HELP! Can Index Server 2.0 Be Used On SQL 7.0 With DB In 6.5 Comp. Mode?
We're developing an app that needs to use index server on a SQL 7.0 server. Unfortunately, we just found out that the dba's haven't completed the migration of the database from 6.5 to 7.0 and are therefore using compatibility mode. Does anyone know if it's possible to use Index Server on such a database? Many thanks in advance. If you're feeling REALLY motivated, I'd love an email response. Thanks. BTW, I've been searching MSDN and the net but haven't yet found an answer. Thanks. Spry

EBCDIC With Packed Decimal (Comp 3) To SQL
Hello, I'm trying to load en EBCDIC file with packed decimal in comp 3 into a SQL table. I have been searching information in this forum in several threads and have downloaded a DLL from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0e4bba52-cc52-4d89-8590-cda297ff7fbd&displaylang=en and so far I've been able to get the "UnpackDecimal Data Flow Transformation" to work ... sort of. The problem is that in the destination table the decimals appear allways as NULL. The destination decimal column type in the table is set as VARCHAR (I've tryed to set Integer with no success). Any help on this will be apreciated. If you need more information please ask. Thanks.

Database Mirroring In Comp. Mode 80
Hi Is it possible to use Database Mirroring when running a SQL Server 2005 database in compatibility mode 80 (SQL Server 2000)? If upgrading to SQL Server 2005 we would have to run Principal, Mirror and Witness in mode 80 to support our Transact-SQL Queries. To upgrade our Queries would be equally (or more) costly then to buy new SAN hardware for a cluster in wich case we might well continue running our 2000 cluster. (Buying hardware is slightly more time efficent then rewriting some 1500 queries) Please advise, thank you

Sort Order/Char Set Comp. Between SQL7 SQL 2000
Im setting up a SQL 7 and SQL 2000 server on separate machines. The Character set I'm using on SQL 7 is ISO 8859-1(Latin-1) sort order 52 case insensitive, accent insensitive dictionary sort order. This is specified differently in SQL 2000 and I'd like to get the closest match to it. It appears instead of the default I need to choose the Collations options and I'm confused over the options. I see one which is Dictionary order, case insensitice, accent insensitive, 1252 Character set. Is this the best match and does the 1252 Char set match the 52 sort order in SQL7? Thanks for the help, Chris.

Service Broker Not Working For Restored Databases (SQL 2000 Databases Restored On 2005)
I just restored my SQL server 2000 database on the SQL server 2005. after this i ran the Service broker sample ("Hello World") on this database by changing the AdventureWorks name to the new database name. The "setup.sql" runs fine. When i run the "SendMessage.sql" i was not getting any rows in the output (The message was not getting inserted into the queue). I checked the Service broker is enabled on this databased using the query "select is_broker_enabled from sys.databases where name = 'newdbname' " It was 1. I even tried the ALTER DATABASE SET ENABLE_BROKER. but it didnt work. When i tried the sample on a newly created database it worked fine. Is there any solution to make the restored database to work for service broker. Thanks Prashanth

Size Of SQLServer Databases With Indices
Hello,I am starting to examine using SQLServer instead of Oracle. I wentthrough the SQLServer import utility to copy tables from Oracle intoSQLServer. I then checked the size of the database.I then started to specify indices for the tables. I did not see thedatabase file size grow all that much. I kept on using the shrinkcommand to make sure that wasted space was removed. I even made surethat minimal free space was allowed.I was rather expecting (from experience with Oracle) that there wouldbe a large growth in the database when addind indices. So what did Imiss? Are the indices stored elsewhere and I missed them? DoesSQLServer handle indices differently so they dont' bloat the databasesize? The size of our data in SQLServer is a key factor in whether we movefrom Oracle, so I need to under how indices effect storage size. Thanks for any help.Bart TorbertJoin Bytes!

For e.g. I ran a package which is reading data from sqlserver and later i want to connect to oracle to read the data but without changing the connection manager in the source. Basically, i want to find out from you gurus is about a way to switch between databases without changing the connection managers. OR the only way is to make different sets of packages for oracle / db2 and sqlserver sources ? Thanks, Vipul

