Unable To Install SQL 2005 Express On My XP Desktop
Hi Folks,
I am unable to install SQL 2005 Express on my XP desktop. I receive following error:
SQL Server 2005 setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio .............
- I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Visual Studio 2005 Express many times
- I do not see any version of SQL installed on my machine from Add/Remove Program
- I checked the running processes and there is no instance of SQL running
I do not know where this incompatible version of SQL is on my machine. I am getting ready to format my machine but I want to see if someone can help me install 2005 express without having to format my PC.

Hi, I had some issues on my server and had to uninstall .Net Framework 2.0, SQL Server 2005 Express, and SQL Express Toolkit. I installed SQL Server 2005 Express and it seemed to be ok. Then my problems all started when I tried to install SQL Express Toolkit because I needed to install DTS Wizard again, and it errors out and wouldn't let me install it. So I uninstalled everything that's listed above again. I then tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express again, and on the second from last screen, while its listing all the components and configuring them, I get the following error as it's configuring the last component... which was the SQL Server Database Services. TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup ----------------------------------------------------------- The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually." Unable To Install SQL Express 2005 Toolkit Sp2
Hi support I have a copy of Visual studio 2008, SQL Express advanced 2005 sp2 and i want to install SQL Express 2005 toolkit 2005. I have run the install several times and each time the installer thinks i've already installed the software and refers me back to add/remove to modify the install. According to my registry i have installed the toolkit ..90/tools/setup/editiontype ( = Express Edition Toolkit) but the Business Intelligence Development Studio options haven't installed along with all the other options offered under the toolkit sp2, as i can't see them as an option to select from the start/all programs/microsoft sql server 2005. Also for some reason there is no options to uninstall the toolkit, which again means i have no way of reinstalling the software. Please help Damian

Unable To Install SQL Server Express 2005 Sp2 On Vista Ultimate
I have been trying to install BCM 07 and Accounting Pro 07 for a couple days now with the same SQL Server Express eroor. I've also attempted to install SQL Express sp2 alone to no avail either. Unable To Install SQL Server 2005 Express On A Vista Home Premium O/S
I have tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express several times with no success. I have followed the instructions to remove all SQL files on the Programs menu. Then, when I attempt to install it again, it only goes as far as the database where it stops and gives the error message: SQL Server cannot write system databases to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData because it contains files from a previous installation. To continue, move the databases from the specified folder, or specify a different installation folder. Then run SQL Server Setup again. It doesn't give options and I can only abort the installation. Does anyone have a remedy for a technologically challenged person? Thank you. George

Hello Experts, I have been unable to install SQL Express 2005 Server on my Windows 2003 Server (with SP2 installed). I keep getting an error message saying that Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is not installed. Click here for image So, I downloaded Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe) but whenever I try to install it I get an error message saying that "the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying" and that there is no need to install the update and it stops there. Click here for image Is there a workaround to this? How can I get Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 installed? I tried going to the Windows Update site, I already have everything installed and I even started the Windows Installer service manually. Has anyone else experienced this? How can I get SQL Server 2005 Express installed if not how can I install SQL Server 2000 on tihs machine? The only reason I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 is because wanted to try it so I uninstalled SQL Server 2000 now I can no longer install SQL Server 2000 again because it won't let me because of the SP2 patch. Help! :(

Install Sql 2005 On A Machine That Has Desktop Engine
My coworker tried install SQL server 2005 on a server. The server already has a desktop engine running as "MSSQLServer". Because the new sql server 2005 need running as a default instance. So he still using "MSSQLServer" as the instance name. After installation, the service's running file seems still point to the old location. When view the properties on Management studio, it still report as "desk top engine" and the version is 8.xx..xxxx. My question is, 1. What has been done during the installation? Is current desktop engine was upgraded? 2. In current situation, what can we do to install the SQL server 2005 as a default instance. Is there way to rename the desktop engine to a named instance? How Can I Install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition's Management Studio On A Desktop Machine?
I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Prof Edition on a Vista machine and SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a Windows 2000 server. They will be used as a development environment for us. As we need to management the SQL Server 2005, we would like to install the 2005 Developer SSMS on the Vista machine such that we can manage the SQL Server 2005 developer instance installed on that Win2k machine. However, the system does not allow us to do it. We have the express edition autoamtically installed while we installed the Vistual Studio. Is there any workaround that i can still install the 2005 developer SSMS without uninstall the sql server 2005 Xpress version? Or, I have to uninstall the Xpress version before i can install the 2005 developer's SSMS? Please help!

