Unable To Re-install SQL Server 2005 Express And Also SQL Express Toolkit
Hi,
I had some issues on my server and had to uninstall .Net Framework 2.0, SQL Server 2005 Express, and SQL Express Toolkit. I installed SQL Server 2005 Express and it seemed to be ok.
Then my problems all started when I tried to install SQL Express Toolkit because I needed to install DTS Wizard again, and it errors out and wouldn't let me install it. So I uninstalled everything that's listed above again.
I then tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express again, and on the second from last screen, while its listing all the components and configuring them, I get the following error as it's configuring the last component... which was the SQL Server Database Services.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.

Hi support I have a copy of Visual studio 2008, SQL Express advanced 2005 sp2 and i want to install SQL Express 2005 toolkit 2005. I have run the install several times and each time the installer thinks i've already installed the software and refers me back to add/remove to modify the install. According to my registry i have installed the toolkit ..90/tools/setup/editiontype ( = Express Edition Toolkit) but the Business Intelligence Development Studio options haven't installed along with all the other options offered under the toolkit sp2, as i can't see them as an option to select from the start/all programs/microsoft sql server 2005. Also for some reason there is no options to uninstall the toolkit, which again means i have no way of reinstalling the software. Please help Damian

I have been trying to install BCM 07 and Accounting Pro 07 for a couple days now with the same SQL Server Express eroor. I've also attempted to install SQL Express sp2 alone to no avail either. I have tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express several times with no success. I have followed the instructions to remove all SQL files on the Programs menu. Then, when I attempt to install it again, it only goes as far as the database where it stops and gives the error message: SQL Server cannot write system databases to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData because it contains files from a previous installation. To continue, move the databases from the specified folder, or specify a different installation folder. Then run SQL Server Setup again. It doesn't give options and I can only abort the installation. Does anyone have a remedy for a technologically challenged person? Thank you. George

Hello Experts, I have been unable to install SQL Express 2005 Server on my Windows 2003 Server (with SP2 installed). Is The SQL Server 2005 Express Toolkit Download Corrupt?
I have now tried to download this several times and each time I get a "Extraction failed | File is corrupt" dialog midway through the extraction. Each time it is corrupt in the same place, UNTIL I re-download it, when it is corrupt in a different place! I've tried using the -x switch to extract to different disks. No difference there - so not a disk error. I could download and extract "SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE" fine. The forums seem to offer no hope here either.

Hi, I had previously installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition (and later, SQl Server Management studio express). Recently, I wanted to try out 'Reporting services' and downloaded 'SQL server 2005 express Toolkit'. After installation, I have a new program group 'Visual studio 2005' . I started that with 'New Report Project'. I tried to attach an existing database (to be precise, in 'connection string' part) , but it is giving error saying 'An error has occured while establishing connection to Server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005 (???) ,..... may be caused the fact that under default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections ' I tried my existing SQL Server 2005 express edition Surface Area Configuration and it is configured for accepting remote connection using both TCP/IP & named pipes. Now, I have following doubts: 1. Do I have to download & install SQL Server 2005 Express edition wiht Advanced options, if I wish to use Reporting services or I can use the existing SS2005EE along with Toolkit services? 2. I have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit installed but there is something from with the installation since every time that I try and create a Report Server Project It gives me error Could not load file or assembly "Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer, Version 9.0.242.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The system cannopt find the file spesified. How can I reinstall it or repair the installation so it will work. I have uninstalled every SQL2000 component in Add Remove Programs and reinstalled them. I am unable to install Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007. I sought help in the BCM forum, but the developer who I spoke with came to the conclusion that it is a SQL Server Express problem that I am experiencing, and so he recommended that I come here for help. I am running on Vista Ultimate. Microsoft Sql Express 2005 Edition Toolkit
I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. I have also downloaded the Sql Server Express toolkit from the Microsoft site in order to get access to the server's Reporting Services. The toolkit, according to Microsoft, should have included a cut-down version of the Business Intelligence Development Studio. The problem is that after downloding and installing I cant find Business Intelligence development Studio. The shortcut in the start menu brings me to Visual Studio 2005 and not to Business Intelligence Development Studio. Am I missing something?

