's the warning:

"A call to the ProcessInput method for input 75997 on component "CNT Rows sent for STG table" (75995) unexpectedly kept a reference to the buffer it was passed. The refcount on that buffer was 4 before the call, and 5 after the call returned."

Thanks,

Error 845: Buffer Latch Timeout
More of an FYI in case anyone has run into this problem...We were running into the infamous "timeout on buffer latch type 3" error andwas caused by the autogrow in tempdb. Apparently when SQL Server is gettinghit pretty hard and tempdb is taking a timeout to auto-grow, SQL servercraps its pants and times-out. This combined with the fact that tempdbshrinks down to its last set size after a restart, you'll hit this errorpretty regularly after a SQL Server bounce. (If tempdb auto-grow from a set1GB to 10GB, after the restart tempdb will be 1GB again. - Just how gay isthat?) Anyway, we just manually set tempdb to a respectable level to resolvethe problem.

I did all the Transformation column mapping in DTS package, but when i try to run the DTS package, it comes with Error

Data for the Source column2("membernote") is too large for the specifed buffer size

I don't know why, even though the Column datatype for Membernote is Text.

Temp Buffer Error Allocating ######## Bytes
Hi Guys,
i've found many threds with SSIS buffer errors but non of them seems to work, or have a good solution. i'l explain the story short.

i've got a DB server running on Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise with 10GB RAM 20GB Virtual memory with same spec another machine for the web server.

both machines have "Lock Memory in memory" group policy enabled for

Network Service
System
DomainSQLServiceAccount (in DB server)
and in the DB memory "awe allocation" is also enabled.
both servers have /PAE /3GB switches enabled in boot.ini file

problem: i run all my SSIS packages in the web server through IIS. so the processes are devided between DB and web server. i.e SSIS service is also running in web server.

when i run packages under load (transforming - 200,000 records) i get buffer allocation errors.

A buffer failed while allocating 10485760 bytes.
Error Code          = -1073450990
all packages i run i have set the default buffer temp to my web servers e: emp (got 260GB space left). and defaultbuffer size is 10mb with 10,000 defaultbuffermaxrows.

funny this is when it hit 8.33GB (approx 875 files) i get the above error message. it always seems to give me errors after 8.33GB.

Note: all packages run in IIS (w3wp.exe). i'm configuring my new production boxes. the old production with similar envirnment (less speed) work with the same data and packages fine under load.

new production machine got more memory than the old machine but i get memory error (buffer). it doesn't even use up all available physical memory, only about 3gb (max), then start buffering to disk.

any help would be greately appreciated.

i also got

The system reports 31 percent memory load. There are 10734981120 bytes of physical memory with 7326126080 bytes free. There are 3221094400 bytes of virtual memory with 283840512 bytes free. The paging file has 12661686272 bytes with 9633767424 bytes free.Error Code          = -1073450991
this was before i increased virtual memory to 20gb(from 4gb).

Any ideas i can try out?

Memory Fills Up Then A Buffer Error Is Generated.
I have SSIS sp2 running on a Win2003 64bit Server with 4processors and 16GB of ram.  I am trying to load 1 billion rows of data into 10 tables.  The source data is found in 12 different 50GB fixed width flat files stored on 2 different files servers.  The destination is 10 different tables in a single SQL Server 2000 database which has 1TB of space allocated to it.  I use the MS SQL OLE DB connection for each destination table.

The SSIS package is pretty straight forward.  Everything takes place in 1 data flow.  The 12 sources each flow through 12 different Row Count Transformations into a single Union All Transformation.  From the Union All transformation the data goes into another Row Count Transformation then into a Conditional Split Tranformation.  The data is split into 10 streams base on the last digit of one of the ID fields in the data.  The 10 streams are fed to the 10 destination tables.

