T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Rows Into Columns - Remove Duplicates And Variable Rows

Aug 5, 2014

I managed to transpose rows into columns.

;WITH
ctePreAgg AS
(
select top 500 act_reference "ActivityRef",
row_number() over (partition by act_reference order by act_reference) as rowno,
t3.s_initials "Initials"
from mytablestuff
order by act_reference

[code]...

But what I would love to do next is take each of the above rows - and return the initials either in one column with all the nulls and duplicate values removed, separated by a comma ..

ref, initials
Ag-4xYS
Ag-6xYS,BL
Ap-1xKW
At-2x SAS,CW
At-3x SAS,CW

OR the above but using variable number of columns based on the maximum number of different initials for each row.this is not strictly required, but maybe neater for further work on the view

ref, init1,init2
Ag-4xYS
Ag-6xYS,BL
Ap-1xKW
At-2x SAS,CW
At-3x SAS,CW

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Rank Duplicates But Only Rows Involved In Duplicates?

Oct 22, 2014

I have a table with 22 million Business records. I can see that there are duplicates when I group by BusinessName and Address and Phone. I'd like to place only the duplicates into a table, with a ranking, oldest business key gets a ranking of 1.

As a bonus I'd like each group to have a distinct group name (although not necessary, just want to know how to do this)

Later after I run more verifications to make sure these are not referenced elsewhere I'll delete everything with a matchRank > 1 out of the main Business table.

DROP TABLE [dbo].[TestBusiness];
GO
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[TestBusiness](
[Business_pk] INT IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[BusinessName] VARCHAR (200) NOT NULL,
[Address] VARCHAR(MAX) NOT NULL,

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Way To Convert Rows To Columns

Sep 17, 2014

I work with SQLite and need to write a query the old school way to convert rows to columns. If it was MS SQL I would use pivot to get the expected result. However this is SQLite I cannot use pivot.

Sample data:

create table t1 (id int, Dept char (1), Total int);
insert t1
select 1, 'A', 100
union
select 2, 'B', 120
union
select 3, 'C', 140
union
select 4, 'D', 150;

How do I use LEFT OUTER JOIN to produce result similar to the below?

SELECT 'Total' AS Dept,
[A], [B], [C], [D]

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: How To Compare Two Rows And Two Different Columns

Oct 22, 2014

I am fairly new to SQL and writing queries so bear with my faults. I am learning on the job, which is good and bad. Below is a query that I have written to obtain some information. The problem arises when we have a patient who goes from Patient Type '1' to Patient Type '2'. This needs to be considered a singular visit and the only way I can think that this may work is if: for any specific medical record a dsch_ts is equal to the Admit TS on the next row.

How to complete something like this and my google searches have been fruitless. I attached a spreadsheet with an example of what I am getting.

SELECT DISTINCT

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Convert Records From Rows To Columns

Nov 13, 2014

I have 5 columns in my database. 1 column is coming like a dynamic.

I want to convert records from rows to columns. Currently I have a data like this.

Race AgeRange Amount

W 17-20 500
W 21-30 400
W 31-40 200
A 17-20 100
H 41-50 250
H 51-60 290

So age range is not fixed and it can be any and I have one separate relational table for age range where it's coming from. Now I want to convert it into columns like

Race 17-20 21-30 31-40 41-50 51-60

W 500 400 200 0 0
A 100 0 0 0 0
H 0 0 0 250 290

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Multiple Contact / Possibilities - How To Remove Duplicates

Aug 11, 2015

I have a bunch of contacts that I've scored how well their names match to other contacts in the same business. I can programmatically figure out how to parse the results, but would like to know how to do this via SQL. My problem is for Business_fk 968976 I have 7 contacts. In the end I should have 4 contacts based on name match. For the business key listed Gerardo Lopez is in the ContactScore table twice for Contact keys 7355719 and 57028145. I then have two rows like so:

PossibleBusinessContactMatch_pk BusinessContact_fk Business_fk BusinessContactMatch_fk MatchTypeCode MatchScore MatchRank FirstName LastName Phone Email
------------------------------- ------------------ ----------- ----------------------- ------------- ----------- ----------- -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- ---------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1772960 57028145 968976 7355719 C 46 1 GERARDO I LOPEZ 8162214000
838834 7355719 968976 57028145 C 50 1 GERARDO

Each reference each other, and 2 is a good case, a more difficult case would have key 1 listed 10 times showing a ContactMatch_fk of 2 - 11, and then Contact_fk 2 listed 10 times with a ContactMatch_fk of 1, 3-11.I know 57028145 maps to 7355719 from the first row in the ContactScore table, so when Contact_fk of 7355719 comes up I should be able to skip it and not process that match. Hopefully that makes sense. Anyway here is the test data:

IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.objects WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'[dbo].[ContactScore]') AND type in (N'U'))
DROP TABLE [dbo].[ContactScore];
GO
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[ContactScore]
(
[ContactScore_pk]INT NOT NULL,

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Get Rows From C If Linked Rows In B Contain All Rows In A

I have 3 tables...