I am unable to install Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007. I sought help in the BCM forum, but the developer who I spoke with came to the conclusion that it is a SQL Server Express problem that I am experiencing, and so he recommended that I come here for help. I am running on Vista Ultimate. Unable To Install Sql Server Express After Removing The Previous Installation
I installed sql server express 1st time successfully. But later I found that there's no solution explorer(there's no item under file-new called Project). To reinstall, I removed all the components completely,including engine,msee,bol,sampledb. But could not install the engine again. I've downloaded the installation files several times and tried both sqlexpr32.exe and sqlexpr_adv.exe. Installing SQL Server Express 2005 Via Remote Desktop
Hi, Does anyone know if it's at all possible to install SQL Server Express 2005 over a Remote Desktop on a Windows XP machine. I know there are problems running SQL over Remote Desktop, in that it won't start up a User Instance, but I wasn't sure if we can install over Remote Desktop. Unable To Connect To SSIS Or SSRS On SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server Via Desktop Connection
Hi, I€™ve developed a BI system using the SQL Server 2005 Developer€™s Edition. SSAS, SSIS and SSRS have been added to a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server in preparation for delivering the developed database to this live environment. So I am able to connect directly to the Database Engine, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS successfully from the actual SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition box which is sat on a Windows 2003 Server operating system. However when I launch SQL Server Management Studio from a desk top PC which is connected to the SQL Server Standard Edition box I can€™t connect to either SSIS or SSRS, however I can connect to the Database Engine and it also seems that I can connect to SSAS OK. I am using Windows Authentication where the I used a SQL Server account which exists with €śsysadmin€? permissions and this SQL Server account has the same login name as the Windows Server 2003 desktop login. What do I do next please?

Unable To Install SQL Server 2005
i have a DVD set of Visual Studio 2005 Professional Addition. I copy all of its components on my hard disk and then start downloading Visual Studio 2005 Professional Addition from the folder that i have copied on my hard disk. The installation process installs every think visual studio, .net framework 2.0, parser etc but when it reached to insatll SQL Server 2005 , it displays an error "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 setup has encountered an error and will end" and The following components falied to install " Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition x86". I then uninstall the whole visual studio using autorun and then reinstall it, but the problem remain there. Then i search this issue on net and i found an article according to which, i uninstall visual studio again but now this time i manually uninstall the components by folowing the sequence which is given in the that article. Then i delete all the folders and files from the temp folder and again install the visual studio but the problem still exists. I dun know why it is not installing. Please, if anybody knows the solution, reply me soon. Thanks ... and sorry for my english.

Unable To Install SQL Server 2005 Standard
I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Standard, on my personal PC which isn't on a network, there are no user accounts besides myself, I'm signed-on as admin. The logs from C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOG, all appear successful, although there are many more logs. When I look under Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services, I see no service at all for SQL Server. I attempted to use the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration Tool, which told me no instances of the data-base had been loaded. I must admit, the install went a bit too fast for me to believe it was correct. I was never even asked for the product-key. This particular copy, was bundled with Visual Studio 2005 Pro, which was given to me by someone who attended a Microsoft seminar/demo of some sort. I've never used SQL Server before, and know nothing about it, so I hope I'm posting in the right forum. Any help would be appreciated, and I can provide listings of any log-file if needed. Thanxxxxxxxxxx in advance for any replies. I'm studying for MCTS, and am trying to work through ADO.Net Step by Step.

Unable To Install SQL Server 2005 After BETA
I have completed the uninstallation instructions for my beta versions of SQLExpress (repeatedly). I have used the manual unistall procedures also. I have physically removed the SqlServer directory from the the Program Files directory. The result is the same. This message appears every time I try to to install the MS SQL Advanced package: "SQL Server 2005 setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, Net Framework, or SQL 2005. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL Server 2005 Readme." The detailed instructions are NOT detailed enough. I have uninstalled the .NET 2.0 package and re-installed it. The SERVICES window still lists the SQL Server as present even though it is not started. Any suggestions?