Every time I run the package (Start without Debugging) the avaible physical memory goes from around 15GB to 0 in about 2 minutes.  The % comitted bytes in use goes from 5% to 100% in about 5 minutes.  Once at 100% it will stay there for around 5 minutes before it will finally give me the following error message:

The system reports 98 percent memory load. There are 17178939392 bytes of physical memory with 189382656 bytes free. There are 8796092891136 bytes of virtual memory with 8742748930048 bytes free. The paging file has 54388109312 bytes with 16056320 bytes free.

This message is followed by a bunch of other messages:

The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRIMEOUTPUTFAILED.  The PrimeOutput method on component "Dr 2" (663) returned error code 0xC02020C4.  The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.

The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_THREADFAILED.  Thread "SourceThread2" has exited with error code 0xC0047038.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the thread has exited.

I have tried adjusting the Engine threads down from 5 to 4 to 2.  I have tried adjusting the FastLoadMaxInsertCommitSize from 1000000 to 100000 to 1000 (Destinations are tablocked and Check Constraints).  I have tried moving the DefaultBufferMax up to 16500 and down to 2000.

Nothing works.  The package fails everytime within 20 minutes of its start.

I would prefer not to have to rewrite the package and process each file sequentially as that would take forever.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Slowness In SSIS Package And The Importance Of Disk Maintenance
During testing a package repetatively that deletes/inserts into several tables, over the course of several days, my package, which took 45 minutes to load 1700 XML files, began to take over 6 hours.  Turns out it was an I/O bottleneck, and the Avg Disk Queue Length was around 200 and I was incurring many PAGEIOLATCH_EX.  My devl machine uses a single local disk, no raid, so I had no options there, but I ran the maintenance wizard to recreate indexes/statistics and defraged the hard drive, and regained my original 45 minutes time.  I guess I'll have to put a maintenance plan together to do this nightly.

Invalid Buffer Error (Hotfix 815494) And ADO.NET And Framework 1.0
Hi,FYI,We were able to fix a problem we had with SQLServer after Hotfix815495 was installed.Our application, written in VB.NET, with ADO.NET under .NET framework1.0, would generate an SQL exception of "General network error" or "Asevere error occured on the current command. The Results, if any,should be discarded". At the same time this error would occur in theapplication, an exception would occur in SQL Server and the messagewould be "Invalid buffer".Our application would not generate the exception if run under .NETframework 1.1, but we would have a bunch of other problems withCrystal Reports.The error would occur with inserts on that specific table that had afield of type "Text". A thorough investigation revealed that theAdapters created by the VS.NET Code Generators (dragging og anSQLadapter Icon onto a Web Page or a Data Access Component) would begenerated with code that generate that error.The Update Command as well as the Insert Command Parameters wouldhave that field defined as a System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar(2147483647)instead of System.Data.SqlDbType.Text. The Changing to"System.Data.SqlDbType.Text" fixed the problem WITHOUT having tomigrate to the .NET Framework 1.1.RegardsJFGPS. The Knowledge base from Microsoft as well as their MSDN site aretotally silent on that topic... If anybody from Microsoft reads this,Please update your site appropriately.

SQL Error: 16931 (There Are No Rows In The Current Fetch Buffer)

Hi,

I am having problem with the CRecorset::Update() function.
I have declared a CRecordset object in client Application in VC++6.0.
I open the recordset in dynamic mode.
Before opening the recordset , I have obtained the UPDLOCK on the base table.( Obviously this UPDLOCK is in transaction).
When I try to call CRecordset::Update() it gives me exception 16931(There are no rows in the current fetch buffer).
I have define a clustered index on this table.
But I still get the exception 16931 on calling CRecorset::Update().

Any help is much appreciated.

Conversion Failed Because The Data Value Overflowed The Specified Type
Hi All,

I am facing very weird issue...

When i am running package thru SQL server job and getting follwing error:

SIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.  An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "Invalid character value for cast specification".  An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "Invalid character value for cast specification".
There was an error with input column "Billing_date" (2568) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (979). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_INDUCEDTRANSFORMFAILUREONERROR.  The "input "OLE DB Destination Input" (979)" failed because error code 0xC020907A occurred, and the error row disposition on "input "OLE DB Destination Input" (979)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PROCESSINPUTFAILED.  The ProcessInput method on component "billing_table" (966) failed with error code 0xC0209029. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_THREADFAILED.  Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0209029.

