I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 (Developer edition) on my Vista Ultimate machine. I've got the IIS 7 features turned on; I've got the SP2 patch CD; and I've run every install as administrator. I've run the SQL Server setup before and after the SP2 patch I'm doing a named instance using the built-in system account with windows authentication mode. Is there any COMPLETE guide as to how to work through all these installation problems? I've gotten same results after about six attempts. These always install: SQL Setup Support Files SQL Native Client SQL VSS Writer SQL Server Backward Compatibility Files SQLXML4 SQL Server Books Online These always fail: OCW11 SQL Server Database Services Analysis Services Reporting Services Notification Services Integration Services Workstation Components; Books Online

Steps To Install 64 Bit Sql Server 2005 Standard Edition In Windows Vista 64 Ultimate
Hi I have just take my system back to the factory defaults after some unsuccessful attempts to install 64 bit and 32 bit sql server on my notebook. I am looking to use either 32 or 64 bit (I have disks for both) and I would like to get a step by step guide that will help me through the process. I tried an install of the 64 bit version, applied SP2, and it went smoothly but the report services browser didn't work. I tried to change some IIS settings but I didnt document what I changed so i was unable to undo the changes that i made when these didnt work. I tried several combinations of things but then decided that a clean install on a clean system was the best option. I need the SQL engine , reporting services, analysis services - and possibly integration services - i am not sure if i need notification services (dont know what it does anyway!) I also have vs2005 - should i install that first or after sql server 2005 SP2? Thanks Doug

Dear friends... I am having this problem since I installed the new windows Vista. I am trying to install the SQL Server 2005 developer edition on Windows Vista, but After installation finish successfuly I open the start menu to surprise that I could not find the Shortcuts to open the SQL Server and create new database and tables etc... I opened the full path of the exe files "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsBinnVSShellCommon7IDE" but there are not any file there, even that I searched for the exe files names but they are not existed. It looks that after instalation complete that the SQL Server is not installed on Windows Vista. So, my question is: After installing the SQL Server 2005 SP2 for windows Vista, will the problem be solved? Or there is something else to do ON WINDOWS VISTA. Please, I need the answer for this problem, because I need to work on SQL Server 2005 very hard. Thanks in advance for your help...

Cannot Install Sqlserver 2005 Developer Edition With Vista Ultimate
Currently I am just trying to completely remove all Vista Ultimate's knowledge of installed instances of SQLServer 2005 Developer edition. I cannot do this for some reason. This all began when I tried to install SQLServer 2005 and it installed but I could not connect to it. Now I have two installed instances that I cannot access, after removing all SQL programs from the Programs and Features icon in the control panel. I tried running "WIndows Installer CleanUp Utility" as I read in a thread on this forum. This did not help. After going thru and removing all SQLServer programs using the "programs and features" icon in control panel... The installation process shows two installed instances of SQLServer 2005. 1) How can I completely erase all Vista Ultimate's knowledge of any SQLServer 2005 install and start over? I have downloaded SQLServer 2005 SP 2, and run it, but clearly what I should do, and what Microsoft has asked me to do are not working... 2) What should I be doing to install SQLServer 2005 Developer Edition successfully? Can I Use Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition With Windows Xp Home Edition SP2 For MCTS Exam 70-431 Preparation?
Hi I am interested in taking MCTS exam 70-431 for sql server 2005 implementation and maintainance. I have been reading the hardware requirements for the instalation of sql server versions and realise that enterprise and developer editions have same minimum requirements for the operation system. I understand that the Developer Edition includes all the functionality of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, but it is licensed for use as a development and test system, not as a production server. Also I undestand that the developer edition supports the Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 or later but the enterprise edition does not support this operating system. The evaluation/trial version is for the enterprise edition. Can I use the developer version of sql server 2005 for my practice exercises instead of using the trial version? I have all hardware requirements for the trial enterprise version except that I am using Microsoft windows Xp home edition version 2002 with SP2. I am trying to see if I can use the developer version of sql server 2005 as it is cheaper for me to buy this software than buying the new operating system for my computer. According to the microsoft book for the MCTS exam 70-431 there is a section which states that before you begin you should have Microsoft Windows Server 2003 running on your computer on an NTFS file system (NTFS) partition. Will I still be ok to use the book and be able to do all the tests in the book if i am using the developer version of sql server 2005 with my Microsoft windows Xp home edition than using the trial version which comes with the book? SQL2005 Developer Install On Windows Vista Home Premium
Hi, I'm having a problem installing SQL2005 Developer on Windows Vista. At the System Configuration check page, I'm getting the IIS Feature Requirement item telling me IIS is not installed or disabled. This is not the case. I have read article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920201 and switched on the IIS components as specified. I've tried installing with Firewall, virus checker etc switched off. Every time I get the same problem. This is an issue, as I specifically need Reporting Services installed. Has anyone managed to solve this problem ?