I installed sql server express 1st time successfully. But later I found that there's no solution explorer(there's no item under file-new called Project). To reinstall, I removed all the components completely,including engine,msee,bol,sampledb. But could not install the engine again. I've downloaded the installation files several times and tried both sqlexpr32.exe and sqlexpr_adv.exe. I have windows XP box, installed MS Visual Studio 2005 without SQL 2005 express.After this I have installed SQL 2005 Express edition and then SQL 2005 client toolkit. Now when I open "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio", it gives message missing shortcut and searches for devenv.exe file. That is the problem, I dont know where is problem..?? Can't Start SS Business Intelligence Installed From SS 2005 Express Edition Toolkit
I downloaded and installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit. Installs completed successfully, and I can launch the SS Management Studio, but when I launch SS Business Intelligence Development Studio, I get message saying "Windows is searching for devenv.exe". When I search for this file I don't find it on my hard drive. I thought I'd reinstall the SS Express Edition Toolkit, but I can't find this application in the Control Panel Installed Programs list, so I can't uninstall it. Any ideas as to how I can get SS Business Intelligence Studio working?

Install SQL Server 2005 Exp With ToolKit
Hi, I would like to have SQL Server 2005 Express with the most features as possibles. It seems to be correct about 'AdvancedEdition' but, when I installed the "ToolkitEdition", in order to get "Business Intelligence Development Studio", I was not able to open this option. The file 'devenv.exe' is missed. Do you have some procedure and links to get best set up with theses features for SQL Server 2005 Express? Thanks.

Visual Studio 2005 Unable To Connect To SQL Server Express 2005
Hi, I have VS Pro 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005 installed on an XP Pro machine. When using VS 2005, in the 'Server Explorer' window I can see and attach to two SQL Server databases that I have set-up. But if I attempt to access the same databases from withn the 'Solution Explorer' window I get the following dialog box message, " Required Component Missing (Dialog box heading) Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=49251 " I have uninstalled and then reinstalled both VS 2005 and SQL Server Express twice but it has helped. I don't understand why I'm getting this error because all of the server configuration tools and connection utilities seem to work fine but VS say's that SQL Server Express is not installed. Thanks, CLN P.S. I had another application that required MSDE 2000A to be installed. When I removed the other application I also removed MSDE 2000A and that's when the problem began.

Hi, I have installed SQL Server 2005 express edition on Windows 2003 Server, but i am unable to make a connection using sqlcmd -S <servnameinstancename> -U <loginID> -P <pwd> -d <dbname> but i am able to make the connection using sqlcmd -S <servnameinstancename>,<portnumber> -U <loginID> -P <pwd> -d <dbname> What could be the possible reason for this and how can i configure sql server 2005 express edition to make connections without specifying any portnumber in the connection string. Can't Install SQL Server Express 2005
I get the fault message Error 29503 during the installation when the installation program wan't to start the SQL server Nothing I do can get the installation to pass this point. Cannot Install SQL Server 2005 Express
Whole installation works fine until it comes to "Selected components are being configured" and there it shows: MSXML6 - Setup FAILED. refer to the Setup log for details. SQL Setup support files - Setup FINISHED. SQL Native Client - Setup FINISHED. SQL VSS Writter - - Setup FINISHED. SQL Server Database Services - Setup FAILED. refer to the Setup log for details And that's it. I cannot install SQL Server 2005 express. I guess the problem is MSXML6 it cannot install because there is a newer version already there but I cannot uninstall it. How can I solve this problem ?? Thanks.

Sql Server Express Install 2005
I'm trying to install sql server 2005 and to be honest, I've had an absolute gutful. I All i want to do is use it to develop my asp.net applications but everytime i set a profile variable or access the "security" tab in my asp.net web site administration tool, I get sql errors. I've googled the *** out of my issue and have come to no helpful conclusion. I've been through the surface configuration to 'allow remote connections' even though i'm ON THE LOCAL MACHINE and it still errors and tells me its not accepting remote connections. I've formatted windows to make sure, and tried again- same error, not to mention the frustration of having to manually extract the contents of the .exe file that i downloaded (From no other then microsoft.com). will somebody please shed some light on this piece of junk program so i can do my development without tearing my hair out.

SQL Server Express 2005 CTP Not Install In WinXP SP2
The setup run normally, when come in the moment of run the server I receive a error message and I must cancel the setup. I try all the combinations: uninstall SQL Server 2000, Netframework 2.0 Beta 2 and reinstall only Netframework Beta 2 and so on. The MSDTC had a problem and I reinstall but nothing this solve the problem. I need help!