In the package, i am selecting data from SQL Server database into query(billing_table) and inserting data using destination task into SQL server table(stg_billing_table). Both table has same data type datetime for Billing_date.

Here are couple of points:

1) When i am trying to execute same insert statement thru SQL Server editor, it is running successfully.

INSERT INTO stg_billing_table (Billing_date)
SELECT Billing_date FROM stg_billing_table;

2) When I am running package from Solution explorer then also it works fine.

Issue only comes when i try to run package thru SQL server job. one point, There are lot of other task running parallel to this package when we run thru JOB.

One more thing which i have observed that when i tried to see input transformation datatype for same column in package, it is DT_DATABASETIMESTAMP. Well i am not able to understand that it may be potential issue because if it is related to DT_DATABASETIMESTAMP to date time conversion then we should have faced this issue while running thru solution IDE.

Issue looks related to database level buffer/ Memory overflow etc. to me. Can somebody help me understanding the issue?

Thanks.

Questions:

- Do you have an idea of what differs between SQL2000 and SQL2005 in this kind of situation?
- Why is this working for 2000 and not 2005?
- Why the error message says "output column "ID" (32) on output "OLE DB Source Output" (11). ". Shouldn't it be something like "output column "ID" (32) on input "ID" (11). " (with the second ID column for the SQL DB).
- May be the error comes from my connections parameters, one parameter which doesn't exists in SQL2000?

Thanks,

Synchronization Error:The Buffer Pool Is Too Small Or There Are Too Many Open Cursors.
Hello:

I tried to synchronize the SQL 2000 database with the SQL mobile server on PDA with SQL server management studio from SQL 2005. I got the error as €œThe buffer pool is too small or there are too many open cursors. HRESULT 0x80004005 (25101) €?.  The SQL database file size is 120MB.

 I create the .sdf file on PDA with the following C# code:

string connString = "Data Source='Test.sdf'; max database size = 400; max buffer size = 10000;";
SqlCeEngine engine = new SqlCeEngine(connString);
engine.CreateDatabase();

I think the 400MB max database size and 10000KB max buffer size are big enough to hold that SQL database data and I have already successfully synchronized my PDA with another smaller SQL server database file. I have been kept trying and searching this for couple of days and still can not figure it out.

Moreover, the synchronization always stops at the same table.

Please help and a lot of thanks in advance.

HELP!!! - Internal Error. Buffer Provided To Read Column Value Is Too Small.
This is the situation... I have a table PST_AVM partitioned by SRC_SYS_ID. It has data in three of the partition and constraints and index on it... Now, this is what I do that causes SQL Server generated and error. Here are the steps:

1. Drop all constraints and indexes on PST_AVM
2. Truncate partition for a given SRC_SYS_ID within PST_AVM table.
3. Load data for the same SRC_SYS_ID into PST_AVM

At this point the table gets corrupted. I can do the following:

select src_sys_id, count(*) from pst_avm
group by src_sys_id
I get the right results but I run a query with a single column like:

select vendor from pst_avm
I get rows back but the result set is not column 'vendor' is the data in the column left of 'vendor'. Finally, when I do a Select * then I get the this error back:

Msg 682, Level 22, State 146, Line 1
Internal error. Buffer provided to read column value is too small. Run DBCC CHECKDB to check for any corruption.
When I run DBCC CHECKDB, I get a bunch of these errors:

Msg 2537, Level 16, State 21, Line 1
Table error: object ID 1204199340, index ID 0, partition ID 72057594231128064, alloc unit ID 72057594217234432 (type In-row data), page (1:256753), row 4. The record check (off-row data retrieval) failed. The values are 0 and 0.