I could not install SQL Server 2005 Developer edition on my notebook with os Vista Home Premium. I know about the SP2 thing...but before coming that point, I can not either install the SQL Server 2005... When installing,when the database services point comes it gives an error about user thing...and then installation starts to rollback... I check the IIS configuration from the net...And see that while activating IIS there is no option for Windows Auth. in Home Premium in Control Panel>Program...>Windows Programs.....etc.... SO ON VISTA HOME PREMIUM is SQL SERVER 2005 Dev. Edition can be installed or not?

I have Visual Studio 2005 Professional on windows xp. I am getting error installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on windows XP. My Hardware is P4 1.6 GHz with 256MB RAM (Though BOL says setups shouldnt fail because of this ). Is there ANY solution for installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on Windows XP. Error - Installing SQL Server Developer Edition 2005 On Vista Home Premium
Hi, I have Vista Home premium edition and trying to install SQL Server developer edition 2005 as local administrator. I have already enabled IIS 7 and have Office Ultimate 2007 installed. When I run the set up program, I get a warning titled "Program Compatibility Assistant" that my Operating system may not be compatible with the version of sql server I am installing. It says after setup is complete, I should run SP2 of SQL Server 2005 with 3 buttons as "Check for solutions online", "run this program" and "cancel"... My question, should I select "run this program" and after the setup completes, download SP2 and apply the patch? I read some articles in forums that sounds like lot of issues to get sql server working on vista. Can some one direct me to correct options. This is my wife's machine so I dont want to experiment too much and blow her machine away. Please help. Thanks, Gaja

SQL Server Management Studio don't see local SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition x64 on Vista Ultimate x64 Hi, I have strange problem with SQL Server Management Studio on Vista Ultimate x64. Nothing change after installing all newest service packs or hot fixes. I have two running SQL servers on my local machine and all surrounding SQL services running as well. I have turn on TCP/IP and Named pipes on both of this servers. Actually I have reinstalled second server after first one wasn't contactable in any way... After finished installation of second one and after applying service packs I turn on SQL Server Management Studio and still nothing in local servers pane when Browsing for servers to connect but in network servers after few seconds I see one of my local servers (first one installed) and one SQL Server 2000 on other machine (on this one I can't connect because of time out error). Also when browsing for servers in Local Servers I see my machine in Integration Services. Only difference between this running services is that Integration service log on as Network Service and all other SQL services log on as Local System account and on SQL Server that is invisible I have also SQL Server Reporting Services running. SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition Automated Install.
I am working on a automated install (simulated with a batch file first) and I am having issues when I trying to install SQL2005dev, then SP1 and then the hotfixes. The main issue is SP1 returns to the batch file while it is still running. Does anyone know how to silently run SP1 and make it wait until after it is installed to continue (on to the hotfixes)? I am, successfully, running Visual Studio 2005. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

SQL Server 2005 SP2 Windows Updates Install On Vista X64
I'm currently running Windows Vista x64 and SQL server 2005 on an HP laptop with a AMD Turion 64 processor. I've install all of the Windows Vista x64 update so far with no issues. However, I'm unable to install SQL server 2005 SP2 via Windows updates. I was able to successfully download the service pack with no issues and it is currenly on my machine ready to install. The system does take a check prior to the install process beginning to perform the install. I continuely get and "Error Code A91" when the install process is running. As a result the install does not complete successfully. When I used the "Get Help" option I get a list of possible error conditions but none of them seem be useful. I checked each one and none of them provide any help with a solution. I've successful installed SP2 on Vista x32 system with no problem. Is this a "Windows Update" issue? Thanks

Can You Install SQL Server 2005 On Vista Ultimate Edition?
Ive been told that you cant install SQL Server 2000/2005 on anything but a server OS (such as Windows Server 2003). How are people installing this into vista then as Longhorn is far from being released? When i try and install it into Ultimate, i only get the option to install client tools... which makes sense as the machine isnt a server. Surely people can install SQL Server 2005 in Vista though? All of the features are green ticked except the OS which has a compatabilty warning (which i expected). I feel im missing something really simple here.... Cheers Rob Macnair

How Can I Install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition's Management Studio On A Desktop Machine?
I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!

