Cannot Create Connection To Datasource?

I've had this datasource set up for awhile now, and i had it runing off of my login and password (with the selection "Credentials stored securely in the report server" selected). and the check box for †"Impersonate the authenticated user after a connection has been made to the data source" checked. But recently my password expired for my domain account, and i changed it, and now, it is not accepting either my old or new password. What is going wrong?

Here is the error messege:

An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)

Cannot create a connection to data source 'Reporting_FSSRC'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)

SSIS Datareader Destination As Datasource For SSRS

I am currently trying to use a SSIS datareader destination as a datasource in Reporting Services (RS). I have sucessfully developed the report and I am able to execute and see the results from it in the RS preview pane.† I am also able to deploy it (same server as RS development and report is on) without errors.† However, once deployed, I am unable to get the report to work in Report Manager.† I get the following error message:

"An error has occurred during report processing. Query execution failed for data set Dynamic_POS_BO_xRef'. The package failed to execute."

I have read everything in BOL regarding configuration of the RS Execution Account and have configured it with a domain member that has admin rights and tryed it with one that has limited rights (best practice recommendation).

Any ideas about what else I can try?

SSIS As DataSource For SSRS - Failure On Different Machine (Server Vs Dev)

I have developed an SSIS Package which is the Data Source for a Reporting Services report (using the OLE DB Destination DataReader component - very cool and powerfull!!!).

I have one Connection Manager defined in the package to access a SQL Server 2000 Database. The authentication is set to SQL Server Authentication (per the documentation in BOL) where I provide the UserID and Password.

Here is what works and what doesn't work:

In BIDS on my local machine the report executes beautifully.

When deploying the SSIS Package to my local machine's Integration Services File System and the report to my local machine's Report Server database the report executes beautifully (Yes, I'm using the developer edition).

When deploying the package to a W2003 Server Integration Services installation as well as deploying the Report and Data Source to the same W2003 Server's Reporting Services installation - the report fails.

I think it is because the passsword to the SQL Account is not "set".† †I am able to run the package through BIDS via dtexecui on this W2003 server successfully. However, when I run the report on the server it fails.

I am guessing it is because the password for the SQL Server Authenitcation is not "there". I am encrypting via "Save SensitiveDataWithPasssword".

What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions would be welcome.

XML DataSource, Text Dataset And Image From Database Using Visual Studio 2K5 And SSRS 2K5

"Short" Story Version:

I have a VS 2005 Web Appplication solution that†uses SQL Server Reporting Services 2005.† One of the projects is a Report Server Project. In this project†I have an†RDL file that†has:
1.)a non-shared XML DataSource (no credentials),
2.)a DataSet with a Command Type of Text and a Query String that is as follows:
<Query>
†<XmlData>
††<Root>
<LOAD LOAD_ID_PREFIX="" LOAD_ID="" TRUCK="" DIAGRAM=""/>
††</Root>
†</XmlData>
</Query>†

3.)a field that comes from the Database that is of VarBinary(Max) that is a JPEG Image

What happens is, is that by doing #2 above, at design time I can create tables and hook into my datasets and get the report all designed out the way I want.† Then at runtime, I have a Stored Procedure that uses the "FOR XML AUTO" option so that I can represent my results from the database in an XML fashion which will allow me to replace the†XML Schema†in between the Root tags above (in #2)†with my actual data (which still has the same schema).† I then save the modified RDL to a database table field†and move on to†happily ever after......in this case, not.† In this case, since an VarBinary is involved, unless I want to get a pointer back for the Diagram Column, I have to use the "FOR XML AUTO, BINARY BASE64" option.† This returns an Encoded string to represent the Binary value that was in the Database....and this is the partial source of my angst....read on.

My approach that I described above worked flawlessly in all cases where an image wasn't involved.† This report is the only report in the whole system I am working on that will have an image and it is the last one being done, so that's why I didn't run into this earlier.†

I have tried all kinds of things at different levels, but the thing that I have tried that seemed to me to have the most potential was†to use Embedded Code to take the Encoded†ASCII Value and convert into something binary that the SSRS Reporting Engine likes (so my image will show), but I have been unsuccessful thus far.† The error message I keep getting now from my Embedded†Function is: "Invalid length for a Base-64 char array", which I have not been able to resolve thus far....and I do know that the Binary value in the database is good becuase I can see it in†pages in my application otherwise.††

This aside, is there anyone out there that knows how to take the value of a VarBinary(Max) field and insert it into the Text (XML) DataSet in†the†markup of an†RDL file....and have it appear correctly when the report is rendered in something like the standard Report Viewer Control (or even when being previewed at design time inside of Visual Studio†for that matter)?†

Just to be clear, the root of my problem, as I see and understand it, is that I have a VarBinary value in a database that is being converted†to a string (ASCII...I am presuming) due to how I am writing my stored procedure†and then†needs to go back to something else binary†that the SSRS Engine will accept so that I can see my Image in the report when I render it.

