Urgent - Analysis Service Install On An Existing Sql 2005 Cluster - Please Help
Hi,
I am having an existing sql 2005 cluster on an active passive cluster. I need to add analysis service to this as a new component. I am having enough space available in the cluster disks. Following are my queries,
1) do i need a new virtual ip and virtual server name for the analysis services ?
2) do i need a seperate cluster resource group for analysis services with an additional disk added ?
Regards
Nimesh

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1 (KB 913090) Cluster Install
I have the initial MSSQL 2005 install on a two-node cluster in place with no production db's moved over, basically prepping it for sp_attach further down the road. I proceeded with applying SP1 on the primary node. I moved the cluster over to the secondary node and checked for any critical windows updates and it reported back that the SQL 2005 SP1 was still required. According to what I have read online the SP1 update on the primary node would have been applied to all nodes. Is this a false report? What harm if any would be if I applied SQL 2005 SP1 again on the secondary node. TIA. Mark

Can I Install A Enterprise Version Analysis Service On A Standard Version Of SQL 2005 Server?
Hi all, Since some analysis services features are only available in Enterprise version , I have to upgrade my SQL 2005 server from standard edition to enterpise edition. So I uninstall originial standard version of analysis service and install a Enterprise version. However, the analysis service is still a standard version after installation. Is it possible to keep data engine as standard version and install a enterprise version of analysis service? Thank you very much Tony

How To Install SS2005 On New Nodes In Existing Cluster For Multiple Instances ???
Hi There I have found no real documentation on this, so any links would be greatly appreciated. We have an existing 2 node active active cluster. A default and and named instance SS2005 Enterprise Edition are installed on the cluster. Recently we acquired new hardware, 2 servers, which we added to the cluster so we now have a 4 node cluster. The 2 new nodes have OS etc installed. Now i have installed sql on a new multi node cluster, i have upgraded sql server in an existing cluster BUT i have never installed sql on an existing cluster for new nodes for multiple instances. Now i presume you simply run the install on one of the new nodes, do this for a default instance, selecting both 2 new nodes to installl on. And do this again for the named instance. But in the past I have never been promoted for which nodes to install sql on, it simply does all the nodes BUT i do not want this. And how will the cluster know where the binary files are for each instance on the new nodes? In a nutshell, how do i install sql server 2005 for 2 new nodes in an existing 4 node cluster for multiple instances ? Thanx

Unable To Install Analysis Service SP3
Hi, I was facing problems applying SP3 for Analysis Services so I removed it and then re-installed. I then tried to apply SP3 but I am still getting v8.00.382 for AS (which represents SP1). I have tried a couple of things but it seems that SP3 is just not getting applied (for Analysis Services). Anyone any clues? Thanks.

SQL 2005 Standard To Enterprise Edition Upgrade On Existing Three-node Cluster
Current set-up: three node cluster running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 with two instances of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition SP2. Virtual node 1: Standard Edition, default instance, Database Engine only Virtual node 2: Standard Edition, named instance, Database Engine, Analysis Services and Integration Services Physical node A: Prefered node for virtual node 1 Physical node B: Failover node for both virtual node 1 and 2 (thus having two installations of Standard Edition) Physical node C: Prefered node for virtual node 2 We started off with this set-up because there was no need for Enterprise features, and SQL 2005 supports failover clustering with two nodes in Standard Edition. Saved a bundle of cash, so everybody's happy. Now we need to run a solution on virtual node 2 that requires Enterprise features in Analysis and Integration Services, so an edition upgrade is required on virtual node 2. I have done some research and found several edition upgrade examples, but none that match the above scenario. We are running production on these machines, so I can't risk experimenting with command line options, I have to be right the first time. Is it possible to mix two editions of SQL Server 2005 in one cluster? Can I upgrade virtual node 2 to Enterprise but leave virtual node 1 at Standard? What procedure do I have to follow to upgrade all three components of virtual node 2 to Enterprise Edition on both physical node B and C? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Adding 'unaware' SQL Server 2005 Components To Existing Windows 2003 Cluster
This is a fresh install of SQL Server 2005 (64bit) on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64bit OS. The Cluster has been built and SQL 2005 has been installed (Database Engine(clustered), Analysis Server(clustered), Notification Server, Integration Server, Reporting Services). SQL 2005 SP2 has been installed. Now, I want to install Notification Server, Integration Server and Reporting Services on the second node for high availability. When I select 'Install New Components' from Add/Remove Programs, the System Configuation Checker tells me theres a version difference and to: To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter. I'm using the same binaries as the original install. Could this be a result of installing SQL 2005 SP2? Can someone help me out with this. I'd prefer using the setup interface instead of a command line script.