SQL Server 2005 SP2 Install Failed Now Unable To Start
Ran the SP2 locally on a Windows Server 2003 SP1 box that had SQL Server 2005 SP1 install on it. Problem was I ran out of C: drive and it failed in the middle of upgrading the server. I'm unable to start the SQL Server at all now. Is there any way to back this out? Don't think I can reapply any patches since the service is dead. Eventlog now shows: One or more files do not match the primary file of the database. If you are attempting to attach a database, retry the operation with the correct files. If this is an existing database, the file may be corrupted and should be restored from a backup. SQL Server 2005 Rendered Unable To Start Post SP2 Install. Help!
Hi can someone help me please? I browsed through the SP2 install feedback below, but it doesn't quite seem to fit what happened to my install. My .MDF and .LDF files for the system databases are in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSQL.1MSQLData (I presume this is the correct location.) I am the local administrator on this box. I uploaded the .CAB file with all the logs onto www.sendspace.com if it gives you something to go on. The only other thing of note is that it said there were two machines on the network and that I needed to change my machine name in the control panel when I installed. This doesn't seem right, as far as I understand the computer name is unique. The SQL Server runs under the local system account, if that is of any use. Visual Studio 2005 Unable To Connect To SQL Server Express 2005
Hi, I have VS Pro 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005 installed on an XP Pro machine. When using VS 2005, in the 'Server Explorer' window I can see and attach to two SQL Server databases that I have set-up. But if I attempt to access the same databases from withn the 'Solution Explorer' window I get the following dialog box message, " Required Component Missing (Dialog box heading) Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=49251 " I have uninstalled and then reinstalled both VS 2005 and SQL Server Express twice but it has helped. I don't understand why I'm getting this error because all of the server configuration tools and connection utilities seem to work fine but VS say's that SQL Server Express is not installed. I've noticed at least five other posts on the web with this problem with no solutions given. Seems there are MANY people with this particular problem--hint:Microsoft Pay Attention. Help! When installing SP2 for SQL Server 2005 I get this error message: MSI (s) (E0!68) [09:02:25:673]: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) -- Error 29512. SQL Server Setup was unable add user OUR-LAN-DOMAINOUR-SERVICE-ACCOUNT to local group OUR-LAN-DOMAINSQLServer2005SQLAgentUser$OUR-DATABASE-SERVER-NAME$MSSQLSERVER. The error message seems to contradict itself: it says "local group" which seems to me to mean the group on the database server itself YET the group name is prefixed with our LAN domain name. So which one is it? Also, I'm not sure if this message means there is a problem in Active Directory or in the security model of SQL Server itself. I don't think it means SQL Server itself because I don't think SQL Server has groups... it only has Roles, right? We looked in Active Directory and the user above does indeed exist in the domain-level group mentioned. Please help!

During setup I have selected all the native client components i.e. Management Studio, Business Intelligense Studio. But after the install I am not able to see them under All Programs-> Microsoft SQL Server 2005. On further searching I have come across this link http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=142941 First of all, there is no sqlrun_tools.msi under setup folder of the dvd. And also when I tried to change component from Add/Remove programs and following the instructions as specified on clicking Change Installed components all that I see are: Connectivity Components and Software Development kit. Could someone tell me how can I install Management Studio/ Business Intelligence Studio seperately? I don't want to go through the process of re-installation.

Windows XP upgrade from MSDE to SQL Express 2005, also upgrade from Outlook BCM 03 to Outloot BCM 07 I am leaving out the SMSMLBIZ instance that is used by Outlook BCM in the discussion below because it should be there as a SQL 2005 instance.. I upgrade from MSDE to SQL Express 2005 using the downloaded SQLEXPR32.EXE €¦ In computer Management Dialog, under services, it shows the following SQL Instances, none of which will start and I have disabled all of them. I cannot reinstall a new instance (I get the SQLWriter.MSI missing message). I would like to remove SQL Express 2005 and start over (leaving the BCM). This is nuts. I have spent days, I have gone though every step of every article I could find. This program's install/uninstall is junk. It is hard for me to imagine MS putting this out in such a non-working state. I've never used SQL Server before. I installed VB 2005 Express (I've been working with VB since I was 16), and SQL Server 2005 Express. I installed the server with all the default settings and created a small database to handle customer information (a remake of some Access and Oracle databases I've made before). I'm told, however, each time I try to connect to the database via VB, that SQL Server isn't accepting remote connections... Remote? It's on a local computer. So is VB...what is going on here? Hi, I have installed SQL Server 2005 express edition on Windows 2003 Server, but i am unable to make a connection using sqlcmd -S <servnameinstancename> -U <loginID> -P <pwd> -d <dbname> but i am able to make the connection using sqlcmd -S <servnameinstancename>,<portnumber> -U <loginID> -P <pwd> -d <dbname> What could be the possible reason for this and how can i configure sql server 2005 express edition to make connections without specifying any portnumber in the connection string. MS SQL Server Desktop Install Problem
I am having a problem with installation of the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop database software on a notebook with Windows98 installed. The pre-requisites only require that IE 4.01 be installed with SP1 applied. The notebook has IE version 4.72 with SP1 applied. During the install, the program displays a message stating "Connecting to Server". The program does not continue but hangs at this phase of the install program. I am trying to add a SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Database to my Web Site. But I am unablr to do so. I am getting the following error: {"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"} I am unable to understand what exactly is the problem. Pls Help me out. Thanx In Advance.
