SSRS Report Rendering Different In VS2005 And In Report Viewer Via URL Access

Hello,
I'm using Reporting Services to render a text (stored in sql as varchar(max)). The text is all plain text, with some lines having trailing spaces.

Source text file i've imported to SQL via SSIS:
CLIENT: 10055
                               STATEMENT 2007
DATE:1002993
THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT
COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3
TRY THIS

*Note the trailing spaces on the line before 'STATEMENT 2007'.

I've designed a report using the Report Project in VS2005 to retrieve this text via a stored procedure. When I test the report using the 'Preview' tab in the IDE, it looks good
CLIENT: 10055
                               STATEMENT 2007
DATE:1002993
THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT
COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3
TRY THIS

But when I deploy the report and run it using URL Access:

CLIENT: 10055
STATEMENT 2007
DATE:1002993

THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT

COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3
TRY THIS

On all lines with trailing spaces, they (the trailing spaces) have been removed. This is affecting my formatting of some reports and statements. We really want to use the report viewer as it has built in paging, print and export capabilities.

Why does it look okay in VS2005 but different in Report Viewer via URL Access and Report Manager?

Note: When I export as PDF, it looks okay.

The stored procedure I use to return the data is a CLR Hosted assembly as below:

Code Snippet
Partial Public Class StoredProcedures
<Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure()> _

Public Shared Sub GetPagedDocument(ByVal inText As SqlString)
Dim dr As SqlDataReader
Dim row As New SqlDataRecord(New SqlMetaData("RowText", SqlDbType.Text))
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("select cast(doc as varchar(max)) as 'DOCTEXT' from testdoc WHERE id='" + inText + "'")
Dim cn As New SqlConnection("context connection=true")
cn.Open()
cmd.Connection = cn
SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsStart(row) 'initialise the resultset to be returned
dr = cmd.ExecuteReader
'If no records in result set, return.
If Not dr.HasRows Then

row.SetString(0, "There is no document to display or you do not have permission to view the document.")
SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsRow(row)
SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsEnd()
' SqlContext.Pipe.Send("There is no document to display.")
Return
End If
'Read rows in the result set
dr.Read()

'Get the entire text
Dim docText As String = dr.Item("DOCTEXT")
'debug
row.SetString(0, docText)
SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsRow(row)
SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsEnd()
Return
'end debug

End Sub
End Class

Any help will be appreciated.

Setting The Report Dataset Parameter In Report Viewer VS2008/SSRS

1- I have a dataset with a SQL query statement that has a single parameter.
2- The dataset (and associated table adapter) are used in a local SQL Server report
3- The report is published using a web form and a Microsoft Report Viewer control
2- Somewhere in the VB code of the Report Viewer I want to set the value of the parameter based on program logic. It appears that the data set (and associated components, i.e. tableadapter) are not visible in the Report Viewer code>

How does everyone set the parameters in the Where clause of their query at run time? i.e.:

Me._EmployeeTableAdapter.GetData(parm_a)
where parm_a is a vlaue generated inside the VB code. Except I can't make this work!

Either Rendering Tiff Images In SRS Report Viewer Or Converting Tiff To Jpg Or Gif And Then Rendering

First of all, this is not in reference to using SRS (SQL Reporting Services) to render a report and then use one of the extensions to render the complete report as a pdf, tiff, excel etc. We have an opportunity to render a list of claims and then embed the supporting docs for each of the claims within the report. We don't have an issue referencing jpg and gif images via URLs and then rendering them within the report after the grid information. We do have an issue rendering tiff images within the report.

You can insert an image object into SRS at design time and have it render and you can convert a complete report to a tiff image but I cannot find a way to be able to render a tiff image when running the report. All you get is the red "x".

My question is has anyone encountered the same issue and, if so, what did you do to resolve the issue?

Thank you,

ASP.NET Report Viewer, Slow Rendering, Image Broken

Hi,

I have been using the report viewer to render my reports on a webpage. All worked fine for a time and now nothing is working correctly.

I have about ~8 report viewer on one page, all in an individual IFRAME. What happen is, sometimes I'm getting an error from IE (Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage) or the report starts loading (I see the title) but where the chart should be I have an X (broken image) icon.

Sometimes when I click on the image and choose "Display Image" the image will display.

Facts

Reports loads correctly on the report manager site (the Reporting Services webpage)
Once those errors starts appearing, the session seems to act funny and I can't even refresh the webpage (F5)
I have the latest report viewer patch installed
I have the SP2 for SQL Server 2005 installed
Running Windows 2000 Server
Running IIS 6
The website was developped using IIS 5, but was tested on IIS 6 for about 3 weeks and we started to have problems today.
The reports are linked with Analysis Services to get the data from cubes.
I'm really out of ideas right now. Maybe I should just restart the IIS server, but the thing is live and I can't do it right now. However, if I need to restart it, will the problem occurs another time? Will it become a solution to restart the server?