How To Add Reporting Service On An Existing SQL Server 2005 SP2

When I go through the setup I choose nothing but Reporting Services, which means everything else has a red X on it. Will setup un-install my existing SQL Server 2005 environment? I need Reporting Services, but I do not want to remove my existing environment. Will this happen? Dave

SQL 2005 SP1 Install In A/A Cluster
Okay, it's a good thing no one from M$ is in the immediate (physical) vicinity... I'm doing some preliminary testing on SQL 2005 in an Active/Active Cluster. I'm using Windows 2003 Enterprise, on a 2-node cluster using SCSI storage. I installed a default instance and patched it to SP1. Then I installed a second (named) instance and attempted to patch it. That's where the fun began. Read KB 918357 (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918357). Buried in the log files (good luck finding them) on the passive node was the error message "Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file". You have to apply the instructions outlined in the previous KB to BOTH nodes in order to get SP1 to install. Alternatively, I suppose you could install SP1 on both instances at the same time, but if you add another instance into your cluster, you'd better watch out! Also, another gotcha was that I had the default instance turned off during the SP1 installation. I had simply off lined the group (including the disks) instead of offlining the SQL Resource. Buried in the log files on the passive node was an error message indicating that the installer could not find the owner for the S: drive (the data drive for the default instance). Why the installer should CARE who owns the S: drive when it shouldn't be doing anything with it, I don't know. What a total PITA!!!! I am going to go have a beer...or two...or three...... Regards, hmscott BTW, the log files for the SP install are in C:WindowsHotfixSQL9. The log files for the base install are in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Bootstrap

$#@$#%! SQL 2005 Cluster Install!
I have YET to have a 100% CLEAN install of SQL 2005 in a clustered environment. SQL 2005 Std. was not so bad, I think I finally managed a 99% clean install (no script errors on patches) on the third try. SQL 2005 EE keeps erroring off on 2153 patch install. The error logs are no help at all; they simply stop logging activity at about the point that the error occurs. For a premier product, this installation SUCKS. Whooo. Okay. I feel better. Here's my situation: 4-node Cluster (Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition), SP1 SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition Process: Install OS Patch OS to SP1 Cluster OS on SAN Configure Cluster Groups (DBC01, DBC02, DBC03) with cluster disks Configure MSDTC (network access, configure cluster resources) Start SQL Installation Install RTM Binaries on Node 1 for Default Instance Install Workstation and non-cluster components on remaining nodes Install RTM Binaries on Node 2 for Named Instance Reboot all nodes Install SP1 for all instances from node 1 Install SP1 for all local services/applications for all other nodes While attempting to install the 2153 SQL patch/hotfix, the process will either: Hang while waiting for the first passive node for the default instance; or Crash immediately with no error messages in the logs. This is no nearly detailed enough, I know. I'm missing error messages and more. It's snowing outside and I have to get home. I just think that the installation for this product in a clustered environment is very unstraightforward at best, and at worst is a real liability to an organization since it's practically impossible to get it clean the first time through. Regards, hmscott

SQL 2005 SP2 Cluster Install
When you try to re-apply SP2 for SQL 2005 on node added to cluster it continously fails? Only way to apply SP2 is to shut down original node(with SP2 allready applied) and then apply SP2 and hotfixes on additional node! I would like to see some reply from SQL support team for this 'issue'. Is this normal? This bring many issues when you have more than one sql on 2 node cluster....etc any explanation is appreciated rgds Sinisa

2005 Cluster Install Issue
Hello I am having a problem installing the first instance in our two node cluster. We're running 64-bit 2003. I'm trying to install the database engine and client tools only, so of course I get the IIS warning for both nodes. This is expected because I don't want Reporting Services. So the install should still work. However, I'm also getting the ASP.net registration message on only one node. "Failed to find the ASP.Net Version Registration with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)." I suspect that I should be getting the error on both nodes because I don't have IIS installed on either node. But again, I only get a warning for one node. This is probably the cause of my failure because it sees the nodes as being out of sync. I'm not sure how to correct this though when it appears that the nodes are exactly the same. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

