Unable To Install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition On Vista
Hi,
Past one week I have been struggling to install SQL server express edition on my laptop which is preinstalled with Vista Basic. After it commences installation, it says the .net 2.0 on the system in corrupted.
Please let me know how to proceed ASAP... i have a project due for submission this week!

I have tried this several times and each time get the same result. I even installed Visual Studio 2008 beta 2 - everything but SQL Server Express installed fine. Unable To Install SQL Server Express 2005 Sp2 On Vista Ultimate
I have been trying to install BCM 07 and Accounting Pro 07 for a couple days now with the same SQL Server Express eroor. I've also attempted to install SQL Express sp2 alone to no avail either. Unable To Install SQL Server 2005 Express On A Vista Home Premium O/S
I have tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express several times with no success. I have followed the instructions to remove all SQL files on the Programs menu. Then, when I attempt to install it again, it only goes as far as the database where it stops and gives the error message: SQL Server cannot write system databases to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData because it contains files from a previous installation. To continue, move the databases from the specified folder, or specify a different installation folder. Then run SQL Server Setup again. It doesn't give options and I can only abort the installation. Does anyone have a remedy for a technologically challenged person? Thank you. George

I am unable to install Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007. I sought help in the BCM forum, but the developer who I spoke with came to the conclusion that it is a SQL Server Express problem that I am experiencing, and so he recommended that I come here for help. Can You Install SQL Server 2005 On Vista Ultimate Edition?
Ive been told that you cant install SQL Server 2000/2005 on anything but a server OS (such as Windows Server 2003). How are people installing this into vista then as Longhorn is far from being released? When i try and install it into Ultimate, i only get the option to install client tools... which makes sense as the machine isnt a server. Surely people can install SQL Server 2005 in Vista though? All of the features are green ticked except the OS which has a compatabilty warning (which i expected). I feel im missing something really simple here.... Cheers Rob Macnair

Steps To Install 64 Bit Sql Server 2005 Standard Edition In Windows Vista 64 Ultimate
Hi I have just take my system back to the factory defaults after some unsuccessful attempts to install 64 bit and 32 bit sql server on my notebook. I am looking to use either 32 or 64 bit (I have disks for both) and I would like to get a step by step guide that will help me through the process. I tried an install of the 64 bit version, applied SP2, and it went smoothly but the report services browser didn't work. I tried to change some IIS settings but I didnt document what I changed so i was unable to undo the changes that i made when these didnt work. I tried several combinations of things but then decided that a clean install on a clean system was the best option. I need the SQL engine , reporting services, analysis services - and possibly integration services - i am not sure if i need notification services (dont know what it does anyway!) I also have vs2005 - should i install that first or after sql server 2005 SP2? Thanks Doug

Hi, Im encountering yet another problem in Vista(Vista Home Premium). I have turned on all IIS features from control panel. When I open http://localhost it gives the error HTTP Error 404.4 - Not Found Description: The resource you are looking for does not have a handler associated with it How should i resolve this? Also, when I try to install SQL server 2005 express edition, it gives the warning that IIS is not installed, though I have installed all the features and it is running. SQL SERVER 2005 EXPRESS / Vista - Business Edition Issue
Good day all, I wanted to get some feedback on what I think may be an issue between SQL Server 2005 Express and Vista. Specifically I use Vista Business edition and I was trying to execute the same bit of code on two different machines with the same exact database. The ONLY difference was Vista. See code below...what I doing in XP Professional SP2 was inserting an image into a table. This worked well on XP but the same code failed to actually insert the image. A row was created in 'myTable' but not binary data from the image insert. Unable To Re-install SQL Server 2005 Express And Also SQL Express Toolkit
Hi, I had some issues on my server and had to uninstall .Net Framework 2.0, SQL Server 2005 Express, and SQL Express Toolkit. I installed SQL Server 2005 Express and it seemed to be ok. Then my problems all started when I tried to install SQL Express Toolkit because I needed to install DTS Wizard again, and it errors out and wouldn't let me install it. So I uninstalled everything that's listed above again. I then tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express again, and on the second from last screen, while its listing all the components and configuring them, I get the following error as it's configuring the last component... which was the SQL Server Database Services. TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup ----------------------------------------------------------- The SQL Server service failed to start. Hi, I have installed SQL Server 2005 express edition on Windows 2003 Server, but i am unable to make a connection using sqlcmd -S <servnameinstancename> -U <loginID> -P <pwd> -d <dbname> but i am able to make the connection using sqlcmd -S <servnameinstancename>,<portnumber> -U <loginID> -P <pwd> -d <dbname> What could be the possible reason for this and how can i configure sql server 2005 express edition to make connections without specifying any portnumber in the connection string. SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Won't Install
I've read through every thread I can find, but can't find an answer for this. The installation gets all the way to the end, and then stops. I receive the following error message: "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup has encountered a problem and will end..." I've tried all the troubleshooting tips. I never had any of the beta or prior versions installed, so I'm not sure what the hangup is. Can anyone please help me with this? Charlie