DTS Error: Data For Source Column 2 (‘column_name) Is Too Large For The Specified Buffer Size.
Hi,

I’m attempting to use DTS to import data from a Memo field in MS Access (Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider) into a SQL Server nvarchar(4000) field.  Unfortunately, I’m getting the following error message:

Error at Source for Row number 30. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.
Data for source column 2 (‘Html’) is too large for the specified buffer size.

I also get this error message when attempting to import the same data from Excel.

Per the MS Knowledgebase article located at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281517, I changed the registry property indicated to 0.  This modification did not help.

Per suggestions in other SQL Server forums, I moved the offending row from row number 30 to row number 1.  This change only resulted in the same error message, but with the row number indicated as “Row number 1â€?.  (Incidentally, the data in this field is greater than 255 characters in every row, so the cause described in the Knowledgebase article doesn’t seem to be my problem).

You might also like to know that the data in the Access table was exported into this table from a SQL Server nvarchar(4000) field.

Does anybody know what might trigger this error message other than the data being less than 255 characters in the first eight rows (as described in the KB article)?

I’ve hit a brick wall, so I’d appreciate any insight.Thanks in advance!

Error: 17805, Severity: 20, State: 3 Invalid Buffer Received From Client.
Howdy Folks,
Our site has been experiencing this issue for a couple of months now.. Hopefully someone else can assist, as I’ve got to a point where I think issue lies within the application or a Microsoft bug. Web searches have reveled a number installations that have also had this error but its has not revealed an actual fix.

I understand this error code basically means data being returned to the client is getting either corrupted or the data is too large to fit into the buffer on the client side. Client in our case is the terminal server, here after called a application server

As the user base has increased form 5 to 20, I have noticed that the issue is occurring more frequently in comparison to when the company first started using the application /database. Its just about daily now...

The db server also has 8 other db's residing on it - but they are all less than 300 meg.

The attached PowerPoint doc has the trace info & the surrounding code for each process that has suffered a buffer error over a period of a week.

DB Server Environment: Win2000 SP4, SQL2000 SP3a, MDAC 2.7 SP1 refresh.
Application Environment: Written In house in VB.NET Framework 1.1 – setup as a published app on a terminal server – running windows 2000 SP4

Common features of the issue, that have been omitted from trace output for visibility reasons are:
-Involves 1 particular DB (thats accessed by VB app) & its developement db
-All connections are coming from 1 application server
-Issue does not relate to any particular site connecting to the application server using this application

I have reviewed & fixed several potential server side causes but this error still is occuring with in the environment:

MDAC versions must be common on application & server:
- Removed from equation by updating MDAC version on App server to be the same as DB Server: 2.7 SP1 Refresh

Network related
- Considered unlikely; we are also not experiencing network card errors on either server; also all db's would be experiencing connectivity errors.

Which leaves us with Application related options to review:
- Compilation error of application
- App parameter definitions to stored procedures are the correct data type
- Ensure values being passed do not exceed 4000 characters as that has also been known to create this error message
- I've asked the developer to review MS KB 827366 article, as it may be a valid test
- In regard to MSKB 832977 - I am not using pssdiag & have a later version of the MS Analyzer. But what I thought was interesting, is the statement that this problem occurs more frequently when an application submits a large remote procedure call (RPC) input buffer, especially when the RPC input buffer is greater than or equal to 8 KB. However, this problem may occur even if the input buffer is less than 4 KB
- A is using datatypes varchar & char - not nvarchar & nhar

Any assistance with this issue would be appreicated as server performance is being effected - these processes hang around for 1 - 5 mins before terminating (refer duration times in the powerpoint traces)

Thanks In advance

Suze.

SQL 2005 Mobile Edition Error: The Buffer Pool Is Too Small Or There Are Too Many Open Cursors.
I am working with merge replication.  The db server is running Windows 2003 Server Std x64 with SQL 2005 Std x64.  The IIS server is running Windows 2003 Server Stx x86.  The clients are Windows Mobile 5.0 running SQL 2005 Mobile.