During the install, I receive this message: "Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. SQL 2005 Developer Edition - Install Problems
I hope someone can help me. I recently installed SQL 2005 Developerversion, and I thought everything was fine - I could use the SQL serverpart of it. However when I tried to use the SSIS tools, it told me thatthe installation was incomplete. So I went to add/Remove programs tosee if I could repair it, and next to the SQL Server listing, I onlyhad a ? (blue info circle with ? inside) and it said that SQL serverwas not installed on the computer. But I could still call up SQL Mgmtstudio and it worked just fine. However I really need SSIS working. SoI uninstalled (via Add/Remove programs) all the other SQLServer Items(books online etc etc), and went back to try and reinstall from myinstall CD.The first error I get (which I got the first time I installed) is thatit can't run splash.hta. I try to run it from the html version but Iget script errors. So I went into the folders and installed usingsetup.exe. The installation starts OK, but then it tells me that it isalready installed and that I should use add/remove programs to domaintenance on it.So I can't install and I can't uninstall!!Any suggestions anyone?

I am having no end of grief.I started with a perfectly clean XP install. I performed an absolutelyclean, default install, and the installation hung. It appeared to freezewith the Agent startup. killed the install after 30 minutes of "freeze"time, and re-booted. The SQL Server Service started up no problem, but theAgent would not.I attempted to repair the installation, which seemed to work fine, but theAgent was still not working. I had used the "Local System Account" settingsto start the Agent, then tried a few different settings, all to no avail.Finally, I tried to apply some of the suggestions in the various newsgroups.I finally did get the Agent working, but now there are other problems.God! Vista X64 Ultimate + SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition (fresh Install)
Hi Everyone, I was playing around with SQL2k5 Express, but decided to download Enterprise using my MSDN subscription. I installed it, but none of the services are running. I don't understand why? I've checked the requirments and I notice that Vista x64 is not on the list for compatible OS's. We have an existing installation of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (64bit) that we are ready to go live with and would like to change the edition to Enterprise Edition (64bit). We have purchased all the appropriate licenses. We would like to avoid UN-installing the Developer Edition and RE-installing the Enterprise Edition. There must be some way to change a registry key, provide your serial number via a command line utility or re-run the setup with the license key provided and direct it to just change the edition from Developer to Enterprise and not change any of the other settings like service account, sa account, collation, etc. Any help is most appreciated. Hallo there, I just upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows Vista Bussiness and tried to reinstall SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition. After the installation i downloaded (using microsoft windows update) and installed all the service packs for sql and vista available. My problem is when i open sql server management studio and try to connect to my default instance using windows authentication and database engine, an 18456 error occurs. I enabled all the protocols and all the ports I disabled windows firewall and antivirus (eset nod32) I installed all service packs available I have also installed Visual Studio 2005 without installing sqlexpress But nothing happens! Please i am very desperate, any information will be gratefully accepted. How Can I Run SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition On Standard Edition
I tried to download PerformancePoint Server Trial Version to ther server today and I got to the configuration point of the Analysis Services Setting, and when I clicked next to proceed with the configuration I got a popup error message: "Microsoft Analysis Server must be Evaluation, Developer or Enterprise Edition". Now I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition Disc (Bought it with Visual Studio 2005) but on the server I have SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, if I try to run the sql server developer Edition disc, I use the wizard download and it seems that the download is going through the SQL Server entire download, it's like I'm re-downloading SQL Server all over again. Does that seem right? what is the best approach to work around this probelm? I appreciate any help Thanks

Connect From 2005 Developer Edition To 2000 Developer Edition
Hi, all - I'm trying to register a developer's 2000 pc from my 2005 pc. i'm not sure this is even something possible from Dev Edition to Dev Edition- I can register a 2000 server just fine. I can ping him. Both our systems have remote access 'on'. His server is (local), i've tried connecting to it by just entering his machine name and by using just the ip address. The error I get is "timeout expired. The timeout elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." Am I just not registering this properly? I entered just the ip address in the 'server' box. I am connecting as sa with the pw he gave me. When i connect to my server, I use the ip addressinstance. However, I am not sure what to use for the instance when all I see when I look at his machine is (local). I haven't needed to do this before. Suggestions?