JobRequirements (A)
JobID int
QualificationTypeID int

EmployeeQualifications (B)
EmployeeID int
QualificationTypeID int

Employee (C)
EmployeeID int
EmployeeName int

I need to return a list of all employees fit for a specific job ... The criteria is that only employees who have all the JobRequirements are returned. So if a job had 3 requirements and the employee had just 2 of those qualifications, they would not be returned. Likewise, the employee might have more qualifications than the job requires, but unless the employee has all the specific qualifications the job requires they are not included. If an employee has all the job qualifications plus they have extra qualifications then they should be returned...

How to only return those records where all the child records are present in the other table..

Dataset Into A Table Or Matrix With Fixed Number Of Columns, Variable Rows

Jul 13, 2007

Hi

I have a dataset with 2 columns, a rownumber and a servername - eg

rownumber servername

1 server1

2 server2

....

15 server15

I want to display the servernames in a report so that you get 3 columns - eg

server1 | server2 | server3

server4 | server5 | server6

...

server13 | server14 | server15

I have tried using multiple tables and lists and filtering the data on each one but this then makes formating very hard - i either end up with a huge gap between columns or the columns overlap

I have also tried using a matrix control but cant find a way to do this.

Does anybody know an easy way to do this? The data comes from sql 2005 so i can use a pivot clause on the dataset if somebody knows a way to do it this way. The reporting service is also RS2005

Thanks

Anthony

Arranging Data On Multiple Rows Into A Sigle Row (converting Rows Into Columns)

Dec 25, 2005

Hello,
I have a survey (30 questions) application in a SQL server db. The application uses several relational tables. The results are arranged so that each answer is on a seperate row:
user1   answer1user1   answer2user1   answer3user2   answer1user2   answer2user2   answer3
For statistical analysis I need to transfer the results to an Excel spreadsheet (for later use in SPSS). In the spreadsheet I need the results to appear so that each user will be on a single row with all of that user's answers on that single row (A column for each answer):
user1   answer1   answer2   answer3user2   answer1   answer2   answer3
How can this be done? How can all answers of a user appear on a single row
Thanx,Danny.

SQL Server 2014 :: Remove Duplicates In Opposite Columns

264052258643258642
264502258643258663
264502258643259562

Within the LinkingID, there are duplicates in ID1 and ID2 but just in opposite columns. I have been trying to figure out a way to remove these set based. It doesn't matter which duplicate is removed. Essentially these are just endpoints and I don't care which side they are on. The solution must recognize the duplicates and not just remove based on every 2nd row.

Transform To Remove Rows From Data Set A That Match Rows In Data Set B On A Given Key?

Jun 28, 2006

Hi,

I have a common requirement in numerous SSIS processes to take my main input data set and to remove all rows from it that match a second input data set on a given key and output this as the main output. I also want to output (as a second output) all the rows from the main input data set that did match on the given key. However, I don't want to merge in data from the second input, nor am I interested in rows from the second input data set that have no match in the main input.

E.g. If I have the following data:

Main input:
Key Name
--- ----
1 Steve
2 Jamie
3 Donald

Second Input
Key DontCareAboutThisField1
--- -----------------------
1 ...
3 ...
4 ...

Then I would like the following output:

Main Output
Key Name
--- ----
2 Jamie

Second Output
Key Name
--- ----
1 Steve
3 Donald

Can I do this with a standard transform, or will I have to write my own? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Lawrie

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Delete Duplicates From Table Based On Two Columns?

May 20, 2015

Assuming I have a table similar to the following:

Auto_ID Account_ID Account_Name Account_Contact Priority
1 3453463 Tire Co Doug 1
2 4363763 Computers Inc Sam 1
3 7857433 Safety First Heather 1
4 2326743 Car Dept Clark 1
5 2342567 Sales Force Amy 1
6 4363763 Computers Inc Jamie 2
7 2326743 Car Dept Jenn 2

I'm trying to delete all duplicate Account_IDs, but only for the highest priority (in this case it would be the lowest number).