I am†wishful that someone out there understands my problem and†has run into this and has a solution......but I am wishful of winning the lottery, too, and that hasn't happened yet...............

Thanks.

†Report Execution Error

Cannot create a connection to the data source 'datasource1'

I do not recieve this error, but the other users do.† I have set the other users as System administrator in the site-wide permissions, so they have access to everything.

Everything is set to integrated windows authentication.

On the Reporting Server Configuration Manager, the Unattended Execution Account is not selected and is blank.

What could cause these users not to be able to run existing or new reports they create?

Problem With The Connection To The Datasource

Hi everyone,

I have one problem with my reports. I have one Cube and every week, we process the cube to recalculate the measures.
Before, my report can be displayed with any problem but know, since we process the cube, we can't see the reports based on the cube.
The errors display in the report manager are :
rsProcessingAborted and
rsErrorOpeningConnection.

When i try to access the report directly from my local project thanks to visual studio, the reports works well.

I think that it may be a problem of rights and abilitations. Or maybe it'a an IIS problem ? Or a firewall problem ?

Thanks for your response.

Batch Script To Create ODBC And Update Registry Datasource Key - Help!

I†have create a batch file, that creates an ODBC then updates the application datasource key in the registry to the new system dsn name.

The problem is that†the new DSN doesn't work when i try and connect the application...but if i had manually created the odbc source the app connects as expected... i have checked the registry and there is no difference between the two dsns created...but the application throws IM002[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified after i have also changed the applications registry key to point to the new database.

Now the interesting things to note are that when i re-create the odbc to the old server and database (sql 2000) by batch file†it works fine. The new ODBC is linking to a sql 2005 database, but it is still using the 2000 drivers and†when i manually created it, it worked also.

Another interesting thing is that if i go into the odbc dsn and click configure, go through and test the connection it works fine... after i close this i then retry the application and it opens correctly...

I need this to be automated†with no manual intervention, as this will be added to a large group of users login scripts!

Any help greatly appreciated.

My batch file code is as below:

ODBCCONF.exe CONFIGSYSDSN "SQL Server" "DSN=RMS Live 2005 | SERVER=d-db99sql2005| Trusted_Connection=Yes | Database=RMS-Livedb"

Configuring The Connection (DataSource) Dynamically

Hi All,
I need to write a report which will run based on the user's input for Server Group. Meaning, if the user wants the report to be run for one say, UAT group, the report (and therefore the stored procedure) should be executed against UAT server. Or, if the user wants it to be run on the Production machine, the stored procedure should be executed on the Production Server. Assume that both UAT and Production servers are in the same domain to rule out any authentication issue.

I think one way of doing it is to create a linked server on one server which we use to connect via the Report Manager. So, whatever Server Group is selected based on that the SP will be executed on that respective Server Group's Server, since in the query we will have given full names of the tables that we use.

But, I strongly suspect, that having linked servers will not be accepted since it requires that the server owners maintain that. So, I was thinking if there is any other way of achieving this. If anyone knows, please help me with this.

Thanks a lot and let me know if the question is not clearly stated.

Manoj.

Trouble Using ADOX To Create Linked Tables In Jet Database From An ODBC Datasource

The error message is "Invalid Argument".

DTS - Updating DataSource Connection Via ActiveX Script Task

Hi,

I've written a DTS Package to pull information from a number of servers. I have a list of servers (Source Servers) and for each one I automatically update the Datasource property of the Source Server connection using vbscript in an ActiveX Script task and a global variable.

I have a transformation that occurs between the Source server and Target server.

As I process each Source Server in turn, the global variable gets set correctly and so does the Datasource property of the Source Server connection. However the transformation still runs against the first Source Server that was processed.

Looking at BOL it appears that a transformation stays connected even after it has finished. Therefore I assume that although I change the Datasource of the connection to a new server, it still runs against the first server that was used.

My question is how do I get the connection to run against the updated Datasource, i.e. do I need to do a refresh of the Connection, disconnect or what ?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

thanks
