This Task Or Container Has Failed, But Because FailPackageOnFailure Property Is FALSE, The Package Will Continue.

Apr 5, 2007

This task or container has failed, but because FailPackageOnFailure property is FALSE, the package will continue. This warning is posted when the SaveCheckpoints property of the package is set to TRUE and the task or container fails.

I have just spotted the message above in one of my log files.

I've never noticed it before. Is it new in SP1? I'm guessing it must be.

If so - good job. This is a very important addition because the behaviour of checkpoints without setting FailPackageOnFailure=TRUE is not intuitive (in my opinion).

Execute Package Task Always Fail When ExecuteOutOfProcess = False

May 29, 2006

Why does the Execute Package Task in SSIS always fail when set to execute in-process?

Having ExecuteOutOfProcess = False always results in that the package fails when run from within BI Studio.

I have also tried it from Command Line using dtexec., same results.

The problem with setting ExecuteOutOfProcess = True all the the time and running from within Bi Studio is that an enourmous amount of processes is created, none of which die because SSIS runs in Debug mode, another problem which is there doesn't seem to be a way to run it in Release mode so as not to get so many Dtexec processes, which ultimately results in having the Server die.

By Dying I mean, thrashing of the CPU & Memory. Page file to extreme limits.

And yes, the hardware should be able to take much more than what SSIS is supposed to eat. Dual 3GHz Xeon & 4GB of Ram.

Thank you.

My kind regards,

FOREACH Loop Container: Continue ?

May 26, 2006

With a ForEach container, configured to loop through files in a
directory, if I have a problem with a file.. can I direct the loop to
skip on to the next file?

I'm processing structured files, first record of each is some
header info, body records are in the middle, and then the last record
is a trailer containg a checksum

So, for each file in the directory, I split the records into three raw
files, one for header rec(s) , one for body recs and one for trailer
recs. (based on line numbers and using a conditional split to direct
the records)

Then I start by processing the header recs in a dataflow.. if all goes
well there I move on to the next dataflow to process the body recs from
the DataRecs raw file.. etc...

I would like to do some validation at each processing step.. if a
header rec fails validation say... then I'd like to just stop
processing that file and move onto the next file...

Now, I don't see my validation throwing an exception... so its more
that I'd decide (maybe using an Audit ) that the header doesn't pass
validation.. then I'd like to put a record in an error table (with info
about filename, source etc, not just content of the current data row)

But not sure what approach to take on this...

If there is an appropriate section in BOL please point me at it...

Thanks

Object Task Property Destroyes Package

Jan 9, 2007

Hi,

In a custom task I have a property of type Hashtable. This property gets changed by a custom UI. After changing the value and closing the UI, the Hashtable is properly filled during investigation in the validate() method.

Now saving the package and inspecting the XML file of the package, there is only this entry:

<DTS:ObjectData><InnerObject><PromotionCodes Type="12" Value=""/></InnerObject></DTS:ObjectData>

So it seems, that the value is empty and there is no further data to the object. Trying to reopen the saved package, the opening fails with something like (Had to translate it my own from german):

Error loading '<PackageName>' : Error loading a task. The contact information for the task is ''. This problem occurs on an error during task loading.

There should be a out of the box possibility to save collections or do you have to implement Load/Save XML your own if you have complex datatypes as properties? As the package has the element of the property included (but empty), it seems it tries to save it.

Anyone a hint. Anybody occuring the same behavior?

Thanks T.

Value Of A Readonly Property Of Custom Task Is Not Updated In Property Window

Apr 17, 2008

Hi,

I developed a simple custom control flow component which has several read/write properties and one readonly property (lets call it ROP) whichs Get method simple returns the value of a private variable (VAR as string). In the Execute method the VAR has a value assigened. When I put the value of ROP or VAR into MsgBox I can see the correct value. However when I execute the component I can not see the value of the ROP in the property window. I see the property but its value is empty string. For example when I put a breakpoint to postexecute or check the property before click OK in a MsgBox I would expect that the property value would be updated in SSIS as well. Is there a way how to display correct values of custom tasks properties in property window?

Thanks for any hints.