I already restarted Reporting Services and nothing has changed.

Thanks

Possible To Access A Textbox Value On A Report Throught The Report Viewer Control?

I am trying to find a way to get the value of textbox from one of my reports after it has rendered. I am using the Report Viewer control in ASP.NET.

A little background on what I am trying to accomplish. I am capturing the Dataset commandtext in a hidden textbox to get the MDX query that is getting executed. I want to get the MDX query so that I can pass it to another ASP.NET page to be used with a pivot control by storing it in session or to a database.

I have been able to successfully use a hyperlink on a field and pass the MDX query to a page as a URL parameter for testing purposes.

1. I don't want to pass it the MDX query as a URL parameter as it is not safe.

2. Even if it was safe to do, in the event of large MDX queries, I would not be able to send the entire contents of it due to size limitations in the URL.

I have been thinking that I may be able to access a custom class in a hidden textbox that will save the MDX query and return an ID that I could then use to pass in the URL.

Any advice on how I may be able to accomplish this would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,

Steve

Error Rendering A SSRS Report Using ReportExecutionService Class

Hi all,

I am trying to render a report using the ReportExecutionService class render method. The report has a parameter ( Combo Box) which gets populated when the report is opened in report server. there are other parameters also. I am passing all the parameters in an array ParameterValue[] .

But the execution throws an error . I tried to catch the error using SoapException and the Error Code was "

rsReportParameterValueNotSet" for that parameter.

What i get is that i will have to paa all the parameters after opening the report so that the parameter (Combo box) get populated with the values and after that if I pass the parameters it should work.

For Example on the report server , when i open the link to the report that time it populates the data for parameter. Then i get the list of values gor the parameter.I am not able to find a way how to get this done through code.

I am not able to find any help regarding this. Please help at earliest.

Integrate SSRS With Report Viewer

Hi All,

I'm going to use report viewer to view the SSRS reports that I create. I have created bunch of reports. But I can publish only one report on report viewer. How can I publish more than one reports there just like on report manager. Can I view those reports just clicking links of each reports? How can I make links?
When I use reportview in visual studio it allows me to create only one report and when I dploy it straightaway it brings up the report in web form, but not the link like we see on report manager.
Is there anyway I can create links for each reports?

Or in other words, I want to integrate report server and report viewer. But I dont have a very good idea about report viewer.
So please can anyone explain the basic steps?

SSRS And ASP.NET Multiple Reports Within One Report Viewer

Ok,

I am writing an app that will allow a user to select various information for displaying in a report. The sql is dynamically generated when the user clicks on "Get Report". Currently, I am using a gridview with a datasource and I pass the query to the datasource and it displays in the grid view. However, our company has expressed a need to migrate reporting to SSRS.

Is there any way that I can use dynamic sql with a template report and feed the dynamic sql to it so that all I would have to do is write a single rdl or rdlc and pass it the sql?

Alternatively, is there a way to have One ReportViewer show multiple parameterized reports. Ie. User selects the report from a dropdown and then selects the parameter options from other dropdowns and when they click "get report" it loads the chosen report with the parameters?

Thanks in advance.

How To Figure Out If The Dataset Returned Any Data Or Not While Rendering The Report Through The SSRS Web Service

In one of my projects, i have been using the SSRS web service to render a report as pdf and then manually emailing it out.

I need to know whether the data set for the report returned any data or not (so that i can avoid emailing the report with a blank report body).

Ofcource this can be done by executing the same query (same as the query for the report) from C# code and checking the count of the resultset, before calling the SSRS Render method. But it might not be an efficient method.

Was wondering the the SSRS Web Service provides an property or method that can let me figure out whether the resultset was empty or not (after the report execution).

Thanks.

Help Needed: Export From Report Viewer && RDLC From SSRS Server

Hi,
I'm have two issues I need to work out.

1) - I need to get the RDL (the RDL format merged with the data, like a rendered report in RDL format) - to pass back to the client Report Viewer. Is there a way to do that? I do not see that as an optional output types.

2) - I need to export to a specific file/path from the client side Reportviewer.. Is this possible? Is there a lower level API for this?

Questions On SSRS Server RDLC XML && Report Viewer Export

I have a couple of quick questions on the SSRS server and getting the RDLC file (compiled Report file) from the server and how to programmatically control the print functions from the report viewer.

What we are trying to do is limit the functionality to the front end user, have an audit of what action were that were taken place, and lastly to export to a PDF/Tiff file, if any doc is printed or emailed.

To do this our app calls our web service with the report data, the web service works the server to render the report, then I would like to have the RDLC XML to pass back to the client to render on the local report viewer.

We want to allow them to print, email, or save a PDF of the report - but we have to control that so that we can keep an audit log of each action that has taken place.