SQL Server 2005 SP2 Install Failing On Cluster
I'm attempting to install SP2 on a 2 node cluster and am running into problems when it attempts to authenticate on the passive node. I'm getting a request for remote user authentication asking for ID, password and domain. I enter that information, but get an authentication failed message. Everything appears fine on the active node, the instance is found, the test comes back successful, but when I click next, this dialog pops up. I'm a domain administrator and have tried the domain administrator account and password - no luck. SQL 2005 Failover Cluster Install Failing.
I am tying to set up an SQL 2005, SP1 failover cluster on a new set of hardware. Everytime I try to run the install, I get this error TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup ------------------------------ Setup failed to start on the remote machine. Check the Task scheduler event log on the remote machine. I've gone through this doc (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189910.aspx) and checked all of the applicable cautions: I don't have an antivirus package running. All of the SQL setup pre-checks run fine. I have a SQL Group created, with the shared drive as a resource. NBT is disabled on both heartbeat NIC's. NBT is explicitly enabled on both external NIC's. While I do have DDNS running, just to be safe I've pre-created an A record for my SQL VR. Both nodes are registered in DNS and Setup correctly finds the second node. In the Application event log on the second node (the one failing...), I get MSI Installer 'Install Started' successes (and sometimes I even get "Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Installation completed successfully.") I am running the install as myself, a Domain Admin and am explicitly added to the Administrators group on both servers. Remote Registry is running. Task Scheduler is running. There is plenty of space everywhere. All of the Admin shares are enabled. The node I am running the install from is the owner of all of the cluster groups and resources: Cluster group MSDTC group SQL group This is all that is in my setup log: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.1399.06 ============================== OS Version : Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family, Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 3790) Time : Tue Nov 06 16:45:52 2007 Task did not appear to start on machine: \ERLEW01B: 267013 I'm at a total loss and I'm getting very frustrated... SQL 2005 Failover Cluster Install Failure. Please Help!
Hi we have a two node windows 2003 x64 cluster, each running a SQL 2005 instance. I've added a new node to the cluster and am now trying to set up a new instance of SQL 2005 on the new node (node c). During the install i am getting a failure just after the stage where you choose the features to install. I'm selecting SQL database engine with Failover Cluster. When i click next i get a message which states: "The drive specified cannot be used for program location. Program Files must be installed on a valid local disk available on all cluster nodes. The valid values are" I've read a number of articles about possible causes for this and i've checked all the suggested causes but none of these have made a difference. The cluster disk resource is healthy and can be failed between all nodes in the cluster. No errors are generated. I am using an account which has domain admin rights and I can access all admin shares on all nodes. Some of the articles i have referenced are here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907261 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=913815 http://blogs.technet.com/mbaher/archive/2007/03/23/clustering-sql-2005-and-administrative-shares.aspx I've tried uninstalling all components etc but still i can't get it to work. The next step is rebuilding the server completely so does anyone have any suggestions? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris

SQL 2005 Analysis Service Clustering And Majority Node Set
Hi, I am trying to set up a SQL 2005 analysis server cluster in our two servers, AS02 and AS04. The server cluster is built up on Majority Node Set (MNS). During the installation of the analysis service, I don't see the available cluster groups. In the cluster admin, the cluster is up and running fine. The MNS cluster has no shared disk, and it has two nodes. Any thoughts or suggestions? or is it possible to built the SQL 2005 analysis service cluster with MNS? Thanks.

Sql Server 2005 SP2 Unattended Install For Failover Cluster
Hello All, I am trying the following script to upgrade SQL Server 2005 SP1 to SP2. I have an Active Passive cluster configuration. I have default instances of SQL Server. I am using the following script. start /wait c:1sqlserversp2SQLSERVER2005SP2-KB921896-x86-ENU.exe /allinstances /quiet. The sql server install fails to run. When I used the above command with just start /wait c:1sqlserversp2SQLSERVER2005SP2-KB921896-x86-ENU.exe /quiet still the summary.txt file came with authentication success and that is all. I changed the above script and did start /wait c:1sqlserversp2SQLSERVER2005SP2-KB921896-x86-ENU.exe /instancename=instancename of the cluster This worked, however the install patched the passive node (DB engine, all the cluster unaware components) but failed to patch the DB engine on the Active node. I had to run the SQL Server sp2 install manually but still it did not patch the DB engine on the primary node 1. Can someone please help me with this issue as I want the unattended install to work. so it installs both active and passive node. I will post the final output and also the ADS script to do this as a bonus if this works. I am trying to install multi instances on my server cluster 2003 R2 Sp2. Because of the compatibility issues with my services I need to install both SQL 2000 and 2005. With 2000 I can easily specify the instance and servername. The server name can be the same, but the instance has to be different. Is this true for 2005? I have found so far that for every new instance that you create that you need to have a different virtual server name. How can you utilize the same virtual name and have multi insances servername$instance1 servername$instance2 and so on ThatGuy

SQL 2005 Cluster (Service Account) Removal.
We have a N+1 SQL 2005 x65 SP2 + 3159 cluster which was running fine until the service account which runs Windows cluster and the SQL services was removed as a login from SQL. This was a new setup so the only SQL accounts are (SA) as SA, Windows Domain GROUP's which one group is configured as SA and the cluster account is added to this group. I cannot start SQL service on the cluster now. I've tried logging into one node as the service account which is member of a AD group which has SA rights to SQL as well as my personal account. If anyone knows a way ot fix this without reinstalling I'd appreciate your help.