Steps To Install SQL Server Express (&& Reporting Serivces) On 64 Bit Windows Vista Ultimate
Steps to install SSX (& Reporting Serivces) on 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate I struggled quite a bit over the past few days to complete this install. The sequence of steps is less obvious than those for Windows XP Pro on a 32 bit machine. I recorded all the steps in one place in cookbook style for non-technical (but database capable) users like myself. I have referenced appropriate other postings and sources for detail steps. These are steps I found useful, you may be in a different situation. My environment is as follows: -New HP dv9000 w/ 2GHz and 2GB memory -Factory installed Windows Vista Ultimate. Note this includes .NET Framework 2.0 so I did not have to deal with installing that. -I have no extant databases or SQL Server that I am trying to convert or upgrade! Setup Steps Before Install: 1) Turn off User Account Control. At present, I am a one-user operation with close control over my system and there seemed to be issues with getting reporting services set up right with UAC. I may come back and modify this step later on and certainly would change this for any releasable systems. 1a)Go to Control Panel Home --> User Accounts --> Turn User Account Control on or off. 1b)Unselect Use User Acount Control. 2)Set up your IIS 7.0 for Reporting Services. IIS 7.0 has IIS 6.0 Compatibility features turned off out of the box. You will turn them on with this step. This is needed for both Reporting services and to enable the Adminscripts that are used in Step 3 below. 2a) Use the Control Panel --> Programs --> Turn Windows features on and off function. This is quite nicely desribed with screen shots at: http://www.iis.net/default.aspx?tabid=2&subtabid=25&i=957 These steps worked for me although they are labeled Vista Beta 2. 3)Set up your 64 bit machine to run 32 bit ASP.NET This capability is needed to make sure you pass the System Configuration Check for Reporting Services. I don't know the full implications of this step and wonder if it might eventually bite me if I have to flip-flop between 32 and 64 bit ASP.NET or have them both run at the same time. 3a) Open a command line window by: Start --> Accessories -- Cmd Prompt 3b) In this window type: cscript %SystemDrive%inetpubAdminScriptsadsutil.vbs set w3svc/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1 At some point, you may wish to go back to 64 bit. For that, see the posting by MihaelaE as an Answer in the SQL Server Reporting Services Forum under a thread started by fagster on 3/8/2007. Now to actually install SQL Server. 1) Download the 64 bit SSX. This step fooled me for a while as the 64-bit downloads are 'below the fold' on the web page. 1a) Go to the SSX download page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ 1b) Scroll down the page and below Step 5, Register, you will see this text which takes you to the download you want: "* For the 64-bit install of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, click here." 1c) Follow the "click here" to get the download. 2) Install the package from step 1c and you will get SQL Server Express. 2a) The install may fail and complain about not finding a valid SQL Server Native Client Install, sqlncli_x64.msi. You will have to extract the files manually and then run the sqlncli_64.msi package by itself. Then you can go back to step 2 and should be successful. To do this, see post of Mike Wachal on 4/5/2007 to SQL Server Express Forum, titled "Cannot Install SQL Server Express on Vista Ultimate -- cannot find MS SQL Server Native Client". 3) Now add in the SQL Server Management Studio Express 64 bit version. 3a) Go to the SSX download page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ 3b) Scroll down the page and below Step 5, Register you will see this text which takes you to the download you want: "* For the 64-bit install of SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express, click here." 3c) Follow the "click here" to get the download. 4) Now add the SQL Server Reporting Services. 4a) Go to the SSX download page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ 4b) Scroll to Step 3 Download and Install (in the middle of the page) and download SQL Server Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2. 4c) Install, but at the Feature Selection screen, disable all components EXCEPT Reporting Services. You already have the other components installed. 4d) In the install, you will get a screen called "Report Server Installation Options". Go ahead and select the "Install but do not configure the server" radio button. 5) Go ahead and configure SQL Server Reporting Services. I'm not highly skilled in this area so I recommend the SQL Server Express Video "Learning Video 10: Getting Started with Reporting Services". That's what it took me to get SQL Server Express installed with reporting services on a 64 bit Vista Ultimate system. Sorry if this is so long but I wanted to cover all the steps that hung me up. Won't Install On Windows Server 2008 Web Edition
Hi, When I try to install either SQL Server 2005 SP2 or SQL Server 2008 CTP 2 on a trial copy of Windows Server 2008 Web Edition I get no error messages but the SQL engines are not installed.