Cant Install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
I have been through many Forums and newsgroups but I just end up in a loop. Im trying to install the basic Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Without advanced services, toolkit and management studio. First of all it incorrectly says I do not have the recommended specifications but I cant work out what I am missing. I have 20GB free HDD space. 1.2Ghz CPU, 512MB RAM, Windows XP Pro SP2. This meets the Minimum and Recommended. All the other system checks have green ticks so I just igore the warning about recommended specs and continue to install. The options I change from the default settings are: 'Default Instance', Built in system account: Local Service, 'Mixed mode' with a password. It installs the following parts successfully: MSXML6 SQL Setup support files SQL native Client SQL VSS Writer As soon as it tries to install 'SQL server Database Services' it attempts to start MSSQLSERVER but fails. I try to start it manually and again it fails. I notice that the Service is looking for the file: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLBinnsqlservr.exe -sMSSQLSERVER" However the only 2 folders that exist in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server" are "90" and "80", the "MSSQL" folder doesnt even exist. I've been watching some lessons and I'm trying to use some SQL features of Visual Studio EE. Whenever I try to create a SQL item in my project list, I get the following error message box: Connections to SQL server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component, or download from the URL:... I got the SQL 2005 Express from MS' website, only to get this during (everything set to default) installation: An instance with the same name is already installed on this computer. By default, from server explorer Ionly acces data base files of the local machine. I dont have acces to remote servers. I used the file explorer and opened the mdf file on remote server. I tried to acces the mdf file remotely but i got excepcion. I recently (yesterday) installed a fresh copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 2 applied. I proceeded with Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions installation straight away. But I cannot install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86. I choose to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86 component along with every component of visual studio but it simply would not install. In the end, after the installation of each complete is complete, I simply get an error message saying that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86 failed to install. What is the problem?

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition onto my PC on the D: drive. I do not have write privelleges to the C Drive. All I want to do is point the executable to install to another drive like D: or E: etc. Is this possible with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition setup executable file. Just to let you know I have changed the template.ini file in the source folder to reflect the following (I tried both with and without quotes) INSTALLSQLDIR="D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server" And then using command prompt I did the following: "start /wait setup.exe /qn myini.ini" and it still doesn't work.

I have used the tool at this URL http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/uninstall/#Tool and *cannot* get SQL Server 2005 Tools Express Edition CTP to uninstall. I get the following dialog box: "The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore. The action is Write_CommitFlag. The error is:Unable to write property into cache flagCommit Unable to write property into cache: "flagCommit" XmlRW Error: Failure loading xmlrw.dll CheckAllProcedures() returned 2." Any ideas as to how I can work around this ?

Cannot Install Sqlserver 2005 Developer Edition With Vista Ultimate
Currently I am just trying to completely remove all Vista Ultimate's knowledge of installed instances of SQLServer 2005 Developer edition. I cannot do this for some reason. This all began when I tried to install SQLServer 2005 and it installed but I could not connect to it. Now I have two installed instances that I cannot access, after removing all SQL programs from the Programs and Features icon in the control panel. I tried running "WIndows Installer CleanUp Utility" as I read in a thread on this forum. This did not help. After going thru and removing all SQLServer programs using the "programs and features" icon in control panel... The installation process shows two installed instances of SQLServer 2005. 1) How can I completely erase all Vista Ultimate's knowledge of any SQLServer 2005 install and start over? I have downloaded SQLServer 2005 SP 2, and run it, but clearly what I should do, and what Microsoft has asked me to do are not working... 2) What should I be doing to install SQLServer 2005 Developer Edition successfully? Vista X64 Ultimate + SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition (fresh Install)
Hi Everyone, I was playing around with SQL2k5 Express, but decided to download Enterprise using my MSDN subscription. I installed it, but none of the services are running. I don't understand why? I've checked the requirments and I notice that Vista x64 is not on the list for compatible OS's. SQL Server 2005 full version is installed on a server computer. I installed MS VS 2005 Express edition on the server. As VS 2005 Express edition can only access to SQL Server 2005 Express edition, so a SQL Server 2005 Express edition has to be installed on the server. I get the following error message each time I try to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2: Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online. This problem is described in: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920201 and each of the IIS 7 components specified in this article have been installed. When I continue with: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934162, the script 'adsutil.vbs' cannot be executed because it does not exist anywhere on my drive. My question is, what is the 'adsutil.vbs' script and how do I get a hold of it? Are these contortions really necessary to get SQL server working or has MS provided a patch for this nasty problem? I tried to install 'SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services'. First, I uninstalled the old version thru Add/Delete Programs in the Control Panel. My first problem was I didn't have IIS installed on my computer, but, I could not find it in the downloads section. Then the installation aborted because old version databases were in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData. But, it would not let me delete them, saying that they were being used, even though nothing was running at the time that I tried to delete them.

I am continually prompted to download & install this SP by the windows update utility but it always fails to install it. I have XP SP2. No error msg is provided. I do not have ACT! installed. I do have Oracle 10g Expr. Ed installed. Competitive jealousy? Setup Issue: Unable To Install SQL Server 2005 Express On Windows 2003 Server SP2
Hello Experts, I have been unable to install SQL Express 2005 Server on my Windows 2003 Server (with SP2 installed). I keep getting an error message saying that Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is not installed. Click here for image So, I downloaded Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe) but whenever I try to install it I get an error message saying that "the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying" and that there is no need to install the update and it stops there. Click here for image Is there a workaround to this? How can I get Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 installed? I tried going to the Windows Update site, I already have everything installed and I even started the Windows Installer service manually. Has anyone else experienced this? How can I get SQL Server 2005 Express installed if not how can I install SQL Server 2000 on tihs machine? The only reason I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 is because wanted to try it so I uninstalled SQL Server 2000 now I can no longer install SQL Server 2000 again because it won't let me because of the SP2 patch. Help! :(