Two Databases?
Hi, I have my site set up, but have had difficulty using the data gathered by the aspnet.mdf. I wanted to use the email and username columns from the membership table to send newsletters automatically from the database(but that's a whole other post)I also have my own databse, which will be populated by information gathered from the website, so is currently empty. I'd like to take this opportunity to say that i don't think there's enough information given on how to populate a blank database from a website application. Most tuorials etc are concentrated on retrieving and displaying data, which is all well and good, once you actually have data to play with!I don't need two databases, so can I add tables to the aspnet.mdf ? But then what about relationships etc? I won't damage the current relationships by adding new ones? On the other hand can i copy the aspnet.mdf into my own database, and then assign the relevant permissions to that db? Any help would be greatly appreciated-in language for newbies please! I am relatively new to .asp.net/Visual Basic/ and SQL. It's a steep learning curve!Also....I have used create user wizard, login, password recovery etc within my site, the data is inserted into the correct db tables-without using an sql datasource for some reason...? is that right?I have also created a wizard to collect some more data (because i couldn't work out how to insert the data from the extra steps in create user wizard, into my own database) but when i click submit the data is not inserting into the specified table - (yes the connection string is fine, insert and update has been selected from the advance tab in connections wizard). Would this/could this be because i have assigned a 'finishbutton url'? should i use a Response.Redirect("blahblah.aspx") instead?

From 6.5 Databases To 7.0
Hello, Is it possible to restore a 6.5 database to a 7.0? I backup the entire 6.5 database to a BAK file then tried to restore it to SQL 7.0 but it didn't work. SQL 7.0 states that the disk device is not a valid Microsoft Tape Format backup set. We have an application that was developped long long time ago by a old team and I don't want to upgrade the server. I tried to build a second 6.5 server (new hardware) but I couldn't restore the database as SQL 6.5 states that the server is in single user mode. I don't know how to switch to multi users mode. The database I want to restore is not in DBO or single user mode. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Toan.

CD-R Databases
We use CD-Rs to store our archive SQL Server 7 (SP2) data. Archive databases are created using sp_create_removable and sp_certify_removable stored procedures. They are detached from original server with sp_detach_db stored procedure, and then attached to the archive server with sp_attach_db stored procedure. Executing select statements from that kind of databases we noticed that we can select only 5KB of data at once. With next select we can select previous 5KB of data, plus 5KB of new data, and so on. Question would be: where does this selection limit come from (is there some server or database option that we should adjust), how can we owerride it, and be able to select more than 5KB at once? TIA, S & M

Use 1 Or 2 Databases?
Hello, I’m using VB6 as the client and MS SQL Server 7 as the database. The company I’m consulting for has a proven track record for marketing and getting millions of customers. The parent company would like to create two new companies selling the same product; with 1 million customers per company. How many records can MS SQL Server 7 handle? I’ve been told it can handle 4 terabytes. What does 4 terabytes translate into records? I have already set up an application for company #1. Should I put company #2 in the same MS SQL Server database? Or should I put company #2 in a different database? My VB Application and SQL Server database were designed to handle multiple companies selling the same product. For performance sake; would it be better to separate the databases? Any suggestions? Is anyone currently using MS SQL Server with 2 or more million records? Thanks, Denise

Use CLR UDT Across Databases
I have assembly with several UDT. Let's call one of them - T. I have loaded assembly to 2 different databases. Let€™s call them €“ d1 and d2. I also have function F(), that returns type T. I want to run such statement: use d2 declare @v t = d1.dbo.F(); If type T in d2 lies in schema dbo, then such statement will work without any problems. But if I want to register T not in dbo, but in some other schema (let€™s call it S), I will have an error: Msg 206, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Operand type clash: sysdb.ssma_oracle.Record is incompatible with t1.ssma_oracle.Record Only conditions for CLR UDT, that I found, were: When you use user-defined types across databases, you should remember the following: · The types must have the same name, including the same CLR name, and must be implemented through the same assembly in both databases. Assemblies in two databases are identical if they have the same name, strong name, culture, version, code access permission set, and binary contents. · You must have SELECT and EXECUTE permissions on each user-defined type column referenced in the query. These permissions are checked with regard to the database in which each column is defined. · If a type that is implemented in one assembly calls a method in another assembly, the cross-assembly call is checked in the same way as if the user-defined type query were issued without crossing databases. But I still have the same error. Why?

Combine 3 Databases
Combine 3 Databases, Not tables. Let me spell this out -- I have 3 databases (they are in isolation when in use, its a field app) that need to be merged into 1 "masterDB" database. I've discovered I can use something like this to get to each DB in a query... 1 USE [database1]2 SELECT table1.Name, table1.Location, table1.Date, table2.Blog3 FROM table2 INNER JOIN4 table1 ON table2.ID = table1.ID5 ORDER BY table1.Date and then just repeat for database2 and database3. Ok, fine, rah rah. My question is how do I "merge" all of these into 1. No data on each db will be identical, at all, ever so that is not a concern. I just need all the data from db1, 2 and 3 into masterDB. Ideas? Direction?
