Updating Database Date Field Results In Date Value Of 01/01/1900

Jun 18, 2007

Brand new to this, so please bear with me.I'm using the following code fragment to update a datetime field on a SQL Server 2005 database table:cmd.CommandText = "Update Projects Set EntryDate = " & Convert.ToDateTime(txtEntryDate.Text)cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()The result of the update operation is the the database field contains the value "1900-01-01 00:00:00:000".  This probably means that I passed nulls to SQL; however, I see a valid date in the txtEntryDate field on my web form (i.e., "06/18/2007").  I also did a "Response.write" to display the txtEntryDate and it looks Okay.Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?Thanks!Using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express.

Date Of Birth Conversion

Apr 18, 2000

Hello
Can someone help please?
I'm using SQL Server 7 and trying to update a table containing over 250,000 records. I have a character(8) (CHARDOB) field representing dates of birth in the form YYYYMMDD and would like to update my datetime field (DOB) using a simple update command like:-

UPDATE MyTable SET DOB = RIGHT(CHARDOB, 2) + '/' + SUBSTRING(CHARDOB,
5, 2) + '/' + LEFT(CHARDOB, 4)

but get the message:-

Server: Msg 242, Level 16, State 3, Line 1
The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.
The statement has been terminated.

The strange thing is that this works on a small dataset but crashes and burns on larger ones. I have tried different CAST and CONVERT options to transform the data into the correct format. I have tried a stored procedure, DTS transformations and execute SQL task in my DTS package without success.

Any help will be appreciated.

Trigger To Calculate Age From Date Of Birth

Dec 12, 2003

Here's the problem. I want to insert age in years to a table of children, using a MS SQL trigger to calculate age from Date of Birth (DOB). DOB format is mm/dd/yyyy. The DOB input comes from an ASP Insert statement. I've tried to use DateDiff and a user-defined function to calculate age without any success. Also the trigger needs to account for children of less than 1 year old, could be a 0. Age is integer in the children table. Any help is greatly appreciated. The sooner the better. Even a kick start is better than nothing.

Formatting For A Birth Date Field??

Sep 16, 2006

Hello, I'm new to SQL Server, working for a non-profit computerizing alot of its data.I imported a table of people's names, birth dates, etc. into SS2005from Access, and the birth_date was imported as an Access date/timefield, giving it the datetime datatype in SQL.The column values look like:10/14/1964 12:00:00 AMWhere and how do I learn to specify that all fields like this should bein ISO format of yyyy-mm-dd??Do I have to create a new column and put all the dates into it??Should I just convert the data in queries/views??Use a constraint to format the data??I can redo the Access table if necessary, it is only 300-some rows.I tried BOL but it was not helpful...The end users will likely enter mm/dd/yy or mm/dd/yyyy and it will haveto be stored properly in the database table as column/fieldbirth_date...Thank you, Tom

SQL Server Automatically Changing Date 1900-01-01 To 2001-01-01

May 16, 2008

I have a SSIS data flow task that downloads data from an Oracle source which has some real dates and some date values of 0001-01-01 which I am trying to convert to '1900-01-01' using a decode(Date1,'0001-01-01','1900-01-01',Date1). The problem I am having is that when I run the package in Business Intelligence Development Studio on my local machine the date value is stored correctly in the SQL table in a datetime field as 1/1/1900 12:00:00 AM, however when I run the package from the server the field gets saved as 1/1/2001 12:00:00 AM.

I have tried a bunch of ways to work around this issue and the only solution I have found that works it to download into a temp table and then load into the live table. Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing this issue when I run the package from the server?

Matrix Report, Date: 1900-01-01 Wrong!! Suppose To Be Empty, How?

Aug 10, 2007

Hi
I am making a report in Visual Studio. Im making a matrix report. I have made a UNION of 2 tables. One of them has a field called Date and the other one does not. But to make a UNION of these 2 tables so that the results are printed in a Matrix I have to have the same fields aliases at least. So what I did is that in the second table is:
SELECT AS Date
Right?

Now, in the report the first table gives me the dates in a format:
=Format(Fields!Estimated_Close_Date.Value, "yyyy-MM-dd")

But, the second table is it doesnt have a date in that field when I run the report it gives me:
1900-01-01

Something I dont want.

So, how do I make it understand that the second tables date field is suppose to be empty?

To find continuous date, you look at the beginning date in row 1 and end date in row 2, then if no break in dates, row 2 beginning date to row 3 end date, if no break continue until last date There could multiple dates up to 12 which I have to check for "no break" in dates, if break, display beginning date of last continuous date.

SQLS7&&VB6 Date Update Gives Syntax (Not Date Format) Error In Stored Procedure

Jul 20, 2005

Hi,I have a problem with updating a datetime column,When I try to change the Column from VB I get "Incorrect syntax near'942'" returned from [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]'942' is the unique key column valueHowever if I update any other column the syntax is fineThe same blanket update query makes the changes no matter what isupdatedThe problem only happens when I set a unique key on the date field inquestionKey is a composite of an ID, and 2 date fieldsIf I allow duplicates in the index it all works perfectlyI am trying to trap 'Duplicate value in index' (which is working onother non-date columns in other tables)This is driving me nutsAny help would be appreciated

Transact SQL :: Convert Server Date MM/DD/CCYY To Oracle Date Formatted As NUMBER (8,0)

Apr 30, 2015

So I have to build dynamic T-SQL because of a date parameter that will be provided. The Date Parameter will be provided in SSRS in normal MM/DD/CCYY format. So how do I then convert that date to my Oracle format

NUMERIC(8,0) CCYYMMDD?

I tried this...

SET@SQLQuery=@SQLQuery+'ANDMEMBER_SPAN.YMDEFF<='''''+CAST(@AsOfDateASVARCHAR)+''''''+@NewLineChar;
SET@SQLQuery=@SQLQuery+'ANDMEMBER_SPAN.YMDEFF>='''''+CAST(@AsOfDateASVARCHAR)+''''''+@NewLineChar;

but that put it in the format of...

AND
MEMBER_SPAN.YMDEFF<=''2015-04-01''
AND
MEMBER_SPAN.YMDEFF>=''2015-04-01''

Which is close...I think I just need to lose the "-"

This returns the error: Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string

Why would this be? How to cast or convert this so that it will work?