I have previously been able to get the test client to initialize a subscription to the publication.  I made some changes recently and added about 7 tables, bringing the total articles to 104.  Some of the articles have unpublished columns, which means they are using vertical filtering as well.  This publication is also using parameterized filters.  During publication creation, there are several warnings that "Warning: column 'rowguid' already exists in the vertical partition".

The snapshot agent runs without any errors.  When the client attempts to initialize, I get the error "The buffer pool is too small or there are too many open cursors."

My question is 2 part.  First, what is causing this error, and second, how can it be resolved?

Should The Quorum Disk Be A Physical Disk Or Majority Node Set?
Hello,

   I am trying to setup a test cluster and am having an issue. When I try to create the resource of a physical disk it takes both the drive e: and drive q: and doesn't seperate them into two physical disks as resources. This means when I try to associate the quorum disk it links the to physcial disk resource of drive e and q. Then when I try to install SQL2k5 I get the warning about installing SQL on the quorum disk. Am I missing something? Is there a way to seperate e and q onto two physical disk resources so I can specifically associate the quorum to q and the sql to e or should I be setting the quorum disk to a majority node set? Thanks in advance.

John

Disk Or Network Error
HiI have written an application in VB through which I can convert DBASEIV database to MS SQL Server database. Also, the application providesdatabase manipulation features to the user like addition, deletion etcof records.I am using OPENROWSET for conversion purposes. Also the server is MSSQL Server 2000.Now this application workks fine when I have installed the instance ofMS SQL Server on my local machine. It converts the database and storesit on the server perfectly and there are no isues.However, when I try to use the application to connect with MS SQLServer on another machine, there are a few problems. I connect to theother MS SQL Server on other machine through named pipes. Myapplication successfully accesses the database and allows user tomodify it according to his needs.For this I created the user account of that user on the machine.But when I try to convert the database, I get the following errormessage:[Microsoft ODBC Dbase driver]Disk or Network ErrorHere is the line in VB code which is causing all the trouble:con.Execute "select * into " & UCase(X) & " fromOPENROWSET('MSDASQL','Driver={Microsoft dBASE Driver(*.dbf)};DEFAULTDIR=" & BaseData & ";SourceType=DBF','select * from " &UCase(X) & "')"Here, X is the dbf file name, BaseData is the path name of file.I gave the user full rights but i am still getting this error message.Now, what am I doing wrong here?Regards,Shwetabh

Disk Crash Of Disk That Contains The Paging File.
Hello,

this is my configuration :

1) 3 disks in RAID5 that hold the SQL data
2) 1 disk in RAID0 that holds the only paging file.

What will happen to the SQL data (DB) when the disk that holds the paging file crashes?

Kindest regards,

SQL Server Error Log Fills Disk
Hello,

I have the following problem:

I'am running SQL Server 2005 Express Advanced Services on a Windows 2003 Server in a hosted Environment. Some times SQL Server is beginning writing entries into C:ProgrammeMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLLOGERRORLOG until the disk is full.. After that, I have to delete the error log file (some GB of size), restart the server and everything is running fine until the log file runs amok again.

I have installed SQL Server Management Studio.

With SQL server 2005 Standard I can configure or disable Error logging in the Management Studio. But with the Express Edition it seems that is not possible.

What I want to do is (maybe with system stored procedures)

limit number of error log files by cycling it, e.g. 5 files and delete the old ones
limit the size of one log file. e.g. 100 MB

Is there an option to configure this in the Express edition of SQL Server 2005?

Thanks in advance

Regards

How Do I Write Multiple Pipeline Buffer To Multiple Targets Based On A Calculated Value In The Pipeline Buffer
The scenario is as follows: I have a source with many rows. Each row has a column called max_qty_value. I need to perform a calculation using another column called qty. This calculation is something similar to dividing qty/(ceiling) max_qty_value. Once I have that number I need to write an additional duplicate row for each value from the prior calculation performed. For example, 15/4 = 4. I need to write 4 rows to the same target table as in line information for a purchase order.

The multicast transform appears to only support fixed and/or predetermined outputs. How do I design this logic in SSIS to write out dynamic number of rows to a target table.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

John