The problems is that the amount of ram seems not to be enough [it starts to swap when it's reading 240th case) Because of this, i decided to sample my data by extracting 10thousands records randomnly ... it lasts 25minutes (more or less) now, but it's still to much... Does a better way exists? What's the problem: column or row numbers? hope you guys can help me.

And i found i can connect to the sql cluster vitrual ip 10.73.2.224,but can't connect to the node A.So i enable all the network protocols for the instance MSSQLSERVER,and also enable every ip in the TCP/IP protocol, then restart the sqlserver service, but it still doesn't work. Any advise? Thanks a lot.

Connecting From Reporting Services 2005 To Analysis Service 200 Data Cubes
I am having a hard time connecting from Reporting Services 2005 to Analysis Service 200 data cubes. To complicate matters the Analysis Services 2000 machines only allows connections to be made over http i.e. http://199.xxx.xxx.xxx/msolap;prompt=1 When I try to setup the connection with RS 2005, I use a data source of type 'MS Sql Server Analysis Services' and then provide the above url with credentials. I get the following error message : integrated security 'sspi' is not supported for http or https connections Has anyone run into the same scenario and had success connecting to data cubes on Analysis Services 2000? Thanks ~Rohit

SQL 2005 Failover Cluster Installs But Sql Server Service Will Not Start
Hello all, I am intsalling SQL 2005 in an activepassive cluster. The OS is Windows 2003 with SP1. Everything installs OK but the sql server service cannot start afterwards. There are many access errors in the Security Event log - see example below - and numerous "SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. " errors in both the SQL and Application event logs. I have tried installing SQL in both mixed mode and under Windows Authentication and get the same errors. I can install SQL 2005 outside of the cluster on both nodes. Other items of note: This was a SQL 2000 cluster. I uninstalled SQL 2K, the virtual name was changed (IP remained the same) and the DNS entry was updated to reflect the new name. Early in the installation process - 3 or 4 days ago - I got a few errors about the Server Principal Name had to be updated but when I do a setspn -l the both nodes are listed and the entries look fine, though there are no entries for the sql service (MSSQLSvc). Not sure if there should be entries for the virtual name, but there aren't any for either the old or new name. Does the new virtual name need to be added to AD? Here is the security error - Event ID is 560 and it looks like there's a problem with Remote Access and is generated when trying to access either node: Category: Object Access Type: Failure Audit Event_ID: 560 User: NT AuthorityNetwork Service Object Open: Object Server: SC Manager Object Type: SERVICE OBJECT Object Name: RemoteAccess Handle ID: - Operation ID: {0,134558507} Process ID: 1516 Image File Name: C:WINDOWSsystem32services.exe Primary User Name: CM-OHCO-DS006B$ Primary Domain: SWNA Primary Logon ID: (0x0,0x3E7) Client User Name: NETWORK SERVICE Client Domain: NT AUTHORITY Client Logon ID: (0x0,0x3E4) Accesses: Query status of service Privileges: - Restricted Sid Count: 0 Access Mask: 0x4 One other informational message that may be of use - looks like there's a problem with dll's for remote access, though this isn't pertaining to SQL: The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( srmservice ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: srmservice error: 0, Started the agent (srmagent.exe)..

Cannot Install SQL Server 2005 On A Windows 2003 Cluster In Virtual Server 2005
I am trying to install SQL 2005 in a 2-node virtual Windows 2003 cluster. I set the cluster up through Virtual Server 2005 with 2 virtual nodes and one virtual domain. The nodes can connect to each other as well as the physical machine. When I try to install a fresh copy of SQL 2005 on my cluster, I get an error every time. The error stops the installation while checking system configuration after installing prerequisites. SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 - Install
Hi dear Devs! I have a problem and now I am not sure, what I should do. "Microsoft Update" Service warned me, that a new critical update is ready for download. It was the update "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2", I did that. Untill here no problem. The update "SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2" was ready for download too. I have both versions on my computer "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition" and "SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition". The Express Edition came together with the install of "Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite", two days later I have installed the "SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition". Now to my problem, the "SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2" installation failed in one point, the name of it is "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client". The whole installation was not interrupted, it told me only at end of this updating that this point wasn't successful - I saw it in the "Summary.txt". While the install I saw that this "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client" was twice in the list of the Service Pack 2 Update. Both of these points had the identical name. In short words, I saw that the SP2 wanted made an update at "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client" twice. I thought, it is because these two editions of "SQL Server 2005" on my computer. But the result is, that the SP2 couldn't update the second 'Native Client'. I checked it in the 'Software' section in 'Control Panel' and I have really two installations of this "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client". My question is, is that normal, is that because I have two "SQL Server 2005" Editions on my computer? And what can I do with this failed part of the SP2. Can someone help me with this failed 'Native Client' SP2 update? I were really happy, if someone could give me the best solution to fix this problem. Thank you very much for your help and answers Arzu Bazman · «US DEV United Systems»