Task Failed, SSIS Package Reporting Success

Mar 26, 2008

I'm debugging a SSIS package in Visual Studio and I have a task that failes but the overall package is reporting success. The deployed package in SQL2005 is doing the same thing.

Task failed: FactVisitApplicationInventory

SSIS package "PACE to PACE DW PROD.dtsx" finished: Success.

The program '[4652] PACE to PACE DW PROD.dtsx: DTS' has exited with code 0 (0x0).

I have set FailPackageOnFailure=True, FailParentOnFailure=True, and MaximumErrorCount=0 on this task and am executing just this single task in Studio and I can't get the Package to report a failure.

Any ideas?

Execute Package Task Failed When Deployed To Server..

Feb 11, 2007

Hi,

I have a package that contains an Execute Package Task... it works fine when on my local machine and on our test-server.
After deploying the SSIS solution to our customers server, I open the project in Visual Studio and run the mainPackage in debug mode and the Task fails when trying to execute the package.. if I remove everything in the childpackage it still fails... the path to the package is correct and I know that I have rigths to execut it. I do not use any package security/encryption..
If i create a new package in the project and create a new fileconnection to it the Execute Package Task executes correctly, with the exact same content as the original package...

So my guess is that something in the FileConnetion object is set wrong, but i cannot understand what it is. The errormessage i get is something like this. "Execute Package Failed. Could not execute package".

Anyone had the same problem as I? I´m grateful for any help!

How To Programmatically Detect The Failed Task After Executing The Package

Apr 27, 2007

SSIS Experts,

I am executing a child package programmatically and want few lines of code to detect cause of the failure on the fly. One way will be to run the child package through dtexec command uility. But on the fly i will be assigning few values in Parent package variable to the child variables and finally run the child package. Since we cannot apply expressions or use precendence constraints in place, It seems that we are left with only choice to programmatically detect errors in tasks. In DTS, it was achieved this way:

Code Snippet

For Each ostep In oPkg

If ostep.ExecutionResult = DTSStepExecResult_Failure Then

ProcessSubDTSPackage = DTSTaskExecResult_Failure

End If

Next

Execute Package Task Error: Failed To Decrypt Protected XML Node DTS:Password

Jun 20, 2006

I have a package (PackageA) with an Execute Package Task that execs PackageB. When I run PackageA I get this error on the Execute Package Task :

Failed to decrypt protected XML node "DTS:Password" with error 0x8009000B "Key not valid for use in specified state.". You may not be authorized to access this information. This error occurs when there is a cryptographic error. Verify that the correct key is available.

PackageB has 'EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey' ProtectionLevel. I'm providing passwords in the dtsConfig so I'm guessing I should change it to 'DontSaveSensitive'?

Interestingly, PackageA also has 'EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey' ProtectionLevel, but I don't get an error about PackageA, just on the task that runs PackageB.

It seems to me that after breaking the execution of the script task and adding some code in break mode, whole edit disappears after leaving VSA environment.

I have enjoyed the Edit and Continue feature when developing in VBA, so I am wondering if it is available in VSA.

Thank you very much for the answer!

Implementing Transaction In SSIS Package - [Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed To Acquire Connection &&<ConnectionName&&>.

Jun 30, 2006

I have a simple SSIS package with three "Execute SQL Tasks". I am using ADO.Net Connection to execute SPs on a DB server.

When I execute this package It works fine. So far so good.

Now, I need to implement transation on this package. And problem starts now onwards. When I try to execute package after setting TransationOption = Required for the Sequence container which contains all the tasks, I get following error.

[Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "NYCDB0008.Export". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.

"NYCDB0008.Export" is the name of the ADO.Net connection. I have been hunting for any solution but all in vain. I have tried changing all DTC settings on the dev as well as Database server.

Please respond if anyone has any solution.

My goal is to continue the loop to process the rest of the files by skipping the bad file and error. In each task OnError I am creating custom error message to send an error/ sucess summary email out at end of the process.

How can force the for loop to continue when there is an error?

Is there any way to reset the errors?

Job Fails For Package Containing Script Task With Error The Script Files Failed To Load.

Apr 7, 2006

I have developed an SSIS package that includes a Script Task on a 32-bit machine. The PrecompileScriptIntoBinaryCode property is set to True. After I build the package, the .dtsx file includes a <BinaryItem> element for that Task. Package runs fine on the dev machine, both in BIDS and as SQL Server Agent job.