I know the following would delete duplicate Account_IDs:

DELETE FROM staging_account
WHERE auto_id NOT IN
(SELECT MAX(auto_id)
FROM staging_account
GROUP BY account_id)

The problem is this doesn't take into account the priority; in the above example I would want to keep auto_ids 2 and 4 because they have a higher priority (1) than auto_ids 6 and 7 (priority 2).

How can I take priority into account and still remove duplicates in this scenario?

Turn Columns Into Rows And Rows Into Columns

Jan 24, 2008

I have a report which is a list of items and I display everything about the item. It is great. My report table in the layout tab is simple. Header,Detail,Footer. Each Item has 65 columns. The number of items (rows) vary upon what you want to see. Example data.
Item#, Description, CaseSalePrice, Cost, BottleSalePrice, Discount
123, Grenadine, 100.00, 75.00, 15.50, 2.00
456, Lime Juice, 120.00, 81.00, 17.25, 2.00

There could be 1 item or 4000 items.

What I want to see is.

Item # - 123, 456
Description - Grenadine, Lime Juice
CaseSalePrice - 100.00, 120.00
Cost - 75.00, 81.00
BottleSalePrice - 15.50, 17.25
Discount - 2.00, 2.00

What I am actually doing is running this the top example and saving to excel. Then copying the sheet. Creating a new sheet then doing a paste special transpose and this gives the users what they want to see.

I want to grab that table object in the report layout tab and twist it 90degrees so the header is on the left, detail is in the middle and the footer is on the right. It would be perfect.

The dynamic column need is really the problem here. I never know how many items will be in the report. They all have the same basic information like description and pricing.

I am all out of creative ideas, any help would be appreciated.

Display All Rows (including Duplicates) In Report

May 8, 2007

I have a report that is built using the report builder and the report model that was created.
With the fields that are displayed in the report, it could be possible for the database to have multiple rows with the same values for all the fields (that are displayed in the report). The PK will be different, but this is not displayed in the report as the PK won't make sense in the report.
So what happens is that the report displays just 1 record even though the database has multiple records because all the fields (that are displayed in the report) are identical. Is there a way to make the report display all the rows irrespective of duplicates?

Remove Rows Repeating More Than Twice

Nov 29, 2007

Ok, so I've been racking my brains on this one for a while now and figured it was time to ask for some help...

I have a table named tblAppInfo that looks something like this:

Code Block
user_name app_name app_ver

User1 MS Word 2000
User2 MS Word 2000
User3 MS Excel 2000
User4 MS Excel 2000
User5 MS Excel 2000
User6 MS Excel 2000
User7 MS Outlook 2000
User8 MS PowerPoint 2000
User9 Adobe Acrobat 5.0
User10 Adobe Acrobat 6.0
User11 Adobe Acrobat 7.0

What I want to do is remove any rows that repeat the app_name and app_ver more than twice. Basically in the example above, it would remove the lines that have MS Excel 2000 (as it's listed 4 times). MS Word 2000 would stay as it's only listed twice. As would Outlook and PowerPoint. All 3 Adobe's would also stay as their versions are different.

I've tried the following but it still repeats applications that occur more than twice:

Code BlockSELECT user_name, app_name, app_ver
FROM tblAppInfo
GROUP BY app_name, app_ver, user_name
having count(distinct app_name + app_ver + tblAppInfo.host_name) < 3
ORDER BY app_name, app_ver

I've also tried using nested select statements and everything else in my arsenal to no avail. I hope someone here will be able to help me out as I'm afraid I'll go bald if I try anymore!

Thanks in advance!

There are oftenseveral entries where 1 and 2 are the same but 3 and 4 are differenti.e.WA1Bewsey and Whitecross53.386492-2.596847WA1Bewsey and Whitecross53.388203-2.590961WA1Bewsey and Whitecross53.388875-2.598504WA1Fairfield and Howley53.388455-2.581701WA1Fairfield and Howley53.396117-2.571789My current query isSELECT DISTINCT Postcode, Town, latitude, longitudeFROM PostcodeWHERE Postcode.Postcode = 'wa1'ORDER BY Postcode, TownHowever as latitude and longitude differ on each line DISTINCT doesnot do what I'm looking for.Can anybody suggest a way changing the query to just give the firstinstance of each Postcode/Town combo?I.E.WA1Bewsey and Whitecross53.386492-2.596847WA1Fairfield and Howley53.388455-2.581701Many thanks!Drew