The print dialog was easy, but now I am working on exporting the report to just a PDF file so that it can not be altered via the local viewer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

VS 2005 Default Report Viewer Vs. Report Manager Viewer

I have designed a few SSRS reports in VS 2005 and gotten them to render correctly in the VS report viewer (Preview pane, including Full Screen) as well as in PDF and TIFF export from there. However, when I launch them from the web-based Report Manager, the default viewer floats all the lines and rectangles after the text, making the output unusable for client verification (although PDF and TIFF exports are fine).

Can anyone tell me why these are different? Is there a way to set the default viewer in Report Manager? I am using Express edition, but a co-worker uses full SQL and gets the same bad results.

SoapException While Rendering Report Through WebService - Error During Processing Of ‘ReportParameterTime’ Report Parameter

I am extracting RS reports through a WebService:
report = execService.Render("EXCEL", null, out extension, out mimeType, out encoding, out warnings, out streamIds);

Some works fine but some are generating the following SoapException:

Error during processing of €˜ReportParameterTime€™ report parameter. ---> Error during processing of €˜ReportParameterTime€™ report parameter. ---> Error during processing of €˜ReportParameterTime€™ report parameter.
I set required parameters to their default values. In this specific report I have two required parameters:
1: ReportParameterTime, String
2: ReportParameter1, String

I set them to their default values (ReportParameterTime to "[Czas].[Kalendarzowy].[Rok].&[2007]" - means
Time Calendar Year 2007) but I am getting the exception above. I set parameters using this code:

execService.SetExecutionParameters(parameterValues.ToArray(), CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.Name);

Where parameterValues is a List<ReportExecution2005.ParameterValue>.

When I am using Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer the report is generated without
any problems. I can see one parameter to choose: "Kalendarzowy" (means adj. Calendar) and can
select years, the default value is "2007".

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this error ? Does anybody know ?

'Dynamic Time(year, month, date)' Report Template (rdl) Using Report Designer VS2005

I have three types of specific reports that i have to create with the input parameters (range) either

1: By date (rdl 1)

2.By Month (rdl 2)

3.By Year (rdl 3)

Is it possible ( or how do I ) to create just one report template ( one rdl) with the three sets of parameters ( hiding/invisible which ever two sets base on user selection) and the output of the report will display the desired type( either by year, month or date).

I ask this because its possible to create a drill down report from year down to date etc in report designer (vs 2005). Not sure if I can create one instead of three rdls and with the 'logic' built within that template.

Thanks

Reporting Services Report Viewer Versus Report Server Problem

Hi I have several reports that I have imported from Access into SQLReporting Services 2005. They are multi-level grouping reports and SQLServer Reporting Services generates rectangles and lists within lists tomake them work. I then go in and set the visibility conditionally on thevarious rectangles to hide them where there is no data in a group. The problem is that the reports work fine when they are on a report serverin particular all the white space for hidden rectangles etc. shrinks up andleaves no gaps. However when I import them into my Visual Studio 2005 project and changetheir extension to rdlc to make them work with the Report Viewer the whitespace for hidden controls does not shrink up and leaves up to 3cm verticalgaps between rows so the reports are unusable. The internal controls in the rectangles are quire close together and is thisanything to do with controls that overlap in the Report Viewer but not onthe Report Server?Oh Gurus, are the engines the same or does it have anything to do with theInteractive setting for example?Any help would be most gratefully appreciated !(You can always tell the pioneers because they are the ones that ride offinto the sunset with the arrows in their backs)

Report Viewer Jump To Issues With Relative Intra-report URLs

Hello,

Very strange phenomenon with the "Jump to report:" Hyerlink Actions when I deployed my reports to the production servers:

The Actions no longer funcioned properly when attempting to go to one report to another. Sometimes, the same report would come up and sometimes a different report. It appeared that whatever mechanism Report Server uses to construct the proper URL when using "Jump to report:" is unreliable(or the URL is not being honored by the web-server).

All this is happening under the Report Viewer control. I have had to do a painful fix of manually constructing the entire absolute URL and including the reportviewer control in the url.

Any way to get back relative Jump to report: URL's?

Any ideas what could be the problem? Any hints on how to investigate this is also much appreciated.

I'm using this query to generate a report. When I preview the report I should be able to select values from parameter drop down list for the following fields.
OfficerName
OfficerId,
BorrowerName
frmMain( is access form type. wonder how do I get this as a parameter to my ssrs report. how do I make available data set for this one?. I can not see available data set for this one when i click drop down menu in report parameter box)
Forms
ToDate
FromDate

But when I run the query I can see only date parameters. I can not see anyotehr parameters. I can add parameter and select fields like officerName, OfficerId etc. But it does not work when i preview it.

Actually one of the developers has created a stored proceedure for this report. He already created an Access report, What I really want to do is recreate it in SSRS or convert into SSRS. But in either way, this parameter thing does not work.