When I deploy the package to a 64-bit server, it runs fine when I execute the package ad hoc from SQL Server Management Studio. However, when I schedule the package for execution as a SQL Server Agent job, the package fails with the message: "the script files failed to load."

I have reviewed posts on this error from late 2005, but the solutions don't work in this case. Specifically:

1. The Precompile property is already set to True.

2. I have already verified that the script was compiled.

Any further suggestions?

Strange Behaviour With Sequence Container Task

Sep 21, 2006

Hi everyone,

Our VB application throws .dtsx on-demand by using Threads. Everything's fine but a little detail:
when it goes to launch a SSIS package with a only task, concretely a Sequence Container task (empty, without tasks inside) fails Prevalidate method.

Attach you the snippet of code:

pkgResults = pkg.Validate(Nothing, Nothing, EventsSSIS, Nothing) -- pkgResults returns me Failure {1}

If pkgResults = DTSExecResult.Success Then
..
..

Validate method, as usual, do EVENTSSSIS.PreValidate event and after that, returns instead of follow raising events.

Perhaps it's mandatory to set one task as a minimum, I don't get the point at all

Any guidance or thought will be welcomed,

Thanks in advance and regards,

Error Message: Script Task, For Loop Container

Apr 23, 2008

I everyone,
I'm learning SSIS from a book but the most simple example is not working.
The "For each task" I assigned "xyz" as name.
I added a variable onto the "variables" window and called it "counter" Its scope was set to "xyz".
Inside the "for loop" ("xyz") editor i assigned values as follows:
"initexpression"-"@counter=0"
"eval expression"-"@counter<5"
"assign expression"-"@counter=@counter+1"

I added "Script task" onto the "For each" container and into the "Script task editor" I assigned
the following values:
"ReadOnlyVariables"-"counter"
Its design script is set to:

Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Math
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime

Public Class ScriptMain
Public Sub Main()
Dim variables As Variables
If Dts.Variables.Contains("Counter") = True Then
Dts.VariableDispenser.LockOneForRead("Counter", variables)
End If

MsgBox("You are in iteration: " & CStr(variables("Counter").Value))
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success

End Sub
End Class

Runnig it i get the following error message:quote:
"DTS Script task has encountered an exeption in user code:
Project name:ScriptTask_e7d98dbad0de4041bcdc9079a5c2fa65
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.."
The line where the error occurs is from within the above script:
"MsgBox("You are in iteration:" " & CStr(variables("Counter").value))
Anyone understands what that means? What is "object reference" and how do i set it to an instance of an object?
Thanks

SSIS Sequence Container,data Flow Task

Nov 28, 2005

I am creating a staging database in which I am loading required tables from 2 different sources.
I have 30 different tables to load from source 1 and 10 different tables from source 2.
This is the way I am doing, in Control flow task I am using Sequence container and in that I included the data flow task, the data flow task
has source OLD DB connection from where I select the table and then destination OLE DB connection where I load the data.
So for 30 tables I have one Sequence container with 30 different data flow task and each data flow task has OLE DB source and OLD DB destination.
I wanted to find out if this is the efficient way to do, or if there is any other way to do this.
And for source 2 shall I put in another package or shall I use the same package with different sequence container and follow the same steps
as for Source 1 tables.
Please advice.

XML Task In For Loop Container Always Fails After Initial Failure

Jun 4, 2007

Hi,

I am using an XML task for validating the XML data against the XML Schema. Let me describe the scenario, I am working on.

I have XML Files with different schema. I have different XSD files for each XML file type. I have used a for loop container which has a script task and an XML task. Script task gets the XML File and XSD file contents into variables which are, in turn, used by XML Task for validation.

XML task is configured in the option "Validate". I have provided the XML Data in variable and XSD file content in other variable. XML Task stored the result in another variable. FailOnValidationFail property set to false.

Every thing works fine until result of XML Task is false. If XML Task fails for one of the files, it fails for each subsequent files. If first file does not compile to schema and other files do, then XML task fails all the files because first file failed.

Is this a problem with XML Task or I have missed any property. Please, guide me through.
